New MB and HD system wont accept recovery CD's

Here is the challenge, I replaced the MB and the HD and the recovery disks dont work to get the OS back. Is the solution that I need to buy a windows 8 CD and will that work or is there another solution?

Perfect, I should have came here first for a solution instead of wasting two weeks getting bad info from HP support! A BIG thank you....!!! What I found is HP and other manufacturers are required to "tattoo" their MB's to prvent piracy of OS's. Its a Microsoft push to prevent use of their OS on multple PC's. That is why the manufacturer will only ship recovery CD's, they match the tattoo on the MB. Very bad for honest consumers as I just paid twice for an OS that I am using on one PC.....<sigh>...oh well...Again thank you for the help, it is greatly appreciated!

    Put your install DVD into the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) and reboot. Be sure to either use the disc that came with your Mac, or, if you installed a later Mac OS X version from disc, use the newer disc. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option Key until the Install Disk shows up) until the apple shows up. That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
    When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Reset Password. After resetting the password use Startup Disk from the same menu to choose your hard drive for startup and restart.

    I have moved from the UK to New Zealand and Itunes will not accept my new Zealand bank details, I am trying to change my details on the Iphone 4s

    Do you have a new Apple ID to use in NZ? If not open iTunes Store. Log out of your old Apple ID, then try to login. Select Create Apple ID from the dialog that appears. Make a new Apple ID for NZ with a NZ email address. Once that is approved and verified, log into the iTunes Store with the new Apple ID. This should fix all other issues.
    Change iTunes Store Country on an iDevice
    1. Tap Settings;
    2. Tap iTunes & App Stores;
    3. Tap View Apple ID;
    4. Enter your user name and password;
    5. Tap Country/Region;
    6. Tap Change Country/Region;
    7. Select the region where you will be located;
    8. Tap Done.

  • New iMac and iDVD just wont work!

    All,
    Just got a new iMac and iDVD just wont work, from creating a new project, or opening an old one, or trying to share from iMovie (HD)
    If I try to do anything nothing seems to happen and when I close the program a window does appear and from there it just freezes.
    Have deleted and reinstalled iDVD, repaired permissions, all up to date in my on software updates...any ideas?
    Thanks
    Zara

    *Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
    • Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
    iDVD pref file resides.
    Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
    and is named. com.apple.iDVD.plist
    While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iDVD.
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Program miss-match. iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
    • Program miss-match. iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match. iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
    Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/iDVD/Themes/ zzzzzzzzzz
    or
    Macintosh HD/Users/Your log-in//Library/Application Support/iDVD/Installed Themes/ zzzzzzzzzz
    • Try a Cleaning CD/DVD that cleans the laser lens on the DVD burner/player
    iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
    Last resort. from Craig. Solved the problem!! Finally!!
    I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
    emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
    and I am up and running.
    If You do a re-install be sure to get rid of all iDVD old parts AND then EMPTY the Trash-basket !
    iDVD updated ?
    Apple Codec updated ?
    Start a New Clean project - or delete project assets
    No of Colors - must be set to millions
    EdinSF writes that, The 10.6.3 update with an Open GL fix seems to have taken care of the problem.

    updated to new verison 10.63 and now it wont open itunes store..very vey upset.

    it just says accessing itunes store but will not open
    Many thanks.
    With those symptoms, I'd try the following document:
    Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
    (If there's a SpeedBit LSP showing up in Autoruns, it's usually best to just uninstall your SpeedBit Video Accelerator.)

  • Installed new memory and Macbook Pro wont start.

    I bought a total of 8GB from PNY for my mid 2009 MacBook Pro (2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo).  I installed it and my macbook wont turn on.  When I press the power button it just beeps.  The LCD doesnt turn on.   I reinstalled it a few times to make sure that it is sitting correctly with no luck.  I reinstalled my old memory (2x2gb) and it works fine.
    The new memory I bought is PNY  8GB (2x 4GB) Bual Channel DDR3 PC3-10666.  The package says that it is compatiable with 1333MHz and 1066MHz.  This is the listed memory on the PNY website for Mac laptops.
    Am I using the worng type of memory?  I'm pretty sure my MacBook Pro can take 8GB...right?
    THANKS!

    One beep indicates no RAM installed. See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1547.
    What happens when you reinstall the old original memory? Does the computer boot then?
    You might want to read the information at macsales.com (OWC). Certain models had to be updated to take additional memory.

  • TM doesn't see its backup after migrating to new iMac and restoring system.

    TM doesn't see its backup even though it still exists on the HD. I just migrated to a new iMac. After using OS X disc to 'Restore System From Backup' with TM backup it was showing the latest backup attempt had failed. The same disk was highlighted under TM Preferences too. But once I reset it TM began to make a new backup under a new folder/computer name (adding a number to the end). Is there a way to make TM see the existing BU and continue on?

    I'll try to recall to the best of my memory what I did... It's been stressful, frustrating, trying to deal with it.
    Computers:
    1) iMac6,1 (Late 2006) Intel 2.16 GHz Nvidia OS X 10.5.6
    2) iMac8,1 (Early 2008) Intel 2.8 GHz ATI OS X 10.5.4
    Perform final backup of iMac #1 with TM and SuperDuper!
    Shut down and disconnect.
    Hook up iMac #2 and power up.
    After OS X intro select 'Transfer from another Mac' with Set Up Assistant (note: this was from the SD! backup).
    Everything was selected for transfer; Users, Apps, Network,..etc. (I assumed it would update OS X too).
    Transfer complete.
    Restart.
    Log in.*
    * I have both Admin and User account. I noticed things weren't performance was off; log in was slow (Menu Bar items took longer to display, clock too), and generally overall apps,..etc seemed slow. Apps were asking for license and reg info too.
    Second attempt (restore system from TM backup):
    Startup from OS X 10.5.6 disc.
    Erase HD with DU.
    Select 'Restore System from Backup'.
    Select TM backup.
    After that completed, restart computer.
    And that brings us to now. Well, sort of.
    So what is the proper way to migrate as it were from between two different Intel iMac's? I have to assume I transfered over system files that caused a conflict with the new iMac's HW, correct? What can I do now? I've already performed new backups of both SD! and TM. I didn't think it mattered since either way the backups come from my old system. I'm guessing I should have updated OS X first on the new iMac and only selected User files, Apps, Network settings,.. etc., for transfer, or maybe installed apps fresh. I thought I was doing it correctly.
    The new iMac still seems off with performance to me. I've tried performing multiple 'Repair Disk Permissions' too. There are about 32 differing permissions but DU doesn't seem able to repair them as they come up again and again. Here are some examples;
    2009-05-15 09:23:47 -0700: Permissions differ on "System/Library/CoreServices/Front Row.app/Contents/CodeResources", should be -rw-r--r-- , they are lrw-r--r-- .

    My final attempt to straighten this out is to install from OS X disc fresh (erase/install). Transfer only User files, Network settings, anything pertinent to my Users (email, browser, keychain,..),... and nothing else. Reinstall 3rd-Party Apps. I had to do this before after updating from Tiger to Leopard because it didn't take well.
    Any help/insight appreciated.

  • HT5621 How can I change my Apple ID on the Icloud on my iphone? I changed it to a new address and the icloud wont let me update it on m phone and it is not registering my old address either because it no longer exists. please help!

    It continues to ask me for my password for the old address nd when i enter it or have tried to change it, it does not recognise that address. Do I have to take y phone back to new to be able to log in to the icloud with the changed email address?

    Sync with iTunes so you have a backup. Tap Settings > General > Reset > Erase all content and settings. Restore the unit as New. Reconfigure for your new ID and password. Restore your apps, etc. from backup.

    how do I access an old iTunes account if the email address no longer exists, I can't remember the password, and iTunes won't accept my birth date?

    THe fist does not work as it's asked for a birthdate and will not recognize mine. in reasearching this further,it looks as if iTunes not recognizing the correct answer to a security question is a very common problem and that this is actually a huge issue that has lead to many folks not being able to ever access their purchased music again. Apple support has not even been able to unlock old user ID accounts.  Is their a class action lawsuit in regards to this?

  • OEM HDD or Retail HDD wont accept recovery cds

    Hows it going everyone. I recently encountered an issue with my laptop.
    Product: Pavilion dv5
    S/N: {Private Information Removed}
    Model # dv5t-1000
    HP Pavilion Entertainment PC
    Originally had Windows Vista Home Premium SP1. I had recently upgraded to Win7 Ultimate, my integrated camera stopped working. So i went to the drivers page on the hp site to look for compatible drivers and apparently there wasnt
    any for Win7 Ultimate. I tried to restore the OS with the original HP cds i had ordered from the web site in order to make the camera work again but no luck. The recovery drive doesnt have anything inside , it was accidently formated when the upgrade took place (bad mistake, i know). Now when i insert the recovery cd during boot up, it just freezes when i hit any F key. When i hit F11 it loads the cd and boots for  a little while then I receive this error.
    "The instruction at 0x77a124a9 referenced memory at 0x00000000"
    then it just restarts and im back to square one.  i tried a new hard drive i bought from a computer store and this time it doesnt freeze on the boot up screen but i still receive the same error written above.  i cant get into safe mode at all, i hit the F key and it doesnt do anything. Running out of ideas here. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.  Thank you in advance.

    There is a full list of Windows 7 drivers on your support page.Ultimate is covered under Windows 7 drivers.

    after a migration - new 6 core - my final cut studio (2) - doesn't all work. final cut works, but compressor tells me to restart or verify that my instillation is correct. DVD studio doesn't work either....
    help!!!
    thanks
    MR C

    David is spot on. Follow his advice.
    You need to understand that if you were running a G5 - a PowerPC chip computer - and migrate to an Intel chipped computer, the binary code to run the program on the new computer will not be present. Your G5's FCS installation doesn't have any intel code on it. FCS requires intel specific code on intel machines.
    Also, you will need FCP v5.1 or higher to run on the intel machine. v5.0 or lower is not supported.
    Heck, even migrating pro apps between machines on the same processor can be problematic due to the specificity of the chips and how FCS stashes system files. Sometimes they are not copied over or the frameworks are the wrong one for the processor or version of OSX.
    Best practice is to always do a fresh installation from the disks (or disk images) then use software updater to bring it up to the current update.
