New material group

Hi Gurus,
Some materials have already been assigned to a material group. These are all active materials & stock exists for these materials.Now can we assign these to a different group. Can we use the fld "external material group" for further grouping i.e sub group.

you can assign a new material group to material
but u dont delet the old material group for SPRO , as it will created issues in running old PO and reports,
external material group is just a infermation field and we dont have any std report against this fiels u will have to chreat u own reports if u want any report against this report

The planning coordinator is informed that a new material group is to be marketed in the coming year and that this new material group should be included in planning. To generate a default plan value automatically for this new material group, the planning coordinator uses the planning method Copy. In the Transform characteristic values function, the necessary entries are then made so that the sales quantities for an existing, comparable material group are copied to the new material group.
How can i do the above process...

HI,
create a new characteristic (KEA5), choose transfer from SAP-table (the tab. where your fiels is available in material master (MARA)), choose the field from the list of available fields from MARA, enter text, save, activate. Assign the char. to your op. concern. Generate the operating concern.
Aftre this steps the field is in yopur operating concern and the derivation rule can be seen in T-Code KEDR (rule created by SAP automatically). If not, add a derivation rule in KEDR (table lookup).

How do I connect these two fiscal year to the new Material Group

I hope there is no assignment of GL account to material group. If you want that, you can assign Valuation class to material group in OMQW transaction.
Because of the valuation class, the system can find the assigned G/L account number in OBYC. In this case Transaction Key GBB and General modification VBR.

Service entry sheet error.with new material group for services

Dear Experts
We need to create material group for roll shop spare parts service,we created a new material group.
when we are creating PR/PO with item category as D and a/c assignment K( entered cost center here).its giving error message
as RC= 3M8 47 Account determination for entry JSL KBS J001 not possible(while making service entry sheet)
after that i changed PR/PO and gave cost center and G/l account.now the service entry sheet is accepted.
is it necessary give G/L account manually,if user chose wrong G/L account how to avoid this problem.
please clarify me,
do we need to assign valuation class for material group for services?(where to assign)
or
should assign G/L account manually to cost center while creating PR/PO

Option-1:-- >
Without creating material group and you can use your other service material group(existing service material group) and create a service master in AC03 as spareservice. Create a Service PO with text as roll shop spare parts service with other details as required like quantity of service, cost center & G/L account etc. After service being completed you can do SES in t.code: ML81N
Option-2:-- >
If you want report at the end based on different material/service group level, you can create a material/service group in OMSF for roll shop spare parts service and then you can assign to valuation class to material group in OMQW t.code. Then carry out regular process service order, SES etc.
Based on requirement, you can enter G/L account manually or can set default G/L account in purchasing document with help of t.codes: OMSK, OMQW, OME9, OMGO & OBYC
For error u201CAccount determination for entry JSL KBS J001 not possibleu201D, you cannot assign KBS transaction/event key to an account in OBYC t.code. Only you can assign G/L account to cost center with your CompanyCode in OKB9 t.code. Check the SAP note: 364570 & 106981

Path: - SPRO >> Logistics u2013 General >> Material Master >> Settings for Key Fields >> Define Material Groups.
Select existing material group and click on Copy As button.
Enter material group code, material group name and long description for material group.
Then click on save button for save material group.

Changing existing Material Group user defined names to new mat groups

Hi Gurus,
My client is using conventional Material Groups user defined names for ages in their system.
Now they have requested us to workout for switching over to UNSPSC material groups Global Standardization.
While carrying out the exerice, they have asked us to completely clean up the entire system to replace the new material group with old in all Masterdata, transaction data including statistics table in pr, po, stock and in everything

Hi,
If you change the Material groups in Material master the system the system will not update the PR/PO/Stock or others.
You need to change all the documents to update the New Material groups.
For Material master update you can use the LSMW.
You can update the PR/PO also but if the PR/PO is subjected to Release Strategy then you need to derelease then change the material group then update and if it is based on the Material group then while update the new release strategy will apply and you have to change everything.
Think of that if you have huge data then it is very difficult to change all the documents. if the data is Less you can proceed .
Instead of deleting old material groups just add the new material groups and use them in future for all your process.

But I have one doubt.Before Changing Material group I am tacking MC.9 Report for Stock statement.For Ecample in old Material group(xxxx) Some Stock is there 100.Like these Group XXXX qty 100.
Then I am change New Material group YYYY in XXXX Plance.Now i am tacking MC.9 Report For Stock Statement.Now i want new Material group wise Stock only like these group YYYY qty 100.

mc.9 is standard infostructure and it has got its own update rules to update the infostrcture. It wont be possible to have a retrospective update of the infostructure internal tables, and so if you are trying to analyse it for past periods, results may be wrong.

In this step you create material groups.
You also have the option of using the same transaction to carry out the following activities:
Creating superior hierarchy levels
Assigning the superior hierarchy levels to a material group hierarchy
Assigning the base material group to the material group hierarchy
Assigning characteristics profiles below material group level
Requirements
Your R/3 System is configured as an SAP Retail System.
Activities
1. Create superior hierarchy levels
   You create hierarchy levels using transaction WG01 (creating
   material groups) via menu options MG environment --> Hierarchy
   level --> Create
2. Assign the superior hierarchy levels to a material group hierarchy
   You assign hierarchy levels to a hierarchy using transaction WG01
   (creating material groups) via menu options MG environment -->
   Hierarchy level --> Maint. MG hierarchy
3. Create material groups (base material groups) and then maintain the
   pre-defined materials (reference material/material group material)
4. Assign the base material group to the material group hierarchy
   You assign the material group to the hierarchy using transaction
   WG01 (creating material groups)
5. Assign characteristics profiles below material group level
   You assign characteristics profiles using transaction WG01
   (creating material groups)
Further notes
When creating material groups and then maintaining the pre-defined materials (reference material/material group material) you should be aware of the following.
As these materials can be created automatically using a minimum of data, you should follow this procedure with a check and possibly further maintenance, especially of plant-specific data. The material group reference material should be defined in as much detail as possible so as to keep the workload to a minimum when you have to create more materials for this material group.
All hierarchy allocations involving a material group (base material group) and a higher or lower hierarchy level can be carried out on the initial screen (there is no need to switch to the detail screen). All further hierarchy allocations can be defined top-down when you maintain material group hierarchies.
Only the material groups are transported automatically!

Problem in creating material group

Hi All,
I have created new material group 230003-01 as per the user's request. It seems fine from my end. I transported it to production. Now user is saying material group is not working and its giving error in ME22N, 'G/L account 230003 cannot be used(please correct)'. Is anything to be modified in that balance sheet a/c?
Can anybody help me to find what could be the cause, how to resolve this problem.

Material groups, valuation classes and GL acccounts

HI Gurus,
I need to setup new material groups with descriptions, valuaiton classess and their related GL accounts. What steps do i nned to follow.

Go to transacition OMSF to define the material group
Go to transaciotn OMSK to define the valuation class
here you can define or use existing A/C ategory reference than create valuation calss and assign the A/C category to that valution class and next step you can assign the material type
G/L account you can define in FS00 transaciotn and you can assign them to the valution class in OBYC transcation.

Error in WRCR when trying to change material group of an article/material

We are using SAP 4.6c Retail.
I'm trying to change a material group via transaction WRCR and the following message is displayed
W7018 Error Checking valuation at retail for valuation area 2001.
I've been looking every where I can think of, but I can't find where valuation area is linked to either the material nor the old and new material group?
It has almost has to be a customizing setting

Hi, R u checking in the same client or you have transfered the request to some other client and making the material there, check in T-code OMSF whether you can see your Material group there, if its there then it should come, if not there then recreate it or do the transport request properly.
