New mSata SSD Doesn't Fit Slot in y510p

Hello,
I recently purchased a intel 530 240GB ssd for my extra msata slot. Turns out that my new msata ssd won't fit the slot. I'm wondering if Lenovo installed the wrong type of slot on my mobo. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Hi,
The SSD you linked is an mSATA part.  It will not fit in a y510p.  It isn't just the size.  As stated earlier in this thread, the slot in the laptop (if it is there at all - some don't have an SSD slot) is for M.2/NGFF cards.  They are a completely different form factor than mSATA.
Here's the M.2 version:  http://www.mydigitalssd.com/sata-m2-ngff-ssd.php

  • New DVI-standard doesn't fit with old Apple adapter

    I bought a new MBP i7 the last week and was very surprised when i noticed that the adapter i bought (Mini Display to DVI) doesn't fit with my old adapter (DVI to VGA). Apples new DVI-adapter us the DVI-D standard and that doesn't work well with teh DVI-I standard. When i talked with Apple and also with a Apple store they didn't know of any new DVI-standard and if there is an adapter (Mini Display to DVI-I). http://www.interfacebus.com/DesignConnector_Digital_Visual_Interface_DVIBus.html
    Is there anyone out there who know if it is possible to buy this Mini Display to DVI-I (Dual)?

    The Apple Mini-Displayport-to-DVI adapter is DVI-D because there is no analog signal emitted from the Mini-Displayport. The contacts the adapter lacks are the ones that would carry an analog signal, if there were any. If you want to connect your MBP to a device with a VGA input port, get a mini-displayport-to-VGA adapter.

  • New ipod nano doesn't fit new ipod hifi

    I just bought a new 4 meg ipod nano and apple ipod hifi from the London Apple Store. The ipod nano doesn't fit in its adapter. Anyone know of this problem? I'm gobsmacked that Apple's quality control let this happen!
    Thanks

    The page
    http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/specs.html
    clearly says:
    In the box:
    * iPod nano
    * Earphones
    * USB 2.0 cable
    * Dock adapter
    * Quick Start guide
    If the dock adapter is missing, which is what you need, because the iPod Hi-Fi only ships with an adapter for the 1st-gen iPod nano, then you need to contact Apple or your retailer.

  • New PC card doesn't fit satelite 1905-S301

    I just ordered a new 4 x usb pc card to substitute for the two broken usb ports on the back.  The problem is that the new card will not fit into the pc card slot.  I use a netgear wireless pc card and it seems to have larger pin holes than the new usb pc card.  The satelite ahs 2 type II pc card slots and the new card is type II.  Did the pin sizes change in last 9 years, or did they manufacture the new card wrong?
    I got the new card from newegg.com laptop acessories -> (guided search on left side) laptop add-on cards -> 4 x usb card -> look for koutech IO pcmcia card. I'm sending this one back.

  • New Power Adapter Doesn't fit right

    The power adapter for my iBook G3 started only working when it really felt like it, so I check the discussion boards about buying a new one. I saw the link about Shentech.com, which indicated their power cord was the same as the one bought from the Apple Store, though it cost about half as much. I bought this one, but when it arrived (it was delivered VERY quickly), I was concerned because I have to force it into the computer. It charges the battery just fine, but I am concerned about ultimately doing damage to the computer. It is a model A 1036. Has anyone else had this issue? Since I didn't buy it directly from Apple, can I still ask Apple about it, as it is an Apple Product?

    Hi, Katie. Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    Yes, I have the exact same issue with the 65-watt adapter I bought from Shentech:
    http://store.shentech.com/apge24v265ws.html
    I thought perhaps it was because I bought the 65-watt instead of the 45-watt that originally came with the iBook. I always keep an extra on hand, and that super-tight one has been relegated to "extra" status. I am always VERY careful any time I plug it in.
    If you are very worried about it, maybe you should call Shentech and ask for a replacement. They may be refurbishing them. Even though it says "new" on their website, mine is a bit scuffed, and does not LOOK new.
    A call to Apple about it may shut Shentech down if they are selling refurbished Apple products as new, but maybe that would be the right thing to do?
    I'm afraid this isn't much help, but it does let you know that you're not alone.

  • Tecra R840 installing mSata SSD in position of 3G module

    Hello,
    i have a Tecra R840-110 model, there is also 3G module inside, i would like to install the mSata SSD in the pcie slot.
    Is possible to use the mSata SSD in the pcie slot instead of 3G module?
    Thank you for your help!

    I think something like this is not possible. Mainboard ports are not some kind of flexible ports.
    In the past Toshiba has offered second HDD upgrade in place of optical disc drive using special adapter.

    The question I have is that windows does not see this as a drive from my computer..ect.  My question is how to I get Win 7 to see this drive so I can move my win 7 to it and set as a the boot drive.
    What step am I missing???  Thanks everyone for your help!!!
    Chris

    Hi, guys
    If you whant to use the msata drive as the 2nd drive in the system you've to initialize it.
    For making it bootable the are seveal methods. I've used the next two:
    1. I used Intel Data Migration Software tool (based on Acronis technology) to transfer all image from the stock hdd to the new Intel SSD drive 320 Series (120 gb). At this moment the new drive was plased into the external usb box. Then I've booted from the new drive and resized the partitions using the Disk Management applet.
    2. The second method is to use the factory recovery media (USB stick in my case). I did that for the new msata SSD drive (non Intel 128 gb). Insert the new drive, boot from the usb stick, fully recover, reboot into the bios setup, change the boot priority for the new drive, reboot from the new drive, resize the partitions and delete the Lenovo_recovery partition on the new drive. I'm sure the cloning tool will work for msata too.
    No actions were carried out with the SSD drives (I mean initializing, partioning...) before data migrating in both cases.

    If I would be buying now the mSATA, I would invest in M500 mSATA. I have very positive experience with Crucial M4 CT256M4SSD3 mSATA, running very reliable for more than 6 months now. The only downturn is that M4 mSATA is running in SATA2 mode in W520 but to be honest, in everyday work I can neglect it, with the differences in speed and access time compared to my two other SSD in slots 0 I can live - on mSATA is OS, programs and data, on other 2 SSD's are virtual machines. I really hope that with upcomming haswell intel processors the lenovo will implement all 6 SATA ports in SATA3 mode in ThinkPad W540, at least the upcomming intel chipset should (Z87) should be offering it.

    I have a three year old macbook air. I ordered a new powercord from amazon (two, actually), and it doesn't fit.
    The cord connection is too long for my computer.

    Yes, there is a new style adapter called MagSafe2, you need the original MagSafe adapter.

    Not sure what adapter cable you have but if your new machine is a mid 2011 iMac you need this cable. Not a replica of the cable you need the adapter cable Apple sells:

    I discussed purchasing some RAM and was told that this product would work for my G5. However upon recieving the product I discovered that doesn't work and doesn't even fit inside the slot!
    My question to you is what is the problem... and what type of RAM do I really need to order. Thanks...

    I have the newest model for the Powermac G5's and its the 1999$ model. So its Dual 2.0 Ghz. The part that doesn't fit is the little "u" in the center where it has to correspond for the slot. That "u" is maybe a centimeter off from being in the correct spot. It would be nice if someone could just post a link on newegg.com of RAM that is known to work and is 2x 1 GBs chips.

  • T430s mSATA SSD cache and new SSD?

    I just ordered a new T430s with a 500GB drive and the 16GB mSATA SSD cache.  A friend has now talked me in to replacing the 500GB drive with a Samsung 840 Pro 512GB SSD, though nothing has been purchased just yet.
    My question is:  obviously its dumb to have a 16GB SSD cache sitting in front of another SSD, yes?  So, what are my options?  Can I repurpose the mSATA SSD for something else?  Should I just pull it out?
    (And, yes, I should have thought of this before I placed my order.  Hindsight, right?)
    Thanks for your ideas/help/instructions!
    Best regards,
    Charles

    Hello and welcome,
    You'll get a bunch of different opionions on this
    If you're going with a big SSD, you might as well just remove the mSATA device.
    I've taken a different approach with my T420.  Left the HDD in and installed a 256GB mSATA SSD.  The SSD holds the OS and the stuff that I want to be fast.  The HDD has less-frequently accessed data - and a backup of the SSD.
    The HDD is set to spin down when inactive.  Saves power and noise.  Mostly the machine just runs off the SSD.

  • New Model: HP Envy 15t Upgrade HD to SSD or mSATA SSD?

    Hello Everyone,
    I have been reading several threads on upgrading the HDD to SSD and it seems like everyone has been successful in doing so.  My question is, is there a benefit to upgrade the HDD to a SSD or to just add in mSATA SSD?  I currently have a networked drive that holds most of my data such as music, pictures, and videos so I do not believe I need more capacity on my hard drive.  With that being said, I planned on buying a 256/240GB SSD drive, it is just a matter of which one do I purchase? a regular SSD or mSATA SSD?  Thoughts?  Comments?  Concerns?
    Mike Lee
    on a side note:  I have the new Envy 15t...I really wished they would have changed the model name to something completely different since the prefix is the same as their old model...stupid....
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Get a regular 2.5 inch SATA SSD. Very slightly slower than an mSSD but still way faster than anything else. Trying to configure the mSSD as boot drive is a huge hassle.
