New mini-frozen computer

I just got a mini; I'm not very good on computers. But, I installed itunes on my 1-yr old laptop (has Windows XP) and transferred about 350 songs into itunes. Then, I connected the IPOD into the USB2 card outlet and my computer froze up while trying to get the IPOD recognized. I've tried it repeatedly and my computer always freezes up. The mini flashes the "do not disconnect" sign. What am I doing wrong? Please help!

hi i actually just got my mini yesterday and i think i'm having the same problem gloria had. the moment i connect my mini to the computer, the mini flashes the "do not disconnect" sign. i tried to restore/format it on my computer, but every time i tried, it would freeze my computer up (the mouse wouldn't even move). after restoring it on a friend's computer (it now says updated on the ipod manager thing) i opened up iTunes, connected my mini, and then it froze up my computer again. i'm at a complete loss as to what to do, please help....

Trying to migrate from Mac-mini Tiger to Mac-mini Lion and Migration Assistant cannot find my Firewire, 400 to 800, "T" disk although it shows up in the new Mac's computer folder. It seems that Mac-mini Tiger is as it should be and the firewire cable is OK.  Something about the Migration Assistant is being missed, but I have no idea what it is.

Addendum: I read on a post here (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=420169) about removing some kext files in order to trick OSX into thinking that there were no FireWire ports.
I followed the instructions and removed from /System/Library/Extensions/ the following files:
    IOFireWireSerialBusProtocolTransport.kext
    IOFireWireAVC.kext
    IOFireWireFamily.kext
    IOFireWireIP.kext
    IOFireWireSBP2.kext
I restarted and BAM...Snow Leopard booted crazy fast and the mouse and keyboard worked instantly.
The System Profiler says "No FireWire ports were found."
So this tells me that the FW port is probably the culprit and is messing up the installation.
So how do I hack the Mountain Lion installer and tell it to ignore the FW port, which is obviously quite dead? Or is there something I can do to the Base system that is similar?

  • Can I download itunes to my new mini ipad with out it automatically syncing with my windows computer. I only want it on the ipad

Can I download iTunes to my new mini ipad without it automatically syncing over to my Window vista computer. I only want tunes on my ipad I want to keep my computer separate

iTunes cannot be downloaded to an iPad.  iTunes on an iPad is already preinatalled so there's no need to download it, and on the iPad its the store access. The icon looks like this:
Why do you want to download iTunes to your iPad?

  • I have an existing mini mac and 4 tb external drive. My iTunes library exists on the external drive under /itunes... I have purchased a new mini mac and I want to leave the library where it is but move to new mini mac.. what do i need to do ?

I have an existing mini mac and 4 tb external drive.
My iTunes library exists on the external drive under /itunes...
I have purchased a new mini mac and I want to leave the library where it is on the external drive but move to new mini mac and have it show as it did on the old mini mac..
what do i need to do ?
I have found multitude of articles about moving itunes to external drive or other similar things but I don't want to move itunes from the external drive, just change mini mac machines and have everything in itunes the same..
    Thanks

I had already tried that one and got this...
below is screen shot of what is on the new mac mini
and what is on the external drive now connected to the new mac mini..
There are no media files on the mac mini just the library files and on external just media files..
Do I need to copy anything over from the old mac mini ? xml files ? .. the itunes folder on old mini is about 840mb in size which looks to have artwork ect ? .. I am fairly computer literate, but this one has me stumped.. ?
    thanks for help

  • I have a new mini mac and i want to use my existing external hard drive but it needs to be reformated how do i do this without loosing all my old photos?

i have a new mini mac and i want to use my existing external hard drive but it needs to be reformated how do i do this without loosing all my old photos?

    Formatting will erase the drive.
You need to copy the photo's to either your old computer, the Mac Mini or to a new external drive and then decide what to do with your existing external drive.
For example: You could use one External drive for Photo's and one external drive for Time Machine to backup both your Mac Mini and the Photo drive.

  • HT1535 I just started my new mini IPad, and when I clicked the network, my connect to iTunes went off, now I can't move on or get that connect to iTunes back on the screen so that I keep going

IT is so frustrating, because I cannot go further without being connected to iTunes..it's a brand new mini IPad, and I gave the network and then the iTunes thing to press to connect disappeared...HELP!

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

  • New mini vs dual G5 2.7?

I am running Logic 8 on a dual G5 2.7. Are there any advantages of that computer over the new Mac Mini? I have been thinking of upgrading to a new Mac Pro but am thinking that might be overkill. I typically run Logic, Reason, Peak, Photoshop and Dreamweaver.

The new mini should be just fine . I am using an iMac 2007 model and the new mini kills it in specs and I run lots of plugin synths and fx . I would however put more ram in it than the standard 2 gigs 4-8 or more will increase your audio track count .
    2 other things to tak in to consideration ;
An external firewire drive is always best to record to ( on any computer )
A firewire audio interface will give you better results than a USB based one .
Now be for the flamers attack me on USB vs. firewire spec ....
USB based HD are technically faster than firewire , but less band with and when you want to record many tracks you need that band with . the extra speed wont help .
USB based sound cards add burden and to CPU . Firewire dose not .
    Firewire 800 is compatible with FW400 just need a 800 cable with a 400 end .
The Mac Mini FW Bus can handle an audio card and HD or two daisy chained just fine - though I would place the audio card 1st in the chain to avoid interruptions when the external HD is turned on/off .
Happy upgrade to you . Go make some music !

Extra info : I have not upgraded to 10.6.4 yet and I assume a New mini will have this you should research it's compatibility with Logic . I know 10.6.3 had some issues with it .

  • Brand New Mini - Can't Migrate from Old

OK, Santa brought a brand new mini to replace my trusty 2007 mini. I fired it up and tried to use migration assistant to migrate from the 2007. First I tried it via network. It got to the screen where it showed the old mini as the source but then just sat there with the buzz saw spinning and 'looking for other computers'. I don't understand why it was still looking...it had found the one that it needed. So I plug my Time Machine disk into it. It gets to about the same point...shows the disk and the buzz saw and the 'looking for other computers' message. Why is it looking for other computer? I rebooted and it finally recognized the Time Machine disk and I selected what I wanted to migrate and it went on its merry way while we had dinner. I come back a couple hours later and it says 'copying system info...about a minute left' or something close. I left it there for about an hour and finally shut it down & restarted. It then went to the gray screen with the apple and the buzz saw and hung there for about an hour. I tried a few more times and then booted into the Utilities screen and am in the process of re-installng Lion. I'm not happy. Any idea what the problems were/are? I hope I can get it working after all this. Did I mention that I'm not happy?

  • Direct comparison old and new mini into tv

Hi all. I notice a slew of threads berating the display quality of the mini and I want to put my chime in.
I have a 1.6 core duo mini and I replaced it Saturday with a new one.
I have a 32 in LCD in the living room, the old one was hooked up with a dvi to hdmi lead and the new one is the same except there is the mini dvi to dvi adaptor in the way.
The old mini displayed fine I noticed no gradient issues etc. With the new mini any gradients cause large chunks of banding as if there were only 256 colours and I have to say I am not very impressed.
I suppose what I am asking is, is there anything I can do, but I rather fancy I know the answer.
The LCD is being run in its native res and the two mins were/are doing identical duties. But the long and short is the old mini displayed much better on my TV.

My new Mac Mini works perfect in 1080p 1920x1080 mode on my 42" and 47" 1080p HDTVs using a DVI-HDMI cable with the included mini dvi-dvi adapter.

  • Ipod and new mini mac

I just got a new Mini Mac (intel) and want to upload my iPod to my new computer, the old one died:-( what's a easy (if there is) way? of course with i tunes.
    thanks

Do you mean as in copying all of your music off of your iPod and onto the Mini? You'll need to buy special software to do that I think. Haven't had any experience myself (yet), but that's my understanding of it. Either that or you could try turning on disc mode and drag and drop your files that way, but again, haven't personally tried it (yet).

  • Transferring albums from older iPod to newer Mini Mac

How can I transfer some albums from my wife’s old iPod 20 GB model A1059 to our newer Mini Mac. Most of the older albums were transfered to the new computer, but somehow I must have deleted many of the albums, which are still on the old iPod.  How do I transfer those albums?  I don’t want to mess up what I currently have in my iTunes.  Any help or direction would be appreciated.

    Hhi there Vince1942,
It sounds like you have media on your iPod that you want to transfer to your Mac mini. You can use this article to transfer your iTunes Store purchases over:
Re-download or transfer your iTunes Store purchases from an iPhone, iPad or iPod to a computer
Keep this in mind for media from other sources:
This feature works only for content bought from the iTunes Store. Any items that you imported from audio CDs or received from other sources won't copy from your device to the iTunes library. However, all podcasts from your device's Podcasts app and copies of all PDFs and books from your device's iBooks app will transfer to the computer. Learn how to transfer media to your iTunes library.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
