New Nano DO NOT DISCONNECT

I connected my new IPod Nano to the usb port in my G5 and I have a warNing "Do not disconnect" on the screen.
What does this mean?
How do I progress.
Previously I had a Shuffle on this machine, but was robbed by a gang of 10 nasty guys...hence the update to the Nano. I didn't buy the policy that allows me unlimited support calls. Can I buy that now...after the fact.
Thanks,
Dianne

after syncing with itunes, click on the ipod icon in your play list (on the left hand side) and then click the "eject ipod" button on the lower right corner. This will eject the ipod from the computer and the "do not disconnect" will go back to a menu...

  • New iPod Nano - Do Not Disconnect

I have an iPod and a new iPod Nano connected to my PC. The iPod message on iTunes is "Update Complete, OK to Disconnect". The iPod Nano message on iTunes is "Update Complete" and the screen on the Nano still says Do Not Disconnect. Is this normal? Do I need to eject the Nano each time?

    hi Mi Ja!
The iPod message on iTunes is "Update Complete, OK to Disconnect". The iPod Nano message on iTunes is "Update Complete" and the screen on the Nano still says Do Not Disconnect. Is this normal? Do I need to eject the Nano each time?
i had this happening to me for a month with attractive beast ("Update complete, OK to disconnect") and mauve ("Update Complete" etc), before i worked out what was going on.
next time you have the nano plugged in, head into your itunes "ipod" preference tab, and check to see if you have "Enable disk use" checked. if you do, uncheck it and click okay. after a moment or two, the nano should be behaving like the ipod.
(this will also happen if you have the nano in manual mode. if you switch back to automatic synching, on my girls "enable disk use" is left selected ... you need to uncheck that "enable disk use" box as well.)
hope this is all that is happening to you ... keep us posted.

  • Brand new nano, will not sync, still says do not disconnect

I have a brand new nano that does not seem to want to sync with my itunes. Each time I plug it in it asks me to name the iPod, which I do, then it says updating, do not disconnect. So once itunes is done updating the nano still says do not disconnect. So everytime I have to eject it properly and it never updates with the information from my itunes. It also has a bunch of orange space that it says is being used on the capacity bar and there is no information on the iPod. I have restored it back to factory settings and no luck... I have also taken it in to the Apple Genius Bar and they said it wad fixed and it wasn't so then they gave me a new one and it has the same problem...HELP!

  • My new nano will not stay connected to my computer.

I recieved a 6 gen nano from the 1 gen replacement program.  I completely removed all apple software from my system, and downloaded the newest versions to replace them before plugging in the new nano.  When I plugged in the new nano, the computer recognized it for a few seconds, saw it was an ipod and started the registration process, but then started disconnecting and connecting the nano every few seconds.  Now itunes does not recognize the nano at all.  I ruled out the usb ports and the cable as the problem, so it has to be the nano with the issues.  Please help, at least my old 1 gen still worked!  Does anyone have any suggestions for fixing this?

I have the EXACT same problem.  I believe also it is the NANO.

  • Nano Do Not Disconnect!

Having problems with Do Not Disconnect, as soon as I connect my Nano to the computer it goes into Do Not Disconnect. iTunes pops up and says that update is completed, but Do Not Disconnect never goes away. Been using the Nano for months now and this problem just started. Tried repairing itunes, tried resetting the ipod, have already completed the update as well. Noticed problem after trying to manual add and remove songs off ipod (which I never got to work), have switch setting back to automatic update songs and still having problems. I have ejected ipod for in itunes, but still shows Do Not Disconnect. I have also restarted my computer several times with no luck. What am I doing wrong?

Okay so I guess my problem is not with the Do Not Disconnect screen, but with not being able to remove songs from my ipod. I tried selecting manully update songs and them unchecking the songs I did not want on my ipod, but when I do this and hit update it ups dates real quickly and nothing I deselected is removed from my ipod. Am I trying to remove songs from my ipod the wrong way? Don't want to delete the song from my library just want to remove from the ipod until i want to load it back on again. Help!

  • Lost old nano and new nano will not sychronize with my itunes

I recently bought an new nano ipod after my old one stopped working. I am trying to synchronize the new one and it is not working. What should I try?

That could be a solution. Are you getting any error messages or error codes? Is the iPad recognized in iTunes? Does anything happen at all when you try to Sync? Can you provide more details?
You can try a very simple first step, quit iTunes, reboot your PC and restart the iPad.

  • New nano problem with disconnecting

I haven't been able to disconnect my nano without the "do not disconnect" disappearing. I eject the nano using the button on iTunes, but the disco message doesn't disappear. I have an ipod and shuffle, none have this problem.

I sorta have the same problem. I connected my nano to the comp then i installed the disk for itunes. But i already had itunes for my sony mp3. They were asking to update it. After completing the installation, they asked to restart the computer. so i clicked yes but my ipod was still connected with "Do not Disconnect" flashing on it. Now it completely doesnt work. Doesnt charge, turn on, flash anything. What do i do?

  • New Nano will not be recognized by Itunes

My Nano is new (Christmas) and Windows XP will connect, but the connection will not show up in Itunes. We have the lastest version of Itunes. It does recognize my dad's Nano. Please reply to [email protected] since I have trouble on these forums.
    Thanks

It is unlikely that two consecutive iPods have the same problem, so let's assume there is nothing wrong with the iPod for now.  There is no systemic problem with iPod nano 7th gen and iTunes 12.  Even my ancient 3rd gen iPod "classic" from 2003 works fine with iTunes 12 (and the latest OS X).
Since your other devices connect to iTunes, your OS and iTunes installation seem to be fine.
Does the iPad or iPhone use the same docking cable (not the newer "Lightning" cable)?  You want to rule out a faulty cable as the cause.  There are separate connection points on the connector for power and data, so it is possible for it to charge from a connection, but not connect for data, due to a faulty cable.
So (if you can rule out faulty cable), that leaves a problem with the USB port.  It charges, so it seems to supply enough power.  But because it shows only the battery status icon, it's like you are connecting it to a USB power adapter; there is no data connection either to iTunes or the Mac in general.
As a test, shut down (power off) the iMac and disconnect all USB devices (including any hubs).  You can leave standard USB keyboard/mouse connected, if used.  Do this to Reset the iPod
Reset your iPod - Apple Support
Start up the Mac, run iTunes, and connect the iPod to a direct USB port, by itself.  Any difference?
If that does not help, try putting the iPod in Disk Mode
Putting iPod into Disk Mode - Apple Support
Then, connect it to the Mac and run iTunes.  Any indication in iTunes, on the Mac in general, or on the iPod's screen, that there is a data connection between iPod and computer?

  • New nano will not sync tv shows

2 days ago i purchased a new 8mg nano and then purchased 5 tv shows from itunes, all of my music syncs fine, but not one of my tv shows will sync, i can view them on the computer, i have all the options checked to sync them but i keep getting unable to sync file not found(50). I just seach this discussion board, remapped my network drive, now my computer doesn't recongnize the nano at all.. it still connects to itunes but I can't see it as an external drive. I spent over an hour at the new apple store and they suggest i great a new unit. so i did.it's doing the same thing. 2 nano's in 2 days.. not able to sync tv shows.

I am having the same problem - everything is loading and downloading fine but when it comes to syncing tv shows it does not do it after repeated tries
it even caused my ipod nano 4GB to malfunction and i had to restore it
I am very dissapointed with this malfunction and I HOPE SOMEONE FROM APPLE CAN REPLY AND HELP ME TROUBLESHOOT THIS PROBLEM
IF NOT I HAVE A MAJOR COMPLAINT FOR APPLE AND THEIR IPOD NANO!!!!!

  • The new Nano does not hold it's place in a song.

New software came out today but this problem has not been fixed. This is what happens if I stop the Nano in mid-song (or movement) and wait perhaps more than half an hour to resume. I press play and see where I was in the song that was playing. The song and timer bar are where they were.
But as the music actually starts there is a skip to the next track! What is more, if you try to go back to the previous track, it will skip over it and go back two. If you move forward, it will skip ahead two. It seems impossible to find your way back to where you stopped. No iPod I had before this displayed this problem. I don't think my 80G Video iPod has this issue.
This problem combined with the main Music listing of the iPod in iTunes not holding your user choices make the current experience a little less than it was.
But there is gapless playback. That does count for a lot. Sigh.

OK. Since no one replied I restored my Nano 2. It still does this. Can anyone say theirs doesn't? Stop the music halfway or anyplace inside a track. Let the iPod rest for a few hours. Hit Play again. You see the song you were on and the place where you were. It is in Pause mode. Hit Play again to continue the song. At this point mine skips to the beginning of the next track. If I left click the wheel, it skips over the previous to the one before that.
This does not happen with my 80G Video iPod. It holds it's place and the music continues.
This is an 8G black Nano.

  • Ipod nano will not disconnect, another app using a file

when i try to eject my nano, it says another application is using a file. what do i do, or where is this file,

Daggum, b. That's my idea, too.
Also possible is that we are using something like the google desktop thingie or somesuch that indexes the drive for list as you type searching (you know, in a clumsy attempt to imitate spotlight in OS X Tiger). If that is the case, then the drive will not be removeable until the index app is closed out.
Do we have something like that running?

  • Ipod nano: do not disconnect, ipod screen on itunes locked

My ipod nano was working fine originally but now, the ipod screen on itunes has a little padlock by the remaining disk space bar and all of my music is not available to click on which means it wont let me delete anything. I would be grateful if anybody could point me in the direction to fixing this. Thanks

In iTunes preferences, iPod section, do you have iTunes currently set to automatically update the nano's music playlists when connected?
This setting will cause iTunes to 'lock' the iPod in the way that you are seeing as it is managing the iPod's contents for you and does not expect you to delete stuff yourself. Selecting the manual update option in iTunes / iPod preferences will remove the 'lock' - just depends on your preference as to how automated you want the iTunes / iPod synchronisation to be.
