New motherboard/chipset compatibility with Arch

I just read about the nVidia Ion (Intel Atom 330/nVidia 9300 on one motherboard).  I'm wondering if anyone can comment on its Arch compatibility.  Have a look at the review at this URL.

I've been looking to build a low power home server / media centre and these look perfect...
The only thing I don't like about these particular boards is that they only have 2 SATA ports and 1 32-bit PCI slot.
It'd be nice to have either 4 SATA slots or at least a 64-bit PCI slot.
Pity about what Intel's doing to the price: http://www.reuters.com/article/technolo … OK20090518
You'd of thought they'd of learned
EDIT: looks like it has 3 SATA ports

  • MSI GX660R with intel motherboard and compatibility with Samsung 840 EVO SSD

    Hi
Im am new to this forum, so I apologize in advance if this post is in the wrong section.
I am considering to replace the hard drive in my MSI GX660R with a Samsung 840 EVO 250 gb ssd, since it has the best benchmark ratings and are very afordable. My laptop has an Intel motherboard with an i7 core processor.
My question in relation to the upgrade is, whether the laptop is compatible with that excact ssd. I plan to run it in AHCI mode, since I have bad expirience with loss of data under RAID. If i chose to run the extra HDD as a secondary drive, it will therefore still be under AHCI.
Can anyone refer me to some sort of compatibility list, or tell me if the above mentioned drive is compatible? I havent been able to find out myself, and MSI is farily difficult to get in contact with.
    Any help is appreciated.

Yes, your early 2013 Retina model uses 6.0 Gbps SATA but it's not a standard mSATA connection. You could upgrade using Transcend's JetFlash -> http://www.transcend-info.com/apple/jetdrive/ - to space up to 960GB, however.

  • New MacBook Pro compatibility with 2Wire routers

Just saw another member posted a topic regarding about the new MBP's kernel panic error with specific routers.
I have a 2Wire 1000SW series and wanting to know if the newer generations (2.33 or 2.4GHz models) will be compatible while connecting to it via WIFI.
Currently I am still on a PB, and often time there's signal problem with the 1000SW, like for example it will not able to connect to internet after system startup or wake up even though the indicator shows full bar. All my other PC notebooks connected to the same router do not have this problem.
If anyone currently have the newer generations (2.33 or 2.4) and with a 2Wire router (especially the 1000 series). Do you see any kernel panic problem?
    Thanks

I find the creative suite to be painfully slow on my MBP (17" C2D 2.33Ghz, 2GB RAM). Of course it does depend how heavy you are using it. But basically I cannot use photoshop or AE under mac OSX, it drives me nuts. FOr light projects I just switch to parallels, they usually work smoother running under parallels with only 1GB RAM allocated to windows. ANd for serious stuff I switch to bootcamp so they get the full 2GB... cant wait for CS3!

  • New Symbian OS compatibility with s60v3 existing p...

    Hello everyone!
Coupple of minutes ago I red about new Symbian Foundation OS.
It was mentioned that new OS will be compatible with existing Symbian phones.
Does someone knows it will be possible to use our nowadays phones, for instance E90, E75, N96 with new OS? Can we upgrade it with the new OS?
    Thanks in advance!
    Best regards.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It is highly unlikely that S60v3FP1 and FP2 phones will get the new OS.
Various rumours suggest that newer S60v5 phones may get the new OS, but no exact details are known.
It more likely that the only models that will get the new OS are those that have yet to be announced.
All you can do is wait until more details are released to the public from nokia and symbian and hope that the news is good.

Sorry no. Physically the port is the same and the mSATA card would plug in but it will not be seen by the BIOS or by Windows.

any other things i should be mindful of while doing this mb upgrade?
the Drive should be Compatible as i see no reason it wouldn't! if you have installed a OS before you should just need to make sure you have the drivers that are needed before you start and it should be plain sailing!

  • Help! New to Mac - compatability with DVI and JVC HDTV

Hope someone can help. I'm new to mac and have just bought a mac mini and a JVC LT32DS HDTV to use as a media centre. I've scanned through the hundreds of postings on the DVI problem with the mac and would like an idiots guide (literally!)as how to set the mini to work with the JVC TV.
Following the advice I've got the two working witha VGA connection but once I use the DVI/HDMI (profigold)cable the screen is not stable and keeps flashing in and out view. I've tried various resolution settings but get no stability. I've read about Switch Res X but don't really know if this is the right way to go.

I went to "Mediamarkt" and tried two Philips HDTVs
    1) 26PF5320
    2) 26PF9320
TV 1) had no problem accepting the DVI signal from the mini at all the native resolutions I tried (no extra software). TV 2) -- originally my favoured one -- had a barely noticeable overscan on the menubar.
So I bought the 26PF5320: a bit cheaper but also higher native resolution.
So it pays to compare even similar models. Retailers will understand the situation. However, it's important to go on a slow day -- not on Saturday -- and maybe hurry up before Christmas. Understandably they don't want to spend too much time on demonstrations when the store is full of potential customers.
The young man from the store was very impressed with the mini. Less impressed with Quicktime and that you have to pay to get a full-screen video. But that's another story.
I was able to carry the TV and the mini (the latter in a backpack) from the store to the tram and then from the tram stop to home. Just two year ago this would have been science-fiction.
I will try to collect more data on HDTV/mini matches and mismatches and maybe put it in an ASCII table for a start.

  • New mighty Mouse compatibility with MAC OS X (10.3.9)

I would like to know if the new mighty mouse would work with the MAC OS X 10.3.9 version. On the specs it seems that it requires a 10.4 version ???

The box says 10.4.6 or later. The instruction manual says "to use your mouse and take full advantage of its features, you need: [...] 10.4.6 or later."
The instruction manual also says: "If your Mac is running an earlier version of Mac OS X, you won't be able to install the software from the disc and you may not be able to use all of the features…"
The manual states that users of OSX 10.3.9–10.4.2 can "assign primary and secondary buttons, and activate Exposé. Display Dashboard only in [Tiger]"
So, there you go, from the horse's mouth. It'll work fine, but not as full-featured as if you were running the latest OS.

  • How do I go back to my last version of firefox, the new version isnt compatable with my add ons

my add on tabs are not showing up

To downgrade to Firefox 4 first uninstall Firefox 5 beta, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.
You can then install the latest version of Firefox 4 available from http://www.mozilla.com/ - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.

  • Start-up stumbles with new motherboard, 10.5.5

The motherboard of my MacBook Pro recently died. It came back with a new motherboard and loaded with 10.5.5. Since then, the machine has balked on start-up. Sometimes, I get the tones, then a gray screen, then a freeze. On other occasions, it tries to start, gives up, goes black, and tries it again. It happens over and over. The machine never gets beyond a the apple screen. Eventually, I have to drop the battery to make the cycling stop. And then, there are those times when I get the black "curtain" dropping and a message in several languages that I have to restart. No kidding. I have managed to get it started on several occasions by blowing the P-RAM and cursing a lot. Once It is going, I use Onyx to try and keep it going.
Below is the message I got after one of those forced restarts:

    Welcome to the Apple boards:
Without question I would return the computer to Apple for re-repair.
There could be another bad component, a bad connection or cable. You should not spend any time diagnosing what is most likely a hardware problem that you cannot easily fix anyway and doing so might void the warranty.
Panics are usually caused by bad RAM.
You might unplug and replug your RAM module(s) - the socket may be dirty - but even there be very careful. Beyond the RAM, I don't think there is much for you do to.

  • New motherboard; now I can't open Pages w/out buying it

Hopefully, there's a simple answer for this prob. I recently had to take my iMac in for a new motherboard. Now, with the new motherboard installed, I can't open Pages, even though I could before I had the repair made. (It was paid for when I ordered the iMac several years ago.)
I have no idea where/what my serial number/registration might be. I had received it back in 2006.
What do I do now to access the software I paid for previously?
As always, thanks in advance for any help on this.

Uh, yea. I realize I'm working w/ '06 software, yet the issue is the same regardless of when it was purchased or what forum I'm asking about it in: Purchased software worked. New motherboard installed. Now software doesn't work. What to do?
Sorry to upset your ordered view of the world.

  • Are they compatable with a QuickSilver...

Is the new Airport Extreme compatable with my Poweer PC G4 QuickSilver 733 MHz Mac?

The Power Mac G4 Quicksilver is compatible with the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn), but it is only compatible with the 802.11b AirPort card so you will not be able to take full advantage of the AEBSn's "g" or "n" speeds.

  • Stable Gf4 Ti4800 se became unstable on new motherboard

My Gf4 Ti4800 se ran perfectly on my QDI kt333a motherboard, but now that I've upgraded to an asus a7n8x-8 motherboard it has colour corruption even in the bios.  Letters are still present, but large blocks of text will have their colours incorrect etc.  In Windows the corruption is much smaller, but still present.  It is instead the size of a few pixels here and there.  The colours can be corrected by highlighting the text, image, etc with the mouse then removing the highlight.
This is with the newest drivers and motherboard bios.  The new motherboard works perfectly with a Radeon 9800.  The old motherboard only ran the card at agp4x, where as the new one had 8x capability...as the card advertised it was capable of.
    I have a Barton 2500+, not oc'd, and 1gb of ddr333 ram.  Windows XP sp1.  all newest drivers/bios, & fresh install.

    Piezo,
The card should run at 8x, but for testing purposes lets try:
First uninstall the Video Drivers and the Mobo Drivers, then install just the nVidia 3.13 Drivers. They already have the ForceWare Drivers in then for the GeForce4 Ti card.
If that does not work, set the AGP to 4x and disable sidebanding in the BIOS.
Let us know what that does.
    Take Care,
    Richard
