New MBA ¿HDMI?

How can I connect the new mba to a hdmi tv? What adaptor i'm going to need? thanks

The MiniDisplay Port to HDMI as well as the MiniDisplay port to DVI (then DVI to HDMI) work on my 13" MBP with Thunderbolt. I fully expect the MacBook Air with Thunderbolt to follow this suit.

  • I bought a new MBA and are having problems with HDMI and VGA port

    Hi,
I just bought a new mac book air, and at the apple stre they recommended me a mosh mini to vga cabel. I need to use my computer for projector either hdmi or regular vga adapte. The new mba only has thunderbolt, usb, memory/card slot, microphone and headphone ports.
Does anyboody has and idea how i will  or how do i connect the hdmi or vga adapaters to the computer. I have been searching on the cables the apple store has available but the end that goes into the computer is not compatible with the ones I mentioned above.
Please any help would be of great help, because I dont know what to do. I think this is a problem with the new MBA.
    thank you,

Thank you doubr.  So what I need is to buy the thunderbolt cable  and the minidisplayport to vga adapter or the griifin mini display port to hdmi tht toothpickproductions recommends, is that correct?
The one I have is a mini dvi to vga adapter and the end that goes into the computer is the same one that the minisdisplayport to vga adapter or the griffin one have, and is too big to go into the new mba. I dont know if I am confusing you more with what I am saying.
check the link below and you will see the ports the mba has
    http://www.apple.com/macbookair/specs.html
if you see the ports that mba has, the two minidosplayport that are recommending do not fit..
So, do you know that if I buy the thunderboldt cable will either of the two minidisplay ports fit or I  need to buy another adapter for the minidisplay ports??
thank you because I am kind of confused, I did not have this problem with the macbookpro I had before...

  • HT4889 I have accidentally created another account when using Migration Assistant to a new MBA. How do I now 'migrate' all the files from both accounts into one to save myself having two accounts, both of which are me? Help?

I have accidentally created another account when using Migration Assistant to a new MBA. I have read that I probably should not have skipped migration in the initial set up and the problem would have been avoided but, alas, here I am. Does anyone know how I can 'migrate' all the files from one of the accounts that has been created to the other, so then I can delete it and have a single user on the computer seeing as I am the only person using it? I have read starting again, if this is the way to go, where is the best place to start 'starting again'?

Yes definitely should see it but its not coming up (I don't think) when I log out of 2nd user and into the main account. Opening finder in the 2nd account, I can obviously find the public folder because thats where I dropped all the files, but when in the main account, it can't be found. The only public folder that comes up is the folder for that account (main account) and it does not display files I'm looking for. Frustrating....
EDIT: Have found it through a round-about way but all music and photo and movie etc files have a red stop sign disallowing them from being transferred. Can you guess what the next question will be?

  • How can I get rid of the accumulation of the backups in the Macintosh HD of my new MBA 13.3'' ?

How can I get rid of the accumulation of the backups in the Macintosh HD of my new MBA 13.3'' ?

My best advice is that you stop worrying about the backups that TimeMachine is making on your MBA. First, these local backups are only made when TimeMachine should perform a backup but your computer isn't connected to TimeMachine. Once you reconnect your computer to TimeMachine it makes a backup and the local backups are deleted. Second, TimeMachine stops making local backups when your free drive space dips below 80%. So the local backups aren't going to take over your computer.

  • Install 2nd copy of aperture on new MBA

apologies upfront if this has been answered, I did a search but could not find the answer.
I have been an Aperture user since 2008, I have the original 2.x version DVD as well as the 3.0 upgraded DVD, and since that time all my updates are managed electronically. I'm running my library on a MacPro.
I got a new MBA (love it) and I would like to install Aperture, more for casual use on trips.
The Appstore doesn't know that I have a license of Aperture, so it wants me to pay.
The 3.0 upgrade DVD doesn't install as it is looking for a 2.0 installation.
I have not tried yet to install 2.0 and am afraid that won't work either.
What's my best option to install 3.x?

Download the Aperture 3 Trial version from this link:
    Aperture 3.1 Trial
Then update it immediately from the Apple  menu> Software update, launch it, and enter your serial number(s).  You will need both, the Aperture 2 and the upgrade serial numbers.

did you turn 'find my mac' ON your MBA BEFORE your it was stolen? if not, you will not be able to do anything to the stolen MBA
if you did turn it on before it was stolen, yes it will erase everything on the MBA

  • Migration from old MBA to new MBA.  Ethernet not coming up as an option, defaults to wifi

    Hello
I'm using migration assistant to migrate all the data from my old MBA [Snow Leopard] to new MBA [Lion].
I've tried many times using different wireless connections and the process just hangs with 3 hrs, 50 mins left to run.
Apple store bod advised me to connect using ethernet as she said that wireless is notoriously unreliable for migration, so I've bought two ethernet adaptors and a cable :o/
Now, each time I aim to migrate, the assistant doesn't ask if I want to migrate using ethernet, it just seems to default to wifi.
If I turn off wifi, to try and force an ehternet option to pop up, then the computers don't seems able to locate each other in the first place.
I have tried with the cables connected before I switch on, also by switching on and then connecting the cables.  Neither seems to work...
I'm still hanging at around 3 hrs 30 mins.  There's about 75Gb of data to transfer in all. I have set my energy saver mode to never sleep.
Not sure what to do next, and can't find a reference to this particular situation on Apple Support.
Anyone had this experience and could advise me, please?
    Many thanks,
    221b

Setup your new phone, then update to iOS 8.1.3. Once done: Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings". At the setup screen you'll now be able to select your old phone's backup.

  • For those considering the new MBA, a short review.

I've had my new MBA (1.86GHz, 128 GB SSD) for two days, and I'm delighted with it. I thought, therefore, that it might be useful to post my experience with the machine for anyone considering buying one.
The first thing I noticed was how incredibly fast the MBA is. I've got a first gen Intel MBP and a Santa Rosa MB, but the MBA simply destroys them in boot time/app loading time/web page load time, you name it. I'm sure the CPU accounts for some of this, but most of the credit has to go to the solid state disk. It's definitely worth the extra money for such a noticeable speed boost. Nothing lags and nothing drags; the whole system is impressively responsive.
It's also eerily silent. There's no disk whirring, of course, but also very little sound from the fan. I know overheating and all manner of CPU-throttling, video-stuttering nastiness affected the old MBA, but none of that has manifested itself on my machine. I spent a couple of hours testing it out with flash movies, YouTube videos, a DVD (via SuperDrive), and a bit of gaming (Spore runs fine, by the way), but nothing got hotter than 60 degrees C. I'd say Apple have definitely fixed the heating problems.
The result is a fast, quiet, stylish machine that gives many full-sized laptops a run for their money. The first generation MBA was labeled a "secondary laptop" by some reviewers, a machine intended for those who already had an MBP or Mac Pro at home, but who wanted something a bit more portable. Version 2 is, on the other hand, an excellent primary lapop for those users who don't have the need for high-end, discrete graphics.
Of course, everything has its downside, and the MBA is no exception. It could use another USB port (to save me having to carry a port replicator), the mini-DisplayPort video output required the purchase of yet another set of converter dongles (grumble grumble), and the trackpad button seems to require a bit too much force to operate (other threads have highlighted this issue so it may be a fault in some machines). When I first booted the MBA, the iSight camera didn't work, but a quick SMU reset fixed that. The glossy screen is fine for me, although I understand the point of view of those on the other side of the debate, so I can see how it could be a negative.
And that's pretty much it. I bought the MBA to be a "travel companion," very much secondary to my other Macs. After a couple of days, however, I have relegated my MacBook to secondary status, and made the MBA my main Mac. It's a delight to own and use. I highly recommend it.

    Hi,
I have a problem with lines on mine. They are in the form of faint horizontal lines running across the whole screen. They are very noticeable on a white background, i.e. when typing on a word processor. I have a MacBook and two iMacs in the house, and these don't exhibit the same problems.
I find that my eyes get fairly tired after an hour or so use with the Air. The text is not as clear as my MacBook. It was quite disappointing as I expected the display to be better than the MacBook.
It does seem that quite a few people are having the same problem. There are a lot of postings on forums even at this early stage, for example:
+“I have the new MacBook Air 1.86/128GB SSD, and I too see very faint lines on my display. They are not completely horizontal - rather, they are pitched at about a -5 degree angle from left to right, and appear to be about 1 pixel in width, and 1 pixel apart.”+
However, I have a case ID with Apple and will try and reset the Air’s System Management Controller when I get home tonight. If that doesn’t work I’m going to send the Air back for replacement. Considering the cost of the Air I do want to get one that is clear of any defects. Apple support has been very good thus far. I’m also wondering is a driver fix for the Nvidia chip set might solve the problem?
This issue aside it is a fabulous computer. I think Apple have got the spec spot on with the rev2 Air. It’s responsive, runs cool and is a total joy to use.
    Graham.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, OS X 10.8 or better and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer).
On the basis of the specifications you have given for your set up, mirroring should work.

Hey Folks, I have updating my brand new MBA to 10.6.7 and my internet is now extremely slow through the airpot. All of my other macs are running 10.6.6 and are very fast. Im using a new Airport Extreme base station, does anyone have any idea on how to fix this. LIke I mean its extremely slow online.

    Good day,
I'd like to confirm a few things:
What action/activity are you performing in Acrobat when it crashes?
Is the crash consistent at the same point?
You stated in the subject '..after upgrading to 10.6.7'
What OS was on your iMac when you purchased it?
Was this problem occuring when using an earlier verion of 10.6.x?
Have you applied to font update Apple released to address some of the problems they introduced with 10.6.7?
Did you perform a clean install of Acrobat on your iMac after you purchased it or was the application transferred in some way?
I hope we can get this resolved for you!

  • New Mini (HDMI) with CRT Big Screen TV (RP)

Is anyone using the new Mini with a CRT TV. I have a Mitsubishi WS-65813 rear projection TV that I'd like to connect to the New Mini using HDMI to DVI. I had one of the older Mini's and the problem was the screen on the TV was not full screen or it was over-scanned, depending on the option I picked.
My question is if I connect the New Mini (HDMI-DVI) to MY TV will it fit native, meaning will it fit the screen without the above mentioned? I'd love to have the ability to watch HULU.
PS. I'd love to get a new LCD TV but the WS-65813 has a superior picture, and it has a 65 inch screen. Only 1080i, 480p, 480i, and Firewire. NO 720p.

    D/FW wrote:
So there's and overscan and a underscan now? Is this different from previous generation Mini's?
They actually removed the overscan function. I'm not sure how many people were using it. Very few I suspect (thus why it was removed).
The underscan function is implemented as a slider. You move it to the right until you can just see the perimeter of the Mac desktop.
Ideally, it should be all the way to the left, in a perfect world. Because you are losing resolution by using the underscan function.
But obviously many TVs do require it. And Apple kindly lets you adjust it to just the level that you need for your particular display device.
I don't know if the the underscan function is limited to only certain screen resolutions. I can't test it right now. But I will when I can. Or perhaps someone else in this discussion will have an opportunity to do so and share their findings.

  • How can I update iLife on my new MBA 11" i7?

I just purchased a fully loaded MBA yesterday.  When attempting to upgrade the software, I noticed iTunes and Remote Desktop but that's all.  After logging into the AppStore to download previously purchased items, I noticed updates were available for iLife.  After clicking upgrade all, I received a dialog box stating "This update is not available.  You must have previously purchased the item being updated.  Tap Buy to purchase it now."
Has anyone run into this issue and resolved it?

I work for an Apple Reseller in the Netherlands and after having this issue with my new MBA and verifying it with Apple Care I've come up with a temporary solution for the problem.
Note: This is not for the faint-hearted and requires an iLife '11 install disc.
After finding out about this issue I tried replacing the iLife Support files with the ones from the iLife '11 install disk to prevent the App Store from updating and restoring updates through Software Update. This didn't work. The solution that did work requires you to do the following:
Start by removing all iLife related applications from the /Applications folder.
    1. Press "cmd + shift + g" and type "/Library"
    2. Navigate to "Application Support"
    3. Delete all iLife related folders (iLife, iLifeMediaBrowser, iLifeSlideshow, iPhoto, iMovie, Garageband, etc...)
    4. Return to "/Library" and navigate to "Preferences"
    5. Delete all files related to iLife which all have the following format: com.apple.NAMEOFPRODUCT.EXTENSION (the files include those containing the words: iLife, iPhoto, Garagaband, iMovie, etc...)
    6. Press "cmd + shift + g" and type "~/Library"
    7.Navigate to "Application Support"
    8. Delete all iLife related folders (iLife, iLifeMediaBrowser, iLifeSlideshow, iPhoto, iMovie, Garageband, etc...)
    9. Return to "/Library" and navigate to "Preferences"
    10. Delete all files related to iLife which all have the following format: com.apple.NAMEOFPRODUCT.EXTENSION (the files include those containing the words: iLife, iPhoto, Garagaband, iMovie, etc...)
    11. Check both "~/Library" and "/Library" for iLife related folders (the iMovie folder cannot be deleted)
    12. Install iLife '11 from the iLife '11 install dvd by sharing it on a disc drive or making a disc image on a USB-stick or drive.
    13. Open Software Update and retrieving the latest versions. This has to be done twice to get the latest iPhoto release.
    Done!
Disclaimer: I do understand that this is a bad solution for less advanced users but if you find this problem so important this is currently the only valid fix.

  • No software shipped with new MBA!?

Hi, I just recieved my new Macbook Air. There is no software (OSX/iLife) in the box (it is installed though).
Is there no software to be shipped with the MBA anymore? My dad does have a thumb that came with his slightly older MBA.
What if i need to reinstall?

The MBA I received at Christmas did not include any software on disc either, although it is all installed on the drive.  That's the new way Apple is distributing software these days.
As for reinstalls, the new MBA allows you to work with Lion Recovery, the new way to reinstall.

  • Should new Bootcamp be released for the New MBA?

Many people installed windows by bootcamp on the New MBA but most of them included me found no internet network. it is commonly explained that bacause the New MBA too new, bootcamp does not support wifi driver for it. I am waiting an update of bootcamp to experience windows on my New MBA. Come on Apple ^.^

Same problem here, I posted my problems in detail and another user posted a "double option-reboot into windows" workaround in this thread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/22553442#22553442
mendel, I'd love to log a bureport but I can't submit as the webpage tells me that "You must be a Registered Apple Developer to file bugs via Bug Reporter." and I am not able to register.
Has someone else in this thread logged this nagging bug?

  • Aperture 3 and New MBA

Hi, I couldn't find the answer here but I just got my new MBA and want to install Aperture 3. I have 3 questions, 1, as we know The MBA doesn't have a Optical drive and the retail version I bought is, so can I burn the image to a USB key from my mac pro? Two, is there a process to upgrade a full retail version to the mac app store? I know some programs offer A switch to their app store version for a nominal fee. Three, the aperture library on my mac pro is master images not referenced to an external because I have the space on the MP. Right now its onl 28 GB and I have the 256 SSD so I have room but what do you suggest moving forward? Smaller project based libraries or some combo or a shared library on the mac pro but then what do I do when I'm on the road? My Mobile me isn't big enough and we're waiting for icloud... Thoughts, suggestions and answers needed and welcome. I didn't see this answer anywhere either so sorry if these were answered and I couldn't find them.
    Thanks in advance!

Use one Library unless security or professional reasons require you to sequester images.  Multiple Libraries defeats the "management" part of Digital Asset Management.
Put the Library where you use it.
Read about, understand, and finally convert all (or nearly all) of your Images' Masters to be Referenced rather than Managed.  This works very well, and will give you some years (a couple hundred thousand Images under management) until you have to change your storage/back-up system.
Develop a mobile workflow as needed, and based on where your Library is kept.  Read this recent thread on one person's solution to a mobile workflow with Aperture on a desktop and sometimes on a roving laptop.
Ask specific questions as you have them.
(I have no answers for you re: program licensing and installation.)
