New mid 09 macbook pro weak speaker problem

I just got a mid 09 macbook pro 15''.
and notice the full volume on the speaker is just about 60-70%
of the late 08 macbook pro when turn to full 100%.
anyone notice this?
not sure is this a defect or apple did something to the mid 09 model
maybe add an internal speaker limiter/compressor?

How would this affect the warranty? Obviously I'm not trying to insert a hardware compressor/limiter, just route the signal on the audio output bus through a plugin (or some piece of software) before it gets to the internal speakers, or any other output device for that matter. Would this really affect the warranty?

  • Mid 2010 MacBook Pro 15" battery Problem

    Hi
    I have a Mid 2010 MacBook Pro 15" 2,66GHz Intel Core i7, with 8GB of 1067MHz DDR3 Ram running OSX 10.9.4.
When my MacBook reaches about 30% charge, it shuts down.
I have had the battery replaced about 3 days ago, and thats when I started noticing it shutting down at 30% charge.
Is there anything i can do to fix this?

        Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

I'm updating to a new 2014 macbook pro.  am i better off using a migration assistant from one to another, or restoring from Time Machine (with ethernet to thunderbolt adapter)?  Or some other method?
    thanks,

So, you have a choice after backing up your current Mac:
Have both Macs on your network, run setup on your new Mac and afterwards manually copy files from the old to the new Mac.
Run setup on your new Mac and use the Setup Assistant to migrate from a Time Machine back up all your user accounts, data and settings.
Question on a similar line except I wanted to partition the drive that came on the new Mid 2014 MBPro (2.8 GHz, 1 TB SSD, 16 GB RAM).  Migrating from the old computer b/u seems pretty straight forward, but once the drive that come with the new MBPro is partitioned an install of OS X needs to be done.  Here's what I did, I installed the Mavericks I had purchased from the App Store when it came out.  Now, from reading here in the Communities, some have indicated the shipped Mavericks version is not the same as the App Store version.  Now that the shipped Mavericks is history (after the partitioning) should I try somehow to restore that from the Recovery HD/process?  Or ???
This isn't my first rodeo, so I just went full speed ahead and did the partitioning and copied the former MBPro (early 2011) disk created by Carbon Copy Cloner over to the new boot partition.  It was suggested that an Erase and Install OS X could be done, but I don't see how that would bring the shipped Mavericks version for this new MBPro, unless the Recovery HD suite of utilities would go and grab that from Apple via Internet; which would be fairly lengthy since it would be via Internet connection.
I'll back up a bit here for a second... I"m not experiencing any problems (kernel panics, etc.) but not sure if the system now is as it should be.  Hindsight being what it is I should have made a CCC copy of the shipped volume of Mavericks; if this is an issue.
The system seems to be running fine, and some of my "issues" (for lack of a better term) could be just the way the new Mid 2014 MBPro is handling things - like memory allocation (i.e. using close to the 16 GB most of the time) and kernel_task using 1 GB of memory - more at times).  Possibly if I wasn't a regular watcher of Activity Monitor I would just be plodding along, since the system seems to be working fine.  Occasionally some apps or their processes take a longer than I feel is what should be normal to do, hence looking at the Activity Monitor to see what is going on.
Sorry for the long ramble.  Trying to see if I really have a problem that would necessitate a reinstall of Mavericks via Recovery HD; which could take up some valuable computer work time (which I'm also using posting here <grin>).
Thanks in advance for any ideas, suggesting, etc.  Also, to the person who posted to my other question on this another thanks for those suggestions.  None of which I've done - yet.
Take care all - and thank you again for  all the great minds who make these Community Boards work.

  • Mid-2010 Macbook Pro 13" Sleep Problems

Recently, whenever my Macbook goes to sleep, it is unresponsive when I try to wake it up. I have to hold down the power button for a few seconds and force quit it with no indication that it is off, however, when I press the power button again, it turns on. But it doesn't turn on how it normally should. It does a double-take startup. The disk drive (or whatever it is that makes the sound at the startup) makes the sound and the screen pops up white, but after about a second, it goes out, almost as if it force quit itself, but after about another second, it turns on normally and since I put in a Samsung SSD about 3 months ago, it boots right up in a matter of seconds.
So far, this kind of stuff has been tolerable but probably not good for my computer.
But the worst case happened tonight when I put my Macbook into sleep mode. I was gone for about an hour and 20 minutes and when I got back to my computer and opened up the lid, it was pretty hot and the fans were probably running between 4000 and 5000 rpm. All this was happening when the computer was supposed to be in sleep mode and again, when I opened it up nothing appeared on the screen and it was unresponsive. This time when I force quit, I knew when it worked because I could here the fans turn off. I manually clicked Sleep this time, but I think this happened a few days ago too when I simply closed the lid to put it in sleep mode, however the computer wasn't running this hot.
I'm hoping it isn't the Logic Board and just maybe a software issue, but I have a strong feeling it isn't the software. I'm running Mavericks 10.9.5 so I'm hoping that an upgrade to Yosemite might fix it, but I doubt it.
I've already had to replace the battery, logic board, disk drive, trackpad, and I'm on my 3rd hard drive, and this computer is only 4 and a half years old. Thankfully, Apple Care covered most of the costs and basically none of the issues were due to my neglect, but it is out of warranty now. I would like to think I just got a bad computer right out of the box.

  • Macbook pro 13 Speaker problem

When I listen to music in Mono, it’s supposed to be that the speakers sound exactly the same from both channels. But when I move the balance of the speakers in System Preferences, the left speaker sounds very distorted and muffled and in the right speaker sounds good with a lot of bass. The guitars sound awful in the left channel . there is a problem with my Macbook? or is supposed to sound like that? i just bought it. its a 2012  model without retina display.
    Thank you!

Both speakers should work equally well.  I would exchange it for another one if you just bought it.

  • Brand new mid-2012 Macbook Pro w/ Mavericks running slowly?

    Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone had an idea of why a brand new Pro would be frustratingly slow in starting up apps and reacting in general. If it's relevant I imported everything on this thing from my old 2007 Macbook running Lion. Activity Monitor consistently shows nearly 4GB (of 4GB) memory used but I'm told this is normal for Mavericks. Memory pressure seems to be okay (I've only ever seen it take up about a third-to-a half and be green - not sure what else it might look like). Other stats (which tbh I don't understand) in the memory tab are virtual memory 6.59GB, app memory 2.09GB, file cache 230MB, wired memory 650MB, compressed 1.03GB. CPU load is consistently less than 10% for user & system combined.
Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks!

If it's an Apple refurb, the warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

  • -10810 Error on new Mid 2009 MacBook Pro

I posted this response regarding the -10810 error that I am getting in another thread (see below), but I thought I would post it here too since I'm not sure if this is hardware related. Is anyone else experiencing this?
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2017744
I get the -10810 error after about 5 or so minutes. No application will launch and i will need to log out and then back in. I tried the suggestion of resetting the launch services and that did not make a difference. I will run the disk utility tonight and see what happens.
I just got my mid 2009 17" MBP last week and ran the migration assistant on the initial boot to grab my files from my G4 Powerbook. I'm wondering if this may be the root cause? I did not have the Migration Assistant copy any applications from my G4, but I did have it do my documents and my network settings. Everything seemed to be fine for a few days and then all of a sudden I started getting the issue. I was just wondering if the PPC to Intel migration might have something to do with it.
A couple applications that I did install and run for the 1st time on the new MBP "about" the same time as I started noticing the issue is XMarks and Handbrake. I uninstalled XMarks and Handbrake last night and shut down but have not rebooted yet. I dont know if that could be the cause either. I have been using Handbrake for a couple years and never had any issues on my G4. I thought I would try and work my way backwards.
Thanks for any help or advice
    Craig

Just an update. I did a complete fresh re-install from the disks that came with my MBP. I wiped out everything just as it came from the factory. Copied all my files over manually and so far so good. No errors! I'm thinking it had to be something that was brought over from my Powerbook G4 when I used the Migration Assistant. I have seen many posts (now that I am looking) that say to not use the Migration Assistant when copying from an old OS to a new OS (eg., Tiger to Leopard) like I had done. I dont know if this is always the case, but it seems to be in mine.

  • Mini Displayport to DVI Adapter Problem on Mid-2009 Macbook Pro

I have a new mid-2009 Macbook Pro hooked up to a 20" Samsung 2033sw LCD with a native 1600x900 resolution using a mini Displayport to DVI adapter that I bought off of EBay. No matter what I've tried I can't get anything to display on the external Samsung LCD higher than 1024x768. I tried switching between GPU's and that made no difference. Any ideas.?

    Michael, thanks for the reply;
When you open System Preferences/Displays does a second preference panel open up OK on the Samsung ?
Yes, but I can't see it unless I select 'gather displays'. Then it appears on the MBP LCD, and showing the correct resolution - 1600x900.
Is there an Options Tab visible under which you can check 'Overscan' ?
None that I can find. Only display and color tabs.
Is the Refresh Rate set to 60.0 Hertz
Yes, that is what it shows in Refresh Rate.
I also pulled out an older LG LCD that is fairly generic, .e.g. it has DVI in at 1280x1024. Same problem on that LCD ... nothing higher than 1024x768, but this time at 1280x1024 I get major noise and screen distortion. The displayed image is jumping all over the place, but at least there is something displayed.

  • Mid-2012 macbook pro gets kernel panics when waking from sleep

    Hi all,
I got a new mid-2012 Macbook Pro running Lion (10.7.5) at the end of Oct which started kernel panicking pretty much from day one. The kernel panics only occur when the computer is put to sleep and reawaken after more than an hour or so has passed. I get a grey screen that eventually shows text like "Your computer was restarted because of a problem. Please wait a few seconds or press any key to continue" and then the OS boots up again. Bizarrely, this doesn't usually happen if the computer has only been asleep for a short time - i.e. 15 min or less.
Below is the kernel panic log, which seems to suggest there's an issue with the Nvidia GeForce GT 650M graphics card.
Anyone have any idea what the problem is? Advice is much appreciated.

  • MID 2013 MACBOOK PRO AVAILABILITY IN INDIA

The new Macbook Pro was released on 29/7/2014. But when i called up an authorised store, they had no idea about the new upgraded variants. So I decided to call the sales support and they told me that it may take a minimum of a month or even more !
Why the new Mid 2014 Macbook Pro is not available in INDIAN stores yet ?
Why is this happening ? Pretty strange !
I was just planning to buy a MBP today and just checked and saw the new upgrades ! The standard 15 retina model now is upgraded to 16 GB RAM ! It is obviously better to buy the 16 GB Ram model but I dont want to wait for a month ! Any help would be appreciated !
Also if anyone could tell me wether the new models will have the education/student discount available or not !
    Thank You

Thanks a lot for replying ! The 2013 model you're referring to costs around 2,00,000 with 16 Gigs of RAM ! To be honest RAM matters a lot to me because I need the MBP for music production . And as compared to the Late 2013 model, the mid 2014 model will cost me around 1,45,000 rs ! A lot of difference plus the RAM upgrade ! I also don't care about GPU ! It's just the RAM ! Are you sure about the 1 month time limit ? Can it increase ? And what about the discount policy ? I'm getting a discount of rs 20'000 in the late 2013 MBP with 8 Gigs of RAM ! The support centre people didn't help me with the discount policy on the upcoming models

  • My mid-2009 MacBook Pro's hard drive is near death. I want to install a new SSD and work from scratch. Please help.

Recently, my mid-2009 MacBook Pro has been crashing when I close the screen ("it's having a problem recognizing when the screen is closed/open and deciding what to do, error overload etc.").  It wasn't an SMC issue so I took it to an Apple Store, ran some tests, and decided my hard-drive is failing.
Not wanting to spend an insane amount of money on some "official apple hard-drive," I want to install a new 256GB SSD instead.  Hoping to squeeze as much life out of this computer as possible (in January I upgraded from 4 GB RAM to 8 GB), I would like to try and start from scratch, i.e. back-up important folders, music, photos etc. and only take that to the new hard-drive.  If someone could explain all the steps I need to take to safely complete this task (or point me in the direction of a guide) I'd appreciate it.
    Potentially Important info:
         Model:                mid-2009 13'' MacBook Pro
Processor:          2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
         Memory:             4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
         Software:            OS X 10.8.4
    Some additional questions I have...
Should I be concerned with making a fully bootable back-up (not sure what that is called) as well?  If so, what program should I use to create it?
How much more life should I try and push out of this computer?  I'm an engineering student and really only use it for web-surfing, music, and
word-processing.  The batter was replaced in March, the RAM was upgraded to 8 GB in January.  When the battery was swapped, the trackpad went           nuts so that's new too.  Only other issues are a slightly loose audio jack and the left side of the screen being slightly wobbly (hinge is worn I'm told).

Well there is no "official Apple HD / SSD" in any regard, no worries there.
If as you say youre only using same for surfing and word processing, why the need for a SSD? You would not notice any speed diff. in use on either of those,....in boot times yes, but in word or surfing, not.
You can push it likely a few more years, for mere surfing and word processing,...many many years.   Up TO the point that any major fixes become unrealistic relative to getting a new(ER) machine.
Concerned with a boot clone?  yes and no.  Its an ideal immediate recovery, since you cannot boot from Time Machine, ....in case of HD crash, recovery takes seconds from boot, or 20 mins or so from removing old and installing a clone. All the prosumers and pros have at least one updated clone of their prime machines.
You can do a "fresh install" if you choose, however if your current drive is FINE, why not merely clone it and save yourself some headache?...., but that is your prerogative of course.    Ideally 2 drives, one to backup your data (you need that regardless of installing a new drive for sake of a backup/archive,...ideally 2 actually, not merely one).
You could clone internal to NEW SSD/HD , ...then offload unnecessary files to an external to free up space and clutter and run off the clone, and this would only take a couple hours......the clone itself takes approx. 40+ mins.
    CLONE Apps :
Superduper does not clone the recovery partition, but that is NOT necessary if you keep the original HD as a “backup clone”. Most don’t bother with the recovery partition in a clone, however that is your prerogative.

  • I am having problems rebooting my mid 2009 macbook pro (grey screen other issues), need help!

I am having problems rebooting, I have experienced the same problem as others with the grey screen but my case is a little different, It started with my mid 2009 macbook pro acting a little slower than normal, the screen would freeze, mouse wouldnt move and i'd be forced to "force reboot" this went on for a couple of days until i was tinkering with the wifi connection and it froze again. I had to reboot and this time i noticed that it took a long time to get to the login screen. i put in my password and it went into infinite load (i also tried the guest account and other accounts with same result). i tried rebooting again and the same thing would happen. after several reboots, the screen just stayed grey, sometimes with the apple logo and gear sometimes without it. Since its a 2009, (and for the most part, still works like a champ) i decided test the ram, i took one stick of ram out at a time to see if i could notice anything wrong with them. when i stuck just one in, the mac was still having the same problem rebooting. i pulled that ram and and stuck in the other and i noticed that this time the apple logo never appeard and a big crossed out circle appeared. figuring that the ram must be the problem, i ordered new ram and installed it. i noticed that when i rebooted for the first time with the new ram it was rather quick and took me straight to the login screen and i was able to log in with no problem. at this point i thought the problem was solved, but i noticed the macbook still acting funny. at first, none of my files appeared on my desktop or in the finder window. after about 20 minutes, everything magically popped up. i also noticed long pauses/freezes with the colored pin wheel spinnig. i closed the laptop and opened it again and the screen just stayed black. i tried rebooting again, and again i got the grey screen with no signs of being able to log in... i waited about 20 minutes and tried to reboot again and again i was able to log in, however the macbook is still acting slow and will freeze with no signs of unfreezing without a reboot.
my macbook is 5 years old and has plenty of miles on it, so i understand if the thing needs to be replaced alltogether but does anyone know what could be the issue? could the bad ram have corrupted the hard drive in anyway? would re-installing the OS fix it?? and if so, how would i do that if i downloaded mavericks from the app store? are there any other solutions to this problem?
all my files and what not are backed up on an external HD so theres nothing on it that i'd miss desperately if i had to whipe the hard drive but id really like to get her working again without any whiping of the HD. if anyone can help me out, it'd be greatly appreciated

It is very difficult to offer troubleshooting suggestions when the "os version" you are using is unknown as each os has their own troubleshooting solutions.
How large is your hard drive and how much hard drive space do you have left?

  • Samsung hard drive problems with mid 2009 Macbook Pro

Arghh, this is driving me mad.
I'd like to know if anyone has installed a Samsung HM641JI SATA II hard drive into a mid 2009 Macbook Pro (mine is a 2.8Ghz) and, if so, how they managed it. The drive is 640GB. These are the steps I've taken:
    1. Swap out the stock drive for the Samsung
    2. Boot from a USB drive which contains a mirror of my system
    3. When the system identified the new disk, I formatted it with 2 partitions (GUID table, HFS journaled)
    4. Reboot
    5. System is very slow. Boots from USB but can't use keyboard to login
    6. Switch off and try again
    7. Remove Samsung drive
    8. Reboot from USB (works perfectly)
    9. Downgrade firmware to 1.6
    10. Replace samsung drive and try again
    11. System boots from USB
    12. Verify that drive is running at 1.5Ghz
    13. Disk utility and system profiler both crash
    14. Disk unmounts by itself and other random weirdness
    15. Remove Samsung drive
I've read endless reports about the firmware in this model of Macbook Pro and its issues with SATA II but struggling to find anything current and specific. Two questions:
    a. Is there anythign I can do to get this drive to play nicely?
    b. What drive should I get if the answer to a is no?
As a bit of background.. my system began playing up last week with lots of spinning beach balls resulting in forced switch offs. Booting from a mirror on a USB drive works perfectly so I concluded that the drive was on its way out. A drive test utility confirmed this. I'm now wondering if it really was the drive or the cable or the logic board.
    Any advice appreciated.
    Cheers
    //A

I'm coming around to the idea that this might be a problem with the SATA cable rather than the drive.
I currently have the stock drive (Hitachi) back in the macbook. It mounted for a while and was then ejected when I tried writing data to it. System profiler reports that "There was an error while scanning for Serial-ATA devices."
I was able to mount the same drive in a USB enclosure this afternoon without any problems. Right now, I seem to be having issues with both the Samsung drive and the Hitachi drive - I wasn't suspicious of thr latter because I thought it was failing.
I found one or two accounts of other people having similar problems that were resolved with a new sata cable.
How does a cable fail? Could this be my problem?
    Cheers

  • Problems with WD7500BPVT on mid 2009 macbook pro

My mid 2009 macbook pro got dented just enough to break the hard drive so I'm trying to replace it. I've got a Western Digital 750GB Blue Scorpio WD7500BPVT but I can't get Snow Leopard to install. The partition process goes fine but when I start the install it goes really slowly until hours later it says that the system cannot be installed. The same thing happens when I try to restore from Time Machine, though thankfully that process fails fter about 30 minutes. The disc seems to be working fine, I installed Linux on it in a Thinkpad with no problems as a test. I also pulled the hdd out of my girlfriends macbook, put it into my MBP and that booted and ran fine. I've seen some talk about rolling back efi to an older version, could that be my problem? Should I just give up on this hdd and find something else? Here is most of the installer log from one attempt to restore from time machine in case that helps. Thanks

I'm quite sure my MBP is alright aside from the hard drive as I've spent the better part of the last two days swapping drives around between the computers I have available and testing every scenario I can think of. The damaged hard drive doesn't work in any computer, my MBP, my girlfriends MB, or connected to a linux pc through a usb, so it's toast. My girlfriend's MB hard drive runs just fine in my MBP, I wiped and installed it in my MBP to test the dvd drive and I played some videos and ran some apps and everything works normally so I don't think anything else is damaged. The WD7500BPVT installs and runs fine in my girlfriends MB, the only problem arises when I try to put the WD7500BPVT into my MBP, bit to install OS X or after I've installed OS X onto it with my girlfriends computer. Thanks anyway.
