New Mini Power plug...

I'm thinking about buying a Mini and planning to move it around a bit. Is there an inexpensive way to duplicate the AC plug? That seems to be an advantage of the new Mini is that you wouldn't have to lug the power adaptor around. It plug looks a little specialized, is it an Apple only thing?
The dual monitor capability, SD card reader, and being able to take it apart without the putty knife are other selling factors pushing me toward new instead of used older ones. Why are there no referbs?

Surely it's a completely standard, worldwide, "Figure of 8" mains lead?:
...so you can put leads lying all around the house, very cheaply!
Perhaps someone who's actually got one can confirm?

  • TS3274 New IPAD Power plug gets hot

I have a one week old new IPAD.
The power plug that comes with the IPAD gets very hot upon charging (the bulk portion that gets into wall socket). I had IPAD2 and never faced this issue?
Should I take it to an Apple Shop for replacement?

Mine gets warmer than the power adapter on my original iPad, but .... It does not get "Very Hot". I would take it back to Apple and show them, and ask for a replacement, it should not get that hot.

  • New Mini - Firewire plug is stuck and won't come out

    Hi,
This is a virtually new Mac Mini; A firewire plug from my 20" Cinema display is stuck in the firewire port and won't come out. (I'm trying to disassemble this mini to move to another location.)
I'm trying very hard not to pull too hard because I don't want to damage the firewire port. But I don't know what to do - it's just stuck and won't come out.
    Any ideas? Many Thanks,
    Frank B.

Well, I finally got it out after fiddling with it, and walking away several times. I had to make sure I didn't damage it, so I approached it very gingerly.
How did I get it out? It's amazing what actually worked. What worked was grasping ONLY the firewire chord about 1 to 2 inches away from the plug and pulling Only on the chord straight out.
Doing it this way, it popped out with very little resistance. Strangely, the Apple Cinema Display firewire plug almost seems to click when you plug it in.
So I immediately tested a generic firewire plug (non-Apple related) and it plugged in and pulled out with no problems or resistance whatsoever.
"This completes my test of the Apple Cinema Display Firewire plug." (a joke there)

  • I am having difficulty charging my mini pad - have tried through computer and power plug

any help appreciated with charging difficulties with mini ipad - have tried using computer and also power plug - any help appreciated

Could be the charger, cable or iPad. Plug the USB cable into your computer. It may say "Not Charging", however, it is charging slowly and will verify that the cable is good.
Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Will my ipod mini power cord fit my new nano

will my ipod mini power cord fit my new nano

There is no direct to power plug included in the nano pkg., only a usb connector. My mini power is firewire to a wall plug and a regular pinned adapter to the iPod. The connector that came with my iPod mini looks like the same pinning, but it is deeper(?) that the nano plug. I have tried to use it but no go. I thought someone else may have a fix, or an idea as to why it is not working.

  • Just got a new IPAD3, straight out of the box, but I cant charge it, I have tried with the power plug and cable out of the box but no joy, i have tried resetting the iPad but still no joy, have tried different plug sockets, different plugs/cables, help

Just got a new IPAD3, straight out of the box, but I cant charge it, I have tried with the power plug and cable out of the box that came with it but no joy, i have tried resetting the iPad but still no joy, have tried different mains plug sockets around the house with no joy, I have tried different USB mains plugs but again no joy, I tried using my new iPad cable into the USB port of my MacBook Pro laptop but still no joy, then, I tried using my old iPod classic cable into my MacBook Pro and that worked, so I have a way of charging my new iPad3 but its not practical as i have to take my MacBook Pro everywhere if I want to charge it which kind of defeats the object of having an iPad, has anybody experienced anything similar and how was it fixed? can anybody help me please...

    Grumpy Gator,
Please note it did say at the store's discretion, but people have actually been able to return it to the on-line store. (I only saw a couple who tried.)
And given the outcry, I would think Apple might have other Apple stores join in. Just in case, though, if you can, you might bring it in today.
If it's an ARS, my guess is they can stick to their 14 day return. Apple cannot force them to do it. SO if it's not bought directly from Apple, and it's past the 14 day deal, I'd bring it in to the store today if you have one. When I gave people the cnet.com site, I gave it so people could read it and know only Apple had made the decision for Apple. And I suggested to some that an Apple reseller would probably stick with their own return policy.
Because Arnie had just bought his, he should be able to return it to Apple or an ARS because an ARS has to have some kind of full refund or at least return for credit within 7 or 14 days of purchase.
    Hope this helps.

    Dear Lenovo,
I'm BEGGING you to please update for the beeping sound for Power Plug. It's really annoying that such a simple thing can't be removed. Second, my laptop is usually around at 37 Celcius  to 47 Celcius. After I installed  the new BIOS, it seems that it made my laptop even hotter? It's now 57 Celcius!! I run the same ammount of softwares & programs, and those doesnt even use a lot of my CPU. Please check out your BIOS firmware.
    Viet Tran

    JustV,
The request to mute the power beep has been submitted to development previously.   I don't have an ETA on when this will be implemented, but will share that when available.
Let's talk about your observations of temperature.  How are you measuring temperature?   Through software, or somewhere physically on the system case?   Are you running on battery or AC & Battery?  What level of charge is the battery?
As far as I know, no changes were made in this BIOS that would affect system temps.
    What applications are you running?
Have you checked to ensure your fan is running normally?  Is warm air exiting the vents on the system?
Has anyone else observed a change in operation after the BIOS update?

  • HELP: Can't connect to the internet with new mini

    Hi
I've just unpacked the new mini I bought today. I use a LAN that I set up myself. I use a Linksys Router 11Mb/s. All computers atached to it work fine, including an iBook G4 with Airport Extreme.
The Mini does recognize my network via Airport, and the Airport card MAC adress is already in the authorize list, but still does not connect.
Worse, I plug an Etherner Cable to the plug that works with a PC, but still no internet. I set up a manual IP adress instead of DHCP. Still no internet. I reinstalled the entire OS X, from start, still no internet.
Any ideas, anyone ? Thanks !
pd: This is frustrating, I just brought it from the store today

Try turning your router/modem off. Now connect the ethernet cable to the mini and the router and restart the router/modem. If it works, update the system.
When connecting airport, make sure you turn off the router/modem, and then take out the ethernet cable and then restart the router/modem and then power up your mac mini and set up airport.
If the above does not work, RESET the modem/router to its default settings. Once trained, use a ethernet connected Mac to set it up (the Mini perhaps).
I am suggesting this because I had to turn off my router to connect one of my Macs before I could surf the net. i also find resetting the router can sometimes iron out connection issues.

  • Mac Mini Power Problems

Ok. I have a mac mini 2009 and it was doing fine up until a week ago. Now it will randomly shut it self off. I have tried reseting my sms. I have also done a complete wipe and reinstalled the OS and I get the same problem. I got it checked at the local Apple store, they found nothing wrong. I brought it back home and plugged it up and it works for about 10 minutes before shutting off. I took the computer out of the bedroom where i have it always plugged in and moved it to another part of the house and now it works like new. My question is can my mac have caused a shortage in my wall socket or is there not enough power coming in. Any Ideas... Please cause i would love to move it back into my bedroom.

I seriously doubt your mini caused a fault in your electrical system. Its more likely, especially based on your testing, that the circuit is the issue. Did you check to see if some of your power sockets are run through one of the light switches in the room? Did you or someone else recently move where the mini was plugged in to another socket in the room?

  • New Mini Core Duo DOA

    New Mini Core Duo.
Power light comes on. No boot chime, no video. Will not accept CD. Apparent DOA? Any suggestions.
    1.66 Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4)

Colin, Macs do not have a BIOS. Older (PPC) Macs use Open Firmware, and Intel Macs use the Extended Firmware Interface.
The AppleCare guy must not be aware of the differences between PowerPC and Intel-based Macs. Macintels do not have a Power Management Unit (PMU), but have an SMC (System Management Controller) instead (I coulnd't tell the difference, but apparentyl there is one). On these models, you have to make sure not to hold the power button while plugging back the power cord (Apple KB article 303446). And like on other Macs, they advise to unplug all other cables, not just the power cord.

  • A/c power plug broke off inside machine--how to repair

my daughter's ibook g4 power supply plug broke off, it is inside the socket in the machine--what is the practical way to get this fixed, please?
    thanks--

Hi there and welcome to Apple Discussions!
Your question is not unique, as unfortunately some users have experienced
some mishaps with their DC line-in plug (and socket) and so if you can
get the broken piece out of the computer's DC-in socket, that would be a
good thing. Sometimes a visit to a full service Apple Store (official) where
a Genius bar exists, and you've called ahead for a specified time, a skilled
person there may be able to figure out how to remove the broken end.
Of course, a replacement power supply is generally needed, to restore
    the illuminated original plug with an identical part is almost impossible;
though I have read about people getting a generic plug and managing
to get the DC polarity correct (so as to not damage the computer.) But
the best fix would be to get a new replacement Apple power adapter.
Getting the broken "pin" section of the AC Adapter's DC plug out of
the computer is the larger concern; since the socket itself may be
damaged if this isn't done properly. Or it may have been damaged
by the action that caused the plug to be broken in the first place.
There are several posts in these Discussion forums, the iBook G4
    and G3 (white) and PowerBook G4 models use a similar power setup;
so finding replies already posted is not hard.
In fact, I replied to one such post and so searched back and found
the URL to a question and replies. Note mine is near the end of this:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3126597
And the quoted text in that post is from one of the links in the post.
(It is not mine; to clarify what appears to be an edited four letter word.)
The blue letters in the post are links to outside web sites; I am not
sure of the total validity of their content and they only serve to show
someone has tried some ideas and they may have had adequate
results from them; and that's about as far as I'd go. They're worth a look.
[Another set of posts (by user name) regarding this question
and out-of-warranty repair options, etc with the DC-in board
and power plug damage, among others, would be those by
an experienced iBook user in these boards, Rhonda.]
Best of luck to you and happy computing!

  • Helix Gen 2 power plug adapter?

Received the new Helix (Gen 2) Ultrabook, and was (not) shocked to find yet another new power plug.  There are lots of adapters out there for the older style recangular plug (Carbon X1 older that is), from Amazon, allowing us to repurpose our ancient round-plug power supplies, but I have not yet found anyone doing this for the new 7.5mm x 2.9mm plug on the Helix Gen 2.
Has anyone else found a solution for this?

The kit comes with 6 adaptors, if you get it from Apple, you will get the whole kit.  I think I paid $29.
Some of the Apple adapters have a bump or other feature that makes some of then not fit some bricks.  You'll have to examine your's closely to see what is not fitting.
My Austrailian adaptor from the worldwide kit fits my MBA power adaptor (2012 MBA).
Try a generic gender bender.  If you are in the US, go to a local Auto Club office.  Otherwise, you will have to look around.  I use a Franzus adaptor, sorry there is no model number on it.  Mine is similar to this one
    http://www.amazon.com/Franzus-TS237AP-Foreign-Voltage-Adapter/dp/B002E1LOG2/ref= sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1349029175&sr=8-7&keywords=franzus
It is still not cheap at $15 plus $3 shipping but the ones on the racks in airports and travel stores are not a lot cheaper.
