New MBP running 10.5.2 and scrolling glitch in Safari

I have a new MBP with OS 10.5.2 and unlike my iBook G4 that it replaced, if I scroll at normal speed in Safari using the trackpad, text within Web pages is completely gorked. If I scroll really slowly, it can be ok. Suggestions? Sounds like a bug to me.

David, as your machine is clearly under warranty you should contact the Apple dealer you bought from to have it fixed. If the dealer acknowledges that it is a known (by Apple) fault make sure that your complaint is registered so that it will be fixed whenever Apple resolve the issue.
If the dealer and/or Apple don't acknowledge the problem exists then contact Apple support directly and be firm and insist on the problem being fixed - perhaps by replacing the computer for you.

  • I have a new MBP running 10.7.5 and I do not have idvd, anyone know why or how I can get this please?

I am a newbie to imovies and the proper procedure on the tutorials I have watched demonstrate that to burn a project to media, in this case a dvd, I need idvd, can somone point me in the right direction please?

Hello there! I had the same thing with mine. I google'd around a bit and found out that iDVD along with iWeb were discontinued, thus no longer being included even though it was advertised iLife 11' had those apps. but from what i was told iLife 11' on the MacBook Pro 2012s were different.
I called Applecare and complained and my argument was that it was advertised my Mac had iLife 11' so i should get the FULL iLife 11' so eventually they sent me out a disk with the other 2 apps on it. I suggest you call them and see if they can do the same.
    Hope that helps.

  • MBP running hot, full fans and sluggish with both Safari and Firefox

    Hi guya,
Im having problems with my kate 2007 MBP.
Im sure lately it seems to be running slower and slower and more and more sluggish - I was hoping my Mac wouldn't be subject to "slowdown" like every PC ive ever owned has.
The biggest problem is that if i use either Safari or Firefox to browse the web, they quickly start using 80-100% of my processor causing everything else to run sluggish, the computer to get hot, processors to run up to 90 degrees and fans on full.
Perhaps i multitask more than some people - I can tend ot have a lot of tabs open in Firefox, but sometimes Safari or Firefox show this behaviour with just one tab open.
I do multitask by having about 8 programs open at once and I jump from job to job, but in its early life the MBP used to deal with this - now i feel that i type faster than writing appears on screen, i have to wait ages to work in programs like indesign, and forget trying to run a game like The Sims...
Does everyone else have the 100% processor problems with Safari (and yes im on version 4, and the latest version of firefox too) the only browser which doesn't give me these problems is Opera - I can have many tabs open and it uses very little CPU, I just dont like use Opera as much as Firefox which is my browser of choice.
But why would my OSX run differently to anyone elses? Is there a problem with my Macbook, is there a problem with OSX (does it need installing again?) Is it just time for me to buy a new Macbook Pro - or if I run firefox on that will i get the same problem? Ive got nearly 30gb of spare HD space and maxed it out with 4gb of Ram - so neither of those are causing a problem either...
    Any input would be great...

Have you tried restarting the comp? Sometimes a simple refresh will cure the sluggishness.
Try running repair permissions from your HD and afterwards run +repair disk+ from your software install DVD.
Regarding your comp running hot, make sure it is properly ventilated while in use. The MBP is not a laptop. According to the user manual it states in part:
+"Do not operate your MacBook Pro on a pillow or other soft material, as the material can block the airflow vents. Never place anything over the keyboard when operating your MacBook Pro. Never push objects into the ventilation openings."+

  • I have a MBP running 10.6.8 and after the recent iOS update I have not been able to sync my devices. I was able to sync an ipod, but not iphone or ipad. iTunes recognizes my devices, but sync button stays grayed.

I have a older MBP running 10.6.8 and after the recent iOS update I have not been able to sync my devices. I was able to sync an ipod, but not iphone or ipad. iTunes recognizes my devices, but sync button stays grayed. I've changed my USB hub, reinstalled iTunes and run disc cleanup. No luck.

You said that your computer will sync other iPods? Are they iPod touches? Other iPod use different drivers the the touch And iPhone and iPad).
    You can try:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
Does it charge? Does the iPod work?
I would try on another computer.
Last, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

I recently (Jan 2012) acquired a MacBook Pro (MBP) running 10.7.4 and an AirPort Express.  I also have an old PPC G4 tower (Digital Audio model) running 10.4.11.  The OS software on both machines is totally up to date.  AirPort Utility on the G4 is 5.4.2 and on 6.0 on the MBP.  I bought a used AirPort card for the G4, I believe it is 802.11b compatible, and the wireless data rate is specified at 11 Mbps.  Being a newbie to wireless, it took me many days to get these two machines to link up.  This network is not connected to the internet, and there no other networks in the vicinity.
My last problem to solve is the very slow file transfer speeds between the two machines. The transfer time seems to vary depending on which machine I use to initiate the transfer, and which direction the transfer is going.  For example: If I initiate the transfer from the G4 and send a 5.4MB file to the MBP it takes 1:32 (min:sec), while the same file going from the MBP to the G4 takes 27 seconds.  On the other hand if the transfer is initiated on the MBP, going from the MBP to the G4 takes 2:56, while going from the G4 to the MBP takes 1:59.  I realize that these times are not actual wireless transfer times but includes the entire transfer process.
Both machines and the AirPort Express are within a 4-foot radius.  Both machines are set to radio channel 2.  The AirPort Express is set for 802.11n(802.11b/g compatible) with WPA/WPA2 Personal wireless security.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    BDAqua,
    Thanks for the response.
Apple has used the term "Digital Audio" to identify this machine.  System Profiler has the following information:
    Machine Name:          Power Mac G4
      Machine Model:          PowerMac3,5
      CPU Type:          PowerPC G4  (2.1)
      Number Of CPUs:          1
      CPU Speed:          800 MHz

      Bus Speed:          133 MHz
      Boot ROM Version:          4.3.3f2
      Serial Number:          XBxxxxxMK9
      Sales Order Number:
Yes, I could connect them by ethernet if all I wanted to do was transfer files, but I would like to network them so I could use wireless internet.  The machines are not always so close together, I did that to simplify the testing.  With the very slow transfer speeds I am reluctant to move ahead with the internet step.

  • Hey i bought a brand new MBP like 6 months ago and now it won't charge

i bought a brand new MBP like 6 months ago and now it won't charge. I tried using a friends MBP charger of the same year as my computer but it still says not charging at the top right corner of the computer screen where the charging symbol is. This problem just happened out of nowhere because it was working the day before then the next day it just stopped working saying it is not charging. I tired doing all of the suggested techniques to fix it but not luck.
This is the battery report is when my MBP is either connected to my charger or my friends charger which works perfectly on her computer.

  • My new MBP is really messed up and I am wondering what I should do.

(sorry for the mess of a post. I just had the good news of having brain cancer and they put this dressing all over my entire head I can barely see, but I want to post this, so I am going to give it a shot.)
I went to see a genius at the local apple store. After spending 1 hour trying to fix all the software and hardware issues, he went to the back of the store, came back and said we are getting you a new MBP with all the equivalant upgrades you had with the other one (the one that had all the problems). I received the new MBP, the same genius said if I leave my old MBP with him he will transfer all the data over and call me when it is done. I got the new MBP, have had it for about 3 weeks and there are more problems than ever. I have no idea what this would do to a new computer but the genius transfered all my data/files/settings over to my new MBP and he did this before or without fixing all the software problems I was having on the computer he transfered my date from.
Now my software updates... is not working. I read the article, trashed 3 apple.softwareupdates.com preferences wit no help. I find out that he said after I asked about iLife; "yes you will get iLife, all Apple computers come with iLife. There is no iLife 09 just my old iLife 08. When I spotlight iLife 09, no iLife comes up only in emails. It does not even pick up my old 08iLife that is in a folder which was transfered over from my old computer.
The manager at the apple store said to install iLife09 from the gray disk. However, for some reason the new updates my computer needs are not triggering the software updater telling me there are new updates. It looks like the genius did an update before I picked it up and it updated one security issue, but no iTunes 9/1/1 or any other updates I should have received when I look at all the recent MBP update (Apple updates only) list.
When I do go to look at the current updates for this computer it brings me to an Apple website that has all my old updates from the old MBP and in a Finder file it shows all the updates from the old computer and just the one that the genius updated for me.
Does any body have any idea what I should do? It is frustrating. I would like to just start from the beginning with the new computer, wipe everything off and install it all new and get rid of all the stuff from my old MBP that was transfered to my new MBP.
    Thank for any help.

I would wipe the hard drive and start from scratch. The only thing I would save from the old comp are documents, movies and music also make sure you have any passwords or mail that you need to keep. I would avoid Time Machine and just do a normal backup. Boot from the installer and go to disk utilities in the menu and erase the hard drive. When that is done do a custom install and avoid any demos and software you don't use. Install QuickTime 7 from the optional installs.
Then manually download and install the OS updates before installing any third party apps avoiding the combos. Depending on your install OS version you may not need all those below.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosxv1061update.htm l
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosxv1062update.htm l
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1018
When you are done run software update and install the security updates only. When you are done with those you can install whatever application updaters there are and then move on to installing your third party apps.
Hope everything works out for you.

  • Does the new MBP run hot?

I'm looking to buy the new MBP 15". Does anyone know if it runs hot? My current white polycarbonate first generation Intel Macbook always runs ridiculously hot.
    Thanks!

Picked up a new 15" very recently. Subjective heat evaluation:
9400M: Very cool during general use (web browsing/email/etc...) Warm during gaming (WoW).
9600M GT: Warm during general use. Hot during gaming. VERY hot in Windows, gaming or not.
Of note, Windows only sees the 9600M GT, and gets uncomfortably hot (to the point I'm not only uncomfortable using it on my lap, but feel like I ought to be pointing a fan at the bottom-left (where the GPU is located).
The laptop was never uncomfortable on the 9400M, even while running WoW with the laptop directly on my lap. Just pleasantly warm. Same circumstances with the 9600M GT enabled I needed to throw a lapdesk under it, but it didn't get nearly as hot as under Windows.

  • Getting new MBP within a months time and need help !!!!!!

I will be ordering a new MBP and I am having some difficulty deciding weather to get the 15" 2.16 with a 100gig 7200rpm HDD and then manually upgrade to 2gigs of ram or get the 17" 2.16 with the 100gig 7200rpm HDD and do the same with the ram. this laptop will be my first laptop and I will be mostly using it for web browsing, email, and some word processing, MP3's. right now I have 2 desktops I use one a windows based for games and a mac mini for mac based desktop needs, both the mini and my windows run off my 17 inch LCD. so I guess my question is the 17" really what I need or will the 15" be good enough and what about the super drives 15" being 4x and the 17" being 8x is there a big difference in burning time for videos.

Since my techie knowledge is pretty limited, I have a question of the yonah vs merom. I hear that yonah is 32 bit and merom is 64 bit. More seems better but if all I do, on average, is use my future MBP for citrix programs (electronic medical records, specifically), websurfing, occasional picture editing with iphoto (cause I'm too cheap to buy better software that I can't count as a tax deduction), preparing powerpoint presentations, and i guess now making little imovies (and I mean very short clips) since I'll have a dvd burner. Phew! run on sentence....so, would having merom make much difference? And yeah, a macbook would probably serve me well, but I want the 15" screen. I plan on keeping it for 4 years +/- a year depending on how my needs change after residency. I don't do gaming except for weak pogo games every once in a while (cause I need breaks from reading about diseases).
Is it really worth it for me to wait? at first I waited cause I lacked the cash. Now I have my tax refund to help defray the cost. Oh and then I had a immediate need because my powerbook screen started separating due to trauma I inflicted on it when I was having wireless issues. I found a cheap fix so the urgency from the standpoint of need went away.
At this point, I would only wait because I intend on having it for a long time and I want the best I can get. Will having a yonah now make it difficult to get software, use future OSX versions, or otherwise difficult to function? I imagine that at least Leopard will work on the current systems otherwise all the folks complaining of "obsolete" machines after the last mini update would burn apple headquarters to the ground. And it really would make no sense to sell machines that can't use software being made ready for release. I actually decided against even going to tiger on this computer because I figured I'd wait for my new computer.
Why torture myself by waiting if it won't make a lick o difference?

  • Is the fact that the new MBP with Retina display, has choppy scrolling in safari, a reason not to buy it? Can it be fixed through software?

I am debating buying a new MBP with Retina or a Macbook Air. I am looking for more info on wat people have been saying about lag in safari. Thanks!

Hey fredryan..did you end up getting the rMBP?  I too am a little concerned about the screen performance while I wait for mine to ship.  If you have gotten yours do you mind commenting on how Mountain Lion affected it?  Is the lag still a big issue?  Thanks!

You are over working your RAM. Your machine should be able to take more RAM.
The 2 places I’ve seen recommended most to buy reliable RAM are below. I have purchased RAM several times from Other World Computing and have always been very satisfied with the product and service. They have on-line instructions on how to replace the RAM. OWC has also tested RAM above what Apple states is the maximum. I now have 6GB installed on a machine supposedly limited to 4 GB.

  • Cloned HD running Snow Leopard won't boot in new MBP running Lion., cloned HD running Snow Leopard won't boot in new MBP running Lion.

Hi, I've seen a lot of discussion on this topic but nothing specific to my situation.  I have two macs, a personal mac (macbook running Snow Leopard vers. 10.6) and a newer work macbook pro (late 2011 running Lion vers. 10.7.5).  I want to use some of the applications at work (that is on the Macbook Pro) that are on my home macbook with Snow Leopard.  I cloned the entire HD of my Macbook onto an external drive.  The clone seems to have worked as I can use it as a boot disk for the macbook (from which it was cloned).  However, if I try to boot the MacBook Pro running Lion, with this same clone on the external drive it won't work.  I get a bit of text in the background and an overlay in dark grey saying (in several languages) restart the Mac by holding down the start key etc.  I don't know if this has to do with the kernel panic problem or the Lion restore disk business.  I don't see the point in trying to do an internal partition of the MacBook Pro hard drive and then add the cloned Snow Leopard, if I can't get the thing to boot externally as it is.
Does anyone have any fixes for what really should be a simple proceedure but is not?

Make sure the mac you are cloning from has the combo 10.6.8 update applied to it. The late 2011 models need at least 10.6.7 and better with 10.6.8. So if your older mac is running anything lower than 10.6.7 it will not boot on the 2011 model.

  • MBP running hotter than usual and shutting off randomly

    Hey everyone,
I have a MBP 2.16Ghz, it's about 20 months old. About a year ago I had some problems with it and Apple replaced my battery and my motherboard. The machine was running fine without any problems. This week I realized that the MBP was becoming hotter than normal and that the fans were running a lot more frequently. Eventually the MBP shut down on me randomly while running it on an almost full battery. I then decided to reset the SMC and re-install the Intel 10.4.11 combo update. While using the MBP on a full battery, once again the fans kicked in while just surfing the web. The fans would never turn on before while surfing the web. All of a sudden the MBP just shut down on me. I really have no idea what the problem could be. Unfortunately I'm out of warranty. If anyone has any suggestions or similar issues please do post. Thanks.

Thanks a lot for your reply. I did run the Apple Hardware Test and after running both normal and extended tests no trouble was found. I managed to download the widget called iStat Pro, I realized that my CPU was idling at 50%, and the CPU temperature was 80 degrees Celsius. This caused my fans to run consistently at 6000RPM. I discovered that the random shut down while running on the battery was caused by too much current being drained by the system. So as you suggested, it was indeed happening for safety reasons.
By looking at the Activity Monitor and selecting all processes I saw that a process called printjobmgr was utilizing 100% of the CPU. I found this strange as I had performed several restarts and would have expected this process to terminate on its own. As soon as I used Force Quit, everything returned to normal. Strangely, every time I print something, the printjobmgr starts up and utilizes 100% of the CPU. This lasts until the printing is finished. I still was unable to find a permanent solution to this.

  • I have a new MBP with high-res display, and the color seems washed out compared to my old MBP.  Is this normal?

Putting the two laptops side by side, blacks on my old machine look dark grey on the new one.  I also have 24" and 27" cinema displays, and the new high res laptop display looks washed out in comparison.
I have tried to recalibrate the screen color settings, but this doesn't seem to make much difference.
Any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    David.

Yes, the gamma settings are the same on all 4 displays (my two laptops and the two displays).
After a little experimentation, I think that it's down to the brightness of the high resolution display.  It would seem that it is slightly dimmer than the low-res one on my other 15" MBP, so I think that Apple have set the default colour profile to be slightly washed out to compensate.  If I use the same profile on the high-res MBP screen as on the low-res MBP screen, then the colour is much better.
The cinema displays are a lot better than the laptop displays, but I was expecting the new high-res display to be as good as the old low-res one - especially as I paid a lot more money for it!
Ah well!  I think I might take it into the store and just check that it is the norm for this...
    Thanks for your help.
