New MSI 97 GAMING 5 CHIP FAILURE ? help
HELLO,
I have just purchased a msi z97 gaming 5 (with intel I7 4790K) .
It starts and worked normaly for a few minutes, then during windows installation it stopped brutally , and no way to start it again. The led is flashing blue for a few seconds sometimes when attempting to start again.
I have changed all the components (power, cpu memory..) , same. Rarely, after many attemps it starts rarely but if I reset, no start and led flashing blue, no error code. Just if there was no power . I have changed power unit I am sure that it's working . I have also changed the case ... So I am sure all components others than the motherboard are ok...
What means this led blue flashing sometimes ? Is the motherboard dead ?
Advise ?
Thanks
thank you for your help
maybe you could check if there might be bent pin in ??
did you try to plug out power supply and clear CMOS again? or clear CMOS/take out battery and wait for 10 min before power on again..
no power means your CPU fan will still spins right but only show blank screen?

Msi z97 gaming 5 bios update help
Hello I recently purchased the msi z97 gaming 5 motherboard. It was working fine it came with bios version 1.0 and I wanted to update it. I downloaded the latest 1.5 bios from msi website copied to usb flash drive and flashed it using mflash. Computer powers on but black screen wont do nothing. I cleared cmos and battery and still nothing so I am pretty sure its bricked. I am going to store to exchange it for another one but I want to be able to safely update the bios without bricking again. I usually dont update bios unless needed but i need at least 1.2 bios to fully support the devils canyon cpu. Can someone please point me in the right direction? I read about the usb flashing tool in forum but also read that bios+me need to be flashed and I don't know if that program is up to date and will flash both files? I really appreciate it if someone helped thanks in advance.
Also does anyone know if it is dangerous to update the bios with a 4690k devils canyon cpu since it is not officially supported until 1.2? Is that why my first bios flash was bricked? I would hate to go and borrow another cpu just to update the bios but if I have to I will. Sorry for all the questions but I need to get my bios updated and I will not update it until I am sure of all these things. Thanks to anyone who answers these questions.

New MSI Z97 Gaming 3 - very strange audio issues
(sorry for the long post)
Hi, I recently bought some computer parts from Newegg and built my first gaming pc yesterday, but when everything was finished setting up I noticed a major issue with the audio. Both the headphone jack on the motherboard and the headphone jack from the front panel connector aren't working correctly.
If I plug in my headphones into the motherboard jack, the audio level is REALLY low. Like, even if I turn up the volume to 100% it sounds like it's only at 10%. I looked through the volume settings for the headphones and didn't notice anything wrong. Then I tried updating my drivers with the cd and ran the live update utility, but nothing changed. Also, the audio will sometimes make distorted/static sounds when the music itself is loud, yet I can still barely hear the music.
The front panel jack is even worse! The sound is much more distorted/static-y when I plug in my headphones there.
I know it's not my headphones fault because they work fine on my laptop. Even if I plug in a different pair, I still get the same low volume and static.
I know the front panel issue is not because of the case. If I put the motherboard in an old HP case and plug in my headphones into the front panel on this case, same issue. (I know the old case normally works fine).
I even tried running a linux live usb in case it was something wrong with Windows. It still had the same issues.
My specs:
MSI Z97 Gaming 3 ATX LGA1150
Intel Core i5-4590
MSI GeForce GTX 970
Corsair Vengeance Pro 8GB
WD Blue 1TB
XFX XTR Series 550W
Windows 8.1 Pro
I would really appreciate some help. It seems like I've tried everything.Hi
What is the BIOS version your board currently has?
Try without graphics card and with single RAM stick.
You could also try out of the case on non conductive surface like wooden table or motherboard box, and see if it works then. Might be something in either cases shortening the board. -
New MSI Z97 Gaming 7 and 4690K Overclocking
I have finally received my MSI Z97 Gaming 7 and 4690k earlier this week.
When I did the overclock Genie it took me up to 3.9mhz but believe this can be easily overclocked higher manually. I am fairly new to overclocking. However, can't seem to find the ability to manually overclock this in the BIOS.
Any ideas where/how to do this or if there is an online guide. Also has a Noctua NH-D14 cooling the CPU.First of all you disable OC Genie, it is useless for people that want MORE oc than it gives you.
Here is forum's OC guide:
https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=40413.0
And other forum's OC guide:

I don't overclock (see my spec) so I can't provide you with more details but can guide you to a good link -
BRAND NEW MSI x99s Gaming 7 Won't Boot, Debug Code 00
Just completed my build and my pc won't boot. Everything plugged directly into the psu is working but fans plugged into mother board don't spin and getting debug code 00 nothing displayed on screen.
Hmm ok.
What you could do is: try each stick on its own, in every single DIMM slot. Make note which slots/sticks work or dont work. Then add to 1 (known to work) RAM stick and try moving this single one around all DIMMs again. Do the same until you get a failure or if works fine.
Which slots did you use by the way?
Quote from: robbie.bowden on 18-May-15, 04:23:08
I then added the 4th one back in and now it boots. Any ideas why just switching those 2 positions would change anything??
Maybe for the first time it didnt go all the way down? -

hi guys, was after a bit of help/advice.
I swapped out my gigabyte GTX770 4gb O/C card for a new MSI GTX970 Gaming 4G card yesterday.
At the same time I decided to do a clean installation of drivers and update to new 344.48 drivers.
I uninstalled the 344.16 drivers and used driver sweeper as normal to clear out old NVidia files.
I then tried to install the new 344.48 WHQL drivers from the nvidia site and I got a security warning stating the driver install could not proceed as the driver wasn't digitally signed
I downloaded a new version of 344.48 from the nvidia website and this time the driver installed.
However, when I tried to play the a game of BF4 or borderlands, I get an APP Crash error and the game freezes.
I have just done a clean installation of windows in case I had corrupt anything during card swap over, and once again downloaded a fresh version of 344.48 WHQL and once again its telling me the driver is not digitally signed and I cant proceed with installation.
I have managed to get the older 344.16 driver installed at the moment, but I haven't a clue what is causing this. I have yet to test the games after the clean windows install, but I have feeling they are going to crash again.
I hope I don't have to RMA this card ;/

I'd try to update the motherboard bios as well. http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4481#bios
cheers guys, I just flashed to latest F10b bios and changed pci-e slot from gen3 to auto in bios, running borderlands now for last 30mins in OC mode on card and no crashes or app hangs
fingers crossed, this has resolved the crash issues.....still doesn't explain why the latest Nvidia drivers are saying I cant install due to no digital signature.
I will try to update to latest 344.48 later and see what happens, don't want to mess too much at the moment as I've only just got this card stable....fingers crossed ;p
thanks for your help guys -
ok got my new msi x99 gaming 9 ack with i7 5930k and g.skill 2400 ram
got my corsair ax1200i
so my problems i have been working on this all night near enough but today we have progress.
so problem is when i put ram in slot 1 would not post debug 04/55/60 no keyboard or signal to monitor. so i have finally got it working and got into the bios by put just one stick in slot 5. tried all 4 sticks in slot 5 but one failed at 6f so i think now one stick is faulty. but back to main problem with slot one.
once i had it booting up i switched off system and added 1 stick in slot one.
and it would not post debug 04/55/60.
so do i ram it or do you think bios update will fix this problem thanks in advanceLast night the exact same problem occurred to my Gaming 9 ACK.
Board worked flawlessly for three months with a 5960X processor, quad channel G.Skill 3.33 memory ( 16gb- 4x4 ) and four msi GTX980 gaming in quad sli mode.
Turned off the pc last night, and today, upon start the pc did not boot.
04-55-60-04 and all over again.
Memory modules are populated in slots 1-3-5-7. After several try and error efforts, slot 7 is blocking the system from booting. All four modules checked and are fine.
Removed module in slot 7 and booted. No problem there.
After entering windows 7 environment, a second even bigger surprise surfaced.
NO SLI. Device manager sees only gtx980 in slot 1 and nothing else.
New tests.
Only pci-e slot 1 works. All others are non functional.
So I am with an 8000$ pc, which works with 12gb triple channel memory and one VGA.
Obviously motherboard has gone south.
What now ??? -

MSI 970 Gaming + AMD FX-8350
Hello,
I want to upgrade my computer and by searching around I stumbled upon the new MSI 970 Gaming mainboard. I'm really looking forward to the isolated audio PCB and even the ramdisk software integrated in the MSI Command Center would be nice to have.
But I want to upgrade to an FX-8350, too.
Officially the FX8350 has a TDP of 125 Watt. But I know that it can draw more, even without overclocking. At least 140 Watt under certain circumstances, e.g. when using burn-in tools like Prime95.
I heard of problems with a few 970 chipset mainboards, when used with power demanding CPUs like the FX8350. They usually start throttling, if the TDP exceeds a certain limit. Avoiding an early death of the mainboard, caused by the overheating of the used MOSFETs. As far as I know the throttling isn't always an issue with mainboards with 'bigger' chipsets, like the 990FX, since they usually support a higher TDP.
The 'FX8350-issue' is known for quite a while, so I'm not sure if it sill applies to the new '970 Gaming' mainboard. Besides the 'military class 4 components' nothing is said about the used components, e.g. something about the power phase, which could give somewhat of a hint.
Now what would you say, based upon your experience? Do you think that the new '970 gaming' is a viable option for the FX8350? Or should I buy a mainboard with a 'bigger' chipset, like the MSI 990FXA-GD65? And if you say 'yes' to the 970 Gaming, would it be still a viable option if I want to overclock the FX8350 (not sure if I'll do it).Thank you both for sharing your thoughts.
@Nichrome: You're right that the mobo is vital. So getting a 990FX just makes sense. It's just because the hardware features of the 970 Gaming are just so good. Nice onboard sound, integrated headphone amplifier, nice network card, etc. It's mouth-watering so to speak I just need to be certain
@flobelix: I hoped that someone would say that, being it the last chapter of AM3+, they would make a better thermal design.
I'll think I have to give it a bit more thought. Or probably wait a bit until something is said about the thermal design. It's just that I really like the hardware features of the 970 Gaming
Again thank you! -
Help: new MSI 970a-g46 not booting.
hello.
i searched this forum before posting but couldn't find a solution that worked, so i thought i'd post my issue and see if y'all could help. basically, after installing the mobo and all the parts, powering on the machine does nothing but spin the fans and illuminate phase 1 CPU light for a split second. then nothing. no beeps, no further activity.
i just purchased brand new:
MSI 970A-G46
AMD FX 8-Core
Ballistix 4GB DDR3 PC3-12800 (1 stick)
Diablotek EVO ATX midtower.
and i'm using these my old parts:
Themaltake Purepower 500 ATX 12V 2.0
Gigabyte G Force 8 Series (GV-NX86S256H) graphics card
an IDE PCI card (where my 160gb maxtor with the OS connects)
two SATA drives seagate 500GB and a WD 2TB
up untill i shut down my old system to build this one, everything was working fine.
after reading the forum, i've tried moving my RAM from slot 2 to each other slot. trying to boot each time had same result.
i tried to reseat the CPU chip, but went no further than taking the fan off and making sure the CPU pins were not visible. then pushed down on the fan with some force while i put it back. trying to boot had the same result.
i've tried to clear the CMOS, but honestly not sure if i did it right. moved the jumper over, then waited a bit and moved it back. tried booting after that, same result.
i'm hoping someone has a quick fix that might keep me from pulling the mobo back out and starting again.
(side question: if i do have to start again, do i need more heatsync themal goo or will the stuff already on the CPU still work since it's never turned on?)
thanks in advance for any help. if i can provide more info on my setup, please let me know.
this is my first build all on my own and it's having predictable results.i searched and found i made a real rookie mistake. :(

2. Did you plug in the 4/8-pin CPU power connector located near the CPU socket? If the motherboard has 8 pins and your PSU only has 4 pins, you can use the 4-pin connector. The 4-pin connector USUALLY goes on the 4 pins located closest to the CPU. If the motherboard has an 8-pin connector with a cover over 4 pins, you can remove the cover and use an 8-pin plug if your power supply has one. This power connector provides power to the CPU. Your system has no chance of posting without this connector plugged in! Check your motherboard owners manual for more information about the CPU power connector. The CPU power connector is usually referred to as the "12v ATX" connector in the owners manual. This is easily the most common new-builder mistake.

Please Help! MSI 780Ti Gaming is not OC out the box as Advertised
Hi Guys
my new MSI 780T'i's arrived yesterday and the performance is great, only the core clock is 980MHz as apposed to the advertised 1020MHz
I did not receive a Gaming Branded disk either. However acording to the HARDOCP review: "If you do not install the software, then the card will default to "OC Mode" (with the frequencies described above.) In "Gaming Mode," the core clock drops to 980MHz with the boost clock at 1046MHz and in "Silent Mode," the core clock drops to 876MHz and the boost clock to 928MHz (the same as the reference card.) "
Out the box without the MSI drivers and latest Nvidia Drivers my card seems to be set in Gaming Mode???
Any help would be greatQuote from: J4K5 on 07-March-14, 18:08:16

HELP why wont my msi z97 gaming 9 mother board find my msi N770 graphics card ?
have built a new gaming PC from scratch based around the MSI Z97 gaming 9 motherboard and the MSI NVIDIA GTX 770 graphics card i have installed all the drivers for the mother board and everything seems to be ok i have then used live update to update all the drivers and bios.
i then installed the graphics card and it powers up and the fans start but my pc isn't recognising the fact that is exists helps pleaseRecheck your WiFi Bluetooth expansion module connection on the board.
Recheck your MB mounting in the case, i.e. errant standoffs. Perhaps test the board outside the case on a non conductive surface to ensure no potential short exists. Then retest with the WiFi plugged in. -
DIMM 1/2 stopped working on MSI Z97 Gaming 5, help!
Hello again!
Today I was trying out a different cooler for my i7 4790K, I mounted it and everything worked fine, but results were bad, so I decided to mount previous cooler again...
And here were the problem starts. After I mounted everything back (exactly following guide like before, thermal paste etc all done) my PC would not start the system nor BIOS.
I wondered what could cause it, so just to check a possibility, I unplugged one RAM module from DIMM 2 (they used to work in dual-channel at 2/4 DIMMs) and it suddenly started BIOS and system up normally.
Following this tip, I unmounted cooler's fan, because it covers DIMM 1 to check if it would work, and doesn't matter what memory I plug in DIMM 1 or 2, it won't work Doesn't work with any combination, so I can't actually use dual-channel right now, as only DIMM 3 and 4 work at the moment (both or alone). Any module plugged in 1/2 slots doesn't work.
All I see is that temperature monitor on my MSI Z97 Gaming 5 shows 10-55, 10-55 all the time, jumpy temps, everything works, but nothing loads. Just black screen, nothing. I work with 3/4 slots in single channel right now.
What the hell could happen? Please help me with this!
Edit: Is that possible I could move a CPU from a proper pin so it doesn't connect properly with DIMM 1 and 2? My cooler moved a bit before I mounted it properly. That's only thing that comes to my mind right now.Quote

HELP ! System freezes now with new MSI GeForce 6600GT AGP
Any/All help is greatly appreciated... this is driving me crazy.
Just installed a new MSI 6600GT AGP card. Windows/Apps work fine.. but system keeps freezing (disabling keyboard as well) when running certain games (3D?) like Medal of Honor, Prince of Perisa, SplinterCell. Also, freezes on 3DMark01SE benchmark software. What strange is 3DMark2K5 ran fine.. and returned a respectable score (3078). I've tried unistalling/re-installing latest MSI drivers (71.22), Nvidia's 66.93, and removing nVidia's GART drivers. I've also disconnected other hardware to allieviate PSU constraints. I've uninstalled/re-installed 6600GT card and molex power connector on card. My system specs are below:
Motherboard = ASUS Focus A7N8X-LA, BIOS=American Megatrend 3.07, Chipset = nVidia nForce2
MSI GeForce 6600GT 128 AGP
1Gb Ram
200Gb Maxtor 8mb buffer HD
ASUS E616P1 DVD-ROM
RICOH MP5240A DVD+RW
Enermax EG375P-VE SFMA PSU (has separate 12V rails)
Any suggestions as to what else to try? Getting ready to RMA this card.Quote from: andysue on 23-February-05, 07:34:53

Question
I just got a K8 series MB , and your A6600GT 128MB VGA , every time when I quit the 3D games ,
the system gave me a blue screen and then restart the system. I already update the VGA driver and MB
driver but no luck , what can I do?
Answer
If your system are WinXP + SP2 , We suggest you to disable DEP function.
Please follow below steps to disable the DEP. (See below picture)
1. First , Select “Advanced” under “System Properties”
2. Choose “Settings” under “Startup and Recovery”
3. Click “ Edit “ , then you can edit “boot.ini” file.
4. Change “/NoExecute=OptIn” as “/execute” (See below red square in step4)
5. Then save the boot.ini file and restart the system.
6. After rebooting , the DEP function will be disable.

OptOut DEP is enabled by default for all processes. Users can manually create
a list of specific applications which do not have DEP applied using
System in Control Panel. IT Pros and Independent Software Vendors
(ISVs) can use the Application Compatibility Toolkit to opt-out one or
more applications from DEP protection. System Compatibility Fixes
(“shims”) for DEP do take effect.
AlwaysOn This provides full DEP coverage for the entire system. All processes
always run with DEP applied. The exceptions list for exempting
specific applications from DEP protection is not available. System
Compatibility Fixes (“shims”) for DEP do not take effect. Applications
which have been opted-out using the Application Compatibility Toolkit
run with DEP applied.
AlwaysOff This does not provide any DEP coverage for any part of the system,
regardless of hardware DEP support. The processor does not run in
PAE mode unless the /PAE option is present in the boot entry.
