New nano ...... puzzling install

Trying to install ipod/itunes software .......
I am running winxp home sp2, seems to me the install is almost completed. But I'm getting a request for Scan.msi ?????
1. " The feature you are trying to use is on a cd-rom or other removable disk that is not available. "
2. Asks me to insert 'scan disc'
I have searched the ipod, the install disc and my pc there is no such animal. any ideas? When I try to cancel install darn thing gives me error 1706. No valid source could be found for product scan. The windows installer cannot continue. Now this is fine I don't want it to continue, but it is looping desperately looking for the scan disc. I do not want to end install the hard way, so please ....... any input would be greatly appreciated.

What is the exact message you are receiving? I did a google search on scan.msi and found this link:
http://forums.thatcomputerguy.us/index.php?showtopic=3607
I don't think it is an issue with iTunes, but perhaps a software conflict of some kind. The one link references an HP product... Do you have an HP printer/scanner? Perhaps a re-install of the drivers is what you need.
I'll keep digging on this, but if you can post more information about your PC and the software installed.

  • I have 10.5.8 and want to install the new itunes 10.7, in order to sync the new nano , but i am unable to.  Do I have to upgrade to snow leopard in order to sync new nano?

I have an imac (2009) with OS X 10.5.8 and i need to install the new itunes (10.7) in order to sync my new nano (7th generation).  Do I have to upgrade my software to Snow Leopard in order to run itunes 10.7?  How to I go about this?

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
Whilst Apple have withdrawn Snow Leopard from their stores, you can still get it from Apple by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE (if you are in the USA) and they will supply the SL DVD for $20 for a single user, or $30 for a family pack that covers up to 5 Macs.  You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion from the same number (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
If you are outside the US call your national Apple Helpline:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
If you're in the UK, use this number: 0871 508 4400
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard.
To use iCloud you have to upgrade all the way to Mountain Lion:

  • I have the latest version of Itunes downloaded and installed to my computer.  I have a music library already created for my replaced Ipod Nano.  I've just purchased a new Nano.  When I try to access the Itunes store from the Itunes program, it gets hung u

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Itunes, but it still gets hung up when trying to access the Itunes Store from the Itunes program.
I've been unable to register the new Nano or sync it with my library.

    Many thanks.
With those symptoms, I'd try the following document:

(If there's a SpeedBit LSP showing up in Autoruns, it's usually best to just uninstall your SpeedBit Video Accelerator.)

  • Itunes states "ipod detected but could not be identified properly" when I plug in my new nano. tried uninstalling/reinstalling itunes 6 times - get pop-up "itunes helper error" with abort, retry, ignore options. retry doesn't work

  • ITunes won't recognize my new Nano (already have ipod 5.0)

    Hello-
I installed the software for my new nano. When I attach the nano, iTunes says that something is wrong with the software and that I need to re-install iTunes.
My 5.0 ipod still connects fine. My main question is: what is the trick to having iTunes recognize 2 different ipods?
Also, will reinstalling iTunes affect my playlists, library, podcast settings, etc?
    Thanks for any help

Unlock iTunes / get write permission

Wanted to upload some songs from my iTunes Library to new Nano.
Hooked it up, went through the promps, choose two playlists to load, and before we could say oops, we saw that it was infact loading the entire library. We had no way of stopping the process so we unplugged it.
Now when I try to open iTunes it I get an error message :"The iTunes Library file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file."
I verified permissions and repaired them. No luck.
    Help! Please!

i'm assuming the Error code HRESULT: 0x800763b3 means something and is the solution but where can i find the answer or am i going about this all wrong?
Yeah, this 0x800763b3 is a slightly unusual one. Normally with these, the iTunes install error code matches the error codes that people get on their Windows Update failures. But for the last two 0x800763b3s I've been involved in on an iTunes install (Liv and someone else), the 0x800763b3 on the iTunes install has been associated with an 0x8007000b on the Windows Update failures. (Liv's 643s were pretty much "generic" error message codes for Windows Update failures, which could mean anything. So that's why I/we went after the 0x8007000b, which has some Microsoft documentation on fixes.)
Doublechecking on other symptoms of your situation ... is your Windows Update not opening at all when you try to launch it?
If so, when you click "Turn Windows features on or off" in the "Programs and Features Control Panel" item, is the Windows Features dialog box empty? (No features are shown?)
(If we can't get the codes from the windows update failures, we might be able to make some progress if we can identify other symptoms that you're getting. I know some documentation for some of these codes that mentions the Windows Features thing as a possible additional symptom.)

  • Got new nano and new laptop - how to get songs on both?

My old nano does not work, purchased a new Nano 16 gb.   Also have new laptop and would like to get songs onto new laptop and new nano.   What should I do first?  New laptop is Windows 7, old is Windows XP.   I do have an external hard drive that I can use to back up songs from old computer.

The external is perfect. You will want to locate your music on the Win XP hard drive and move it to the external, then bring the external to the new Win 7 PC and drag the music in to a folder there.
If you have iTunes already installed then you will need to drag the music in to iTunes once you've moved it to the PC.
If iTunes is not installed you're good, just install iTunes and it will pick up the music automatically.
Then connect iPod and sync ^^v

  • Trouble with itunes after adding new nano

I've had an ipod mini for some time and had no troubles. I just got a new 8gb nano and installed it (The latest version of itunes was already installed and working with my old mini). Itunes recognises both ipods (I gave them seperate names) and I have no trouble syncing either one, each with it's own individual content (was actually impressed with how it mannaged two distinct ipods). The trouble is that I can no longer use itunes to play my music on my computer. When I select a song it plays properly for about 2 min. then becomes choppy at the same time itunes becomes unresponsive and is difficult to shut down. I've reinstalled itunes 7 using the repair feature and then the uninstall/reinstall no change. Any thoughts?

Likly a issue with your quicktime,
    1) Update your sound card/audio device by going to the PC makers site and seeing if there is an update for your model.
    2) In WIndows goto control panel>Quicktime>Audio tab check "Safemode (Waveout Only)" hit OK then reboot the PC for the settings to take

  • New Nano Plus, can't add mu

I just got a new Nano Plus player. I installed all the programs and then attached the player, when I try to add songs or books. It says there is no free memory or there is no disk in the dri've. I checked in settings on the player and it says it has 95MB of free space. Please Help, I've had my player for a week and I haven't been able to listen to anything but the introduction that comes on it.

I got the impression that the OP hadn't added any other files yet as they can only listen to the demo song.

  • New Nano won't charge - please help!

Hey guys! Hoping you can help me.
Bought a new Nano 4g 2nd generation. I plugged it into my laptop, installed it and put music onto it. When I disconnect it, there is no battery life, even though it was plugged in for hours. I also have an AC adapter, and have plugged it into that, and when I disconnect it, the menu on the screen just disappears and I can't turn it on again.
This is the 2nd time I've bought a brand new iPod that has been faulty out of the box. I've tried the 5 R's and nothing seems to work. I know I may have to send it away to get a new one (shudder) but I just wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem, and if so, what eventuated?
    Many thanks in advance!

Same Problem with one I gave my daughter for Christmas. Purchased online direclty from Apple. What's the fix? DON'T IGNORE THIS ONE GUYS!

  • Got new Nano. Now only a small part of library will sync.

I upgraded from a first gen. 4gb Nano to a brand new 16gb Nano. I had about 3gb in my old nano and added songs frequently with no problems. I tried to sync my new Nano tonight and only about 500mb would sync. Now I have exclamation marks next to 75% of my library. I added some new stuff to see if it would sync, and it did. I just can't sync the old stuff. Help!

Again many thanks. I have tried to tidy up the folders as per your idiot guide- which term is appropriate for me
Under iTunes Media though I do not have  folders for Books,iPod Games, Mobile Applications, Movies, TV Shows so I only have  Auto Add to iTunes, Music, Downloads and Podcasts - My question here is is this OK.
Next - Library files that you mention are there but do not end .itdb
Next  - in the main iTunes folder followingon from Artwork and Media folders  there is some other  iTunes database stuff like Library Extras, Library Genius, Library and Music Library(xml) all dated 10/02/12 plus MimiPlayer .dll dated 21/02/14 and Set Up Short Cut dated22/03/14
AND there is also a Programme Files folder with a sub folder holding file folders called CD Configuration,iTunes Resources, iTunes Help Resources, iTunes Mini Player Resources and Mozilla Plugins all dated 24/03/14 ( when I downloaded the new iTunes) and then a lot of application extension stuff from 2011
To recap I unistalled the old 32 bit iTunes and installed the new 11.1.5 (64 bit) version over the weekend  SO is any of the old stuff listed above required.
Outcome right now is that as previously I can only call up the Downloaded music not Podcats or CD copies.
