New mbp - finder crashes constantly??
My new MBP arrived today. I transferred everything with the Migration Tool and for the most part, I'm ready to go.
BUT.... Finder crashes constantly and isn't really even useable. At first I thought it was the trackpad, but now I see it is any activity in finder crashes it.
Is this a known problem? Is there a fix?
Thanks,
Tom
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Step 1
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Post the messages from the time of the last crash, if any — the text, please, not a screenshot.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

New MBP: Vista crashes during install w/Boot Camp-any suggestions?
Trying to install vista on new MBP. Using Boot Camp, everything seems to work until the very end, and Then Vista says it couldn't finish due to a problem with a device(I'll have to check the exact error at home tonight....)and that I will need to restart and re-install. Then it gets stuck restarting and going to the same message over and over. so frustrating....
This is with a fresh copy of OSX 10.5.5 on a new MBP 2.4 with 4G of ram, right out of the box. New copy of Vista SP1, and following the bootcamp instructions to the letter. I installed all Apple software updates before launching bootcamp. Other than the Apple updates, am I missing something?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
ThanksYou would do better posting in the BootCamp forum here:

Finder Crashing Constantly after last security update.
Heya, I installed the latest security update for 10.4.8 last night and ever since then my Finder will crash and relaunch itself every minute or so. I've tried renaming the com.apple.finder.plist and doing all the other fixes I could find but to no avail. Here's a copy of the last Finder.crash.log since I've seen people ask for that with these kinds of posts. I'm just glad that I took my last exam for this semester today so I don't have to worry about this going one while I'm in class typing notes.

Finder crashing constantly - cannot start up from install disk
Looks like I have a conflict between spotlight and the finder. The spotlight icon is missing from the menu bar and whenever I try to launch an application etc. from the finder it freezes & I get the spinning beach ball. The screen refreshes but the dock remains
I have done all the usual tasks like repairing permissions, repair the disk, rebuilding the memory with DiskWarrior, Mainmenu tasks , Applejack, restarting, Tech Tool Pro etc.
I have tried using the install dvd but I get to the restart page and it reverts back to where I was before and does not read from the DVD so I can't get to the installer. Have tried the disk in the internal and external optical drives without success.
I also can't seem to restore the system with Time Machine because it says to use the install disk which
my computer will not read from the disk.
Short of doing a complete erase, is there any else I can do.
The console is recording both Spotlight crashes and the Finder crashes every few seconds.
Anyone with some suggestions, please.
AlanBecause you have known good backups, I'd try to get the disks working and Restore from Backup via Installer as you were trying. Reseting the PRAM and NVRAM can help with startup issues (power down, wait 10 seconds, turn the computer back on and hold down commandoption+pr until you've finished hearing the second startup chime).
Let the computer startup. Power down and try to boot to the install disk.
If you still cannot boot to your install disk, try resetting your SMC by turning the computer off, disconnecting it from AC, removing its battery, pressing and holding the power button for 5 - 7 seconds, then letting go. Reconnect battery and AC, try booting to the disk again.
If both these steps fail, verify the disk with another computer - can another computer boot to it? If not, call AppleCare for replacement disks. If so, book a Genius Bar appointment, there is a hardware issue.

Multiple finder crashes on brand new MBP
I just purchased the 2.53 GHz MacBook Pro two three ago and have had a ton of finder crashes and restarts. It's not been anything worse than annoying, but it's still very disconcerting to have the desktop disappear for a few seconds. At least it always comes back.
I can not reproduce the crashes reliably. However, they do seem to happen almost exclusively when I'm navigating through a network drive. The mounted drive doesn't have to be from the same machine, either. It can be from my Windows desktop (CIFS mount), my OpenBSD server (Samba/CIFS mount), or my Airport Extreme with my 750 GB Seagate FreeAgent Pro drive attached to it's USB port (formatted on this Mac).
The crashes don't seem to occur when finder is in the background; only when I'm actively using it.
I've also had a few other applications crash, but nothing nearly as much as finder (11 finder crash logs so far...)
Anyone have any experiences like this?
I've not yet run Apple's diagnostics, but will be doing so tonight.Well, I got the Apple store to swap out the MacBook Pro due to a scratch on the display's case. The store Genius didn't know why the finder was crashing. He didn't find anything in his internal support system, either. I also spoke to an enterprise support tech, who just happened to be there for another reason, and he wasn't sure either. Both techs did say that the build of OS X for the new MacBook/MacBook Pro is different than their normal one. I assume this is due to the new hardware and new driver requirements.
They looked at the crash logs I have and weren't able to determine the cause. We all agreed that the hardware wasn't likely the cause, but couldn't be 100% certain.
Well, after the swap, I've already had one finder crash, and as such expect many more over time. I figure this is an OS bug and Apple will eventually fix it. My past experience with OS X (pre 10.5) shows that this feature should be stable.
The store Geniuses suggested I keep sending the crash reports to Apple, as I have been. So, I'm closing this issue and will just deal with the finder crashes for now. At least none of the crashes has actually brought down OS X. -
Fact: Motion 3 crashes on the new MBP's. Anybody find a solution yet??
This is bad. I've had to reinstall the operating system 3 times and still no luck. Even the "Genius's" at my local Mac store are baffled.
Has anyone out there figured this out?Sweet! I cannot wait for mine to arrive this week. i actually went
to the apple store to check it out i can not wait for its arrival. i was very impressed
Im going from a 1.25ghz PB with only 512mb ram to the new MBP with 4gb
of ram. Talk about a major upgrade (yes!!) As a fellow web/multimedia designer
I know I will benefit from this upgrade. I really hope to be more productive
with having dreamweaver, photoshop, flash etc all open at once. A sImple RAM upgrade
could have solve some of my problems wIth my current PB...but this new machine is just
beautiful and durable and will really help me work easier. My current PB will be my side project and back up for now. 5 years I've waited to upgrade........ and glad i did. -
Hello, I need help. Find is crashing constantly, even in safe mode
Good evening. I have a term paper to write, and I have several more seasons of the West Wing to finish. With finder constantly crashing I am able to only get one of my objectives complete.
I am not getting any warning, or message that it crashed. But as I try and use it I watch as finder reboots itself. (once per minute, plus or minus 30 seconds). All of my files are in google drive via finder, and that may somehow be related.
Also of interest is that finder is crashing even while in safe mode.
Also, earlier today my time capsule stopped putting out any internet feed for 30 minutes. Then it randomly started working. I had even called the internet provider to have them diagnose why the modem wasn't working... and they told me that it was the router! Perhaps the two are related somehow?
Help!Make sure you have a backup.
I don't think it's your router.
If the Finder crashes persist in safe mode that means that the problem is in OS X itself.
The next diagnostic step would be to create a test user account in System Preferences > Users & Groups.
if Finder is stable in the test user account then you know that the problem is within your user account.
if the problem is within your user account then you can either
try to fix it (boot into your recovery partition {command R at restart}, and use disk utility to repair your HD and permissions)
copy your documents over to the new account and use the new account instead. And delete the previous account.
If the problem is not your user account, then it is in OS X itself (above the level of your user account)
try repairing your HD and permissions from within the recovery partition
if that doesn't work, reinstall OS X over your current installation with the Mavericks combo updater (your post does not say what version of OS X you are running but I'm assuming it's Mavericks because that's what discussion you're in). OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 Update (Combo)
I would avoid Google Drive and use Dropbox instead. -
10.5.5 MAJOR Problems! Finder crashing...constantly!
Installed on Mac Pro via Software Update. Seemed to go fine but upon restarting I get constant finder, mail, and ical crashes (Finder won't stay running, at all) system is useless in this state, the error is:
Symbol not found: _DAVErrorHttpResonseHeaders Referenced from: /System/Library/Frameworks/CalendarStore.framework/Versions/A/CalendarStore Expected in: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/FAVKit.framework/Versions/A/DAVKit
So, I tried mounting my Mac Pro system disk via FW target disk mode on my MacBook Pro, then ran the combo update from there. Upon rebooting the Mac Pro, exactly the same errors. iCal, Mail, and most importantly the Finder are crashing constantly. Unusable. What's next?Same problem. MBP Core Duo running 10.5.4 using the Mac OS X 10.5.5 Combo Updater. Finder kept crashing and generating CrashReporter errors about DavKit.framework.
Booted from partitioned external drive. Installed 10.5 on a partition and updated it to 10.5.5 using the Combo Updater. This copy booted fine.
I then copied the DavKit.framework from this disk to the problem drive after deleting it from the problem System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ directory.
This solved the problem.
Once this framework is corrupted you have to replace it. For most users an Archive and Install is the only way they are going to fix the problem. -
Mavericks Crashing on New MBP...
I continue to have my new MBP (15" late 2013) reboot. I have explored the third party software and have not found anything that is documented as incompatible with Mavericks. This is my first time having an issue like this since I converted to Macs 5 years ago. That said, I am not familiar with the diagnostics or utilities that can allow me to troubleshoot crashes or run compatibility tests. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
When Mavericks reboots, I find all of my apps re-open, and up to this point I have not lost any information. However, I don't want to chance this and would like to get to the bottom of the issue.
Thanks in advance. Here are the results - my apologies if I have posted too much:

The finder crashes when I login to my old account. Briefly my problems started with iPhoto crashes and eventually to finder crashes. The finder would crash when I would try to transfer picture files from one directory to another. I'd deleted com.apple.iPhoto.plist as well as com.apple.finder.plist but these did not help. The crash is characterized by there being no menu items on the top left, but with dock icons which cannot however be clicked, and I can only resort to a hard reset to get back to the login window. I created a new admin account -- this one works -- but cannot decide whether I should just transfer files from the old account to the new account (as described somewhere in the archived support) or whether I should "go back" in time to when the system was working well (about December 2012 was the last "good" Time Machine backup -- I did a backup in February, but that was when I was already having problems). I am afraid that if I transfer certain files (especially the picture files and iphoto files) to the new account, I might cause the same problem on the new account. Any suggestion as to how to resolve this problem would be greatly appreciated.
Transfer files off the machine to a external storage drive and disconnect, that way you can do anything you like.
TimeMachine may fail to restore if your drive is corrupted and can't be easily verified if your data is truly on it or will restore.

iPad 1 Safari Crashes Constantly and getting worse day by day. Has Apple come up with a solution? Now I am hearing its also happening on the newer models. My company is about to buy a lot of tablets and I will not recommend Apple anything until they fix the problem. Granted 30 or 40 iPads is not a huge impact but i promise once the outside world hears about this BS things will change. There are plenty of other tablets out there that do not have this problem. At the very least we should have the option of rolling back to a stable IOS...
I have already tried all the things mentioned above as well as other things such as other browsers etc. Its is obviously a problem with the hardware. I also borrowed a brand new 4th gen iPad and it does the same thing. Even after upgrading it to 6.01. An occasional crash is one thing and can easily be waved off but this is clearly systemic and the problem appears to be related to graphical images and videos. Both iPads are the 64gb versions, the only difference other than model is the iPad 1 has ATT cellular. The new version is clean i.e no other APPs loaded other than what came with it. I have 7 more coming but im seriously considering sending them back in favor of an Android tablet or the MS Surface.

New MacBook Pro. Came with OS 10.7.4
Used Migration Assistant in initial set up
Safari crashes immediately on launch
System I migrated from, had Safari 6
Don't see any way to reload or to update Safari 6 on the new MBP
Software Update says all software on this computer is up to dateUpdating to Safari 6 for Lion may help.
Click here > Safari Quits Every Time Opened: Apple Support Communities
Then click the link posted by: gregoryfromcork
That will automatically download this file > Safari6Lion.pkg.download
Now quit Safari.
Go to your Downloads folder and double click that file and follow the instructions for installing.
Then restart your Mac, try Safari. -

Is it the new iPad Mini Retina or IOS 7 CRASHES CONSTANTLY
Is it the new iPad Mini Retina or IOS 7 CRASHES CONSTANTLY
I hate to, but I feel I am a guinea pig at 700.00 a crack 128gb mini.
I have 4 of them and THEY ALL DO IT. I have restored, setup as new ipad but nothing works.
also, the colors on the new ipad mini seem dull and off. I have a plum colored car and it looks brown on the mini.
Giving up...i bought an iPad Mini Retina earlier this week
came back home, updated to iOS 7.0.4 and it crashed many times, while browsing settings but also some apps
i had it exchanged because of a yellow tint on the screen
got a new one, under 7.0.3, also crashed several times, updated to 7.0.4, still crashing
wondering if the new 64-bit processor has something to do with the code used for iOS
