New nano, endless on/off loop!  INSANITY!

So I bought into all the Nike+ hype and bought a new 3rd Gen nano.
I get home and before I open the box, I open iTunes and upgrade to version 7.6; next I plug the iPod in and register. Everything is going smoothly.
Now I'm at my iPod's home screen telling me there is a software update for my nano. I install the new software and the nano dies--iTunes doesn't recognize the device and XP no longer recognizes the device. 10 seconds later my new nano turns back on and shows me the grey apple screen. 5 seconds later, it turns back off. This continues in an endless loop. w t f.
I have tried resetting (center button + menu), connecting the iPod to a different computer with iTunes installed, and every other support topic I have found related to my problem. Nothing works!
So much for updated software

I too have the same problem and it is only one month old (nano) I found this on the website: (disconnect ipod), turn hold button on and off the press and hold menu and select button, when the apple goes off and on quickly hold down the select button and the play button until you see the disk mode screen with a check mark. then follow the restore instructions, search on the support address for "putting the ipod in disk mode"
GOOD LUCK

Don't know.  Possible solution in the user manual:  iPod Manuals and/or Apple's Knowledge Base

  • Got a new nano, and it synced all music of my daughters music.  can i get them off my nano

I received a new nano and when I plugged it in, all of my daughter's music synced.  Can I get rid of all that music from my nano?

Are you two using the same iTunes library?
How you delete content from your iPod depends on how it is set up to receive content from your iTunes library whether that be via automatic syncing or manual management.
For automatic syncing, you must reconfigure your settings so that the album/tracks/content you wish to remove is no longer configured to sync to your iPod.  For example, if the Sync only checked songs and videos option is enabled from under the iPod's Summary tab, make sure all the tracks for this album do NOT have a tick mark next to them in your iPod.  Then resync your iPod with iTunes.
If that isn't the case, you'll want to look at the iPod's Music configuration tab.  You can access this tab by selecting your iPod under Devices. This should bring you to theSummary tab over to the right.  Look for the Music tab along the top and select it.  Here you can configure how and what music syncs to your device.  If you make any changes to this tab, be sure to hit the Apply button in the lower right hand corner to sync the updated changes to your device.
Otherwise, if you manually manage your iPod's contents, you must manually remove content from it.  You can do this by plugging your iPod in and clicking the small black triangle next to your iPod from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes.  This will open up a submenu of content that is indented underneath the name of your device, so go ahead and click on Music (or whatever content you are wanting to remove).  Locate the track or tracks/content you wish to delete. Highlight them and hit the Delete key or choose Edit -> Delete.
Otherwise, if you are using different iTunes library, simple connect it to your own iTunes library and restore it to factory settings.  To do this, select your iPod under Devices in the left hand pane of iTunes and click the Restore button that appears to the right under the iPod's Summary tab.

  • New Nano! Getting songs off old ipod

I recently purchased the new Nano (PINK!). I currently own an ipod mini. I am giving the mini to my mom and keeping the nano. I want to put all the songs that were on my mini onto my nano, but I don't think it'll work. Is there anything special I need to do? I'm afraid when I hook up the nano it will completely clear my itunes account.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
If your music is in iTunes on your computer, then you just need to install the latest version of iTunes...

And connect your iPod up to your computer.

  • Nano Died - Got a New because of Insurance - Computer Not Findng New Nano

My Nano recently died. I had an insurance policy with the retailer. I took my old one in and they gave me a new nano...but, nothing else...no software, etc.
Can I use the software I got 5 months ago? If so, what the heck is going on? I can't do anything to get my computer to recognize this new ipod.
I've restarted the computer, uninstalled and reinstalled ipod and i tunes software, followed all the instructions I found through technical support, and I can't get the new nano to work.
Specifically, after all the above, I turn on my computer, turn off my Norton security, connect the ipod, and the nano screen reads "Do no disconnect" but I don't hear the nano hard drive turning. itunes doesn't load automatically like it should.
when I run the updater, it asks me to plug in the ipod though it's already plugged in. Eventually the program just freezes.
If I click safely disconnect the device, not only does "Apple IPOD USB Device" show up but also something I'v'e never seen before..."Generic Volume - (E:)" When I try to select disconnect "Generic Volume - (E:)" I get an error message and then my computer whigs out.
I'm using a relatively new laptop and have NEVER had issues with my computer recognizing my old Nano until it died. I'm relatively computer savvy but have literally been working on this for 5 hours.
What is going on? Did I get a faulty replacement? Any help would be appreciated before I throw this thing across the room and/or return it back to the retailer. Thank you!

I recently got an Ipod and experienced somewhat the same as you. I also did what the article about laptops and Power Management with the USB ports said, but this made no difference. Actually I did all kinds of things as suggested by Apple, but neither solved my problem of not being able to run the Ipod Updater and hence iTunes.
Eventually I followed another piece of quite common advice in the forums - I formatted the Ipod myself. Then I ran the most recent Ipod Updater and chose to Restore instead of update. After restoring I started iTunes manually and it picked up the Ipod and let me do the final setup.
I don't use iTunes to manage my music so I specifically selected the option to have iTunes not start automatically and have it recognize the Ipod as a disk/drive, but I suppose you can set it up differently.
In this and other forums there are several posts about how to format the Ipod and the advice I chose to follow was:
    1. Put the Ipod in Disk Mode
    2. "Kill" the service Ipodservice.exe using Task Manager
    3. Format the Ipod using a tool called HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool. Set the file system to FAT32 and choose Quick format.
NB! When I click 'Safely disconnect the device' I also have an item called "Generic volume ". From what I understand it tells you that the Ipod has been identified by Windows as a separate drive, just like any other USB drive would.

  • Does anyone know if there is an adapter for the new nano iPod to connect to a FS-2 iPort?

Does anyone know if there is an adapter for the new nano iPod to connect to a FS-2 iPort?

IIRC the very original Bose Dock had the old 30 pin wiring and was designed initially for the iPod
If you have that version then you will need a converter to the later wiring ( sans firewire) as in Scosche .
and then the 30 pin to lightning Apple adapter
In theory it should work but who knows.
If you have a later one which already works with current devices then just the lightning adapter
It is important to get the genuine Apple adapter I have several and all work fine in several scenarios

Unlock iTunes / get write permission

Wanted to upload some songs from my iTunes Library to new Nano.
Hooked it up, went through the promps, choose two playlists to load, and before we could say oops, we saw that it was infact loading the entire library. We had no way of stopping the process so we unplugged it.
Now when I try to open iTunes it I get an error message :"The iTunes Library file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file."
I verified permissions and repaired them. No luck.
    Help! Please!

i'm assuming the Error code HRESULT: 0x800763b3 means something and is the solution but where can i find the answer or am i going about this all wrong?
Yeah, this 0x800763b3 is a slightly unusual one. Normally with these, the iTunes install error code matches the error codes that people get on their Windows Update failures. But for the last two 0x800763b3s I've been involved in on an iTunes install (Liv and someone else), the 0x800763b3 on the iTunes install has been associated with an 0x8007000b on the Windows Update failures. (Liv's 643s were pretty much "generic" error message codes for Windows Update failures, which could mean anything. So that's why I/we went after the 0x8007000b, which has some Microsoft documentation on fixes.)
Doublechecking on other symptoms of your situation ... is your Windows Update not opening at all when you try to launch it?
If so, when you click "Turn Windows features on or off" in the "Programs and Features Control Panel" item, is the Windows Features dialog box empty? (No features are shown?)
(If we can't get the codes from the windows update failures, we might be able to make some progress if we can identify other symptoms that you're getting. I know some documentation for some of these codes that mentions the Windows Features thing as a possible additional symptom.)

  • Can't move songs from library folder to new Nano

Just got a Nano and want to load songs to play for my newborn baby girl. I have an existing iTunes library of mp3s - When I try to move some into new playlists on my Nano they don't transfer. Sometimes I get that circle with a slash, other times when dragging them over the new Nano playlist folders they seem drop-abble but dont copy over.
Is there something I'm not understanding about copy-protection.
Anyone's guidence, suggestions or help is most appreciated!!

The easiest way to get tracks off your iPod will be to search VersionTracker for "iPod". You'll find a number of utilities that can transfer your tracks and your playlists from your iPod back to your PC.
It's also possible to do this manually, but the procedure is rather involved. If you're interested, though, see this thread:
    MacMuse: Computer crashed
Forum Tip: Since you're new here, you've probably not discovered the Search feature available on every Discussions page, but next time, it might save you time (and everyone else from having to answer the same question multiple times) if you search a couple of ways for a topic before you post a question.
    Regards.

  • Transferring from my original iPod onto my new Nano

I bought a new iPod nano 4GB today and before hooking it up to my computer I had a few questions:
    1) Can I transfer all my music from my original iTunes onto my new Nano?
    2) Can I do this off-line?
    3) I have my computer from college with over 3GB of music and it is operated by my original iTunes; can I get music off of the old computer?

If your old computer meets the requirements for iTunes 7 or later and the 2nd gen nano...and you still have access to the old computer in order to connect your ipod to then yes to all 3 questions. If you can't get online you won't be able to update your iPod firmware from the old computer and you won't be able to purchase any new songs from iTunes...but you can get what's already in the library

  • New Nano - battery indicator faulty?

I just set up my new Nano and charged it overnight through my laptop's USB - it charged up fine and the battery icon showed up as a full green battery. It ran down over about 5 hours. When I connected back to the laptop the screen showed that the battery was recharging for about 5 minutes and then the battery icon showed up as "half green" indicating a partial charge. Within minutes the battery icon turned to gray and a note appears on the screen stating "No battery power." Is there something that has gone wrong with the battery? Is it possible that the USB connection never did charge the iPod and I was running on the stored power that came with the unit? I have already downloaded the Nano update on-line and tried resetting my unit.
Does anyone know of an actual help line that I can call for advice on this - I have scanned the on-line help modules and not found anything that addresses this problem. Does Apple provide real live customer service????

Dave- Exact same thing happened to me....my guess is that your Nano is fine, but you may not have enough juice coming out of all your laptop ports. Let me explain...
When I first got my nano, the battery was already nearly charged, but I decided to make sure it had a "full" charge just to make sure, so I connected it through my laptop's USB port (it indicated it was taking a charge for about 20 miuntes, then it showed the "fully charged" battery icon). It then played for a good 12 hours until I let it run out.
When I went to re-charge it through the same port, I noticed it was not properly charging (i.e., it didn't show me the "charging" icon), and even though it was plugged in for 5 hours, it only played about 5 minutes of play before it died. My guess was that the first time I was charging the Nano, it wasn't really charging it.....it was already fully charged at the factory. Instead it was simply taking just enough power to set off the Nano's "charging" battery icon. So then, when the battery was fully discharged, the USB port didn't actually have enough power to truly re-charge a fully depleted battery.
I'm saying this because when I charged it with the A/C adaptor (a third party product designed for the mini and the Nano) or through my home computer's "charged" USB port, it indicated it was "charging" right away. I also noticed that it only did this with the two front USB ports , but not the back (again, when I plugged it into a port that wasn't "charged", the battery icon wouldn't appear).
So my guess is to try using an a/c adaptor (which is good to have anyway, since you may not always be at a computer) or try testing out different ports on your PC to see which one carries a charge.

  • Problems using new nano during workouts

I bought my new nano for more capacity than my 1st gen, which still works fine. But the touch screen does not work as well for me as the clickwheel did. The best location for the nano is clipped to my waistband, and I can operate the clickwheel by feel, to change volume or skip or repeat selections, which I do frequently during long workouts. But the touchscreen goes to sleep, and in any case I can't find the controls without taking off the new nano and looking at the screen. Sweaty clothes rubbing over it also actuate the touchscreen menus sometimes. So I've given up on using it and have gone back to using my old nano. Too bad, Apple presents the new nano as a workout tool but it certainly doesn't work that way for me. I'll try to figure out some way to get rid of it and get a slightly older refurb-ed nano with a clickwheel.

I'm sitting at my computer right now with my 6th Generation Nano (Product Red) and my Ultimate Ears headphones and that adapter. I'm able to skip to the next song, return to the start of that song, pause, hear voiceover, raise the volume, lower the volume, ...Works like a champ and I've never had a problem with sweat getting into the switches when I used it with my 3rd Generation Shuffle OR with my 6th Generation Nano.
I do suggest you use Google and find a plastic docking plug for the Nano when you use it while working out. It says that about the adapter because that is what it was developed for. It will work just fine with the Etymotic.

  • My new nano keeps repeating same song...how do I get it to go to next on list or at least duffle?

My new nano keeps repeating same song...how do I get it to go to next on list or at least duffle?

I have an iPod Nano 7th generation and I know of a couple of ways to shuffle the playlists.  When you select the Playlist, from Home>Music>Playlists, there is a shuffle feature at the top of the screen that will shuffle that individual playlist.  Also, if you tap the screen quickly while the one song is repeating, a menu will come up with the ability to select repeat, which is the icon on the left.  I'm guessing if you were to tap the repeat button it would turn the repeat feature off.  Another way to shuffle is to shake the Nano while the screen is lighted, and a song is playing.  This shaking will shuffle ALL playlists.  Of course you need to have the shuffle feature activated which you can do from Home>Settings>Music and making sure the "Shake to shuffle feature" is ON.

  • Why does my ipod nano keep shutting off?

My new Ipod nano keeps shutting off after about a minute when playing music. It is fully charged.

  • Why does my NEW ipod keep shutting off in less than 30 seconds of play time

Rcv'd ipod at Christmas; was setup in spanish when I first turned on & thought that was weird; had issues trying to download version 10 of itunes but after two days it finally went through successfully; charged for two days; used for first time today and it keeps shutting off after 30-90 seconds of playtime; is this a common issue or do I need to send back?

No, push the headphones firmly all the way in. The headphone jack on new nanos is very tight, make sure the plastic on the headset jack is flush with the body of the nano.

  • New nano won't play songs in linear order

The shake to shuffle is turned off in settings and I am not inadvertently selecting shuffle to play. Is there some other setting I've overlooked to turn shuffle off?
Where it is showing up most maddeningly is while playing a three-hour radio program I download. Each hour is a "song" and iTunes sorts them by date/hours 1, 2 &3. I want to listen in order by date and hour. Nano wants me to listen to hour 1 from 5/23/13, random song, hour 3 from 6/10/13, hour 2 from 4/20/13...you get the idea. It happens whether I'm allowing to go to the next song on it's own or if I'm hitting the FF button. I'd be really nuts if I was trying to listen to an audiobook and it was skipping around like this. What am I doing wrong?
New nano is 7th gen 1.0.2.
    Thanks.
