New MotherBoard No POST

Hello all
Here is the deal, I just mounted my new motherboard, when I turn it on the  LEDS show 1 - Orange, 2- RED, 3, RED, 4 Orange which is not shown in the manual nor on MSI's basic troubelshooting guide.  Now I assumed I was reading the lights wrong(maybe i am color blind) and thought it might mean they were supposed to show all orange.
Now I have un-plugged all devices, except 1 stick of Ram, Video card and of course cpu + HSF.  Same error.
Next I re-mounted the cpu - yet still having the same issue. Both ATX and regular power cable are plugged in.  Now here is something odd I just noticed, one of my case fans(it is plugged into the MB still) powers up and spins, yet my video card fan doesn't move.  I even tried removing the video card to see if this was the problem.
So any suggestions as to what to try next?

I am running the rig in my signature and had the MB go out on me.  After some diagnostics I concluded that something having to do with the 12V CPU power feed had burned out (MOSFETs?).  This happened three days after I received the board, and before overclocking it.
I added some MOSFET heatsinks, and some mini-heatsinks wherever I found a hot chip.  That did the trick.  Those MOSFET chips were upwards of 75C without the heatsinks.
I got similar lights in the D-bracket when this happened.  Is the 12V CPU power feed plugged into the board when you get this?  My board was completely dead with both the ATX and 12V CPU feed plugged in, but when I unplugged the 12V feed I got the orange/red lights you described.

  • [nForce] New motherboard not POSTing/booting (MSI K7N2GM2-ILSR)

You peeps seem like a knowledgeable lot so should be able to help with my problem.
I've just got a new motherboard (MSI K7N2GM2-ILSR) to replace my old one (which was a bit iffy in the USB department). I assembled the new motherboard and all the original components (excluding graphics card as my new motheboard has it built in) into the case and tried booting the machine. The bios and logos and so on came up on the screen but it wouldn't boot from the hard drive (probably some windows problem). I thought that a reinstall of windowsXP would fix it but I needed some data off the drive before I could continue. I then took all the components off the new motherboard (memory/processor/hd) and put them back on the old motherboard (which was working fine). When I hooked it all back up, the machine wouldn't even bring up the POST although it was getting power as the fans were going and the power LED was fine. The screen just never ever kicked in from standby. I took the harddrive to work and managed to get the data off it so returned home to put the components back on the new motherboard ready for the new windows install. Only when I turned it on I got the same problem as that with the original motherboard just tested (i.e. nothing came up on the screen, keyboard lights didn't flicker, had power but nothing resulted from it). Now I know it's not the monitor as I checked it worked with my laptop and I doubt it the graphics output as both the AGP card and the onboard graphics don't fire the monitor up.  And I doubt it's the PSU as it's ran the same processor and RAM on my old Asus motherboard.
So does anyone know if this is a broken processor problem, damaged RAM problem or something else?
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Rod

"...How easy is it to damage a CPU..."  Without propper care, very easy. 1. When inserting it into Mobo's slot, it should go without any force. If you have to push it, most probably you have bended a pin.- 2. Installing HSF: Applying too much strength to fit it, can break it. ( A corner ) 3.- If installing HSF in wrong way ( HSF Low step shoud go over CPU base step ) it will prevent HSF to work properly because only a part of CPU die will make good contact with HSF base. 4.- Installing HSF without using thermal grease (thermal pad ) over CPU die. ( It will let some air between them, so die is isolated and CPU temp will rise too much). 5. If reinstalling HSF., without cleaning it's base and CPU die from all old thermal compound before adding new one. 6. Adding too much thermal compound, even more if it has silver component ( Can cause a short.) But I'm sure there can be some others.

  • [SOLVED]No sound for user after new motherboard installation

So I installed a new motherboard, and thus a new soundchip. The system boots, it works fine, except for the fact that I just don't have any sound. MPD and mpv/mplayer don't give me any sound. I do, however, get sound from youtube in firefox. When I start a video in VLC, it tells me:

When I try to start alsamixer, I get: "cannot open mixer: No such device"
When I try to start alsamixer with sudo, it works...the levels are fine and the channels unmuted. Starting a video as root also gives me sound. Here is some output from mpv:

As usual, I try forever for fix it, then finally post a topic on the forums and immediately afterwards I find the error and fix it. I had an old ~/.asoundrc that was pointing to the now obsolete soundcard. Deleted that and now it works.

  • New Motherboard  problems backing up

The technician replaced my motherboard and now my Time Machine says "This backup is too large for the backup volume..." I reselected the TM hard drive to make sure. It only has 6 gigs of blank space. But I just want it to work like it did before where it replaces the changed files. I tried that link on macoshints.com and I just couldn't get it to work right in the terminal. It just says no such file etc.
I would love any help anyone can give me. Thank you

If you weren't successful in changing your MAC address in Time Machine using the directions in the Mac OS X Hints 10.5: Repair Time Machine after logic board changes post, Time Machine will try to make a completely new backup because of your new motherboard. That is probably why your Time Machine disk got overly full. This can cause all sorts of serious problems so launch the Time Machine interface and delete some old files in your backups that you are absolutely sure you don't need, leaving at least fifteen percent free space on your Time Machine Disk. Then launch Disk Utility and Verify your Time Machine Disk. If there are errors repeat Repair until Disk Utility reports no errors.
The next issue is the problem of changing your MAC address. If your hard drive name has spaces in it go to the Mac OS X Hints article and scroll down to the "Minor correction (escape the spaces!)" comment and follow those directions.
If that doesn't do the trick, you might want to ask on the Using Mac OS X Leopard Forum. More people who understand UNIX really well read that forum so it's more likely that someone who might be able to help you with changing your MAC address will see your post.

  • I am thinking I need a whole new motherboard

as the battery charger link to the computer became loose and apparently soldering them is a no go anywhere.....So I am guessing I need a whole new motherboard because of something as crazy as this. Apparently even though  it is a common problem for my laptops because of it just reaching over the warranty time I got told I was sol....so to say. So now I am seeking advice as to what motherboards will go into my computer with ease and not cause any issues. My particular laptop is the HP Pavillion 6500 p/n gs667ua#aba      it says it is the dv6629wm..........................SO PLEASE help me figure out what motherboard I can get that will not cause issues and will work correctly in this laptop. THANKS!

Hi, the motherboard does not have to be changed the power connector comes as a separate part. (100USD)
    446524-001 = 90W AC Adapter
    449454-001 = 65W AC Adapter
You will also have to add in the cost of labor to replace the part.

  • New motherboard can i reuse my OEM product key

is it possible to use the windows 7 product key from my PC that came with the old motherboard on a new motherboard that i have right now and then use my upgrade key that i used earlier on the other motherboard to upgrade to windows 8 again with the same
key? or would i have to buy a new windows 7 key and then use the upgrade key to get 8 again or.. would i just have to buy a whole new windows 8 key... i don't exactly make the largest amount of money i just got a new motherboard and CPU for my birthday i have
the same harddrive same everything else except the mobo and cpu

    Hi,
    I agree with britishdhez.
In addition, normally the OEM Windows license is tied to the motherboard. It could not work with new motherboard.
Meanwhile, you can post to Windows 7 Genuine Advantage forum to get more insights.
    http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/home?forum=genuinewindows7
Or, you’d better to contact the laptop manufacturer directly to consult the issue. In this way, your issue can be fixed efficiently.
    Hope it helps.

  • Sound Problem With new motherboard Z87-G45 Gaming

    2 days ago i bought a new motherboard msi Z87-G45 Gaming ,
when i started playing my favorite game (cs go) i noticed that the sound at the left and right are louder(way louder it even hurts me ears )
and the sound at the front and the back are just normal, i also noticed that quality of the sound is worse , so im wondering if the onboard soundcard is broken or has it to do with something else?
and yes the Realtek Hd Audio driver is installed
im using the onboard soundcard Realtek ALC1150
and the headset Siberia V2 Steelseries
I am new to the forum if i posted this in the wrong section or something i apologize
i also like to apologize for my bad english.

Apart from Realtek you could install Sound Blaster Cinema.
Try to reinstall the drivers >>Realtek Downloads<< with the latest available.
    Try different headset/speakers.

  • Satellite X200-20S runs slower with new motherboard

I wonder if anybody can help - under warranty I have just had a replacement motherboard. (Before the replacement the computer switched off within ten seconds of startup). Since replacement the computer is runnning at about 90% of the speed than while it was working pre-replacement. I have spoken with the Toshiba support who claim that without "hard facts" about the speed there is nothing they can do (ie. they won't book it back in). In some ways this is fair, however it simply is not as good as before and various tests I have done (which they claim to be subjective) consistently show that the computer is slower.
Toshiba support really like the Windows Experience Index (WEI) which I currently have as 4.8 - I think this is the same as before the replacement - but I have read that even this isn't that reliable. Can anybody with a X200-20S please tell me their WEI score, and a 3DMark'06 score?
After the motherboard was replaced I also got a new drive (BD-ROM) on E: Of course X200-20S models don't have Blu-Ray so this does show that the motherboard is different to the original, albeit the part number apparently being the same (according to Toshiba support).
I would like to know if anybody else has had a similar problem, and whether they managed to find a resolution. I am aware that the warranty expires in November and therefore must get things done quickly if anything can be done.
If you can help, please let me know.
    Many thanks!

    Hi Tonny,
Thanks for your suggestion. In all the time I've had the computer I've never bothered changing power management options, so am treating like for like. Since you mentioned it I've just had a look to see what the cpu option is, and it's 100% for the maximum output. However it is running more slowly as mentioned in the previous post.
I am convinced beyond doubt that the motherboard (which is the only thing to be replaced) is the cause of the problem. I have reset the computer to factory settings, installed the latest drivers; everything I can possibly do - and every test (including my memory of how games ran before) proves beyond doubt that the machine is running more slowly.
I simply am at a loss as to how to get the machine back to the previous speed. I can only think it isn't possible because the new motherboard replacements don't work as efficiently as the originals - although with the advance in technology over two and a half years that doesn't seem quite right. I can't get Toshiba support to take this problem seriously, because nothing is "broken". I wonder if it's some jumpers, or settings on the board which weren't done correctly when it was replaced.
    Thanks again.

  • New motherboard, sound issues.

    Hi friends.
This is my very first post on this community, so before I start... HELLO!
Let the sad story of carzo begin...
I bought a motherboard MSI z97 Gaming 5 in Spain and now I live in China.
I set it up very carefully and good (despite it was my first built computer!  ).
However, when I ran my OS I could feel that the sound was very bad, distorsioned, it sounded like an angry robot.
Firstly, I checked everything: drivers, pins, different operating systems, clean jacks (both of them, frontal and backside perform very badly),  build the computer again from the very beginning... but nothing made my sound sound good. I spent so many hours doing all this   that I almost jumped out the window.
Then, I tried the USB port, and VOILA! Sound was good! So... Okay: Since MSI warranty is not global and it will be more expensive to send the motherboard back to Spain and get it repaired, I will just buy a Logitech G430 USB headphones and a USB adapter for my speakers and I'm good to go. Forget about the golden jacks, who wants that anyway. Let's pay more money for USB stuff!
LOL NOPE. I was dumb enough to believe this, but even when I am listening to audio through USB I found out that my stereo is working bad. The left speaker sounds very low, and it doesn't even reproduce some sounds.
However, 7.1 sounds good as far as I can test. Not sure if it's working 100% good but I think so. By the way, I can enable 7.1 from my Logitech headphones drivers. I'm not an audio expert, but at least I am not deaf from the left side...
So here are my questions, dear friends:
1- Why is this happening to me?
2- Shall I just send the motherboard to fix despite I don't have warranty? Will it be very expensive? I think that the problem is only with the stereo printed circuit on the motherboard, but I dont know anything about electronics so who know? ha!
4- Will it be worth to just buy a strong sound card like sound blaster X? Or if I do that maybe I can still get the same problem?
3- This is not a question, but thanks for reading this! Sorry for my bad inglish

    hi friends!
the sad story of carzo has come to an end... a good one!
Somehow I knew that the problem was in the upper part of the case, where the front USB/jacks are... Since my friend suggested me not to use the frontal jacks because they can make my fancy headphones explode, I never did (just once when I spotted the initial problem).
Today I tried my headphones in there and put some pressure on the jack and it clicked....
So yeah, I've wasted a month in which I could have been enjoying this awesome computer trying to find out what was the problem, going to the official customer service and stuff. That makes me feel dumb, but still...
Everything works good now, and that makes carzo very happy! I still dont get how it can be affecting the backside jack since the HD audio cable was not connected at all... anyway, I dont care anymore. What's good is good!
    THANKS TO:
StaticFX: for telling me the funny story about the wash machine and encouraging me to go to the customer service, which got me a brand new motherboard for free even when global warranty doesnt cover it. I also got some stickers and SATA wires for free
Seadog: teach me stuff about bend pins
Nichrome: helping me diagnose the problem with many useful posts.
Somehow I want to thank this forum, so even if my knowledge about the matter sux, I will stay around to see if some guy gets the same problems I have, and of course learn from you guys!
    Until the next chapter!

    I have a Pavilion dv4000 from 2005.
Lately the video and sound is getting choppy and the whole operating system it is getting slow, especially on start up. (done cleaning and defragging).
I am sure it is time for a new motherboard. Currently the computer has 403915-00 motherboard. Maker, I am not sure of.
Where can I purchase this motherboard?  and or can I use a different / better motherboard instead of the original model it came with?

    sandall,
Sorry, but there isn't a new modern motherboard you can install in your IQ512. These motherboard are custom built to fit in a specific AIO case and use a specific set of hardware. A new motherboard would require a new case and possibly new hardware.

I don't know if this is hardware or software related problem. I bought a new motherboard MSI 865PE Neo3-V and my front USB connections doesn't recognized my USB devices (Unknown Device). I checked my wiring with the case and it seems ok. I am using Windows XP SP1. I also install its patches and updates. Please help. Tyvm.

Yes, this subject has been written about quite a bit.

Check to see if there is a wire running from your Front USB ports to the #10 slot of your USB block which connects to the motherboard header.
USB connector block layout which corresponds to the pin layout on boards with the Intel spec for USB. Do not cut the pin on the MOBO. You are removing/cutting the wire to the connector block from the case.
    2 4 6 8 10(this wire, #10, not needed)
    1 3 5 7 9(filled/key)
If you find a wire leading to the #10 spot on the block, remove that wire. My block has tabs so that you can pull the wire out, or you could snip/cut the wire leading to that position--if you cut the wire, be careful to cut the correct one and cut it in such a way that it may be repaired if you make a mistake.  Make sure you wrap the wire, the exposed end/s, you remove/cut with electrical tape so as not to accidentally cause a short. I actually folded the wire back and wrapped it.
2 posts to read--Here and Here.
This seems to be a common issue involving many different case manufacturers. I don't know how it applies to other MOBO manufacturers, but in these forums it is not limited to a specific MSI model or supported chipset(Intel or AMD).

  • I can't login to my account. I had to create a new acct to post this.

I have created my second new account today in order to post this. I wanted to post a question earlier, but when I tried to sign in Firefox told me the password I entered was wrong. It was not wrong. I created a new account and posted my question. Then to see if I could figure out what was wrong with my original account, I signed out of my new account and tried to sign in on my original account. No luck.
So then I tried to sign in to my new account. Same response: wrong password. I tried resetting my password four times and each time, after resetting it and being presented with the sign in page again, I got the same incorrect password response.
To post this I created another new account. To test whether this was related to the fact than I am now using Firefox 5, I tried to sign in with IE to both of my other accounts. No luck, same problem both times.

I figured it out. The short explanation is this: Use different email addresses when you set up accounts, and for the password reset, use that same email address. Otherwise, Firefox will connect the reset with either nothing, or with a different account that had that email address assigned to it.

    Hi
All notebook parts can be ordered from local Toshiba ASP (authorized service partner)
Therefore I recommend contacting the ASP in your country to get the compatible board.
But new mobo is very costly so dont know if its worth to replace the mobo in your case
