New mover question re: Audio recording

First impressions of this move to a Mac are very good indeed.
The question: I wish to be able to record analog audio to my Mac, edit and clean the recordings and burn to CD. could any one reccomend any software that I can use to achieve my aims.
Thanks in advance.

  • Newbie Question?   Audio Record

Have created Aggregate Device. Input = Firewire Audio, Output = Built In Audio
Audio 1 = Input 1. I see the level bar moving on both the Audio track and also the Mixer.
However I have no indication that Audio is being recorded - playback is quiet. Metronome is audible
This setup works with Garage Band,
1: How to setup Logic to record Audio (to Audio 1)
2: How to confirm that Audio is being recorded
3: How to setup Logic to playback Audio thru computer's audio out jack
    Thanks

Why aren't you using the audio output of your Firewire device?
Have you checked the Audio/Midi Control Panel?
The Audio Tab is where you set your inputs and outputs.
With your Firewire device plugged in, you should see it as one
of the options in the Input-Output fields.
It may not want to have the input and output on different devices.

  • When recording new movie, video is frozen

i've got QT pro 7.6, imac G5 w/ iSight; when I try to record a new movie using iSight, the record video is frozen in the viewing window... when I playback the recording, it's fine. Any remedies to the record-freeze?

Sounds like so much processing power, which is limited in the iMac is being used to compress there is nothing left for rendering the video on screen. You might try Quicktime Broadcaster, free, and use record to disk and see if you get both the video and the monitoring.

  • Other ways of adding audio recording to presentations Adobe Presenter 8?

    Hi there,
I just realised that I asked a question in the wrong language! I have a quick question re. audio recording in AP8. Is there anyway to add audio to a presnetation other than with a traditional recording device? i.e. can audio be recorded via PC or telepohne and then be added to the presentation? if so, how?
    Many thanks!
    KH

You can use the Import Audio tool to import any MP3 or WAV audio file. Presenter doesn't care where the audio file comes from, so as long as you can record the audio as one of those two file types, or convert it to one of those file types, you should be able to bring it into Presenter.
To simplify the process, you may want to break up the audio files so there is one for each slide, but this can be done in the audio editor if needed.

  • Quicktime not recording audio in New Movie Recording

Audio is not recorded when using an audio interface as the input in New Movie Recording, but records fine when in New Screen and Audio Recording. Using my laptop's internal microphone is fine, cannot work out what the problem is, as it has worked absolutely fine in the past, but has stopped.
Sound can be heard and the volume meter in Quicktime responds to sound coming in, just doesn't record at all in that mode.

Are you launching Captivate with Run As Administrator privilege?
If one of your co-workers logs onto your PC with their user profile, does the same microphone that doesn't work for you work OK for them?

  • QT Pro new movie recording

Is there any way to choose window size and bit rate when using the new movie recording feature(directly from firewire)? Recording preferences only lists good, better, and device native - without the ability to "fine tune". When recording TV using the better setting(h264) I get a different bit rate every time - from 215 kbps to 1164 kbps. I realize I can use device native then save it however I want but was hoping to avoid the extra step and long encoding time.

In QuickTime Pro, choose File > New Movie Recording (or File > New Audio Recording).
I do not get the option New Movie Recording?
Do you have a compatible video device connected to your system to provide video input? (I.e., QT 7 Pro does no include a "Screen Recoding" option if that is what you are trying to do. It only records video from a built-in or compatible externally connected video device.)

  • "Audio Record Path Not Found" error and new details

I've been having problems opening up older GarageBand files I've created and trying to add new content. When I try to record on an existing track, or in a new track, I get the error: "Audio Record Path not Found! Please enter it in the following dialog." (and there's no following dialog). I've tried to save the file as an archive, which has worked in the past, but doesn't work any longer. I'm using a MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 15"
As a test, I installed iLife 06 on my older (PowerPC-based) Mac Mini. On that computer, I'm able to open the files, and record onto an existing track. None of my recording equipment is attached to this machine, however. If I save an archive and move it to my macBook Pro, I'm still not able to add recordings to it.
I tried reintalling GarageBand on my MBP, but I still get the same error. I've also deleted the preference files from Library > Preferences. (the two com.apple.garageband... files), and still no luck. It doesn't sound like the audio files themsleves are corrupted since I can open them on the Mini, so it's likely GarageBand. What else can I delete to make it a pristine installation?
I don't want to use my Mac Mini for recording, as it's too slow for my editing needs, but if I can't open the files on my MacBook Pro, I'll have to re-record them.
Anyone have any ideas I can try?

Excellent suggestion! I actually left the files on the external USB drive on which I store them, and accessed them from my MacBook Pro (instead of moving the files to the MacBook Pro), and sure enough, I'm able to edit and add to the files!
I still don't know why I can't access them locally on the MBP, but this workaround is certainly acceptible for my needs!
Thanks out to everyone who helped on this thread!

  • There is no "New Movie Recording" menu item under "File" menu

I purchased the Quick Time 7 Pro. I registered the key successfully. (The Quick Time Settings window did show "Quick Time 7 Pro"). But when I brought up the Quick Time player, there is no "New Movie Recording" sub-menu item showing up under "File" menu. There are only "New Player", "New Audio Recording", "Open File", "Open URL.." etc. subitems under "File" menu. How to record the vedio without this item show up?? Thanks.

Recording video using QuickTime Pro is a "Mac only" feature of the software. Windows versions only have audio recording.

  • No New Movie Recording Command

I downloaded the 7.16 Quick Time Player and then upgraded to Quick Time Pro. The registration appeared to be successful, as the Preferences page now shows the user name, key code, and "Quick Time 7 Pro". However, on the File menu, there is no command for New Movie Recording. There's only New Player and New Audio Recording. What am I doing wrong??

First, everyone here is just a user like you. With rare exceptions, Apple employees do not participate in the Discussions. So it's not "our" advertisement.
As to "advertising", nowhere on the QuickTime for Windows site does it ever say that video capture is a feature. If you read the Mac feature list and just presumed that it applied as well to the Windows version, then that was obviously an unwarranted assumption. It's never wise to presume features hold consistent across platforms, as it's rarely the case.
You can ask for a refund, but it's extremely unlikely that you'll get one. Apple's terms of sale clearly state that download software isn't eligible for refunds, and this isn't a case of a feature being promised but not working but rather of mistaken expectations.
Sorry, but you're probably out of luck.

  • Why does Quicktime crash on "New Movie Recording?"

I have been trying to fix a bizarre problem.
When I open Quicktime and select "New Movie Recording," the application crashes. When I open any other Quicktime driven application that wants to do movie recording, it crashes. When I try to open Quicktime Preferences for "Recording" the application crashes.
I have repaired permissions and even set up another user to see if these make a difference. They do not.
    What can I do?
    Thanks.

    SOLUTION FOUND!!
I called Apple Care this morning...they had me run through a bunch of steps that were of no use to me. The Rep was in the process of getting more info when we were cut off. So I tried the logical step: UNINSTALL Quick Time, and DOWNLOAD a new one.
I have QT PRO, so I made sure I copied my authorization key before I did this. Go to your applications folder, drag and drop Quick Time in the Trash. Then empty the trash.
Go to the Quick Time page on Apple, download and install Quick Time. You'll be prompted to restart the computer.
After signing on, I double checked to see if my version was current. I also double checked by checking software updates. I went to the QT PREFERENCES page...and believe it or not, my Pro Registration Key was already filled in for me! If yours isn't, I suggest you enter it and then try and record a movie.
Btw, I'm also an Apple Care customer, so I did a Tech Tool Deluxe scan before and after the QT Uninstall/Reinstall. Prior to the uninstall, the Video RAM test FAILED. After the reinstall, the Video RAM test PASSED.
I just recorded three short video and audio tests...works like a charm!
I don't know what could have caused this, but I found it unusual that you and I had the same problem on the same day. Hopefully the gang at Apple will recognize this if it is indeed a wider issue.
Good luck...and let me know how it went for you!

  • I upgraded to yosemite and iOS 8 in order to record with quicktime. But when I select Record a new movies I immediately get an Operation Could not be completed error.

I upgraded to yosemite and iOS 8 in order to record with quicktime. But when I select Record a new movies I immediately get an Operation Could not be completed error. When I choose record audio or screenshots, I get a little further, but as soon as I select my ipad as the source I get the same error message.

You don't need to be a developer for this to work. I get the same error. Just one more thing on the list that make me upset more and more with Apple. Things just don't work out of the box like they used to.
This new feature was to be included with iOS 8 and Yosemite.

  • Tip: Quicktime Player capturing DV audio w/ video from firewire to New Movie

I am posting this as a new thread in hopes that it will help someone in the future, since it took me quite a bit of googling to find this info and it points to a very idiosynchratic and counter-intuitive behavior of Quicktime Player. This solution is from user jonmanheim  - thank you!
Re: Trying to capture both video and audio to Quicktime Pro from DV camera
Just figured it out.  A little wacky.  You have to open a new Movie Recording window in QT AFTER playback starts on the camera or audio doesn't get recorded.  If you first open a New Movie Recording window and THEN start playback, no audio from QT - either during playback on the speakers or during recording.

    Don,
Put your 32khz clip in the timeline and select Export>Quicktime Movie Current Settings >Audio Only
Give it a useful name .e.g. Myclip audio.mov
Open up Quicktime Pro & import the file.
    In QTP, Export>Sound to AIFF>Options>Compressor None>48khz/16bit/Stereo
    Save the file
Once back in FCP - import the newly created AIFF file, Unlink the Audio from the Video of your clip, delete the audio from the timeline and put your new audio clip in the delete one's place and Relink the audio and video.
    Good luck.

  • New Movie recording broken

    Hi,
Has anyone come across this before? It's a brand new Mac Pro with iSight attached.

Hmm it's working again. I'd read a few posts on the latest Audio Hijack causing all sorts of video/audio problems and since I used it for the first time on the Mac Pro earlier today I thought perhaps it could be a factor. So i removed the instant hijack plug-in with no change then proceeded to reinstall Quicktime and once again, no change. I then switched the firewire port and voila, new movie recording worked. I'm also able to re-use the same firewire port without issue so goodness knows what's going on but it works again.

  • Quicktime - no option to do 'new movie recording'.

I have upgraded to Quicktime pro but only have the option in the file menu to do 'new audio recording'. I want to be able to do 'new movie recording'. The software is installed on a new Toshiba laptop with an inbuilt cam. I have also tried plugging in an external webcam. Any suggestions?

Thanks Kirk. Not the outcome I wanted but it is good to have a definitive answer
Appreciate you taking the time to help

  • Quicktime "New Audio Recording" - Sound Input

    Hi,
My question is related to a "New Audio Recording" using Quicktime Pro.
Everything is fine with the recording, however, I can't hear sound that is inputed into my Mac untill the recording is done!
I would like to hear the sound that is being inputed into the Mac at all times. How can I turn the sound on so I can hear the input port?
    Thanks in advance,
