New Nano, old macbook - help

Is there any way to download itunes from iPad to iPod Nano?  My mac book is apparently too old and my son's new iPod Nano won't register and itunes won't update as os x version is needed and we don't have it.  Updating everything makes it a costly Nano.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You have an Early 2009 MacBook, so the upgrade will be cheap. iTunes 11 needs Mac OS X 10.6.8, so buy Snow Leopard > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Then, make a backup of your files, insert the disc and upgrade. The disc has got Mac OS X 10.6.3, so after upgrading, open  > Software Update to install the most recent version. After installing 10.6.8, open Software Update for a second time to update iTunes, so you will be able to use the iPod nano

  • Migrated to Macbook Air. Apps now on both new and old macbooks. How?

I have just used the migration software to tranfer to a late 2011 Macbook Air (Lion) from a late 2009 Macbook Pro (Snow Leopard). My intention is to sell my old Macbook Pro.
After migrating, I now have apps (ex. iLife, iWorks, Office, etc) that appear and work on both machines. I only purchased one copy of the software, so how does this work? I want to leave some software on the Macbook Pro for the person buying it. Can I have duplicates, and will they work on both machines simultaneously? Can I just uninstall the software I no don't want to "share"?
    Thanks!

Migration Assistant doesn't erase anything from the source computer. That is left for you to do. Yes, just delete the software from the old computer. Note: Some licenses permit software to be installed on multiple computers but limit its use to one at a time while others permit installation on only one computer. Still others might permit installation on several computers. Confusing....

  • New nano - old i-tunes

Just connected new nano. Says I need itunes 7.4.2. Went to download. Site unavailable. Can't disconnect. Hostage situation. Any idea when site will be available?

The site appears available to me from the link below. Have you tried since your post?

  • New nano, old itunes

I connected my new nano to the current version of itunes when I got it about a month ago. Since then, I have reinstalled operating system/softwear from original discs (OS X 10.4, iTunes 4.71). As I am attempting to figure out if my hard drive issues are softwear or hardwear related (all seemed to start after updating iTunes) I'm reluctant to update again. My nano's battery is wearing down, and I'm not sure what will happen when I connect it. I had it set to manual updating. All I really want to do is charge the battery. Any guesses?

I understand that, but among our friends and relatives, we do not have any problem with iTunes 7. Have you try the following
    Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
    iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". The scroll wheel will not function while in diagnostic mode. For further details on Diagnostic mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/
Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”

  • New Nano, Old Troubles

I just got my amazing 8GB black iPod Nano. It is so small, and at the same time, so big. I have a question, that I kwno has been answered before, but I am to lazy to look it up. So, how do you sync your new iPod to your _old and same iTunes_?

It should update your new Nano so I'm not sure what the problem is. Can you be more specific when you say "nothing happens"? Do you mean there is no message on the Nano screen saying it is syncing? No indication on the computer at all that you plugged in a Nano or that you clicked the sync button? No error message?
I assumed you've tried restarting your Mac as well as resetting your Nano. Is this a brand new Nano? If nothing works, it would be time to give Apple a call.

  • IWeb, new iMac, old MacBook, comments, sharing, etc

    Hi,
I made a page on my new iMac and:
    1. I want people to be able to comment on my blog but do not know how to enable that or if it is possible
    2. I want to be able to work on it using my MacBook. I just tried and discovered that iWeb does not seem to be on there anymore. Maybe it is because I upgraded to Leopard and iLife was erased at that time. Is it possible to extract the iWeb from my reboot disk from my MacBook and then work on the page I built using my iMac by transferring it through my MobileMe network?
Thanks for the help you offer,
    David

David ~ The following is from iWeb's Help viewer...
If you publish your site to MobileMe, you can let visitors post comments to your blog or podcast entries. These comments are visible to anyone who visits your website. You can also allow visitors to attach files (which other visitors can download) to their comments.
To allow visitor comments on your blog or podcast:
    • Select a blog or podcast page in the sidebar.
    • If the Blog & Podcast Inspector isn’t open, click Inspector in the toolbar (or choose View > Show Inspector), and then click the Blog & Podcast Inspector button.
    • In the Blog pane of the inspector, select “Allow comments.”
    • To permit visitors to attach files (such as images) to their comments, select “Allow attachments.”

You should have an iLife CD that came with your MacBook — reinstall iWeb from that.
...and then work on the page I built using my iMac by transferring it through my MobileMe network?
    See this Apple doc...

  • New nano/old library

My wife lost her 3 month old nano, I just ordered her a new one. Is there a way to just use her old library once the new one arrives?

Are you using one library and updating different playlists or do you have different Windows user accounts? If it's different accounts then log into Mom's and connect the iPod. How did you handle her last Nano? Whatever you did then you just need to do with the new one.

  • New Nano – Old Comp

    Hi Gang,
I just got a new 8GB ipod nano, and was heartbroken to discover that I could not use it with my ancient Win2K comp Why would Apple require that I upgrade my Microsoft OS? Shouldn't I be able to use my ipod with any 32-bit OS that supports USB? Besides upgrading to XP or Vista, what does Apple recommend that I do in order to enjoy this expensive, yet currently useless, piece of hardware?
    Thanks in advance guys!

Why would Apple require that I upgrade my Microsoft OS?
Newer versions of iTunes are required to communicate with newer iPods, and these versions aren't written for older OSes.
Shouldn't I be able to use my ipod with any 32-bit OS that supports USB?
Only as an external USB drive.

  • Video issues with new Nano, can anyone help?

I recently bought 'South Park' from the i-tunes store to play on my 3rd generation Nano. Unfortunately when i try to sync it with my nano it says 'video format not supported', other downloads work fine but i-tunes have provided no information when downloading tv shows. It feels like i am flying blind when downloading, is there anything i am doing wrong?

Did you by any chance try to convert video within itunes? There is a choice to do this. Also, you can also contact itunes customer service.

  • New Nano, Old Computer

So wife just bought a ipod nano but itunes won't recognize it, even though the computer itself does see it. Any workarounds to make itunes 9 see it and work with it? Can I reformat the nano into something that my OS (10.4.11) recognizes?

No, you will need to use your computer that has Snow Leopard on it that is listed in your settings.

  • New owner/old macbook

I have an older macbook, and just recieved SnowLeopard.
Thought I would have no problem but, there is a password on the computer from the previous owner.
    Now what?

Put your 10.6 install DVD into the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) and reboot. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option Key until the Install Disk shows up) until the apple shows up. That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Reset Password. After resetting the password use Startup Disk from the same menu to choose your hard drive for startup and restart.
