New mbp iTunes 10 - no upgrade available

Hi,
Brand new mbp 15 running 10.8.2 migrated from a mbp 17 on SL 10.6.8 using the Setup/Migration Assistant.
This new mac is running iTunes 10.7 (21) so obviously there are updates available. Using the menu iTunes->Check for updates... tells me there are updates and the choice to download it. Clicking download runs the App Store which promptly tells me there are no updates available.
When I first ran iTunes it wouldn't run saying there was a version issue with iTunes.itl
Renaming that file allowed me to run iTunes but now as I said, it won't update.
Anyone have an idea? Not impressed that my brand spanking new machine has issues already.
thanks
sicr

I think it's actually probably symptomatic of Apple not keeping Software Update up-to-date - it wouldn't be the first time.

  • On new mbp should we upgrade or do a clean install

The title says it all. My friend just bought a new mbp and he is wondering if he should do one or the other or none. There are no third party anything yet on the machine. Has not yet turned it on
What do you all recommend, I cannot recommend anything I killed my mbp and I am on an imac that I cannot upgrade anyway.
    Thanks in advance

BTW, these are the options and recommendations from macfixit. There are four alternatives, in decreasing cleanliness order:
•Erase and Install: Deletes all your stuff and reformats the partition, giving you an absolute drop-dead guaranteed clean installation. This is recommended if you have a backup of all your stuff (made, for example, with Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper, though it can be done with Disk Utility instead) and are willing to restore your stuff manually from that backup afterwards.
•Archive and Install, and don't preserve users: This moves everything aside to a Previous Systems folder and installs a clean system and an empty fresh user. You then have to migrate all your stuff manually from Previous Systems. This is a good alternative if you can't make that backup; it is a clean installation, but the partition was not reformatted so if there are disk-level or file system-level problems, they will remain.
•Archive and Install, and do preserve users: This moves a lot of stuff aside to a Previous Systems folder, and installs a fairly clean system, but it preserves network settings and existing users and their files. This is very easy but a bit risky, since old preferences and other files are permitted to remain and can cause trouble later.
•Upgrade: Merges the installed system right into the existing system. Not recommended.

  • New MBP w/lion; upgraded to iLife11 but iPhoto won't open old library?

I bought a new macbook pro in september. After completing a vacation iMovie, I noticed the new MBP didn't have iDVD on it to burn to send discs to family. I purchased iLife11 for this program but it also updated iPhoto. Pretty cool until I tried to open iPhoto11 and it won't open the old version's library... why? More importantly, how do I get around it? I have a Time Capsule so a backup or two exist if necessary... just want to get this project done without killing the hole weekend! Thanks!

As usual... found the answer after I posted this. I updated the upgrade when I installed iLife11 yesterday. It worked but I still had the problem. I thought I would try it again today to see if there were any additional updates... and KAPOW... there was, and problem FIXED! Thanks!

  • New MBP iTunes Skipping Songs

Just picked up a new MBP. Downloaded music library from external HD and noticed that itunes is jumping to the next track before the current one is finished playing.
This dosen't happen on all albums, just a few. So I assume it's not the MBP HD but rather a few corrupted files in the library-which have never given me a problem before.
    Any thoughts or suggestions?

Post your query on the iTunes forum.  You will have a wider audience and one directed at those who are familiar with the application.
    Ciao.
    I never had that happen.

  • New MBP 13" w/ Upgrade HDD/RAM question ??

Just received MacBook Pro 13" 2.26, along with larger HDD/RAM from 3rd party online retailer.
Question - Do I just upgrade HDD/RAM even before I start MBP for the first time? OR do I start MBP first do the registration, etc. THEN replace HDD/RAM afterwards?? Does it matter?
Also, using RESTORE disc on blank HDD will install EVERYTHING to factory default setting (apps, etc)??

I know it takes time but I would continue with the install just to make sure the stock HD is ok.
Yes, once you install your 3rd party HD you can use your install Disk. When you install your new hard drive you need to put in the install Disk and format your new HD before loading the install.
Here are the steps I use:
    1. Put in your install Disk (make sure it's the INSTALL DISK #1)
    2. Remove old HD and install new HD.
    3. Restart Computer and hold down the Option, Command, P, R keys all at the same time (this is known as resetting PRAM) until I hear 3 bong sounds...then release all keys. I would recommend if you haven't done this yet to practice.
    4. After I release the keys I turn OFF the computer by holding the down on the power button until the power goes off.
5 Press the power button and before the first bong press and HOLD the C key until I see the spinning spoke wheel...then release the C key.
6 Once booted to the install Disk #1 go to disk utilities and format the new HD drive using the GUID partition table.
    7. Start the install.

  • New MBP, itunes wont open because file is newer version

I got a new macbook pro tonight and sent my itunes over. When I try and open it says my itunes file is newer then my version. When I try a system update I get a file cannot be found message. Any thoughts?

Sorry, yes I meant a software update. Once I downloaded the software and it didnt work it went away but it said something along the lines of files cannot be found. I am going to downlaod the new version and then delete the old application and reinstall it to see if that works.

  • While looking to upgrade to a new MBP, found out latest version of iTunes does not support wired syncing of iCal and contacts. syncing of these must be done through iCloud. This is a deal breaker for me. are there any workarounds?

While looking to upgrade to a newer MBP, found out latest version of iTunes does not support wired syncing of iCal and contacts. Syncing of these must be done through iCloud. This is a deal breaker for me for several reasons. Are there any workarounds or do I have to go back to a PC with my tail tucked between my legs?

When you say wired syncing, are you meaning between an iphone and your mac?

  • MBP(Leopard) has ALL music (Amazon, my own CDs,etc) in iTunes. I do NOT want to use in new MBP(Yosemite). Now, iPodTouch64 is now stuck at "plug in to iTunes" screen. Can I plug it in to my old MBP without fear of losing ALL?

My iPod64Touch is frozen at that screen, with no way to get to settings. I have even pressed the top (on/off) button and the button at the bottom (front) at the same time, and it just returns to the frozen screen. Let it drain, recharged, and get the same screen. I'm sure this is Apple's way of forcing me to send all my 6674 items to my new MBP(Yosemite), and know it will not include my Amazon purchases and personal CDs that are on the old MBP.  I don't use videos, photos, or anything other than music on the iPods.
ITunes on the old computer, under Devices>Device backups, shows:
    iPodTouch 64 ------------------------------------12/24/14 9:33pm
    iPodTouch 64 - Feb 14, 2015 7:07pm ----12/24/14 9:33pm
I use this device in the cars only, and have played it many times until last week, when I got the frozen screen after disconnecting from my husband's car. The CAR couldn't have tried an update, right? I forgot about Sync, didn't I? I've now checked the box to "Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically". Why didn't I see that before now? It's possible that the update was so large, that the iPodTouch wouldn't take it and just quit, without completing the update, but left me this unresponsive screen.
So can I safely just plug the USB from the iPod64 into the older 2008 MBP and update it from there (WITHOUT DANGER OF LOSING ENTIRE COLLECTION)? Make it simple; I'm 74 and not as savvy as I used to be! I tend to zone out with long descriptions, but if you have to....fire away...between hubby and me, we can usually figure it out.
I haven't migrated from older to newer MBP or to iPad4 yet because I wanted to be selective in doing so. I am offloading all my photos, digital art, documents and important Applications onto separate thumb drives, before upgrading the old MBP, and will probably backup the whole thing on a new external backup drive, too. Then, will upgrade to Snow Leopard (the last update the 2008 MBP will take), and use it almost exclusively offline.
I have a 'Classic iPod' that I purposely haven't updated since the last of '14. All purchases from all sources are on there (as on the '08MBP) and I want to keep it that way. We keep it in players and do not plan to update it or play anywhere else, except perhaps with headphones or through the tuner occasionally. I'm assuming it is safe from the same fate?

  • Help with new MBP and iTunes

I need some help fast. I bought my wife a new MBP and in setting everything up we inadvertently setup a new and wrong iTunes account. We haven't transferred anything yet, I want to get this account off her computer before I bring everything from her Win 7 machine.
Can't find any specific instructions, can somebody help me out?
    Thanks!
    Mark

It's late so this will be rather short:
    1.  Make sure you update the older version of iTunes to the latest version
    2.  Go into iTunes Settings and Authorize iTunes with your Apple ID and Password
    3.  In settings, turn off Automatice sync
    4.  Connect your iPad and once recognized, right click the device from the left side of the the iTunes screen
    5.  Transfer purchases
    6.  You can then sync
A lot to digest and I don't have the time to walk you through every step.  If you need to, google the points and you'll find lot's of information on where to find these in iTunes.

how can i sync my iPod with new iTunes on new computer without losing my old library? There is no backup iTunes/iPod files available.

If you connect your ipod to your computer then look in the hidden folder labeled "iPod_Control" . (This is on a Mac version, but i think it's the same for Windows) and in "Music" is all your music mixed up in different folders. Just drag the MUSIC folder onto itunes then BAM! It's done ;D
Source:... This is what I did when this EXACT thing happened to me ;D

  • How to populate iTunes library on external hard drive onto new MBP.

I have a Powerbook G4 that is slowly dying. I have a new MBP that I want to populate my iTunes library onto without moving my music off my external hard drive. I've tried holding down the OPTION key while launching iTunes and selecting the iTunes Library file, but it seems to only load songs that were added in 2006 or later.
How do I get a current iTunes Library file that will populate all the songs?
Or am I going about this the wrong way?
    Thanks!!

i want to keep the music on the external HD, and I have linked the MBP iTunes account to the external HD (as in where to look for music), but I just can't get the whole library to populate into the new iTunes account.

You are correct. Corrupted files are in the backup. If you've already restored the iPhone it has been erased and starting over is the way to go in order to eliminate the corrupted files.
    Hope that helps
