New MBP retina won't charge
I bought my MBP retina (base model) on Saturday morning, and haven't plugged it in until this evening. Battery was sitting at 18%. When I plug it in to the 85W MagSafe power adapter, it does not charge. Specifically, the battery icon states: "Battery is not charging. Power Source: Power Adapter"
I've plugged the power adapter into multiple outlets with the long cable and the wall wart, and the result is the same. Thoughts? I wouldnt think I would have to restore the battery settings on the first go round...
If this were an ancient and well thumbed computer, we could spew tons of DIYs to try and coax the thing to charge. However, it is completely unacceptable on a new computer of this price.
Back up anything you have of value in it, pack it up in its box and back it goes to the store. And don't leave the place till you have a properly charging Mac, be it this one or a new unit. You do have a 14 day no questions asked return policy.

New MBP battery won't charge unless closed
I've had my 17' MBP for 3 months and I'm having more issues with it than my last 2 macbooks combined. My problem now is that the battery won't charge unless the laptop is closed, and yes, I use only Apple authentic chargers. I first thought it was a bad charger, so I ordered a new one from Apple and it still won't charge while I"m using it. Any ideas on what to do? Or why this would happen. I'm also having problems with trying to restart it after software updates, it tells me that Mail won't close so I can't restart, even when I quit mail prior to initiating the restart.
I have a feeling I'll get my money's worth out of Apple care this time around and I like the removable/replaceable battery on the older laptops, I wish they wouldn't have changed that.
Thanks!
KaraWent over my laptop with an Apple Genius today and did two things, one or both of which contributed to resolving this issue. The first thing was actually shutting the computer down and restarting it. I typically don't do that for weeks or months at a time and this can help some of the internal power settings establish a baseline.
The 2nd thing, which I think had the most impact, was to take the 980+ items on my desktop and move them into a single folder on my desktop. Each file icon on your desktop in OS X gets drawn using the same procedure as the one that renders an open Finder window. So each desktop icon is a separate object that gets managed, rendered and displayed by your graphics card and that means my graphics card was doing the work it would take to display over 1000 different Finder windows. That work is shouldered largely by the GPU, so it does not show up as CPU core activity in the Activity Monitor graphical plots, but it does seem to show up as part of the percentage of Finder CPU time that is reported in the list of running processes in Activity Monitor. That Finder CPU percentage was spiking a lot, as different events triggered a refresh of my desktop. I think it was this extreme overtasking of the GPU that was driving my laptop's power needs beyond what the adapter could supply. This would explain the correlation some people see with this problem and watching video, as well as a strange 25 second hang that I would see in the Finder after using Quick Look. This would also explain why people report having this problem recur after having their entire laptop or power adapter replaced. This is an easy fix to try, at least. YMMV. -
Bought a brand new charger and my MBP still won't charge. Ideas?
I left my laptop running overnight and the battery died as it does. I plugged my charger in - in the morning MBP Retina wouldn't charge, so I assumed it was because the charger had slightly come apart, as the cable was showing. I decided to buy a brand new charger at an extortionate price, and my laptop still won't charge! Any ideas why this could be? I have reset the SMC by holding down the shift+ctrl+option and power key but to no avail. My warranty just ran out, so I'm stressing out!! Please help.
If you don't have AppleCare, then your warranty has expired and you'll just have to buy a new MagSafe power adapter.

New MBP Retina Trackpad "jumps", doesn't select...
Has anyone had an issue with the trackpad in the (NEW) MBP (Retina or otherwise)? There are times when I "Tap" to move the cursor or select something new and it won't do it correctly, or it will jump off the point (or link, or whatever) that I'm trying to select. Occassionally, it takes a couple tries to get it to operate correctly.
I have tried changing the preferences--going both directions in sensitivity, but nothing seems to help (and that's about the only control we have now in the new OS). I prefer my setting to "Tap", rather than "click". If I wanted to make the click, it appears it wouldn't be an issue... I am just trying to keep it like I've had my previous MBP (mid-2009). Both MBPs have Mountain Lion installed, and the mid-2009 seems to work flawlessly with the "Tap" selected. Have already visited the Genius Bar twice--they have no solution.
Any input greatly appreciated. Thanks!I have the same EXACT problem. It doesn't do it all the time, and sometimes can go almost a minute without noticing it, and the it might do it 5 times in a row. I finally called Apple and we went through some resetting and such. It didn't do anything, and he asked me to create a new test user account and see if it happened there, which it did. He said since I was within the 14 day window, to exchange it and said he set it up in the computer and gave me a number. I guess I will go to the Apple Store on 14th St. tomorrow and exchange it? I dunno, I feel stupid exchanging it for such a minor (but definitely annoying) problem. I imagine a software update could fix it. I really doubt it's hardware (but the tech seams to think it is). Regardless, I shouldn't have to deal with this issue for such an expensive laptop

My MBP display is not working. Need to move data to new MBP Retina.
Hello.
My 3 yr old MBP display failed (display just showing vertical and horizontal lines).
I bought a new MBP Retina today.
Genius Bar told me to simply attach FireWire, then press "T" on old MBP to boot in Target Mode.
Then, look for old MBP HD icon on new MBP Retina desktop.
I cannot find old MBP icon on desktop.
I cannot transfer data from old MBP to new MBP Retina.
Any help would be appreciated?
KenGenius bar told you right - you need to start your old MBP up into target mode (booting while hold down the T key) but you need to have the right FireWire cable hooked up to the machines before you boot either. What year is your old model? Does it hve FW400 or FW800?
Here are the instructions from Apple - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661. Take a look at it and see if it helps. Also make sure that you have the Finder set so that external and remote disks will show up on your Desktop. When the disk mounts you can either just copy over files or, if you want to transfer accounts and associated directories, use Migration Assistant in your Utilities folder to copy over the info.
Good luck - call back if it's not working.

Update impossible on the new MBP Retina?
Hi! I got my new MBP Retina two weeks ago and since then I tried to update it several times, but there's always an error message saying "the package is broken" or something like this when I reboot it.
I mean it does try to install it when rebooting but it fails everytime.I tried to download every package from Apple website separately and install them apart with the same failure everytime. I'm wondering where the error is!!
I consider restore my session but if you happen to know anything before I do that it would be awesome and perhaps save me a great amont of time! Thanks a lot!
Configuration details :
Processor : 2.6 GHz intel Core i7
Memory : 16Go 1600 MHz DDR3
HD : 512 Go SSDWhat are you updating please?

Brand new MBP Retina constant kernal panics
I have a new MBP Retina with Mavericks 10.9.4 installed. I have received constant kernal panics since a few days into it. It seemed as though they were being cause by the io/logic boards, but those have both been replaced now. OS has been reinstalled multiple times to no avail. BSD and kernals blamed are all over the place (Dock, WindowsServer, mds; filesystems, AppleSMBusController, IOAcceleratorFamily)
The latest kernal panic is as follows:

I've got many more where that came from. I just don't want to post a wall of text.An update on my situation.
I had my macbook pro replaced with a brand new one by Apple, which was brilliant customer service.
Before giving back the old macbook, I decided to copy all my essential documents over to a usb stick. I also formatted my time machine external drive so it was blank.
Rather than restore this new macbook using my time machine backup, I set it up as a new machine and copied just my documents from my usb stick. I then proceeded to carry out fresh installs of software I regularly use but nothing non-essential (namely Spotify, Firefox, Chrome, xCode, Adobe CS5, Squidman, MAMP and Office 2011).
For three days everything worked beautifully - until last night when I had my first kernel panic on this machine. Nothing was running apart from firefox when this panic occured. The report is below and states the process which was running was 'plugin-container' which is part of firefox.
Below is the log output:

I'm running the latest OS X Mavericks - all updated to date.
I've tested the thunderbolt display with a friends MacBook Air and I see no problems there.
Any clues what is going on? Or it this latest Kernel Panic just a coincidence compared to my previous macbook?
Thanks in advance! -
Moving iDVD from old MBP to new MBP retina.
My old MBP (with internal super drive) is running 10.7.5 and has iDVD on it. Obviously the new MBP Retina does comes with 10.8.2 and does not have iDVD. Is there a way I can get iDVD off the old machine and install it on the new one? (I have the external Apple Super Drive and need to burn some DVDs)
Thanks!
TreyI think you can copy iDVD from the /Applications folder on your old Mac to your new Mac's /Application folder. If that doesn't work, you can use your SuperDrive and install iDVD from your iLife DVD.

New MBP-Retina (Indexing Question)
Hello.
I just bought a new MacBook Pro - Retina yesterday.
I am having difficulty transferring files from old MBP using Migration Assistant.
The old MBP display screen has failed, so I am unable to see screen promots / menus to go through the normal Migration Assistant process.
Instead, I am just hoping that the Transfer is occuring.
It appears that new MBP-Retina is (and has ben) INDEXING overnight.
Can anyone explain if INDEXING indicates that I have indeed started the file transfer from old MBP to new MBP-Retina?
Any ideas on how to start and/or confirm Transfer of data?
Thanks!

Screen capture on my new MBP Retina 15"
When I do a screen capture on my new MBP Retina 15" and paste it into Outlook or any other program it looks huge and distorted, how do I fix this?
I'm assuming it's because I am capturing the image in Retina 2880x1400 and then trying to paste that image into a non Retina enabled 3rd party program so it scales the image down which causes it to blow up the img and distort/pixelate.
I'm assuming there is a simple common sense fix for this which Iam obviously unaware of...?False alarm, took memory stick back to store and fault is same on shops mbp-r. They swapped it for a new one and now everything is fine. Sorry apple, how could I have doubted you!!

Sad day today - New MBP retina 15" and no scanner and no CS6
Walking back from happiness!
The first two week I was very amused with my new MBP retina 15" - I'm changing from Windows XP professional.
But now it looks like that I have to install bootcamp on the mac to run Windows 7 with my CS5 for PC.
Has anyone experience with installing bootcamp on mavericks.
Is it complicated, I'm a little afraid to destroy something?
GreetingsWell, my English is not so good so that my writing was missunderstandable.
I know that software for windows don't run on a mac.
So yesterday i bought a CS6 for mac... Tragedy...
Anyway ...
But now: Bootcamp
I read the manual, but I'm not sure if I understood it right...
First I load the drivers for windows from apple and save them on a stick?
Then I make a partition in the Festplattendienstprogramm?
Then I set in the DVD from Windows in the DVD-Player and start the installation?
After restart of Windows i start the drivers from the USB?
Please be so kind and correct me if I'm wrong. -
I have an older MacBook Pro now and it seems to suck air from the top below the screen and out the sides. With the new MBP if I have my computer on a desk etc it will collect from the bottom on both sides. Thus collecting more dust and blowing it out towards the screen. This would cause more dust build up on the compents inside the computer and on the screen.
Hi i,
You can vacuum those areas, and try to keep the surroundings clean, but beyond that, it is what it is. I've always vacuumed the keyboard and all openings (with the Mac turned off, of course) and never had any problem with dust inside. -
Brand New Macbook Pro Won't charge
I recently joined the Mac world, and purchased my first Mac, a Macbook Pro. I have had it less than 3 weeks and the battery won't charge. I have called the support line, several times and they had me take the battery out put it back in press 4 keys and restart worked a couple of times, but I had to do everytime I shut my computer down, not fun at all. Finally they sent me a new battery and that one doesn't charge either. I'm kind of frustrated with the entire process, I was thrilled to be advancing in the technology world but now am very disappointed with the service to help get this issues resolved. So now I have a product I can't use, brand spanking new laptop collecting dust, and the only solution they have for me is to drive 100 miles to an apple certified dealer to have them look at it, only open Mon - Fri. So know I have to take off work, drive way out my way to have someone look at my computer. But the catch is they might charge me even though I purchased the extended 3 year apple warranty. So know I'm back to using my PC. My thrill is gone. All I want is to use my laptop, and experience the Mac way, does anyone have any solutions. So far my experience with mac support is not too thrilling what's the purpose of purchasing the warranty and I recieve no help on their end. HELP?
that doesn't make any sense.... you have a 3 year warranty... they can't charge you... thats the point of the warranty!!
you don't have to drive out to drop your laptop off.... call apple care and they will send you a box in the mail so then you can put your laptop in it and send it back to them so they can repair what they need to repair.... you said that you can't use it anyways so i guess it wouldn't matter that you would be out a laptop for a few weeks....
I wouldn't let them say they cannot do anything for you, thats just ridiculous, you paid good money for your computer as well as a warranty... be persistent. -
New ipod touch won't charge/sync on the computer or using a wall charger?
My new ipod touch was working and i synced it on itunes and downloaded some apps and then it suddenly could not recognise it and stopped syncing.
it came up with error 0xe8000001 and said the iphone cannot be found, eventhough it's an itouch not iphone.
Now the error does not come up but it's not recognised on any of the computers. The cable is fine as it works for other ipods. It won't charge on the wall charger either and the battery is almost out. It syncs for about one second when i plug the usb into the computer and beeps and then disconnects again.
Please help?First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely. Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

Best way to mix multiple camera angles from multiple performances?
There has to be a slick way to do this, but I can't seem to figure it out. I'm hoping someone can offer their advice on the best way to approach this project. (I'm using Premiere Pro CS4) I have footage from 2 performances of a high school play that
