New MBP owner needs help with iTunes

I just bought a new MBP and I have all of my music (iTunes) on my old Windows XP PC. There is about 100mb of music and I'd like to keep it all on that hard drive as I don't want to load up my MBP HD.
I do want my MBP to be the main account for iTunes so I can make changes to tags and rating but I just want it to use the files on the networked HD. It is not necessary that I keep iTunes on the Win XP machine.
One more thing, if possible, I would like to keep a copy of only my 4 & 5 Star rated songs on my MBP (about 10GB) for when I am away. I cannot figure out how to do this. I can sort them in iTunes or create a playlist for these but I don't know how to export copies of only those files. Does anyone know how I can do this?

First, have you moved or renamed the iTunes or iTunes Music folders, or any of the folder or track files in those folders, since iTunes last worked correctly?

I need help with iTunes. I just bought a new laptop and I have a few questions

So I just bought a new laptop and few days ago. It's an HP. I have the iPhone 4 (8GB). So all my songs from iCloud are on my phone. I want to manually put them on my phone. All of my songs, videos, pictures etc. are on my new laptop. I went to apply the changes on iTunes when I selected "Manually manage music and videos". And a message came up saying "This iPhone is synced with another iTunes library on another PC. Do you want to choose to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library?" Under that it says "Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iPhone with the contents of this iTunes library."
So what do I do? I don't want to click sync and loose everything on my phone. I will no longer use the other comuter. I really need help.

You should be able to copy iTunes purchased music from the phone via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases
If you still have your old computer and you haven't copied your library over form it, then there are also some methods listed on this page about how you could copy it over : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 - the page refers to music, but I've used the home sharing method to copy apps, films etc between computers.

New laptop need help with itunes.

okay so i got a new laptop for xmas and i want to transfer my songs from my old desktop to my laptop. is there a way i can load my ipod onto my laptop and use that to transfer songs.
my friend said that when i plug in my ipod to my blank itunes it will erase my songs. is there a way to download my songs to my laptop from my ipod?

Your friend is right. the iPod cannot be used to update iTunes. I had the same problem about a year ago, and I just transferred each song using my jumpdrive. It's painstakingly boring, but it will work without wiping anything clean.

I need help with itunes for windows 7.

wondering if any one can help? i am running windows 7 and i recently had trouble with itunes it used to open and work, when i recieved my new iphone itunes decided not to open any more i tried un-install and re-install and it didnt work i reset my laptop back to its factory settings and re-installed itunes it worked for that day then went wrong again. i have tried doing apple software update and it comes up with error and some numbers followed by cc. if i try and re-install itunes it says invalid right to use bonjour.

Need help with Itunes Authorization issue

I've been a Itunes/Ipod user for a couple years. During that time, I've sure spent over $500.00 on Itunes music from the Itunes store for my Ipod. My daugter and I both have Ipods.. There have only been 2 machines with Itunes installed here but I occasionally rebuild my computers to have the latest and greatest hardware for my business.. The other day I backed up all my music and data before rebuilding my machine due to hardware upgrades. Everything went smoothly including importing my purchased music back into Itunes.. The problem is I can't listen to it now. When I try to double click a song I get an error that says "You have already authorized 5 computers with this account. To authorize this computer you must first deauthorize one of the other computers" This isn't possible because the computers aren't around anymore to deauthorize. They were all housed (except 1, my daughters pc) in the same case as I have now.. Please respond...

Need help with itunes iphone update

When I try to sync my iphone 4 with ios 7 to itunes for windows, I also receive the "can't use devise...requires itunes 11.1 or higher". I am advised to download this version at itunes.com. However, when I follow the link, I am not allowed to download b/c my phone already has itunes installed on it. The download link offers no tab or lik for either updating or downloading any new software. What am I missing? BTW, my pc is updated with itunes 11.1.

Same problem here. It shows up under devices but there is no "page" for it. No tabs, music, apps, nothing.

I need help with iTunes 7, but its a little more complex than that

I share a computer with my brother, which makes my situation a little trickier than usual. You see, I want to install the new version of iTunes, but when the setup was done, and it as ready to install, an error occured. I forget the number of the error but it said that I had not given it verification of ownership and that the program could not be stopped. i have a vague idea of what i have to do, i have to wipe my comp clean of iTunes and then download the new version. The problem with that is that my brother is an arrogant idiot who has little patience for anything that he doesn't understand. That's why I'm reluctant to wipe iTunes clean. I know that we can just save our iTunes library in some folder or on a disk, but it'll take me a while to get it through to him that no harm will come. That being, does anyone know how to wipe iTunes off my account only, and then install iTunes 7 on my account only. I got my iPod video for X-mas and its proven to be utterly useless so far. I really hope that one of you can assist me because otherwise, i'll have to deal with a lumbering b

a few questions before proceeding.
are you getting an error message? if so, what does it say? include error message numbers if you're getting any.
or are you getting no error messages whatsoever when you try to launch itunes?
if you're getting no error messages whatsoever, do you just see the wee hourglass for a few seconds, and then nothing? if so, do you also have Norton Internet Security 2005 installed on that PC?
or are you seeing a brief "flash" of the itunes license screen (and then nothing)? if so, do you also see similar behavior when you try to launch your QuickTime?

You also have a narrow black line on the lower left side.
Increase the the magnification to 500% and select the black and the white lines with the Magic Wand (Continuous checked). Feather by one pixel. Sample the green right under the white line, make it the Foreground Color and fill the selection with it.

My old Iphone 5 died and nothing transferred to my new one. Need help with set up

SO my old Iphone 5 had a hardware crash and I was unable to get anything off of it before it died. I received my new one and plugged it into Itunes to download the stuff I backed up and hardly anything transferred to it except a few old apps, no contacts, no nothing. I then did a sync for all of my music and I thought it worked, but now I'm having to go to each individual song and download them from my phone which takes forever. Is there a way to download them all at once? Is there a way to get my contact list back? If so, how?

New to automator, need help with a pause command

OK, here's what I am trying to do. Open an shn (compressed audio) file with Shorten to decompress to WAV, then open the WAV with iTunes and convert to AAC.
I am unable to set a default folder for output from Shorten, so my current plan is to select all the files, doubleclick and set a desktop folder for the WAV output. I made a folder action for that destination to automatically convert to AAC with iTunes and delete the source files. That folder works fine if I drop all WAV files in, but when they get sent one at a time from Shorten, then only a few of the files get routed to iTunes and the rest stay in the folder unconverted.
I have tried to use "ask for confirmation" which did not work, neither did "wait for user action". I can't use "pause" because each job will be different so I cannot predict how long it will take.
This is my first attempt at Automator and I think I've done pretty well so far (setting the folder action took quite a while to figure out). Any advice would be appreciated.

Just a quick response, but...
I would try making a workflow that just takes the desktop, gets it's contents, filters them for WAV files, then does your iTunes-thing. It's not as easy as just having a folder action, but it should work correctly. Folder actions tend not to work as well when you aren't actually dropping items onto them. They're kind of glitchy in my opinion.

I have 2 computers and need help with ITunes I'm New!

I recently bought an iPod mini and have downloaded the iTunes to put music onto my iPod. This is on my main computer. Now I want to carry all of these songs over into my library which is empty onto my labtop and continue to put songs onto it. I have already downloaded iTunes for my labtop and everytime I go to plug in my iPod, iTunes opens automaticly and this message appears The iPod is linked to another iTunes music library. Do you want to change the link to this iTunes music library and replace all existing songs and playlists on this iPod with those from this library? I click no and this is wear I am at. If you want to use the iPod with more than one computer, you need to change to manual transfer as outlined here.

New Nikon D810 Owner needs help with LR RAW

I have CC and LR 5.5 64-bit, all up-dates are current. Cannot open/view RAW images from my new Nikon D810. Have tried various settings -- lossless compressed, compressed, uncompressed in camera and nothing works. What do I do? Also, while I have each image in both JPEG and RAW, when I go the LR transfer page it only shows me the non-visible RAW image is available. I;m confused. This did not happen with my Nikon d7100. Help? Thanks!

Need Help with iTunes Library in New OS

Hi.
I just switched operating systems from Windows XP 32-bit on a spinning drive to Windows 7 64-bit on a solid-state drive.
I keep my iTunes data on an external drive with the path M:\data\iTunes. I have organize files on, but all the music is in the iTunes folder and not in a music sub-folder.
When I set the path in the new OS and add the library the files all show up, but about half of the art is missing and none of the music will play because the file isn't where iTunes expects it to be. Podcasts won't play, either, and audiobooks aren't showing up at all..
I'm thinking this might be happening because iTunes is expecting the music, podcasts, and books to be in the "proper" subfolders.
Ideas, anyone? How can I fix?

Select a track and press CTRL+I to Get Info. Look at the location given on the summary tab. It should begin with file://localhost. Where is the file really? In some cases it may be possible to move the folders around so that the media is where iTunes expects to find it.
Alternatively you could move things into a more typical layout as shown in this diagram on the right.
And then use my script FindTracks to fix the broken links. I'd suggest you move the iTunes folder to the root of the drive first. See also my post on making a split library portable for background.
