New MBA Gen 2 track pad button click problems

Anyone else seen this: the new MBA trackpad button must be clicked firmly and almost directly in the center or it misses clicks. The previous gen MBA was not like this.
Or is it just my unit?

Hi Edmund,
I received my MBA Gen 2 (1.86 GHz, 128 Gb SSD) last Friday (here in Japan) and over the course of the evening and early on into the next morning, I clearly noticed that sometimes (5 to 10%) when clicking the actually clicker button (that thin tab which is mechanical clicker and not the trackpad clicker which can be enabled through the sys prefs), it did not respond.
This MBA Gen 2 is replacing a 5 yr old 12 inch Powerbook. Switching from the powerbook to the mba, I can clearly tell that the clicker on my MBA is a bit dodgy. In my case, the weakness seems to be to the right of center of the clicker. But then again, I'm always clicking in that area anyways, not sure if it's any better on the left or center. If I click really hard, there's no problem, but if you click lightly, it just doesn't always react, even though it has definitely "clicked".
I called Apple Japan last Saturday and explained that this had been a problem "out of the box". Without any quibbles, they informed me that a new MBA would be ordered for me and that when it arrived, I would just have exchange the old one for the new. Only problem is, they said the delivery times are now around 2 to 3 weeks. Still, I'd rather try to get one that doesn't have this problem than not.
As they say, misery loves company, so hope this helps.

PHB

• Track pad buttons won't work

My track pad buttons on Mac Book Pro will not work. Can move cursor using the track pad, but when I click on the buttons nothing happens

I suggest deleting the preference file for the trackpad - it may have become corrupted. Heres how:
Home Folder>Library Folder>Preferences Folder>com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch.ytrackpad.plist
Delete: com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch.ytrackpad.plist
If this doesn't resolve the issue, I wonder if you are using a third-party trackball or mouse, the driver for that hardware might also be helping to make stuff wonky- Make sure you are using the latest version of drivers for third-party stuff and that the hardware is in fact compatible with your system.
Hope this helps! :-)

• Track pad button automatically/randomly left clicking.

I have a T61P and from the first day I got it the left-click button on the track pad (not the button for the red track pointer) would automatically click but only at random. The button isn't stuck and it generally happens about every 10 to 20 minutes. I have already upgraded the all the driver software. Is there anything else I can try before calling the service tech?? Thanks. -Ray

Mine does it all of the time when I try to command click a link on a page to open in a new tab and also when I try to close a tab that I had opened I thought at first it was my thumb sitting on the pad as on my mbp 17 I kept my thumb on the button and I have trained my self not to leave my thumb at the bottom I know no other part of my hand is touching the pad. I think the sensors are not as calibrated as they need to be we need more fine tuning in the sys prefs for the track pad.

• What do I do if my track pad stops clicking and I shut turned of the tap to click

My track pad stopped allowing me to click it. So I went to my preferences and randomly it allowed me to click so I turned on the "tap to click" button and now I am able to click and access everything. I forgot that my track pad was messed up and I turned off "tap to click" and now I am unable to click on anything or access anything or even turn the button back on. How can I manually do this using the keyboard or how can I possibly fix my track pad myself?

If you have version 5, then 5.7.1 is the latest.

i want -->if user want to plot a new plot
user will place new button,give value of parameter using control,do needed operation .
then press button name as plot.
on button click user must see all previous and new plot.

Hello,
Joe is right, you will need to use build array to add plots to the previous one. Specifically, you can refer to the XY Graph.vi which demonstrates a couple different methods for graphing multiple plots to an XY Graph.

• Cleaning track pad button

I don't know what to do, anyone can help, if Apple Repair provide service to replace the surface of such touch pad???Coz' the condition for mine is serious.

• Track pad wont click and drag help?

this may not be the right place but for some reason my track pad just randomly quit working when it comes to click and drag. i updated the software because i read one correct this issue but its still happening. can anyone help? do i need to take it to a mac store?

That is unfortunate! However, here is some international contact information:
http://www.apple.com/support/contact/phone_contacts.html
I see that your location is on the list. It's possible that you could contact Apple directly and be referred to an Apple Authorized Service Provider who could diagnose what is wrong.
In the meantime, you could always make a good backup and then reinstall the OS from disc and see if this cures the problem.
If you really feel this is software rather than hardware, it might be worth posting your question in the Snow Leopard forum where all the software experts are. It may be a simple matter of trashing a .plist or something like that.
Good luck!

The track pad on my mac book air periodically stops working (over the past couple of days it has not worked about 90% of the time. Even if i use a mouse the clicker on the mouse does not work. Not settings have been changed.

Howdy bdahal17,
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.
From your post I understand that your trackpad is behaving erradically on its own. Please review the information in the article below for assistance with this issue.

• mx:states & button click problem.

Hi,
I use <mx:states> build two screen,(base state and
screen).
I have button on ,for the click event I add
the code like
<mx:Button x="105" y="323" label="Button"
click="currentState='screen1'" id="button1"/>
But when I put the button in a mxml component and then I add
the component on base state.
I get error when I use the same code and click the button.
MAIN PAGE

<mx:Application xmlns:mx="
http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
layout="absolute" xmlns:CTComp="*">

width="400" height="300">
<mx:Label x="51" y="89" text="Requestor"/>
<mx:TextInput x="133" y="87"/>
<mx:Button x="133" y="136" label="Login" width="103"
click="currentState='screen2'"/>
<mx:Label x="112" y="33" text="Catering Request Form"
width="158" fontWeight="bold" fontSize="12"/>
</mx:Canvas>
How to fix the button event on mxml component?Thanks for help
M

To get this working correctly, you need to import
mx.core.Application:
<mx:Script>

import mx.core.Application;

</mx:Script>
Then you can access the
Application.application.currentState='yourState' through your click
handler:
click="Application.application.currentState='yourState'"

• MBP Track Pad Button Thinks I'm Still Touching It (How to disable?)

So once again I have another issue with my macbook pro. I'm long out of warranty and I don't have applecare. I already took it to apple to get an estimate of how much it would cost to just replace the whole topcase...$300 (for a stupid trackpad button).
They said its the only way but I want to be entirely sure in case he had no idea what he was talking about.
Here is the issue:
I saw on some threads where other experienced similar issues but were under warranty and got lucky and were able to have it repaired.
The trackpad works perfectly fine. The button however thinks you are stilling pressing on it. If I click once and move the cursor the begins highlighting when im obviously not holding the button down (Don't bother telling me to disable dragging in the trackpad options that isn't the issue). It will keep on doing this after I keep on pressing the button 5 more times, and after clicking it when it has gone away it comes back.
You can tap on the trackpad and that will work perfectly fine, and honestly I can live without the button. However, even if I don't touch the button it is still recognizing something clicking the button and begins to interfere with whatever im doing with the touch pad.
This brings me to my next point, if repairing the button is going to blow a hole in my wallet, is there a way to disable the input from the button completely. I can just live with tapping on the touch pad. Is there some software that allows me to program the computer to ignore the button or is there some wires i can cut? Even if it is something as ghetto as jamming the button with an object somehow, I'll do it.
PLEASE HELP I need to disable this button because I dislike using an external mouse
Thanks in advance

hey thanks for the quick reply. I tried it and i messed around nudging the cable but it still does the same thing.
I also forgot to mention that if you press the button really hard, like quick and solid poke on the button, it tends not to drag and think I'm still holding the button. But if you tap it lightly like one normally does, it continues to "drag" whatever the cursor was on.
Could something be stuck? Apple here in the Philippines was being stubborn and told me that I'd have to give mine and it will most likely just be repaired at the cost of the $300 I mentioned above.
