New Maverick's update is a shame !!

Since last update 10.9.3 my MBP is a mess.
Today i start my computer and my desktop picture had disappeared !! PLus my 2 external monitors are switched !! Open software windows which were on external screen 1 are now on external screen 2 !................. ?

Didn't save me from what I think are design stupidities, but the upgrade was flawless.
Yup, like changing folders to also open within the same folder when you double click a subfolder, instead of opening in a new folder. Never had to do that without holding the Option key before. So why weren't users given an option to choose? As you note, it's not a bug, but a feature change/loss many users don't like.
I'm way off topic here, but I agree with the OP's sentiments, not because I've found 10.9.3 to be buggy - actually it is one of the cleaner major upgrades I've encountered. It is "a shame" for the continued iOSification of OSX and if I understand yesterday's "keynote" we are looking at more in 10.10. I regularly send feedback to Apple - never acknowledged - protesting the gratuituous and seemingly irrational changes in the interface particularly as the user is (1) not told (2) given no options. I really need to do creative work and a $5K iPad just won't make it for me.
To the OP, I don't do user switching so haven't seen the issue you're facing. Is it critical to your work to use this feature?

  • New Maverick's Update coming?

Will Apple release a new Maverick's update to correct the problems caused by 10.9.5?  Many Macbook Pro and Macbook Air users are reporting slower processing speeds since installing the latest Maverick's software.

Please log problem reports directly with Apple, providing diagnostics, console logs or other details around the slowness as appropriate.  (Checking the logs via Console.app is fairly typical, and can show aberrant behavior that might be occurring — every OS X upgrade tends to tip over a few systems, that's just the nature of the number of and complexity of the systems in use.)
As for when or even if Apple might deign to release a new version of OS X, this is a user forum — most of the folks here don't know, and the rest can't say.
FWIW, I'm running 10.9.5 on a MacBook Pro, and haven't noticed any issues.

  • Is an update required for new Maverick OS?

I am using Elements 11 for Mac and just upgraded Mac OS to new Maverick OS. Elements 11 is now performing very erratically. One example is when in Enhance / Adjust Lighting, the preview function hangs for long periods and sometimes locks up Elements 11. This is just one operation, there are others mostly centered around slow or unexpected results in the operation selected.

If the quick way of resetting the prefs doesn't work, try the long way. Go to your username>library>preferences and delete:
    com.adobe.PhotoshopElements.plist
    Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 paths
    Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 settings
To find that library in 10.9, see this:
    http://www.cultofmac.com/251544/mavericks-makes-it-way-easier-to-access-your-library-folde r-os-x-tips/
Repair permissions and try again. Also be sure that the organizer's auto analyzer isn't running.

  • New Maverick update :(  Help

Hi, Upgraded to the new Mavericks on my macbook pro 2010. The applications don't work any longer i.e calender, contacts, messages, app store. Also itunes doens't recognize my iphone when connected. Help pls.

Apple changed the behavior of the Power button in 10.9 Mavericks.
Press the button once, and it puts your display to sleep. Press and hold it for a second or two, and the Shutdown / Restart / Sleep dialog appears. Press and hold it for even longer, and your Mac gets completely powered off.

  • How can I save pages as a document with the new Mavericks version of pages?

Is there any way to save a pages document as a Microsoft document?  Additionally, is there any way to save a numbers document as an Excel document?
Since I have downloaded the new Mavericks software with the new Pages, Numbers, and Keynote, I can't save anything as a Microsoft document anymore.  Can anyone please help?  I'm a student needing an answer because most institutions only use Microsoft.  This is an extremely upsetting fall back for Apple if there isn't a way to accomplish these activities.
Also, if anyone has any information if Apple is going to provide new drivers for old HP printers and scanners, please inform me.  My multi-functional printer is obsolete (according to a phone conversation with HP).  Currently, I have to jump through hoops to get the scanner to work and Preview crashes most of the time (with the Mavericks update).

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
iWork does not let you save a document as an Office document by default, so you have to do some extra steps. First open the document and go to File menu (on the menu bar) > Export to, and choose the Office app to create a document for Microsoft Office.
Respecting to printer drivers, Apple does not provide newer drivers for an obsolete printer. Instead, see if Gutenprint works > http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php

  • HT6030 Mail attachment folders after latest Mavericks Mail update

Following the latest Mavericks Mail update, does anyone know how to stop a new folder being generated for each attachment?

The mailbox list is divided into categories with headings in caps, such as ON MY MAC. When you hover the cursor over one of those headings (except for MAILBOXES), you should see the word Show or Hide on the right. Click Show. The  MAILBOXES category can't be hidden.
In each category, the mailboxes are arranged in groups, such as Inbox. To the left of each group is a small disclosure triangle. If the triangle points to the right, click it so that it points down.

  • I have a Mac OS X 10.4.11.  I bought it new but never updated.  What would I have to buy to bring my computer up to date.

I have a Max OS X 10.4.11.  I  bought it new, but never updated.  What do I have to buy to update??

This depends on what model you actually have. There are many different iMac models. Specifically, which one do you have? The hierarchy is:
Leopard - the last system to work on non-Intel hardware.
Snow Leopard - Requires Intel-based hardware.
Lion - Requires a full 64-bit qualified model.
Mountain Lion - Requires a full 64-bit qualified model.
Mavericks - Requires a full 64-bit qualified model.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mavericks if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
        OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

  • Can I use a mountain lion time machine back up on new mavericks macs?

My macbook retina was stolen at my school. I was wondering because I used time machine having mountain lion, does it affect anything when if i purchase a mavericks macbook pro? the just announced one. I have all my pictures (iphoto) in that last back up. Can i use a mountain lion time machine back up on new mavericks macs?  My macbook retina was stolen on August 16? So I don't know if there was an update on my mac that might affect it in any way...

It's ok you can use your ML TM to transfer your account.   iPhoto library and other things will be upgraded when you open the apps.
At the end of the Apple article it says:
Migrating a Time Machine backup to a new Mac
When you get a new Mac, you can transfer all of your applications, files, settings, and other information from a Time Machine backup you've already made. When you start up your new Mac for the first time, the Setup Assistant asks you if you would like to restore from backup. If you've already set up your new Mac, you can use theMigration Assistant (located in Applications/Utilities) to do the same thing.
After Migration Assistant completes the transfer and you select your existing Time Machine backup drive, you will be prompted with "Inherit Backup History". Once selected you will be able to continue to use your existing Time Machine backup on your new Mac.

  • I CAN NOT open Iphoto with the new Mavericks????

I can not open Iphoto with the new Mavericks, I changed Dutch for English but stil nothing ....

    Hi Kevertjes,
Thank you for the update.  I recommend verifying that you are signed in with the same Apple ID associated with or used to purchase iPhoto on the App Store under the Store menu.
If you are signed in with an alternate Apple ID, I recommend signing out of the App Store, signing back in with the correct Apple ID, and then trying the update again:
    Sign out
    Choose Store > Sign Out.
Sign in using an Apple ID
Choose Store > Sign In, or click Sign In in the Quick Links section. The Quick Links section is located in the right part of the window shown when you click Featured, Top Charts, or Categories in the toolbar.
Enter your Apple ID and password, and then click Sign In.
Mac App Store: Sign in and out

    All the best,

  • Can I pause the Maverick's update to first update software on OSX 10.8?

I started to download the new Maverick's hardware upgrade but then realized that there were some software updates that weren't done firsts(I'm running OSX 10.8.3). I then paused the Maverick's upgrade...
So can I go ahead first and update the software and then finish the Maverick's upgrade ?

The initial download can be paused, and in fact, if all you do is download from the store, copy the installer from the Applications folder to the desktop folder after the download is complete, you can quit the installer and install it later.

  • New Maverick system.. This Apple ID has not yet been used with the App Store. I;m through with Aplle ..buy Samsung

Been trying for a week to download new Maverick system..with no success.
for over a week. Keep getting this (This Apple ID has not yet been used with the App Store.)
Not getting any new updates either. Just don't have time for this ..crap.
Already, got my new Apple ID verified nad everything.. MySamsung never had these kind of problems..

Samsung.  Are you serious.  I tried to talk with their technical people today about using a wireless headphone with my Samsung television.   The 'technician', from Bangladesh as far as I could tell, was so technically deficient she had to run away every minute or so to consult with someone.  Even then I could barely understand what she was saying when she did speak.
So much for Samsung customer care.

  • Home sharing does not work with new mountain lion update.

home sharing does not work with new mountain lion update. Does anyone else have the same issue. Updated all computers in my home, deauthorized and reauthorized each computer. turn off home sharing and turned it back on. don't know what else to do..please help...

Our Apple TVs continue to lose connection ever since installing Mountain Lion on the host computer. The only thing that fixes them is to quit and relaunch iTunes, which only works unti the ATV goes to sleep. If a movie is paused for more than a few minutes and the ATV goes to sleep, pressing play again on the remote is greeted with "There are no movies on this computer" or "Turn on Home Sharing."
If we stop a video on one ATV and attempt to resume it in another room, the error begins again. The other ATV can't connect until iTunes is relaunched.
My guess is that it has something to do with the new [annoying] security settings. But I still haven't found a fix other than restarting iTunes everytime we want to watch something from our downloads. Fail.

  • I've just updated my iPad to iOS 7.02 and I'm not able now to download new apps nor update the version of the existing ones.

    Hi!
I've just updated my iPad to iOS 7.02 and I'm not able now to download new apps nor update the version of the existing ones. All of them are "waiting"... for ever.Even, when trying to download a new app, a "dratf" icon appears on the ipad, not the app's own icon...
I've tried to switch off and on the iPad, disconnect and reconnect the itunes id... and nothing works. Even deleting an app, to download it again, doesn't work. It even doesn't ask for my password!!! (Stays with the small square with a circle around, the one that gets "bolder" while downloading... but it doesn't get bolder now. Just stay...).
Any suggestions? I wouldn't like to reset the iPad, since I've got data in some apps that I wouldn't like lo loose...
By the way, I can not either delete some apps with thos "draft" icons... even when the alert that appears when trying to do that is shown and select "ok".
    Thank you in advance!
    Best Regards,
    Carlos.

    Hi,
Thank you, Once_was_lost, but it doesn't work either. I tried it yesterday as an option (I think you're referring to the options of those apps in the settings app).
The problems are still here... I've been able to update some apps using the PC itunes (connecting the app to it), but all the other apps are still "wating", and I have two new strange things:
    * I cannnot remove the apps that are downloading (at least those that are supposed to be downolading ) . But I could remove one from the PC... and now there is an "empty line" in the "to update apps list".
    * Stranger: though I cannot download new apps or music from the store, I can do in-app purchases!!! In that case, I'm asked for the password and the item downloads. How is it possible?????
I can download with the same user in the PC, in the iPhone... but not in the iPad .
    I'm getting mad...
