New music to iPod after 10.4.3 update?

This is curious. The first time I did an iPod sync following 10.4.3 about 300 tunes were transferred to my iPod. Odd thing is, these were not recently imported to iTunes. They should have been on the iPod all along.
Most odd. I did a safe boot after 10.4.3 (runs fsck on journaled HFS+, good maintenance trick). I wonder if a file system error was repaired.

I think (but may be wrong) that when songs are played with new versions of iTunes (newer than the version they were imported with), iTunes updates the file headers (tags), and so when syncing with an iPod the files themselves have changed and so are re-copied.
I have my purchased music playlist organised by Date Modified' and I regularly see 'ld' purchases at the bottom of the list as though they were bought today, whereas I only played them today!

  • No music on iPod after sync

I've been having a problem with syncing music to iPod gen4 and and iPod gen3 for some time now.  There are similar issues reported in a variety of questions on this forum:  after syncing, apparently successfully via iTunes, you disconnect the iPod and the iPod appears to have no music on it.  However, I have not been able to find any that present to me a working solution, nor have a found a discussions which shares particular details of the situation that I am experiencing.
After a "no music on iPod after sync" experience, the iPod will no longer function properly after this, and you have to put it into disk mode in order to connect to the computer and "do a restore."    The first time this happened, I didn't know about restoring, and actually discarded the iPod (a gen 3) and replaced it with my first gen 4.  Now I have an additional gen 4 (my 2nd), plus I also purchased a used gen 3 to replace the one I threw away.   Each of these three devices has experienced the problem, and I can get the device functioning again after restore.   All the devices seem to be in good working shape and serve me fine; I do not believe that any of them has a hardware problem such as failing hard drive etc.
The problem of "no music on iPod after sync" can be created in a repeatable fashion by choosing the appropriate set of playlists to sync.  I visited an Apple Store genius bar twice now to discuss the issue, and the conclusion was that there possibly was a "corrupt file" that was causing the problem.  However, I can also reliably sync the music by splitting it into smaller pieces.  For example, suppose I have a group of 20 playlist folders, and I choose to sync the first 10.  This can be done without problem.  If I then choose to sync the last 10 but without the first 10, this also can be done without problem.   However, if I sync all 20 together, then I get the "no music" screen on the iPod after the sync.   So I can load and play all the music files involved with my problem.  What seems to be associated with the occurrence of a "no music" event is the volume of songs that I sync.
I am working with a large number of audio files organized into a large number of playlists arranged in a somewhat large number of playlist folders, some nested inside others.  I suspect that a cause of the problem may be the large number of files and/or playlists and/or folders.
For instance, in my latest experience, I worked with a collection of files that I have sitting all together in one playlist folder, that itself sits inside a higher level playlist folder..  In this collection there are 4358 "songs" (the audio files aren't actually music) occupying 1.68 GB of memory. So I have one playlist folder (level 1, let's say) that contains within it a playlist (sub)folder (level 2) that has within it 36 playlist folders (level 3), each with a set of playlists inside that together account for all 4358 songs, without any repetitions of the songs between playlists. Some of the playlist folders contain as many as 206 playlists.  The playlists vary in the number of songs they contain; I think there are some with just one or two, and I now there are some with at least 32 songs.
Anyway, with the above described collection, I can sync the first half of the set of level 3 playlist folders without problem.  I can sync the second half of the level 3 playlist folders without problem.  But if I sync all together, I have problems.
Any ideas as to what's going on here?

Verify you have the itunes/ipad music tab set to sync music and the correct playlists selected.

  • Can't sync music on Ipod after formatting

I recently formatted my computer and so, lost Itunes. I installed it all over again. No problem until then. I put my music and videos from my Ipod (Fifth generation, 30go) on my computer and then on my new Itunes. Doing this, I lost over 500 songs and about 50 videos, who knows why, but that isn't the main problem. My problem is that now, I can't sync new music on my Ipod.
Also, when I plug my Ipod on my computer, the "Do not disconnect" sign appears automatically and stays there until I manually eject my Ipod. Before the formatting, the "Do not disconnect" would only appear when I was syncing something on my Ipod, and would disappear right after.
Other minor problem, time on the clock is wrong. For exemple, it showed 12:30 AM when it was 20:00.
    Can anybody help me?

just had about the same thing happened to me,downloaded a few songs, went to sync them and lost about 400 songs that were already installed....now itunes says computer is not authorized to play!

  • Can't sync new songs to iPod after hard drive replacement.

A few months ago, I had my hard drive replaced on my Windows Vista laptop. So I backed up all my files including iTunes to an external drive. When the new hard drive was installed I restored the iTunes library back. Yesterday was the first time since the restore that I purchased new music from the iTunes store. I bought 6 new songs. I can see the new songs in the iTunes library but when I sync the iPod the new songs do not transfer over to the iPod. Any ideas on how I can fix this problem? Thanks.

I found the link below and it worked. I added the songs manually.

  • No music in ipod after sync

How do I get my music to show up on my iPod after syncing?  Had no problems until I connected to a PC (silly me!).  Now, iTunes says it is syncing to my iPod, but the music doesn't show. I've restored, reset, etc. All help would be greatly appreciated!

From this article: iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting
These alerts might occur when trying to authorize iTunes or during launch when iTunes checks for authorization information.
Install the latest iTunes from apple.com/itunes/download/
    Remove the SC Info folder.
If that does not resolve the issue, see iTunes: "Error 42408" or "Error 42404" after upgrading to iTunes 9.0.3.
    should I restore?
Yes.  At this point it seems as though the iPod's software is corrupt and a restore should correct that.

  • Downloading new music to IPOD

Okay....someone please tell me why I keep losing my prior music downloads when ever I download new music? For saving space on my computer I always remove the music I download to Itunes is this why? Is it possible to save what I have downloaded on my IPod when I download new music?

When the iPod is set to sync automatically, music that isn't in iTunes will be deleted from it when it is plugged in. You can turn this off by setting the iPod to sync manually.

  • Updating new music to ipod

I have bought new music and videos on itunes and when I plug my usb into my pc my music update shows a warning that the music cannot be updated b/c my computer is not authorized to play the music...it is frustrating b/c I spent money on itunes and can't download the music onto my ipod.

Have you tried playing the purchased items using ITunes, whihc will authorize the computer and thus allow transfer to the IPOD.

  • USB Port on my comp. doesn't work... how can I add new music to IPOD?

The USB Port doesn't connect anymore, it's broke on my pc, so I can't change any music on my IPOD. Is there any other way I can synch new music to it? IPOD will charge when I connect it to pc but that's all.

Your laptop has a touchpad, doesn't it? If it does, I would suggest reinstalling the USB controllers.

  • ITunes Unknown Error -48 - no music on iPod after a restore

I did the 5 R's after having "freezing up" issue with my iPod - went in to sync iTunes with iPod after the restore step, and know I am getting this error message. I did a search and can't find a solution for -48, or even what it means. The songs will sync to about #40 or so, then it stops completely and ejects my iPod as the error message comes up. Please help - no music on my iPod.

Received no help from this board - took it back into store and they said it was a hard drive error ands replaced the iPod under my 3-year plan. Always buy that. I have needed it twice.

  • Getting music from Ipod after formatting hard drive

I had to format my hard drive recently...
The music is still on my ipod how do i get it off and into the reinstalled program... music from ipod -> ipod program
I'm not happy about the prospect of losing my music and all of my pictures

For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
    SharePod is also freeware.
If you copied photos to your iPod using the full resolution option, enable disk use, open your iPod in "my computer" in Windows or Finder on a Mac, open the photos folder then open the "full resolution" folder and drag the photos out of that folder to your desktop. For enabling disk use look here.
    Disk Use.
If you only copied the photos as thumbnails, you can't do this so you'll need a program such as this one.
    CopyTrans Photo
