New Message Indicator Problem

I just updated my 8300 to the latest software and something new has started. I have 3 email accounts setup through BIS to my device which creates 3 email folders on my device for each corresponding account. The old way I received new mail messages and notifications was a red star on the corresponding email icon and the message count for each account in parenthesis next to the email address for the account.
After I installed the latest software, I get mail sent to both the generic messages folder and the corresponding account. But only the messages folder has the red star/flag. I want it to go back to the way it was (nothing in generic folder and new email in the corresponding icon with a red star/flag for each new message on each account) and can't figure it out (I do have my messages (SMS and EMAIL inboxes) set to separate in the options folder).
Please help!

Thanks for your reply. I found out the solution by accident. Under message options-->Email reconciliation-->Confirm Delete set to prompt (options on handheld only, handheld and mailbox, prompt). for some reason when I changed it from handheld only to prompt it seperated the mail (I also have email and SMS seperate under general email options).

  • Why doesn't the new message indicator number match the number of new messages I have or don't have?

I am using a MacBook Pro and the new message indicator has stopped tracking correctly. For example, I have read all the messages in the inbox and the new message indicator still says that I have 5 new messages. Other times I have a new message and it is not registering with the indicator.
I have tried shutting Mail down and reopening it. This does reconcile the indicator but does not solve the problem. I have checked for and installed any updates. I am using Mail Version 7.3 (1878.6) and OS X Version 10.9.4
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes.  I emailed myself from my gmail account.
Because of the "read" reconciliation on the new BIS features, that will not be recognized as a new message, but as an already "read" message, and not trigger the new message indicator.

  • Turning off new message indicator AND the new message count

    Greetings,
Is it possible to turn off both the new message indicator (red asterix) and the new message count?
I would like no message indicators to appear on my blackberry home screen.
Thanks ever so much for your help.

I guess I didn't read close enough.  I don't think you can turn off the red asterisk.  It's going to show up on the icon no matter what.
As for the text messages, I'm not sure the setting for not showing message count indicator applies for text messges.  In fact, if you have OS 5, it most likely doesn't as sms is handled much differently.
You can turn off sounds and the red led in Profiles (or Sounds in OS 5)
You're basically wanting to disabl everything the phone was designed to do.

  • Anyone Else Not Get New Message Indicator in the Messages Section of the Menu Screen?

I have been on the phone with Technical Support numerous times and they don't seem to have an answer to this question, so I thought I would see if anyone else has experienced this.  And before anyone suggests this, technical support's answer has been to pull the plug on the box to reset it and this has not worked.
The issue is with the "Messages" portion of the "Menu" screen.  I know Verizon does not offer a light on your STB to let you know you have a message.  Instead, you are supposed to be able to go into the Menu screen and see the word "NEW" next to "Messages" along with the picture of an envelope to let you know you have a new message.
For whatever reason, I don't get either of these indicators.  I never thought I had a message until I was at a friend's house and they went into their Menu and they had "NEW" next to their Messages along with the envelope indicator.  I went home and saw that I had about five messages in my Messages box, some of which were very old.
While this is not a huge deal, it still bugs me that Verizon has no answer.  I thought my STB may have an issue, but other than this, they work fine.  (By the way, neither of my STB give me either indicator).
So I was just wondering if anyone else had this issue, and if so, how did you get it fixed?  Did Verizon have to come out and do something, did Technical Support need to do something on their end, or did you need to get new STB?  One time Technical Support tried to tell me that it may be an issue with Fios in my area, but that theory was shot down when I went to my friend's house.  I have never gotten either indicator, and I have had Fios for almost one year.
I would appreciate any information you have.  Thanks.

    Hi MiMeQu,
The indicator in the menu and the visual  indicator on the front of the stb should both alert you of messages.

It would be nice if the Verizon employees had the correct information when posting here.  The indicator light hsa never been operational since I got TV service 3 1/2 years ago (as Matcarl said).  The reason given by Verizon was "It confused too many users when the light came on and created excess calls to the FSC".
As for the envelope in the menu, mine used to work but also stopped working on my DVR (7216) about a month ago.  To confuse matters my 2500s (2 of them) still show the envelope when there is a message.

  • Hub New Message Indicator Bug

I get a new text or email and I read it.  I swipe back out to the hub and it still shows an unread message even though I just read it and I can see from the edge of the account page there are NO unread messages.
I mark a bunch of emails as read (say there are 10 unread emails), the unread message number in the hub shows there is still one unread message even though I just marked ALL of them read and there are no other new messages.
Same thing happens if I read a text or email directly from the home screen (the first screen that shows the time and the message indicators), when I open the hub it says there is an unread message even though I just read it.  And under this circumstance if I get another message in a different account that account indicator and the text account indicator will show unread messages in the hub even though they are all read.
In order to clear the number I have to open a different account and go back to the hub.  Only then does the one unread message indicator go away...
Of course if I turn the indicator off there are no issues because it doesn't show the numbers.
I happen to like the numbers...  No if only it actually worked.

I am also getting the email 'envelope' up showing I have 2 x new messages but I have no unread messages.  I have seen a previous thread and followed any advice on there but the envelope is still there.
    Any advice welcome !

  • Why can't you turn off the new message indicator on any of the blackberry devices?

i can't believe that i cannot turn off having my blackberry notifiy me when i get an email.  at the top of the homescreen i either get a "Message Count" or if I turn this off i get the little red asterik alert folder appearing, plus the mail icon gets a red asterik on it.  i don't want to see this and i know that many other users feel the same way.
has anyone figured out a way to turn this off?  if not, how can we let blackberry know they need to fix this in future models?  there are message boards all over the internet with this same complaint.
    a little more background:
    - the issue is on a saturday afternoon when i grab my phone to make a call, i don't want to see a little red asterik notifying me that i have a new message.  i also don't want to see a running count all the time.
    - i tried turning off the data plan part so new messages wouldn't reach me, but the problem with that is when i later turn the data plan back on, the new messages are not then sent.  they never each my phone.  seems the server tries sending them once and if the data plan is turned off they don't make it, but never make it.
i hope someone at blackberry reads this and they make this simple change in a future model.  i'll upgrade to it immediately when they do.  i love the device but hate being constantly reminded of new messages.

Hi dplindsey, and welcome to the foams!
It's also time for the 1am Eaddicts meeting to start
Here's the deal, Turn off all the notification, ring tones, led''s for emails.
Go to the main homescreen and hit the menu key twice select make a folder.
Go to your main message queue icon, highlight it and press menu, select MOVE.
Move the Icon in to folder.  TA DA!   It's GONE

  • New message indicator dissapeared from HUB

Btw, it works fine on Thunderbird, so it's definitely an Apple Mail bug.

  • New message indicator

When i receive a new email it goes into both the 'messages' folder and the specific email folder as it should do, however only the 'messages' folder has the 'new email' icon and the (nr) next to it. When i open the specific email folder the new email is there which is fine, its just there is no indication of it being in there until i look. This wasnt the case on my previous bb so i trust there is a simple solution. Hope you understand the problem... This is very frustrating and hopefully there is a simple answer, can anyone help?

  • Mail 3.6 doesn't show new message in IMAP folder

    Hello,
I am using Mail with an IMAP server.
On this IMAP server, mails are automatically sorted to different mailboxes (IMAP folder) via .procmail.rc directives.
When I receive an Email and when this email is dispatched in the correct mailbox, Mail3.6 doesn't display this new message.
Questions : How to set-up Mail3.6 to correctly display new incoming mail server sorted in IMAP folder ? or How to overcome this Mail bug ?
PS : This question was already asked a few months ago on Apple Bug Report, answer was that this bug will be corrected on the next release.... Seems not...
    Thank you by adance

    Hello,
I am having a very similar problem that just started happening recently when I started using gmail folders instead of my school's email (both IMAP).
I have all emails configured for IMAP and the messages arrive fine, but when mail applies my custom filters and the messages are moved to the individual folders, the new message indicator (on the file and on the dock icon) are not present. The only new messages that appear are those in the mail Inbox. When I then click on the individual folders (I have to click through them all individually) it recognizes the new, unread email and updates the indicators (both next to the custom folder and on the dock icon).
This is a frustrating issue because I do not have any indication that I have new mail unless I go and click on each folder individually.
The issue just started occurring when i switched to using my gmail account. The folders seem to be set up appropriately to move messages in Mail and also have them labeled on gmail ([GMAIL]/foldername), but Mail just doesn't seem to recognize the messages as new once they have been moved to the folders until I sync (either by clicking on the folder or by using the "synchronize all accounts" command).
Any suggestions? I found this same issue in the archived questions (http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7513842), but it was not resolved.
    Thanks,
    Daniel

  • Suddenly, I have lost the email toolbar for emails that I "reply" to.  The toolbar for new message is still there.  What happened and how do I get it back?

I have not updated operating system or anything, I just suddenly lost the tool bar on emails when I reply or forward an email.  This means I have no send or forward etc buttons.  I have to go into the pulldown menu for commands. When I create a new message, no problem.  It won't let me right click on the top of the email to try and add anything.  What's happening here? I'm using 10.5.8

Found the answer on another thread.

  • New Message Indicators for different mailbox accounts

Anyone out there know how to configure different mailbox accounts to utilize different new message indicators (one turned on, another turned off)?  I have two critical email accounts, and have differentiated them via the profile for alerts.  However, when I try to also utilize a new message indicator (Mailbox -> Option -> Gen'l Options) it becomes active for ALL my mailbox accounts, including the ALL messages folder (default "inbox").  This is pretty annoying since I always keep the critical mailboxes clean, but never look at the ALL messages box (I keep it hidden).
    Thoughts?

You read correctly. There is no way at present to designate specific ringers for email accounts. Its one generic sound.

  • Mail Icon shown 1 new message but I cant find it.

My Mail icon shows 1 new message but I have double checked every folder in Mail and cant find it. Could anyone help its really buggin me.

    Greetings,
There isn't a new message, but this indicates that your Mail index needs to be rebuilt. Select All the messages in that account (Command-A) and then choose Message>Mark as Read (if it doesn't give you that option, then choose Mark as Unread and then go back and choose Mark as Read). If you select the account in question, then go to Mailbox>Rebuild, Mail will rebuild the index for that account; then you shouldn't have any new messages indicated.
