New MSI 460GTX Hawk causing monitor whine

Just upgraded my computer to a new 460GTX.
Noticed that while playing games there is a very noticeable whine coming from
the monitor.
The monitor is a Asus VH232H
The monitor is about 2 months old and I have used it continually running games with my
old video card.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
Nick/West Virginia

Will be hooking up my old acer monitor today. If the noise is still there then obviously there is some issue with the card or its settings.Hopefully I can get this issue resolved. Beautiful video card.

hi , i am new here, if i ask some stupid please forgive me ,
i just bought the MSI 460 Hawk last week ago, when i plug in to the motherboard , the beep sound is occur frequently, sometimes is 1 beep , sometimes 2 beeps  , or 3 or 4 beep but i can starting the window and do anything , just because of the beep sound , make me headache. i have to connect two power connector from power supply to the card proper.
I changed back to my old graphic card , it work proper , no beep sound at all . my power supply should ok . Thermaltake toughpower grand 700W 80plus gold.  But the poor thing is my motherboard only asus P7H55-M , will be my motherboard not able to support the card?..
I found out my mini HDMI converter which provided by MSI hawk card is spoil (the head of convertor totally loose )  (yes. i connect with HDMI cable between card and monitor).. that will occur the beep sound ?
and the card have the own speaker? cause i did troubleshooting, i do not connect to the speaker(system warning speaker, 4 pin speaker)  at the motherboard , but i still can hear the beep sound. i unplug some of the connector, the hard disk power, dvd rom, the beep sound is occur , so i think is my graphic card problem.

  • MSI 560Ti Hawk weird monitor behaviour

I got my videocard as mentioned in the title FINALLY today (it was announced early april) and installed it to my system. The problem is it gave me no signal on my display (Samsung 226BW), so i went troubleshooting.
    Hardware involved:
    MSI Geforce 560Ti Hawk
MSI Geforce 275 GTX Twin Frozr OC
    Samsung 226BW
    Samsung 940NW
DVI-D Single link cable provided by Samsung with 226BW
DVI-A Converter provided by MSI with MSI Geforce 560Ti Hawk
    Regular VGA cable
    To summarize my results;
    1. Using the above mentioned 275 GTX and the DVI cable as mentioned above, there are no problems with both of the DVI connectors on the card regarding operation, works fine
    2. When I replace my old card with the new one, and use the mentioned DVI cable, the left or most outer slot of the videocard will NOT work, gives no signal. The central one or the right one (when installed) works fine.
    3. When i swap my monitor with the one my GF owns, a 940NW which only has VGA input, it works fine with the mentioned equipment above, so a converter and a standard VGA cable, on both DVI connectors on my NEW card.
    4. When i use that  connection (VGA cable + DVI-A converter) on my 226BW, which has DVI in and VGA in, it works on both DVI ports.
So, to even further summarize my findings, I find that the first or most outer DVI connection will NOT work with my DVI cable OR my monitor.
Could anyone shed some light on this and help me? Do I need another sort of DVI cable, or do I have to replace my monitor for it to work on the most left or outer DVI connection on the videocard?

Too me it seems (thinking about it a little more), that my outer or right DVI slot is defective for DVI-D connections. (the actual pins that DVI-D uses are not working properly) When I uses an analogue connection for this port, it works fine, so the analogue pins (which differ from the DVI pins) and with that de analogue connection works fine. When I use the center DVI connection, and my DVI cable as stated above, it works fine, showing both the cable and the monitor work properly. I'm thinking of RMA'ing the card. Any suggestions would be appreciated still

  • 460GTX Hawk: does not display POST

I recently purchased a 460GTX Hawk to replace my HD5770.  Before I go any further here are my system specs.
    AMD 7750 Black Ed.
    Asus M2N-E
    4GB G.Skill DDR2
    Antec 850W PSU
    MSI 460GTX Hawk
    1394 card
    Intel NIC
    Auzentec Sound card
    Windows 7 Pro
    *Have completed a BIOS clear
*Did testing with all cards removed
After I had installed the card the first 2 days it would not POST or do anything remotely interesting...not even a beep.  Today, it did not POST but started to display when the OS started to load.  Its all jim-dandy that it *works but I would like to view my POST when I Boot/Reboot.  I have seen a thread that a user has a very similar, if not exactly the same, issue as I but there was no conclusive resolve, at least not posted in the thread.
I have a few other machines that I can test with tomorrow but I am not expecting much as I have tested a 8800GTS, HD4790 and the 5770 all fine after attempting to successfully getting the 460GTX Hawk installed.  I wonder if this is RMA bound, if there was offline communication from the thread mentioned above or if someone here can help.
    Thanks.

Yes, it would be a MB/BIOS problem not VGA card, if it was a VGA problem it would not have worked when it got to Windows loading either.
Glad to see you got it sorted out soon enough without too much running around in circles.

  • Buying NEW MSI Hawk 5770 on eBay... Warranty?

Like the title suggests, I'm interested in picking up a 5770 from MSI. I got one from XFX and noticed that this one is available for less. I am wondering if MSI' warranty would cover buying this product in NEW condition from an auction site like eBay.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. :-D

None mention retailers. While I would take that as "No, MSI does not exclude auctioned NEW cards that you registered to your address and user info." I'm hoping to play it safe. The Warranty Policies and Discretions don't give a definite answer, so...
I thought it was pretty clear from the opening two lines on the page I linked you to:
    Quote
Besides Seller Warranty provided by your vendor, MSI Computer Corporation also provide Manufacturer Warranty to warrants its products delivered in Northern America for use in Northern America ONLY!
In order to obtain a faster service, MSI encourages customers to obtain service from his/her original vendor.  However, should customers have difficulty obtaining service, MSI is always willing to assist all customers to trouble shoot, repair or replace our defective product.
Basically I'm reading that as 'if your vendor (ie the person/store who sold you the card) can't help you, then MSI will.'
Obviously, if the auction seller didn't buy the card in the USA, then that might be a different case altogether.

  • Questions about my MSI R5770 Hawk Radeon HD 5770 and my Dell Studio 7100

Ok, I have had this card installed for about a year now. From the beginning Catalyst Control Center had given me error messages, "Catalyst Control Centre: Host application has stopped working. Windows is checking for solutions" every time I start the machine or every time I try to use the Catalyst Control Center. This has not been a problem because I have been using a 2 monitor system using the DVI port from on and the HDMI to Display Port adapter to the second larger monitor (if I went straight HDMI I can't change the settings and I end up with a 1 inch black border around the desktop and the outer edge of the 23" monitor,) so I just worked around with the HDMI to DVI. Well now I am trying to hook up three monitors. One to the Display port through a Displayport to DVI, one to the HDMI through the HDMI to DVI and one to the Display port. No matter what I try to do through the Windows display control panel, I can not get the displayport monitor (which ever is hook to that port) to display. Windows 7 does detect all three monitors, but it will not allow me to "extend the desktop" to the third monitor and I still can't get the Catalyst Control Center to work.
I have uninstalled all files from ATI or AMD that involve the video and reinstalled the latest drivers and software, but the Catalyst Control center still is not running.
If you could help me with this it would be great. I am a graphics designer and web designer/developer and not a hardware or software tech and I have been googling and trying different possible answers since yesterday morning.
    My graphics card is
MSI R5770 Hawk Radeon HD 5770
    My computer is
Dell Studio XPS 7100, AMD Athlon IIX4 630 Processor 2.80 GHz
    8 gb
    64-bit operating system
I am attempting to hook up a LG W2361 to the HDMI through HDMI to DVI adapter (presently working) at 1920 x 1080
an LG W1952 (at 1440 x 900) through the DVI port to DVI (presently working) and
an old Samsung SyncMaster 170t  to the Displayport through a the adapter (not working) monitor is detected but it will not allow the extend desktop to be applied.
Hope someone can help, thanks in advance for just reading all of this.

Just incase anyone runs into a similar problem. I figured it out.
Somehow in one of either the ATI driver updates or in a Microsoft update, my drivers and software was contaminated. I deleted all software and drivers for the card, which I had already tried several times. But this time I went into safe mode used CCcleaner in safe mode and cleared the register of all entries. I then reloaded and the Catalyst Control center and it works fine now.
The problem with the three monitors seems to be that the one hooked to the displayport, if you are using more than 2 monitors, must be hooked to an active displayport adapter. I was using a passive adapter. So either I need to buy a very expensive adapter or.....maybe a new monitor that uses displayport.
Hopefully this will help someone else having this issue.

  • Getting audio through HDMI on MSi 5770 Hawk

    Hey all,
I just built a new system using the ASUS P6X58D Premium motherboard and I have two MSi r5770 Hawk graphics cards CrossFire'd.  I've got my monitor plugged into the DVI port and also an HDMI cable from the HDMI port to my surround sound system (and to TV).  I'm not getting any audio out of the HDMI (not surprising).  I'm reasonably sure I need a SPDIF cable from the graphics card to the motherboard.
So I think the graphics card came with two of these weird looking SPDIF cables that just have the connector to the graphics card and these two weird socket cables.  There are two problems with this:  For the two weird socket things, I don't see anyplace on the motherboard for it to go.  Second, the cables are literally like two inches long, so there's no way it is going to reach the motherboard even if it were the right cable.
So I guess what I'm wondering is if anyone can tell me what cable I need to go from the SPDIF connector on the P6X58D Premium mobo to the MSI r5770 Hawk graphics card.  Or do I have the wrong idea?
    Thanks!

Are you describing the MOLEX to 6 pin power adapters and not S/PDIF cable? S/PDIF cable is about 130mm (12 in.) long 2 wire cable and are only supplied from MSI with NVIDIA VGA cards. ATI should have internal S/PDIF and I don't think they need the cable.

Everything is working when powering on, there is no signal to the monitor however.
    Tried already:
Checked all cables. Using 1x 6pin connector in both spots on the gfx card.
Tried with a backup GFX card, ati radeon 19xx and it worked perfectly, so it's not the motherboard.
I just tried putting in a chassis speaker and i get 2 very fast beeps, pause 8 fast beeps, pause, 1 beep.
I have tried with minimal hardware connected (No hd's, 1 ramblock, no cd drive, fans etc)
It shouldnt be the power supply, my old card (Inno3d geforce 8800 GTS used around the same amount of power according to specifications)
I havent got a newer computer to try the GFX card in, is it even compatible with my asrock motherboard? (I know it should be due to it having pci express 2.1)
    Is the GFX card DOA?
Help much appreciated, been struggeling for +10 hours now..
    Thanks in advance

In theory, yes, the P43-C51 should support the R6870, since it has a v2.0 slot (problems have been mostly with the v1.x slots). That's something you'd have to test though, to find out for certain.
I don't work for MSI btw, if that's what you thought.

  • MSI 7870 hawk 1 ghz edition PC freezing problem

Issues first started when i updated amd drivers from omega to 15.5 beta for witcher 3. Youtube videos would cause driver to crash and it would recover. It would do that daily several times. It was going like that until today. PC will just freeze now. I swapped GPUs and now at the time of writting im using 5870 and there are no problems. videos are playing normally no freezing or driver crashing. Also only videos would cause drivers to crash and when i was gaming there was absolutely no problem at all. Now (with msi hawk) if i just stick on desktop or go on a website PC would just freeze. If i get into game (for example WoW) i would get choppy fps and it would keep going like that until i exit the game, once i exit the game after about a minute PC will lock itself up. I monitor my temperatures all the time. I noticed that in msi afterburner it says gpu "0 degrees" and it shows that load is 0% when it goes nuts but it will keep rendering the game until i close the game and then PC will just freeze.
I don't know what to do. Could it be that my MSI hawk is dead? :/ It is only 1 year old from the day i got it from the shop. Is there anything to be done to fix this problem? I just hope it's fixable.

What were the temps when it was just sitting there? Or playing a game?
Did you try going back to the older omega drivers to see if that rectified the problem at all?
Sitting temps were going between 35-40 (it's quite hot in the room) and when i turn on the game it goes to about 50 degrees and hangs there (wow isnt really graphically intensive and doesnt cook gpu like at all). Yeah i reverted back to omega drivers to see if beta drivers were making this problem but no. Problem still exists. Drivers are still omega drivers since reverting and with 5870 works fine. :/

  • MSI R6870 Hawk graphics issues

Hello, I built my new computer a couple of days ago, with a MSI R6870 Hawk in it.
Two days ago I played Left 4 Dead 2 with the highest settings (something I would never have dared to do before) and the computer didn't even flinch, I was amazed. However, since yesterday I noticed some very annoying checkerboard-like artifacts flickering at first in TF2. At first I thought it was because TF2 files were corrupt or what have you, but whatever I did, these artifacts wouldn't disappear, and have now spread across various other games. Links to screenshots below, however they do not show the full flickering.

Of course, the newest drivers are installed and everything. Checked with MSI Afterburner and GPU-Z, and temperatures are around 50-55 °C for all sensors after one hour of gaming, so I don't think it's overheating. No improvement after reinstalling the drivers.
    Any help?
Other info about the system: Windows 7 Ultimate x64, Intel i5-2500k, Asus P8P67, 8GB RAM, etc.

You got me wrong, respectively I left out a step in my logic. I could find out what's wrong with it on my own and I would find the cause, fair enough, and I didn't rule out that I wouldn't do it. What I meant was that in case it turned out to that the clocks were too high in its out-of-the-box state, I would not be satisfied with the product, considering that I would have dished out the money for this card only to have it clocked down. That's what I meant with counterproductive. Yeah, probably the wrong word indeed but you get the message.

  • New MSI GE70 2PE laptop screen not turning on/potential graphics problem

    Hi all,
This is very frustrating for me!
I've just bought a brand new MSI GE70 2PE gaming laptop for my partner and turning on causes the power on light to blink blue and orange - something i'm struggling to find any information online for. The screen remains black with no backlight or turning on. I have tried plugging the laptop through VGA into my monitor and it also says it cannot pick up any signal.
This is leading me to think it is some sort of graphics related problem. The disc drive is ejecting, I can hear the processor ticking along and all the fans etc are on - so it's not completely dead.
The fan is actually pumping out fairly warm air too, when left idle which to me seems a little odd too - I wouldn't thought it would be struggling at this point.
I have no idea what is going on, if the laptop is completely faulty or its something I am overlooking. It's supposedly 'brand new' - well the box was sealed and this problem has occurred from the first time I have tried to boot it.
I've tried running it on battery, purely on AC and this doesn't seem to make a difference.
Any ideas people? This is super frustrating and I don't want to have to get in contact with MSI about this for some sort of warantee job.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hello hybridoriental,
Since your laptop is still brand new one under the warranty, I'll suggest you send it to the MSI service centers or MSI authorized service points for inspections.
The power light in orange means the system is accessing the discrete GPU. Looks like your laptop stuck in a loop before it started the BIOS. Just make sure you installed the battery and plugged the AC power before you turn it on. If it still doesn't work, it would be better and time-saving to send it to someone whom can inspect and take care of the laptop rather than figure it out by yourself.

  • MSI N460GTX Hawk (1GB) Overclocking Results

I've had very good results with overclocking my N460GTX Hawk video card.

My new N460GTX Hawk Talon Attack card is arriving in a few days and I plan to use my N650SLI-DS4 motherboard with an overclocked SLI setup. I'm curious to see how well SLI performance scales with an "ancient" motherboard.

Quote from:  by Unwinder developer of Afterburner to a similar Question in Afterburner support forum
That's supposed to be that way, you WILL NOT be able to monitor voltage changes with any software tool reading voltages via NVIDIA driver.
Hawk uses additional voltage controller chip which is adding programmable voltage offset to output voltage of reference NVIDIA voltage control circuit.
None of tools you've mentioned support that additional chip and just show you expected target voltage (which doesn't match real value in case of adding an offset via that additional chip).
Furthermore, that additional chip itself also doesn't support voltage readings, it doesn't even know which voltage is on its' input, it is rather simple IC which just trying to modify the input value by specified offset.
That is why there is no (and there will not be in future, I've seen rumors that I'm working on getting voltage monitoring working on Hawks and I say that's not true) voltage monitoring for Hawks when alternate voltage controller circuit is in use.
The best thing that can be done to see some form of expected voltage is approximating the output by displaying summ of NVIDIA reference voltage with additional offset, but that's by far not the best solution because both components (reference circuit and additional offset circuit) add its own inaccuracy.

  • Is new MSI K9A2 Platinum DOA?

Bought a new MSI K9A2 Platinum Version 1 MOBO off eBay, installed with spacers between board and case and installed my current hardware. Power came on but, pc would not post. Monitor kept showing no signal, power and HD LED came on for 1 to 2 seconds and Green and White LEDs on MB came on and stayed on. So I cleared CMOS, took out one video card and NIC so was pretty much down to bare minimum, one video card, one stick ram, CPU, HD (SATA) and MOBO but, still suffered same issue. Is MOBO DOA?
    Existing Hardware from my PC:
Antec Neopower 500 (500 watts) power supply
    AMD Athlon X2 6000+ (3.02 GHz) (Windsor, 90nm, AM2 (940))

2 X ATI Radeon 1950 GT running in Crossfire mode (installed both cards in dark blue ports)
    Fujitsu 300 GB HD SATA
    Sony DVD RW
    Bigfoot NIC model: Killer M1
ATX Case with 4 X 90 MM Case fans
Initially thought could be the video cards but, owner's guide and MSI Tech Support state that K9A2 can support up to 16X, so I assume that also means it support PCIe 1.0 as well as PCIe 2.0.
Have read on MSI forum that power could be the issue but, tend to believe if I take it down to bare minimum (CPU, CPU Cooler, 1 Stick of Ram, 1 Video Card, HD (SATA), 2 X 90mm case fans and MOBO)  that it should have booted up at the point.

    Boombox,
Good morning and thanks for putting my concerns to rest, like I said before, I have to upgrade a part at time.  Next piece is AMD Phenom II X4 955 (hopefully gets here NLT Tuesday) with RAM I purchased last month and did not want to fry them first time I boot up the system.   Plus I am on Day 2 since switch out of my K9A and still no issues
Also I must weigh in on MSI's RMA process, overall the process is pretty smooth, my issue is with the replacement MOBO.  Guess after they tested my old MOBO (NEW OUT OF THE BOX), they had to replace it.  Replacement board was USED (assuming until failure by previous owner) and had some "Cosmetic issues", 1. Copper Cooling tube is slightly crushed not sure what that does to air flow and 2.  Half of the IDE pins were bent, I can't see thing in front of me, so I had to take a digital picture of IDE plug and blow up so I could see which way to bend them back.  Figure there would be some sort of QC before return but, guess not......
Assuming since it all relates to this post, once I install CPU and RAM will let those that have taken time out of their day to help me, know what my latest status is.  Again Thanks to all of you, hopefully I can pay back your help in the future.
