New Monitor - Menu fonts are blurry with balck background

I just installed a new monitor (Compaq 20" LCD). When in Firefox, the menu fonts in the upper right hand corner of the screen have a black background and the the lettering appears fuzzy. When I float my cursor over them they highlight in blue (as that should) and are nice and clear. This is only in Firefox - the whole screen is crystal clear when using any other program.

Thanks michael. You are right. The fonts in the image file I posted looks good compared to my original monitor screen for some wierd reason. I went through all the steps that you mentioned. BUT I think I have found the solution now. This is what I did: I downloaded 'Tinker Tool' > font smoothing> changed font smoothing style to 'Strong'. This seems to have sorted the problem out. I have posted both images for comparison below.

    Hi el_giclee,
    Important to note from the beginning is that when you create your Photoshop document make sure you chose 300 Pixels/inch as your resolution.
    I'm interested in seeing your Save Adobe PDF dialog box after you choose to save the PDF.
    Could you post a screenshot of this dialog box with the Compression menu selected on the left side?
    It's a good idea to select High Quality Print or Press Quality in the Adobe PDF Preset menu at the top of this box. It will automatically select the best default settings for a printed piece.

  • In Firefox v33, new tab page thumbnails are blurry and over-sized

    Since updating to Firefox v33, my new tab page thumbnails are blurry. They are also over-sized compared to what they were before the update.

    Firefox automatically adjusts the number of columns that fit on the about:newtab page if you adjust the width of the Firefox window or zoom the page in or out and no longer resizes the thumbnails.
    The current release doesn't resize the thumbnails, but instead reduces the number of tiles to fit the current screen width, so you may not see the number of columns that is specified via the browser.newtabpage.columns pref.
    Zoom out the about:newtab page to see more tiles.
    Make sure that you have only one tab with the about:newtab page open.

    Hi to all,
    I hope someone can help me. My phone crashed after updating it to IOS 8.3. I can't use it cause its stucked on the start up menu, the apple logo with black background. Even when I restart my phone, it is still stuck on the start up menu, the black background with apple logo in the middle.

    Slone,
    I finally decided to turn this annoyance into an opportunity.  After a lot of experimenting I found that my iPad was just fine under 7.1 if I simply restored it as new.  I have a lot of time on my hands and I had 1424 apps on my iPad!  This is why every attempt to restore took so long.
    I decided to restore as new, spend a day restoring the apps I really used.  Doing so gave me a quick iPad with only bout a quarter of the storage used.
    Granted it was a pain in the arse, but I wrote it off as in the old days when you had to do this with windows 95 just to keep a stable system.
    I DO have some data in a few files of the now unused backup but a quick google search finds a couple Mac programs out there that will allow you go extract audio recordings, app data files etc. from the backup.  I'll do that someday if I even miss the files I've probably forgotten that are there.
    Anyway, there was nothing wrong with my hardware.  I think there were just some troublesome setup items that 7.1 didn't like.  Once set up as new, the ipad was fine.
    Good luck!

  • Opening a legacy file in CC2014, the fonts in the file (which are loaded and accessible with Suitcase Fusion 6), won't display. I get the [Jensen text] font name indicating a missing font file. YET, when I make a new file, the fonts are available. Any ide

    Okay, that was a long title. Sorry about that.
    Longer version now. The font Janson Text is an old Type 1 Postscript font. If I make a new document in InDesign CC2014, this font is completely available to me. HOWEVER, if I open a legacy file that uses this same font, it shows up with the usual pink highlighting.
    I know the font is available to InDesign, because I made a new test document and set type with it.
    If I try using the Type > Find Font.. option to replace the 'missing' typefaces, InDesign won't let me, not recognizing the font that I just used in the new test document.
    I just tried exporting the defective file as an IDML file, then opening the IDML file. The font is now working properly.
    This is a real problem, as the file I'm trying to open is a book that we need to reprint. I now have to go through it page by page to see if any linebreaks have changed.
    WHAT CAUSES THIS, please?

    There is one way its getting fixed. Once I update my Adobe Illustrator CC to Adobe Illustrator CC 2014 it is further allowing me to go into the system folder and allocate the font to the file so that it can replace it. My only concern now is that our MAC partners who will receive these files back from us have Adobe CS6. We will down save it to CS6 but I hope they won't experience any font issues because of us using CC 2014? Any light you can shed on this?

  • Fonts are Blurry in Windows 8.1...

    There is an issue with DPI settings in windows 8 and the fonts look horrible. Microsoft says to go into the compatibility settings for the app and disable high DPI settings, but it doesn't work well. The fonts become readable again and the edges of objects are better, but the menu items are huge and so is all the text on the menu bars and stuff. This is an unacceptable problem. Does anyone have a solution? I'm really getting frustrated, but no one seems to know how to fix this.

    You can set the <b>layout.css.devPixelsPerPx</b> pref on the <b>about:config</b> page to 1.0
    You can adjust layout.css.devPixelsPerPx starting from 1.0 in 0.1 or 0.05 steps (1.1 or 0.9) to make icons show correctly.
    You can open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location/address bar.
    You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

  • How many titler fonts are included with CS3?

    Since installing Prem CS3 I can only use about 16 fonts in the titler with about the same that are listed but not usable. (will just print circles or such like). In Prem Pro 2.0 I had loads but not any more. I have just installed on a fresh machine under XP and all just the same.
    I'm sure there should be more but certain how to progress this one???
    This was a new install on fresh H/D with only Adobe and Matrox software installed apart from the normal Microsoft mouse/keyboard and virus software.
    Regards to all

    There are probably some fonts included with CS3, but fonts are managed by your OS. Many programs will install additional ones, and there are thousands available for purchase, plus some free ones. The installation of fonts is handled through Control Panel>Fonts. If you had more, reinstalled the OS, and have fewer now, it is because the OS comes with but a few. Most of the fonts that you remember were probably for other software, like wordprocessors, etc.
    Before you did your reinstall, did you do a backup of your system? You should be able to find these other fonts and reinstall them on your system. I keep all my TT fonts in one folder and all of my PS fonts in another with necessary sub-folders, and then use either they system or a font manager to install the ones that I need. Last time I looked, I had about 6000, but only a handful are installed on the system at boot.
    I'd check the latter discs of the set for any Adobe fonts, that might be included. In some previous additions of Adobe programs, they were in Goodies>Fonts, but a lot has changed. Also, IIRC, all included Adobe fonts are now OpenType, so you may have to poke around a bit to find them. As I do not have CS3, I can't give you the exact location. Also, I use the old, discontinued ATM Pro 3.5 to manage my OT and PS fonts, loading in just the extras that I need for a job, and it has not been available for some years. Other font management utilities can do pretty much the same.

  • New messages in Inbox are opening with old messages attached

    I recently switched from an Ibook to a MacBook Air.  Some new messages in Mail inbox are opening with old (2-5yrs) messages attached.  For example, an unopened email from Virgin Airlines opens with a work email from 2011.  Anyone know why this is happening and/or how to fix this?
    Thanks

  • Letters of some fonts are placed with incorrect distance

    Hello.
    I'm trying quite hard to configure my fonts, but installing ms fonts always breaks the websites look.
    What is strange is that some fonts are looking brilliant for me, but some (at some conditions) are really eye-breakable.
    Here is an example of arial with russian letters at different sizes:
    10px
    11px (this is the main issue)
    12px
    13px
    So, the distance is going to change quite insane and i don't know what to do.
    And that is not only related to russian arial, or russian ms, or vodka, etc. The problem is more common, because it is also quite observable with inconsolata-g (english):
    screenshot - this is shot of firefox@archlinux wiki part. "font-size:  12.7px", firefox said. Other sizes look sane.
    And all this stuff is only firefox related. Other applications (leafpad, writer) draw arial, well, sane, at least. That may be a bit upexpectable, but ok, usable=)
    Im using firefox on cinnamon on archlinux, with infinality-ultimate default config (from infinality repos).
    Edit: oh no. That is not firefox-only related. I just forgot that font sizes are measured in points, not in pixels, in font-choosers.
    So this bug is presented in leafpad, too.

    The is not really a problem with hinting but with stem alignment and fitting and the pixel manipulation they are responsible for. With pre 2.5.0 freetype2, I experienced constant problems when trying to 'clean' the fonts: I never managed to achieve a sharp picture that would be readable at all sizes and didn't produce painful inconsistencies between even small size ranges. Only after changing the strategy, the rendering became mostly acceptable and further fine tuning didn't involve creation of multiple additional rules for the same family for different use scenarios.
    In this particular case, many font families treat Cyrillic and Latin scripts in the same manner, which means they apply the same letter positioning patterns to incompatible language systems. The problem could be easily solved if we could treat various language specific glyphs differently, i.e. apply
    <match target="font">
    <test name="family">
    <string>Arial</string>
    </test>
    <test name="pixelsize" compare="less">
    <double>13</double>
    </test>
    <edit name="hintstyle" mode="assign">
    <const>hintslight</const>
    </edit>
    <edit name="autohint" mode="assign">
    <bool>false</bool>
    </edit>
    </match>
    to the Latin script and
    <match target="font">
    <test name="family">
    <string>Arial</string>
    </test>
    <test name="pixelsize" compare="less">
    <double>13</double>
    </test>
    <edit name="hintstyle" mode="assign">
    <const>hintslight</const>
    </edit>
    <edit name="autohint" mode="assign">
    <bool>true</bool>
    </edit>
    </match>
    to the Cyrillic one. Unfortunately, using the <charset>0022</charset> property has never worked for me, leaving the glitches exactly where they were…
    What you can do:
    Choose between global settings that favour Cyrillic script over the Latin one (see above). The solution is based on the "either … or" choice which isn't exactly what you may want when both Latin and non-Latin languages have the same priority for you.
    Use a dedicated sans-serif font for Cyrillic based languages. This should be a preferred solution if you choose a proper font family (Arimo or Liberastika for instance). The substitution is only done when a particular language is detected, and for anything else the default sans family will be used. You should add
    <match>
    <test name="lang" compare="contains">
    <string>ru</string>
    </test>
    <test name="family">
    <string>sans-serif</string>
    </test>
    <edit name="family" mode="prepend_first" binding="strong">
    <string>Arimo</string>
    </edit>
    </match>
    to /etc/fonts/conf.avail.infinality/93-final-lang-spec.conf and additionaly, if you choose Liberastika,
    <match target="font">
    <test name="family">
    <string>Liberastika</string>
    </test>
    <test name="pixelsize" compare="less">
    <double>13</double>
    </test>
    <test name="weight" compare="more_eq">
    <const>regular</const>
    </test>
    <edit name="autohint" mode="assign">
    <bool>true</bool>
    </edit>
    <edit name="hintstyle" mode="assign">
    <const>hintslight</const>
    </edit>
    </match>
    to /etc/fonts/conf.avail.infinality/92-selective-rendering.conf.
    In either case, the previously appended
    <match target="font">
    <test name="pixelsize" compare="less">
    <double>11</double>
    </test>
    <edit name="hintstyle" mode="assign">
    <const>hintslight</const>
    </edit>
    <edit name="autohint" mode="assign">
    <bool>true</bool>
    </edit>
    </match>
    should be removed.
    Additional fonts are available in a dedicated repository:

    Simply add the above to your pacman.conf, run 'pacman -Syyu' and install whatever you like.

  • When I open a new tab, the address area populates with an unwanted, unused address, it doesn't go there, I don't want populated automatically, how to fix?

    When ever I open a new tab in Firefox, this address populates the address bar: chrome://quick_start/content/index.html. Now, I don't have anything against it, but I can't seem to get rid of it. I have been to my settings and add ons and that doesn't work. Tried to see if I could find it somewhere in my internet settings on my computer control panel. I just had somebody delete some serious virus and adware issues with my computer, and I'm sure they put this in there. How do I get it to stop? If I call the place who fixed it, they'll probably charge me for fixing it when it should be an easy fix.
    The page does NOT LOAD, it just populates the address bar, and if I hit enter, then it loads...help please.
    Thank you so much.

    jscher2000,
    SUCCESS!!! Thank you so much, it is so helpful to have someone who KNOWS what they are doing to give me advice. I have to admit, I had never even realized you could do that in the address bar to get to certain areas of your browser settings. Thank you so much and I am keeping a copy of your text so that I can check it out and roam around in there...I am learning HTTP, C++ and CSS right now, so I am really excited about learning this new trick. I don't know what else I can do with it, but it's definitely a keeper! Thanks again. Namaste.

  • Fonts are replaced with Adobe Sans in PDF

    Receive PDF files from a client every month, 3 of the fonts in the file (Fortis Helvetica Bold, Fortis Helvetica Light Bold, and Fortis Helvetica Light) are not embedded. Fonts have been supplied and are installed in C:\WINDOWS\Fonts and C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Resource\Font folders.
    This has been working fine for over a year, all fonts load up in acobat, but for some reason  now, the font "Fortis Helvetica Bold" is not loading up in Acrobat and is being replaced with Adobe Sans.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    It may also be that they have changed to a different version of the font. Just because it has the same name as one on your system does not mean they are compatible. In reality, your customer should embed all fonts. Have them change to a press or print job settings file and that should resolve the problem by embedding the fonts.

  • My PDFs using the new Acrobat Pro DC are blurry and hard to read.

    The Acrobat Pro DC shows my PDFs in a strange way and they are very blurry even if I zoom to 100%.  It's like it's very pixelated or something like that.  Is there a setting I change or anything like that?

    I can't help with the size but you can keep them from disappearing by checking the option in System Preferences > General > Show Scroll bars:  Always.
