New Mondeo and E61i - BT address book

Hi folks !
I have the new Mondeo with the BT carkit advanced (BT and no cradle), as well as a E61i.
While the device pairs up ok and the voice part seems OK, I am having a big problem with the address book. Namely, only the first 350 contacts (more or less) appear in the phonebook, instead of around 550 contacts.
I have tried with the vanilla phone, as well as with the application from the 810 car kit (the "download contacts" application), but with the same results.
On top of that, it appears that the caller ID is not passed to the car kit.
Anybody has any ideas/can help here ?

All Bluetooth functions have been removed from the Address Book application by Apple in Mac OS X 10.5
You'll have to ask them why!
As a workaround, drag the contacts you want on the phone from *Address Book* onto the *Bluetooth File Exchange* application icon, then choose your device from the list and send.

Hi William,
You need to add the phone entries to the end of the list of phones. Something like this:
tell thisPerson to make new phone at the end of phones with properties {value:"(415) 888-7777", label:"home"}
You could also put the telephone numbers into an array in case you don't want to add all the types to all of your entries. Like this:
set theLastName to "Doe"
set theFirstName to "John"
--etc.
set thePhones to {{"(415) 888-7777", "home"}, {"(415) 555-1212", "work"}, {"(415) 999-9999", "mobile"}}
tell application "Address Book"
set thisPerson to (make new person with properties {first name:theFirstName, last name:theLastName, organization:"Test Company"})
repeat with myPhone in thePhones

I tried importing email addresses from gmail and now my address book is locked up and will not work. Do I need to delete my address book software and reinstall? If so, what is the proper way to do this? New to Macbook software. I have tried several things and nothing has helped. I have backed up photos, movies, etc. My addresses are on my iphone so I can sync them later right if I loose my data?

You can probably resolve this by removing some Address Book preference files rather than deleting your Address Book application.
First turn off Synchronize in Address Book Preferences if you can.
Next restart Address Book and try to export everything to your Desktop.
I have had a play and found my Address Book preference files. In the following ~/Library is the Library within your Home folder. Any numerals may differ on your Mac. Quit Address Book before doing anything with these.
1 - Display details and things set in Address Book Preferences
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.plist
2 - Has no data - not sure what this does
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.abd.plist
3 - Has last sync date - may have more if I used sync
~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.AddressBook.sync.000393735c06.plist
4 - My contact details
/Library/Preferences/AddressBookMe.plist
5 - Individual addresses and groups stored as separate files within:
~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/Metadata
6 - All of these addresses are are also in this single database:
~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/AddressBook-v22.abcddb
If you wish to remove all addresses drag both 5 & 6 to your Desktop.
If you wish to reset preferences drag 1 your Desktop.
Removing 3 may resolve sync issues but I am unable to test this.
If you wish to reset everything drag all except 4 to your desktop.

You can rename them but it is not recommended. What purpose is served by renaming the default books? You can create new books and name them anything you like.

They don't have the music on their computer so they cannot transfer the iTunes folder, from the computer to their iPod and then to the new computer. And if they try to enable disk use on the iPod it will erase all the music that is on it. The method you cited is moving the files in a data format using the iPod as a flash drive. It doesn't work if they are in music format. That is why I suggested Yamipod.

Can't drag and drop from Address Book to Mail?

Hi,
I have always used Address Book to store my email contact information in SL. When I wanted to send an email, I would drag and drop from Address Book to the "To:" field in Mail and it would add the contact information to Mail. I upgraded to Lion, and now when I try this, the address icon moves like it should, the little green circle with the + in it appears when I hover over the field, but when I release it does not add the address to Mail. The drag and drop does not work at all, but it looks like it should. I have searched all around but have not found any information about this. Does anyone know what's up with this? How can I fix it? Thanks in advance.

Are you dragging from the actual AddressBook application, or the Address icon you can add to the NewMail and Reply toolbars in Mail? (It ought to be there by default, but isn't).

Sounds like you "upgraded" to Pages 5.
Apple has removed over 90 features from Pages 5.

Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.
Archive/trash Pages 5, after Exporting your files to Pages '09, and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

THANK YOU! I have been using companion link up until you posted this. This makes it so much easier to keep my business contacts on my phone. Much faster too! New iPhone won't synch Address Book groups with PowerPC G5

Last night I uploaded vCards into Address Book on G5, then organized them using Smart Groups. iPhone won't upload the groupings--so I'm left with 1,500 addresses in a flat file. That translates into too much flicking ;~}

This is certainly a major problem with the productivity of the iPhone. The Address book on the iPhone is lacking in some very important features. THere is absolutely no reason that the search ability that is required by the smart folders to work is not a part of the iPhone address book.
We have now had three updates to the phone and still the address book is not searchable. How can that be. When doing SMS you can start typing and it narrows down the address book options. Why can't the Address Book do the same thing?

After sharing computer with my partner, he backed up his phone and now our address books have been merged. Is there an easy way to separate them? The cloud automatically adds new contacts to both our phones etc.

A while back, My partner asked if he could back up his phone on my macbook. Ever since our address books have been merged. there are so many duplicates it's madness as if we both have a friend by the same name perhaps with no surname it's easy to call the wrong one.
Is there a way to identify the root of each contact so we can separate them.

hi i had the same problem today when i updated my itunes to latest version. however, i have just found my songs in the 'itunes media' folder. this was accessed through 'my music' then keep clicking through until you find itunes media and all my library songs were in there and i then just added these files to my library and all were restored however, i have lost all my playlists but at least my 700 songs are back. very dissapointed with apple that they have let this happen with their latest update, the previous version was miles better than this one . hope you find them. stevo

New Field Type's in Address book

Is there a limitation in field creation for Address book that precludes new field types. For example I would like to have a boolean field called "New Contact" true/False. When I export the vCard file I can process to pull the new contacts that must be processed, either with a script or a sort. Can be used to select only the new entries from exporting a smaller file too (5000 person's records).
Would I be correct in assuming (from my trials) that importing a vCard file will only add the new contacts and overwrite any changes in the existing ones. Or will I get duplicates from differing records with same name.
Hope it makes sense. To explain I am trying to find a method for syncing contact data between mulitple users, most on Macs but one (the boss!) on PC. Address book has no autosynce between remote users only iTouch/IPhone I gather.

You can't add fields. Address Book keeps somewhere an "updated" date for each contact, but you can't see it in an exported vCard nor with Applescript.
Importing a vCard where the name matches an existing one pops a prompt, which is not what you want in any sort of automated multi-used system.
Have you considered setting up an LDAP server on one of the machines and having the other Address Books pull their data from it? I don't know any operational details, but think your situation is what it is intended for.
