New MBP and installed wrong administrator

Please help,
Yesterday I bought me a new MBP (lion) and wanted to transfer all the information from my previous MBP (died on me) from TimeCapsule.
First I could not get access with my administrator password which I use for years, so I reset the password. After that I let me access and did the transfer.
Problem is that there are 2 MBP's backed up on the TimeCapsule. Mine and my partner's.
When the transfer was finished, I freaked out as all the information from my partner's MBP was transfered to my new MBP instead of my data. Whatever I try, I cannot seem to be able to get my information. How can I erase my partners information and start all over again (clean start as if I just got it from the store ) and try to get my information from the TimeCapsule instead of my partners. I do not have a disc as it did not come with my new MBP (was already installed).
Is there a posibility to see what you are actually transferring from the TimeCapsule? It shows applications, documents which you can tick but not What information.
Bit annoyed as I am afraid that all my information is lost. I hope it is still in the TimeCapsule. I once did it before and everything went well in the past. Now I'm stuck with info from the wrong laptop.
Thanks in advance!

You'll need to boot to the recovery HD, included on the internal HD, by holding down Command+r key combo or the Option key.
Once booted to the recovery HD you can wipe the Macintosh HD section of the internal drive and then reinstall Lion from the Apple online server. You'll need to have the computer connected to the internat to do the re-install.

  • Just Got New MBP and need to reinstall Software

I just got a 15inch MBP and installed Final Cut Studio 2 which I did not know was 55 gigs. I want to install it on an external HD so I want to reinstall Leopard with my disc I received when I bought my MBP from Apple. Will I still get all of my extras such as ilife with my install disc and will it restore it to factory (as I received it when I first bought it?) Thank you!

An 'erase and install' will remove EVERYTHING from your harddrive, and if you've already got Leopard installed, that's your only option.
Reintalling Leopard will NOT install iLife; to my knowledge there are no Leopard+iLife 08 install DVDs. . . just Leopard DVDS. I may be wrong, as I have an old Mac and not a new one, which may come with a software package I've never seen (but I'm getting my GF a new MBP for Christmas!!). I think you need to (and should have) a seperate iLife 08 disk with which you can reinstall iLife.
A couple of questions and some advice:
-I assume you have at least a 120gb harddrive. Why do you want to install FCP2 onto an extrnal DVD? If you plan to use that space to store media, it would be a better idea to store the media (i.e. the video footage, etc) on an external drive and keep your FCP application on your internal HD.
-Also, if you are going to run FCP on an external HD, get a FIREWIRE 800 external HD. They are quite a bit more expensive, but I had a LOT of problems just using FCP1 to edit footage stored on an external USB HD . .. I can't IMAGINE the problems you would have running FCP2 off of a USB external HD.
-Thinking about it again, where are you going to store your footage? On the same external HD as FCP? I think that will work . . .
    Looking forward to hearing more!

  • Brand new MBP and the user directory is corrupt?

hi, i just installd my new MBP and did a sync of my G5 settings (all except bookmarks) added a few things to my desktop and when i rebooted the desktop was cleared and the home directory was missing "Movies" "Music" "Pictures" in the left most column. all that is left is "Applications" and my user home symbol.
i tried to create a new user and when i did so was given a message that the "home" folder could not be located. weird.
anyway. i also installed a canon IP4300 driver. can anyone tell me what may be going on? do i need to erase the drive and do a fresh install?
UPDATE: i see what happened! the User directory somehow got into the Applications folder! no idea how. but i can't seem to get it out. can anyone help me out?
    thx

Open the Applications folder and drag the Users folder inside to the top level of the hard disk; you may need to press the Command key when dragging the item and/or provide an administrator username and password. When done, log out and back in. If only the home folder is present in the Applications folder, move it to the Users folder. Rename existing items as needed.

  • Help with new MBP and iTunes

I need some help fast. I bought my wife a new MBP and in setting everything up we inadvertently setup a new and wrong iTunes account. We haven't transferred anything yet, I want to get this account off her computer before I bring everything from her Win 7 machine.
Can't find any specific instructions, can somebody help me out?
    Thanks!
    Mark

It's late so this will be rather short:
    1.  Make sure you update the older version of iTunes to the latest version
    2.  Go into iTunes Settings and Authorize iTunes with your Apple ID and Password
    3.  In settings, turn off Automatice sync
    4.  Connect your iPad and once recognized, right click the device from the left side of the the iTunes screen
    5.  Transfer purchases
    6.  You can then sync
A lot to digest and I don't have the time to walk you through every step.  If you need to, google the points and you'll find lot's of information on where to find these in iTunes.

  • My macbook pro hard drive went bad and i bought a new one and installed it. Now i have the old corrupted hard drive in my hand and i am looking to recover my files from it, any suggestions please? too bad i never backed them up.

After you have installed the OSX on the new HDD in your MBP, install the old HDD in an enclosure and connect it to your MBP via USB.  Then try to drag and drop  your data to the new HDD.
If this proves unsuccessful, you may look for data recovery software on the Internet.  There will be free trails to see if it will work or not.  If the trial suggests that it will work, then you will have to purchase the software.
The last resort is a professional data recovery service that will offer NO guarantees and charge a lot of money.
As you now can appreciate, backups eliminate such predicaments.
    Ciao.

  • New MBP and existing network

    Hello All,
I've just migrated from a G4 PB 1.5 to a new MBP and, while I can log into the existing WiFi, I can't see any of the other nodes on the network. I have my wife's MP Black and a Mini acting as a HTPC/Server. I just migrated through using the assistant and didn't change any of the settings yet.
The Mini is sitting headless downstairs so I used to log in remotely using Chicken of the Sea VNC. Now it no longer is visible, nor do the computers show up via network.
It's been a while since I set this network up and I know that 10.4.8 has altered some of the security. What do I need to tweak??
    Cheers,
    JC

A router separates two LAN networks and creates two broadcast domains. The standard Microsoft workgroup browsing will only list what is inside your LAN and never something outside or across a router.
If you want to access what is on the other side you must manually enter the share with its IP address. If the computer you want to access has IP address 192.168.100.12 then you enter \\192.168.100.10\share.
But as you want to be able to share freely inside your LAN anyway, I would suggest you set up the WRT as wireless simple access point. That way, you only have a single LAN and a single broadcast domain and thus you can find all other computers if you check for other workgroup computers. Instructions how to set it up as access point are here.

  • Got a new MBP and old external hard drive is too full for backup

I just got a new MBP and got all my data migrated and everything. I plugged my external hard drive in to run a backup, and it apparently is too full to run a backup of the new computer.  Even though all the files are the same (mostly), I guess it's not going to overwrite anything because it's a new computer.  Should I just get a new backup drive and start fresh for this computer.  Should I reformat my old backup drive (and if so, how?)?  Advice?

You should always have two backups of all vital data in any regard. A good 1TB Toshiba USB is $65
If there is NOTHING on the external HD you cant lose, format in disk utility > erase > format MAC OSX extended journaled.
then apply a Time Machine backup to the old HD of your new computer. That will free of a great deal of space.
However you should still have a 2nd backup of data.  2 backups is 1, and 1 is none.

Unless you've recently attempted to downgrade iTunes this is probably a sign of a corrupt library file. See Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash.

The other responder gave you a program that will transfer stuff from your iPod to your new computer.  You can transfer iTunes purchaces to your new computer by:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
After you move your stuff to your new computer you will have to let iTunes erase your iPod and then sync with the stuff that is now in your iTunes library.  You will loose app data though.

  • I got a new computer and installed Firefox, but don't know how to transfer the bookmarks from Firefox on the old computer.

This has to be one of the the most common problems that people encounter. We all get new computers every so often, and we all need to keep the old bookmarks when we get a new computer and install the new browser.
I feel like I must be among the small minority of people who do not know how to do this. My older computer is not dead, it just got old (it uses XP). I have been keeping it around until I get all of the data from it. Any help in doing that would be greatly appreciated.
I am now using Windows 7.

Firefox also makes regular backups of your bookmarks in a folder named bookmarkbackups in your personal settings folder. You can restore the backup to your new Firefox, but unlike importing the HTML-format file, it is a complete drop-in replacement, so if you have saved new bookmarks you do not want to lose, the export/import method may work better for you.
By default, Windows hides your personal settings folder so the easiest way to access it is from inside Firefox. You can use either:
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
    * (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
    * type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This will launch a window showing your Firefox settings files.
You might want to back up this whole folder if you have other data you want to preserve from your XP computer.
Either way, you should find the bookmarkbackups folder here and when you click into it, find maybe 10 files with dates in their names.
The procedure to restore the file once you have it on removable media or some other convenient place is described in this article: [[Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer]].
Regarding the other files and what you might find of use: [[Recovering important data from an old profile]].
