New Media Kind = Home Video

iTunes 11 has made changes to the classification of Videos.
A new Media Kind classification includes Home Video.  However the smart playlist does not include this as a selectable option.  I have submitted feedback to Apple on this point.
Anyone know how this can be worked around?

You could move the video to a different location.
Select the video in Home Videos > Control-click > Get info > Options > Media Kind.
Hope that helps

  • Cannot change media kind on videos

iTunes will not let me change the media kind of videos I've imported. I want to change them from movie to tv show as have previously done on a windows version of iTunes, but since moving to mac it is not letting me. Is there any way round this as I would like a tidy library with all my TV shows grouped together.
    Thanks

    Open iTunes.
Select the file(s) you want to change. You may have to do this one at a time. Press command–i (Info). Go to the Options tab, and change the media type to TV show.
I just tried it on a movie, and it works just fine.

  • Only Audio options under Media Kind for Video files

I am trying to assign a number of video files to media type "Music Video". However, when I Get Info for them, select Option and click on the Media Kind drop down, I only have audio options (Music, Podcast, iTunesU, Audiobook, Voice Memo) and not video options. The videos play alright in iTunes and as far as I can tell the file type and settings are the same as files that do have the video options. Does anyone know how to assign these files?

the only way i can think of is to set in the video options, the tv output to ask i think it is so when you select a video to play it comes up and asks if you want to play through tv and if you say yes it doesnt play it on thew ipod because it thinks you are watching it on a tv so you can hear it but not see it. i think this should work

  • New Media Encoder Error: video and/or audio filters are missing...

My colleague reported this error popup window while using Adobe Media Encoder CC (up-to-date):
"video and/or audio filters are missing and the rendered output may not match the original"
I've been seeing similar errors the past few days. I can't remember if the wording was the same in the errors I saw, but the circumstances were the same.
I've never seen this popup error before the most recent CC update.
    Some background info:
I queued up multiple Premiere Pro pproj files as usual from within Premiere
without rebooting or deleting any cache or temp files or anything, I start the queue
I have no special plugins installed in Premiere. Vanilla CC install.
    Windows 7, 64-bit
This error doesn't tell me what audio/video filter(s) are missing. The output files, once I dismiss this warning, are perfect.
The major problem: It stops the queue dead in it's tracks. Sure, it might seem handy to stop and give you a warning, but when it's a false report and there's nothing wrong, it's killing us, because we queue up multiple files for encoding overnight, and we're not here to get the popups.
What is likely causing this? Is it a bug that this is appearing so frequently? Has anyone else experienced this besides my colleague and I?
    Thanks!

Update for anyone experiencing this issue:
We are still investigating the cause of the issue and would really like your help tracking it down. If you run in to it I would be happy to jump on the phone with you and preferably do a screenshare as well. If you want to run some tests for me, this is what may help us track it down:
    0. Please make sure you are updated to the latest version of Premiere Pro and AME, which at this time are Premiere Pro 7.2.1 and AME 7.2.
    1. Simplify the project. Create a copy of the project and eliminate anything in the project that isn't related to the sequence(s) you are exporting. Then run the encode again. If it still occurs, move to the next step. If it doesn't occur any more, repeat step one and only remove half of the unused items (sorry, this is giong to be a manual process). Rinse, repeat.
    2. Open your sequence in Premiere and press Cmd/Ctrl + A to select all clips in your sequence. Right click and select Remove All Effects. Export again. No repro? Go to step 4. If it still repros, go to step 4.
    3. Make all the media offline. Export again. No repro? Go to step 4. Repro? Go to step 5.
    4. Send me a message with as much detail as possible. Even better would be if you could provide me a copy of your project file.
Your help in tracking this issue down is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • Can't change the type of media from Home videos to TV Shows.

My aim is to organize videos into folders, so I followed the well known workaround to change the type of videos to 'TV Show' and group them by name of the 'show'. After changing the type, videos are moved to 'TV Shows', but when I try to play them on iPad, the player shows up for a fraction of second and closes (the "downloading" icon appears, of course running endlessly, since the files are mine, not downloaded). After that, when I try to play the video in iTunes, the exclamation mark appears, and the only thing I can do with the video is delete it...
I have, in fact, succeeded in this conversion with one of the files, but only once. After deleting it and trying once again, the same problem appeared. Is this a software bug, or a new feature in iOS 8.1 and the only thing I can do to get my videos organized is rely on third party apps?

OK, the problem is solved. I've beed uploading the videos directly to iPad ("On My Device" section) and then trying to change the type to TV Show, while I should first import them into iTunes library, then change the type, and finally sync.

  • How do I change the default media kind on iTunes 11?

When I add movies to my iTunes, they are automatically labeled under the media kind "Home Videos". Is there a way to change the default media kind to "Movies"? It's very tedious to have to go to Options, then choose Movies under Media Kind for every new movie I add. And I have no intention of waiting until I've added many movies to change them as a batch. My videos are always Movies, so the Home Video option is useless to me. Any ideas?

You're stuck with things the way they are unless Apple decide to change it. There are no options to make it behave as you wish, and Media Kind isn't available as a property that can be modified by a script or I could offer you a one tap fix-it icon.

  • Music Videos [Media Kind] is not playable on iOS 5.0.1 update

Well, my cousin and I just recently updated our iDevices (iPod Touch 4th Gen for me and iPhone 4 for him) to iOS 5.0.1 and we got this very annoying bug. The Media Kind: Music Video is not playing in our devices. We tried bringing this to nearest MAC Store and they advised us that it is a known issue to the new iOS 5.0 update. Well I already reported this to Apple but they havent replied to me yet as to confirm if this is a known issue with iOS 5 or bug iTunes media conversion. Hope to hear any feedbacks from them regarding this

If this was an iOS bug there'd be howls of pain all over the internet, which is not the case. Likely your iOS 5.0.1 installation went awry, so try the usual steps:
    Power OFF/ON
    Reset
    Restore from Backup
    Restore, then load last backup
Restore as a new device (i.e. don't load a backup)
One of those will surely correct the problem.  If not, time to contact your carrier to see if something got tweaked with your account.

  • IPad Video app mixes Movies and Home Video Kinds

In iTunes I have videos that are of 'Video Kind' Movie and also 'Video Kind' Home Video.  These show up nicely on the AppleTV, segregated according to their "Kind".  On my iPad Air, however, the Video app mixes them all together under its heading of "Movies" when I use Home Sharing to access my iTunes Library from the iPad.
How can I get my Home Videos to be distinguished from my Movies on the iPad?
(And, is there any way to have the title show up on the thumbnail page?  In combination I have thousands of shows and it's hard to tell what's what!)

    Hello Brian,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you’re running into an issue playing iTunes Store content on your iPad Air, and you’ve already tried restarting the device and syncing the movies a second time. If you haven’t already, try backing up and restoring the device as shown in the article linked below.

  • Saving Media Kind, Position & Shuffling in ID3 Metadata for MP3 Audiobooks?

Hello, I have a problem saving "media kind" - audioboks as file metadata independent of iTunes.
I recently purchased an iPhone however I am pretty apathetic to iTunes - I use it as my only media player at the moment because of the iPhone, however I want my collection to work with whatever software I use now as well as whatever platform I use 10 years from now, hence my dependence on 3rd party tools to save metadata. iTunes has it's own nice little database but I do not want to be at the whim of this database everytime I want to transfer files to another computer, or in the event of a catastrophic data failure. I have already witnessed this with album art, where I add art in iTunes but it does not save the art in the actual mp3 file.
So I sorted my music collection using MB Picard, Tag&Rename, MediaMonkey and Evillyrics. It's all looking nice, with full ID3 metadata including genre and cover art. Now it's time to organise my collection of DRM-free Audiobooks which are currently in MP3 format.
Initially I looked into converting all the MP3s into AAC files, then into M4B, and I tried this method manually in iTunes as well as using various software, including one called MarkAble, which saves the chapter info, and does some other nice stuff. While this is one way of organising audiobooks, it is a time intensive method. In iTunes 8, with the new ability to select "Audiobook" as media kind, I can keep my files as MP3s and save some time and effort.
My problem lies in the fact that this new media kind field is not actually saved in the ID3 metadata. When I add an audiobook to iTunes and set the media kind to audiobook, if I then remove the files from my iTunes library, then add them in again, iTunes has forgotten that they were tagged as Audiobooks, and they are back in my main library with my music, and media kind is set back to music, with remember position and skip when shuffling also unticked.
Unfortunately, 3rd party tools are of little help here. Tag&Rename does have a music/video field where you can select Audiobook, however after tagging that, iTunes does not see these files as audiobook, so I assume "media kind" must be a non-standard field for iTunes, like how Apple used TPE2 band/orchestra as "Album Artist". Mediamonkey users have the same issue with no "media kind" field available, as described here: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=41731
So can anyone help me - is there a way I can save the media kind, skip when shuffling and remember position information independent of iTunes?

With iTunes 8.x you have the option to tell iTunes to treat any audio file as an audiobook. Simply select the tracks, *Get Info.*, then on the options tab set *Media kind* to Audiobook. You can also set options to *Remember playback position* and *Skip when shuffling*.
Assuming, however, that the books consist of more than one file you may have problems if you plan to listen to them on an iPod. The Audiobooks feature was originally designed for books that have been stitched up into a single file and hasn't been updated to reflect the changes that now make multi-track audiobooks easy to work with in iTunes. The main issue is that the iPod lists all audiobook files by track title/chapter name so unless you rename every track using a scheme such as *Book Title, Chapter XX* the tracks will play out of sequence. There are tools for creating iPod-friendly audiobooks for which Aldo on Audiobooks is probably the best reference. Personally I don't bother with the extra effort and just have an "Audiobooks" playlist folder containing sub-folders for each author and within these playlists for each audiobook. Although I still mark the files as Audiobooks to keep them out of my main music section when it comes to the iPod I ignore it's Audiobooks feature and use my own playlists for access.
Note that I've used leading digits in the playlist names to arrange these in chronological rather than alphabetical order.
As Chris notes Media Kind, Remember Playback Position & Skip When Shuffling are not recorded in the tag and so forgotten if files are removed & reimported. Apple could have implemented these via custom fields as with their Compilation flag but have chosen not to do so. If you give all your audiobooks the genre "Audiobook" then it is fairly simple to create a smart playlist with the rules *Genre is "Audiobook"* AND *Playlist is not Audiobooks*. Any files that turn up in this playlist can then have their attributes adjusted.

  • The iTunes11 "Home Video" debacle white paper

The "stik" atom is a value within an mpeg file indictes the type of video it is (Movie, TVShow, MusicVideo, HomeVideo, etc). The stik atom has used both the value 0 and 9 for movies. It seems that the value 0 was deprecated a while back, but prior to iTunes11, value of 0 still defaulted to a movie. It seems that value 0 has now been (in iTunes11) re-defined to indicate a new catagory called "Home Video."
When you first drag or add an encode into iTunes, iTunes reads this atom value from the file. If iTunes sees a 9 then iTunes considers it a Movie. If it sees a 0 (or no stik atom) then it considers it a Home Video and sorts the encode into the "Home Videos" tab.
Many tagging/encoding softwares (like MetaZ/MetaX) have historically written the value 0 to the stik atom when the user assigned the type "Movie" to the encode. This wasn't a problem before iTunes11. But now it is.  All encodes that were tagged with MetaZ contain a stik of 0 for movies, and thus will group them as Home Videos when dragged into iTunes11. If the encodes were already in iTunes' library when you updated to iTunes11, they will remain grouped as movies, unless you remove them from your library and re-add them. Then they will appear as Home Videos. This is because iTunes only reads the stik atom once, when the encode is added to the library. After an encode is added, you might change the Type in iTunes "get info", but iTunes does not write a new Stik to the file, it only updates its internal database. Thus you may have a lot of encodes which iTunes will continue to consider Movies for now, but by file specification, they are now Home Videos.. and if you rebuild your library for some reason, you'll wind up with a load of Home Videos.
(MetaZ has been updated as of v1.0a13, 04-Dec-2012 and now writes a value of 9 to the atom for movies.)
A solution proposed by many on this forum to the problem of mis-categorized encodes is using iTunes' GetInfo tab to change encodes' type from Home Video to Movie, or vice versa. As I mention above, iTunes does not write this change to the file, only to iTunes' internal database. So iTunes' definition of the file differs from the file's own self-identity. Smart!
Another oddity is that the AppleTV GUI (as of 5.1.1) does not offer the same Home Video grouping that iTunes11 does. On the AppleTV, both types are displayed merged as Movies in the movie list. So it seems that Itunes11 catagorization has departed importantly from iOS.
You should also be aware that as of this date, although iTunes' GUI now differentiates between Movies and Home Videos, iTunes applescript interface does not seem to have been updated. When using Applescript to determine the type of an encode, a Home Video will be returned as a Movie.
Using Applescript to set the video kind (type) does not seem to coax iTunes to write to the file either, only its internal database.

    Hi Jan,
I've one remark regarding the way you have implemented your CompareDatesRule.
In the SRDemo, the implementation is different.
When I try to follow the steps described in 6.1.2.1.3, I got a completely different generated class that looks more that what has been done in the SRdemo.
My generated validation class implements JboValidatorInterface (which is not exactly what is done in SRDemo !) and not JbiValidator as your code show.
Could you comment on the pros and cons of each approach please ?
    Thanks,
    Seb.
    PS : I've found the following on Steve Muench's blog : http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/stories/2004/10/20/creatingAReusableDateRangeValidationRule.html
which rather goes your way. Since SRDemo is more recent, is it an indication of the orientation taken by the ADF BC validation APIs ?

  • ITunes 9.2 Media kind

After I upgraded itunes to 9.2, All my music videos went from Media kind (Music videos) to just (Music).
Now my iPhones after syncing only plays the music not the videos, now when I select a single music video and go to info I can only select media kind, Music, Podcast, iTunes U, AudioBook, or Voice memo,
But not Music Video, or TV Show, Or Movies Like before. If I select all the Music Videos and go to info only then I can select Music Videos, but I when I select the Music Videos Option it just wont work, or do the changes.
After the Upgrade the iTunes Music Videos Playlist Is Empty.
    Please Help

try if this script can help:
_*Set Video Kind of Selected v3.1*_
+This script will change the video kind property of the selected tracks to your choice of "Movie", "Music Video" or "TV Show". Additionally, "Show Name", "Season Number", and "Episode Number" can also be set or cleared for each selected track.

Protected files, such as those purchased from the iTunes Store, cannot be changed. Requires iTunes 7 or better.+

  • Ipad is deleting videos when you change the media kind to TV Shows

Ever since I updated to iOS 8, I have noticed that files that I have changed the media kind from "Home Video" to "TV Show", to better organize my videos on my ipad, are deleted when I press on them to play in the Videos app.
Is anyone else having this problem since updating to iOS 8? This is frustrating as now I have to leave them as regular "Home Video" kinds which means I have to wade thru a mess of files to find the video i want to watch while working out or studying.

I have the same issue on an Ipad with iOS 8, when adding videos via itunes on a MacBook Air. Also the videos that where on the Ipad pre-update in TV Shows and Movies tabs, went from playable to not playable. All videos in home videos tab work. It seems only when 'Media Kind' is changed is there a problem.
Temp work around is keeping all videos as home videos. Hmmm frustrating but may classify as a first world problem?

    Hello,
I think you can try two things : the soft reboot, and if it does not work, the hard reboot. Don't worry, you can't lose data with these two reboots.
    Soft reboot :
    1) Hit the three following keys at the same time :
    - Alt
    - Right Shift
    - Delete
    2) wait 2 minutes for the Blackberry to wake up.
    Hard reboot :
    1) your Blackberry device is on
    2) remove the battery and wait for a minute
    3) Put the battery back
    4) wait 5 minutes for the device to wake up.
Please tell us if it works for you.

  • I am trying to synch home video with my new iPhone 5, but I cannot, despite they are MPEG-4

I can import videos in itunes and I can play with iTunes, but gthey are recorded into the Home Video section of iTunes. When I synch my iPhone only the video present in "film" section is uploaded in the phone...
Is there anything specific I need to do? May be using a specific concerter, or use specicif resolution?
    Thank you for help

They have to be in a format that will play on your phone, before they will sync. You can convert them in iTunes by selecting one of the videos, then going up to File>Create New Version>Create iPod/iPhone Version. You can also use third-party software, like this:

Has presets for iPod/iPhone/iPad buit in.
