New Mini, YouTube Slow/Clipping/Buffering

I just hooked up my mini yesterday and wanted to check out videos on YouTube and every video would constantly take forever to load and once started playing it would stop every 10 second to buffer even though it showed (via the red line) it had buffered beyond what had played. Also if I clicked for full screen it would start buffering over (I think that might be normal?) and then start this whole annoyance over again. I never have this problem on my 6 year old HP desktop. We have decent comcast cable highspeed, I have Roku player with amazing quality and never get this type of behavior. Will someone please advise and suggest what I might be able to do? Thanks

I have been battling slow wifi performance on my mini for around 6 months now, bought as a media centre it is now just an expensive paper weight! I took it back to Apple, they tested it, no issue on their wifi network.Spent hours trying to confirm throughput, configuration etc, nothing!
I had given up until my girlfriend got a brand new MacBook Air & she is having the same issues on the wifi network, cannot watch video, not just youtube but off the NAS. No other devices in the house have issues, just the 2 OS 10.6.
Not sure what to try next.

  • Youtube app not buffering correctly

Is any one else having problems with the Youtube app not buffering properly.
mine will only buffer up to 45-55 seconds then it just stops.

I generally have the same issue with my iPad when using the YouTube app. The odd thing is that I can watch a Netflix video and not experience the same problem. Netflix locks up on me occasionally, and throws me back to the Home screen, but I have all but given up on YouTube.
In case this applies to others with similar issues, I seem to have "slow" wireless with the iPad at home, but have not experienced any connection drops--thankfully. I have a newly refurbished Airport Extreme on RoadRunner. I haven't taken the iPad out any field trips yet as I was terrified I would be the idiot to drop it on the floor at Panera. • HT1535 I just started my new mini IPad, and when I clicked the network, my connect to iTunes went off, now I can't move on or get that connect to iTunes back on the screen so that I keep going

IT is so frustrating, because I cannot go further without being connected to iTunes..it's a brand new mini IPad, and I gave the network and then the iTunes thing to press to connect disappeared...HELP!

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

  • Using old iMac Screen on new Mini

My trusted old iMac G4 700 (dome base) is just too slow these days, but I still love the design. The screen is also very adjustable and can extend to a comfortable working height.
Is there any way in which I can couple this with a new mini, ie. just use my old screen and some how connect to the mini, bypassing the old system base ?
    Darren

Your best bet for quick and correct answer to this question is to post in either the iMac G4 forum, or the Mac Mini forum. This is the forum for the iMac Core Duo.

  • My iBook G4 vs. New Mini ?

I am thinking of getting the 2.0Ghz or 2.6Ghz Mini with 4Gig RAM. I have an iBook with a 1.33GHz PowerPC chip and 1.25Gig RAM. I do email, Powerpoint and Word for Mac, Internet, iPhoto, I may get into video (iMovie) just a bit.
Question is will I notice an increase in performance (speed, no hesitating, etc) going to Mini? If not, why am I thinking of getting one? (HELP!) And, is there any reason to upgrade to the 2.6Ghz chip?
    Thanks! Much appreciated.

beaglemutt, I recently moved from a G4 mIni to a used 1.66GHz Core Duo mIni. And the speed difference between these two relatively close models was impressive. While (as noted) memory is good for more speed and Rosetta apps will drag everything down, I am not seeing that you listed anything in your common apps that will not see a big boos by getting a new one.
Example: Exporting from EyeTV to my iPhone on the G4 took several hours for even a half hour show. Now? I can actually just turn on export and every show is prepped, fairly quickly, without slowing the system down so much I can't watch another show or do other tasks.
If it is this apparent in a first gen intel mIni, I can only imagine the improvements going from a G4 to the new mIni.

  • Internet sooo sloooow on my new Mini... :-(

    Hi.
After a long sojourn in Windows land I finally came back to Mac. I got a new Mini (1.66) and maxed out the RAM at 2 GB.
Generally it seems great. But the internet is soooo slooooow. I can run my ancient Win2k machine right beside it -- same network, same DSL line -- and the Mini (using Safari out of the box) takes on average 3-5 times as long to load anything.
I did a hardware diagnostic and it came up fine. I even completely erased the hard drive, reinstalled the OS, etc, no help.
It's really frustrating. My friends are mocking me openly for having dropped $$$ for a slower computer.
Any suggestions? Some funky setting Safari needs to run quick?
Any help would be very appreciated.

At last! Someone else has the very same problem. Mine is even more basic as where we live we don't have anything other than dial-up.
My new super-loaded (and so super sexy) Mac Mini arrived and was set up. Connection through that little USB modem was instant but the connection speed was a disaster. As a comparison I connected to the same line, same isp, same browser with my G4 tower . . . . and that connected in the same way as always . . . good speed and totally acceptable for dial-up. For fun I then connected (same line etc) with my friends old G3 PowerBook . . . . again it ran like a rabbit.
Back to the Mac Mini and that connected once again like a geriatric turtle!
The ISP said it was the phone line and totally ignored me when I pointed out that within the same fifteen minutes of my "test" that the results were so dramatically different. Pushing for a better answer I was then told that I shuld increase the RAM allocation to the USB ports / modem. Now how in heavens name could I do this? In the old OS9 days we all likely allocated RAM to applications but since OSX I don't think I have ever seen this pop up. Also with a gig of RAM in the Mini I would have thought that the dear little machine would have enough juice to do what it needs to do without my help!
By the way, we also have an old Compaq and that one was faster too. Now that hurts!!
I have tried various scrips . . . . no joy. The Apple tech I spoke with seemed to be "miles away" and showed very little interest and NO ONE seems to see the significance of the same line, same time, same browser and getting three good results and one lousy one . . . . on the Mini.
I am totally lost and can't think of anything else to do. Has anyone any suggestions??

  • Move data from old iMac to new Mini? HELP

I have a dear old iMac 233mhz (rev. a)., running OS 8.6. I need to move some Appleworks files and Netscape Communicator 4.7 emails and address cards to my new Mini Core Solo.
OS 8.6 doesn't talk (easily) via either airport (the iMac is cabled to a snow base station) or direct by ethernet. There may be work arounds, but I find them too complex for my feeble brain and patience.
I have a CD burner, but the old iMac apparently can't burn discs without 3rd party software. Toast 4.x is suggested; my old copy of Toast 5 complains that it needs at least OS 9.x to install.
ebay and yahoo auctions come up dry when looking for Toast 4. Can anyone help, or suggest another method? Emailing the appleworks files does work, but is too slow. (I bought the current AW for the Mini). Thanks.

I'm happy to report total success with my file transfer. My Dad's old iMac ran 8.6 and had no Firewire BTW.
I tried plugging my iPod into the old iMac's USB port but the mac reported it did not have the proper software installed to interact with that device.
I then followed the excellent instructions given in this link (provided by Grant Bennet-Alder elsewehere in this thread):
    http://homepage.mac.com/car1son/os9xnet_nfilesharing.html
It worked like a charm! I needed a crossover cable.
    Thanks everyone!

  • Slow clips when importing HD

    Hi,
when I import HD to iMovie, my 1,33 GHz PB isn't able to import it faster then 1/4 of realtime. However, I've read on the forum that it those clips are supposed to be normal again after restarting iMovie. On my mac, this isn't the case. The "slow" clips remain slow, and are unusable. Does anyone have a solution for this? More RAM? Currently it's 1,25 GB, maybe it's not enough?

ok, an update here. by selecting "standard quality" in the playback-options, I got the clips to play in realtime, without the annoying stopping every 4 seconds. But solving this problem only made two new ones.
    1. Seems like the sounds can't keep up with whats happening. Sometimes it is too fast, and sometimes it is too slow. Any ideas on this one?
    2. If I export the movie, it stops all the time? I exported it both in full quality, and the CD-ROM option. It was almost impossible to watch. Is there a better way to export movies? Apparently I can't burn it, since the movie is HD.
    Appreciate the help.

  • Reconnecting Slowed Clips.

I noticed a lot of people are having problems with multicam edits falling off sync when reconnected. I do projects with both slowed clips and multicam edits. My problem is as soon as the media goes offline and reconnected, the slowed clips fall off sync. No filters no cross dissolves.
This problem NEVER happened with 5.1.4. It started happening when we upgrading everything to 6.0.1. ITS STILL happening, and were all upgraded to 6.0.2! Even brand new project files with brand new footage. Am I doing something wrong here?? Or is it FCP 6???

Possible workaround: Can you remove the speed change before reconnecting and then reapplying after reconnecting? You can even copy and paste this attributes between clips.

  • New Mini Startup Time

Just got a new Mini w/i7.  Overall performance is great, but I'm concerned about the start up time; takes about 90 seconds from power on to log in screen.  This is my first experience with Mountain Lion; my older Macbook will only run Snow Leopard but takes only about 30-40 seconds to startup.
    Suggestions, please.
    Thanks in advance,
    JD

My new Mini goes from chime to desktop in about 10 seconds. But I have Apple's 1tb Fusion Drive in mine, and the entire startup sequence basically runs off the SSD portion of the Fusion Drive, which is very, very fast.
If you don't have an SSD or a Fusion Drive, then the internal drive you got from Apple is a quite slow 5400rpm. That probably accounts for the difference in startup times you're experiencing. And that's why I got the Fusion Drive in mine; I wasn't going to tolerate a 5400rpm hard drive in a desktop computer. (Although the HDD portion of the Fusion Drive is only 5400rpm, the SSD portion makes that mostly a non-issue.)

How do I back up my iphone5 to my ICloud account, whqen iI have forgot my restrictions password. My restrictions pass code has my icloud a account greyed out? Can i backup to a wd external harddrive, or try to backup to a new mini-mac, I just purchased yesterday? This is my first iMac and IPhone5, so i am kinda out on my own, and can use some pointers!! My phone is full of pictures, and will not download anything, until i store my pictures somewhere!!

If you don't remember your restrictions passcode, you will have to force the phone into recovery mode and restore it using iTunes. Do NOT restore your backup. The restrictions passcode is part of the backup.
Everything on the phone will be lost.
You can extract the photos from the camera roll the same way you would from any other digital camera. Having a restriction passcode set should not prevent that. do that before you put the phone in recovery mode and restore it.

i opened an icloud account for a new mini ipad to give them their own email, so they wouldnt be on my account, but when I came back to my account I could no longer get in my account with my password, so my account was gone....and now all the accounts are over lapped and dont work right, I want to get back to my original apple ID and everything I have bought over the last 6 years!!

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.
