New Nano, same freezing problem

My 2gb Nano is freezing up right after I choose my workout with Nike+ - I hit the button to start, and nothing. I already exchanged the first Nano, and now my new one did this on it's 3rd workout! Is there a fix, or do I need to exchange it yet again?

There are a lot of reports like this, with the I-Pod putting itself on hold with I-Pod + Nike, im not sure if it is a glitch in the software, i would try to reinstall the OS and if that does not work, contact Apple itself about the problem.

Don't waste your time buying new iPod,I just did but the same problems occurring.Itunes 7 won't recognise new Nano I have to right click my computer and re-start iPod service every time to get iPod to appear (yes I do read online help Iv'e even reinstalled windows to no effect, no software clash as iTunes was only software installed). New Nano comes with iPod ver 1.01 but as soon as I get iTunes, to recognize new Nano it tells me to ugrade to ver 1.02,I click to upgrade and iTunes 7 hangs!I can't update and iTunes will not recognize Nano (windows sees it as drive e)so it's real messy loading songs and iTunes 7 hangs on song loadup too!
Look I have a Dell Pentium 4 3.0g processor and 2g memory and 120 g hard drive, so APPLE WHAT THE F?*K IS GOING ON? Yes I read that it's all the users fault yes it is I NEVER SHOULD HAVE TRUSTED APPLE,I SHOULD HAVE WAITED UNTIL UPDATE WAS PROVEN! Gee I can run softimage and games like FEAR but iTunes 7 is the worst piece of software I have ever seen!

Sorry Mitch it didn't work. I can get Nano recognized by right clicking my computer then/manage/services/iPod...by stopping and restarting, then opening itunes Hooray i can at last load songs. BUT THE DIALOG BOX WANTS ME TO UPDATE TO 1.02 BUT IF I START THE UPDATE iTUNES GOES INTO HANG. SIMILARLY IF I CLICK RESTORE IT ALSO GOES INTO HANG!
Folks don't bother updating your hardware until Apple fixes the very broken iTunes.I'm putting it all into the hands of lawyers on Monday!

  • New NANO 8gb docking problem

    Hello,
Here in the Netherlands we just have the new NANO 8gb on the market for a couple of weeks. At this moment I have a 8gb but it don't fit in any Apple dock that I use for my NANO 4gb. The 8gb also don't fit in my BOSE and Altec speakersystem. Is there outside Europe already a solution for this problem?
    Thanks for your support.

    NANO 8gb   Windows XP Pro

    Hi there,
Apple cleverly has offset the dock port on the second generation nano by 1mm. It does not fit in my iHome anymore. I checked with the manufacturer and a new second gen nano dock connector is available. It's not free that's for sure.
On another issue I found that my new 8gb nano had connection issues in the iPod HiFi I just bought. I was already on the phone to tech support (although on hold) after I found out that the nano when psuhed forward suddenly made connection. Therefore I investigated and found the nano pin connector pins too low. After massaging the postion I connects flawlesly to the iPod HiFi.

  • New Nano (8GB) freezes when trying to play music. Nike+ IPod at fault?

This is the second nano I've received, the original did the same thing. The nano works fine when I first play it, but after I upgrade to the latest ipod firmware and try using my Nike ipod thingie, I have problems with it freezing up. I take it to work (where I'm outside & don't have a computer) (no Nike connector) & try selecting something, but as soon as I try playing Music or a Podcast playlist, it freezes with the Play arrow button & "Now Playing" in the top menu & the light on. No button combination or toggling the switch will unfreeze it. I have to wait until after the battery has worn out & I get home to connect it to my computer to get it back to normal.
Any ideas what the problem is?
Cube, iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Does this happen with any song or video you play?  If so, then my best guess would be a hardware issue since a restore to factory settings did not resolve it.

  • CS2 Quits constantly, new machine, same old problem

    Hello.
my g5 quad was replaced by apple with a 3.0GHz MacPro and while running certain apps hard, like CS2, Adobe Camera Raw, or Adobe Bridge, they will quit unexpectedly just as they did on the defunct g5 we had.
I have tried everything, just as i did with my Quad, to repair the situation. reseating the RAM, resetting the PRAM, deleting the cache, running DU to repair permissions/repair the disk, running AHT in loop, AND starting with a fresh OS install. none of my files aside from my music and my photos are from the g5 i had. this is not an importing anomaly.
i went to the apple store and they told me that this may be because it is running in Rosetta. i also asked them why my 2 year old PC with an single core AMD Athlon64 3500 and 4 GB of PC3200 can run CS2 so much faster than the MacPro (ridiculous to watch but the PC is actually 2 times faster than the apple if set to the same task at the same time), and they said this may also be due to Rosetta and/or leopard not yet being here. i have been assured that Leopard and CS3 will fix all this. i don't know what to do. i don't want to bring the machine back again. i feel so badly because those guys have tried so hard to help us because they know it is (was) our business machine and that we bought it to speed up our work flow. unfortunately, i don't think the machine is capable of that kind of thing, and i don't trust it to do much anymore. Apple has been very kind to us, and so have their people, but the machines we have used have not been quite so kind or helpful once our troubles began.
i'm not into fighting the holiday crowds for parking and lugging a 40 pound machine around... and frankly, i would be pretty upset if i were on the apple team and saw me back at the store with the brand new machine after all the hard work they put in to help us.
i've stopped using the apple machine as i am afraid to push it hard for my business or multi-task. as a photographer, i am certain that i am not pushing it as hard as a videographer would be. but, i can't run more than CS2 and maybe a web browser (firefox 2.0 is very slow and unresponsive on this machine) without it slowing down... or crashing a program altogether and losing all my work. CS2 is what i use...
so, i've resumed work on my windows machine, and basically use the apple as a storage device/paper weight. that was a $5000+ mistake our business has made, and it's tough to recover from that in my business with one PC based machine that works and an awfully expensive apple paperweight.
NED SNOWING wrote back to me and had this to say:
"hey said this may also be due to Rosetta and/or leopard not yet being here. i have been assured that Leopard and CS3 will fix all this.
This is correct. As all PowerPC applications, like Adobe CS2, have to run through a software "translation" layer everything is slowed down for that application. This is why CS2 apllications run no better than the G5s on the Mac Pro. However, once the like of Adobe etc release their applications as Universal or Intel binary applications you'll see the performance skyrocket forward.
Due to Apple's accelerated transition the like of Adobe have in actual fact been caught a little short in their developement timings. Be aware that the use of Rosetta for applications is only temporary.
By the way, there's no reason that you could run Windows under Boot Camp on the Mac Pro in the meantime.
    Mac Pro 2.66GHz 3GB/5x300GB (see bio)/ATi X1900 XT/AE/BT ; Dell 2405FPW Mac OS X (10.4.8) MacBook Pro 15.4" C2D 2.16GHz 2GB/120GB/Glossy ; Mac mini CD 1.66GHz 2GB/80GB/SD"
    My question stands at this:
still, i do not understand why the machine is so dramatically slower than my 2 year old PC with a single core AMD64 XP3500 and 4 GB of PC3200 AND 2 near full 80GB IDE hard drives.
the Quad was ridiculously fast. it was so fast that i thought there was something worng with it. i never wanted to use my windows machine again and then it failed and failed and deleted our data and failed again...
if i am understanding you correctly, you're saying that this machine SHOULD run CS2 at a rate on par at least with the Quad... well, i invite you to show me what i am doing wrong, PLEASE. The failure of the Quad crippled our business, and now this machine has put us at a $5000+ deficit without anything to show for it. It takes me more time to use the Mac than my PC… IN CS2… and your statement is that the MacPro should run at speeds equal to or at least comparable to the g5. Mine doesn’t. and I am not at all happy about having to bring a brand new machine they replaced along with my PC to the store to demonstrate how slow their stuff is when the Quad blew this heap away AND could multitask. The Apple guys at the store have been great, and this just plain stinks to have to bring back a machine that's supposed to be working and isn't, AFTER being replaced. it's pretty damned embarrassing.
no errors in AHT, Mem test is fine. 2 500GB hard drives, primary drive has 400GB free when i am not working on a project. 250GB when i am. all my stuff is backed up on Terabyte Servers. the replacement machine they gave us had 2GB of RAM (4-512 sticks) and the Apple Store installed 2 1GB sticks as the machine we turned in was equipped as such.
    please, please, please help me.

while running certain apps hard, like CS2, Adobe Camera Raw, or Adobe Bridge, they will quit unexpectedly just as they did on the defunct g5 we had.
The I would say that you're installing some software that is problematic else you used the Migration Assistant to get your data from one to the other. Either way, I would clean install the system and install a minimum of software to ensure that the system is stable before adding to it. I find it hugely unlikely that two completely different systems to exhibit the exact same issue.
Additionally, if you have installed Adobe Version Cue 2 then that might well be your problem.
still, i do not understand why the machine is so dramatically slower than my 2 year old PC with a single core AMD64 XP3500 and 4 GB of PC3200 AND 2 near full 80GB IDE hard drives.
Have you ever had a conversation with someone with whom you did not have a common language and had to use a translator? This is the situation that Apple has with Rosetta (where Rosetta is the translator). If you take into account these mechanics you can't expect this scenario to have a conversation as quick as two people talking in a common language, even if one of the parties isn't very good at that language.
if i am understanding you correctly, you're saying that this machine SHOULD run CS2 at a rate on par at least with the Quad
No… I'm not saying that. What I said was that the Mac Pro should perform equivalently to a low end G5. I would expect a 3GHz MP to be roughly equivalent to a 2.3GHz DC PowerMac G5 in the best case. To expect more than that with Rosetta in the picture would be rather delusional.
I am not at all happy about having to bring a brand new machine they replaced along with my PC to the store to demonstrate how slow their stuff is when the Quad blew this heap away AND could multitask.
I wouldn't be best pleased about that either although I don't really know what you're expecting any of us to say. As I said earlier my best advise would be to erase the boot/application drive and then install everything new and from the original CDs/DVDs. If under the simplest setup possible you still experience crashing then I would contact Adobe or which ever software developer for the problematic application(s).
Otherwise, just return the thing, eat the restocking fee and wait until Adobe CS3 is released.

  • Help! iPod Nano Screen Freeze Problem!

    Hello,
I purchased my iPod Nano 4GB about a month and a half ago. A couple of minutes ago when I plugged it into my iMac the screen just froze.
I've tried plugging it back in, turning it off, and everything. Nothing works! The screen stays lighted with one of my songs paused on the screen, even though the light is supposed to turn off in five seconds.
    Help me please!
    Thanks!

I just found the solution to the problem!
Connect the iPod to a computer. Switch the "Hold" button to the right, and then back to the left.
Next, press and hold the "Menu" and Center buttons at the same time for six seconds.
    This should reset the iPod.
    It cured my frozen screen.
Thanks for everyone's help! I think I'm going to buy the extended Apple warranty now, just in case.

  • New iTunes, same sync problems with Vista

    Hi
I got really excited when I saw in the fixes for the latest iTunes 8.1 for Windows that they had fixed sync problems with iPhones. They haven't!
On Vista Ultimate the sync has always been a problem, with either OutlookSyncClient or AppleMobileSync (or both) frequently crashing. With the previous couple of versions of iTunes, in my case, it has happened every third or fourth sync. Now with the new version it is almost every sync. It took me five disconnect and reconnect attempts and a couple of reboots to succcessfully sync this morning.
I've tried every fix I can find on line. I read that the Outlook sync problem was caused by an incompatibility with pst files that were not unicode. Oddly, I wasn't supposed to be able to sync with an old pst at all, but it did work erratically. Converting my pst to unicode didn't make any difference.
With the AppleMobileSync problem, I read that completely removing all Apple software in a particular order, restarting each time between removals, then clean reinstalling, should solve the problem. It didn't.
Now the problem is even worse and I'm at my wits end on it. Come on Apple, get a grip!
If anyone can shed any light on this I would be really grateful!

  • Nano w/ Freezing Problems!!??!!??!! *Anger*

My nano is only like 8 months old, and has frozen like four times. Is it just mine?? Its a 2G and it has never had any bad drops or water gotten into it. Is there anyway to keep it from freezing? Sometimes reseting it helps and others it doesn't. It is a terrible nuisancce to put all my songs on again after restoring it since all my music isn't on my library!

the standard warranty is one year from date of purchase

  • Itunes problems with new nano, purchased songs

Hello all. I am having a few problems with my itunes and newly purchased nano that hopefully you guys can give me some advice on. First of all, when i plug in my nano, it does not recognize it unless i close itunes and reopen it. Then, it takes a few minutes to open and acts like it is a new nano every time i open it. Meaning, it asks me to name the nano and asks me to apply all the settings etc. After that it works. I then can eject it. If I then re open itunes, with my nano not plugged in, itunes thinks that my nano is plugged in and says its corrupted. If i attempt to do anything in itunes, it freezes up.
In an unrelated problem, i am forced to authorize my computer to play my purchased songs every time i open itunes. It never remembers when I authorize it.
Thanks in advance for your help i definitely appreciate it!

OK, could not resist. I did go ahead and put my old run history back into the new & now restored Nano. No problems. Everything is fine. (Be remember, this is not something that is supported or approved by Apple or Nike.)
There may be no connection between adding the old run data files to the new Nano and the sound & freezing problems. Others have already complained about those.
However, what I will say is that you should never mess around with the Nike+ xml "Preferences" file or the "Best" file. These are invisible for a reason. You can put your old xml run data files into your "latest" folder and thus get them on your new Nano, but you CANNOT change your Totals on your new Nano no matter what you muck around with. However, if you try it and things go wrong, doing a "restore" should save the day.
And it should save the day for sound problems and recurring Nano freezes unless you have a defective Nano.

  • 8 G Nano Freezing Problems--How Widespread Is It And Another Question

I got this 8 G Nano about 1 and 1/2 weeks ago. Last night it froze. I did the "hold switch on and off" and it worked. Then I did the "center and menu" option which gave me the Apple icon when I turned it on with a prompt to use iTunes to restore the Nano. Since I am away from my computer, I have not be able to do that yet. My questions are: how widespread is the freezing problem and is there anything I can do to lessen the chances of it occuring, and since I got the Apple icon on the screen will I encounter any problems when I do the restore?

I think it would be a little bit of a skewed judgement of how widespread any particular problem is based on the responses on this board. You have to keep in mind that most people come here in the first place because of a problem they are experiencing. So it's likely that the ratio on here would be extremely high. The people that post on here only represent a small number (ratio wise) of ipod users world wide so over all the problems described on here may not be as widespread as it may appear (also keep in mind that other sites where complaints are logged would have the same issue...and it's very likely that a number of the complaints here are reposted on various sites by the same people). On here, I am one of the few people that has not experienced the majority of the issues that others have posted about. I have not had to reset my ipod or do a restore or go through any of the 5 R's. On here I feel like I may be on of the lucky minority but the people around me represent a different picture. No problems with their units with the exception of the on-the-go playlists bug and the initial firmware bugs everyone experienced.
As for experiencing any problems when you go to restore due to you having the Apple icon...in theory I would like to tell you no, you won't have any problems, but the reality seems to be that it's impossible to really predict what will happen.
Hope all works out for you.

  • New Silver 2Gb nano keeps freezing/resetting

My new nano keeps crashing or resetting itself for no apparent reason. I am able to sync perfectly well and then when I start playing the songs, the nano will crash and freeze or just reset itself. This happens randomly, it may happen during the first song, the 5th, the 24th or any song for that matter. I have never been able to go past 30 songs or so. I have tested this with the same playlist, not in shuffle mode, so it's not one particular song (or songs) that may cause this.
I have also tried all of the following:
Update to 1.0.2 (although the same thing happened in 10.0.1 as well) and iTunes 7.0.1 (the same thing happened with 7)
    Reset
Restore (both under OS X and Windows)
    Turn EQ off and on
    Turn gapless off
Play the songs in shuffle more or not in shuffle mode
Use a playlist with no purchaced song
    Recreated my library
    De/Re Authorized my computers
and actually anything I have read here or might think of.
Any ideas or is my trip to the Apple Store for a service request inevitable?
    Thanks

Try putting it into Disk Mode prior to restoring. That has worked for some people when an ordinary restore doesn't.
    Putting iPod into Disk Mode
    Restore iPod
If that doesn't work, then I would take it in to the Apple Store.

I'm trying to find out information on how to go about helping my sister to register her new nano and load on CD's and such. I have a nano and already know how to do this but she is from CA and we want to load it here on my computer. She will be going home in 2 weeks and wants to use it in the car for the ride home.We don't listen to the same kind of music so I don't want to use my library but do one of her own for her. Also she will want to add this library on to her computer at home. I'm 60 and my sister is 70 I have enough knowledge to do some things on the computer but am not real computer smart. My sister is just learning about everything but has no idea what to do with that knowledge. Can anyone give me and idea on how to do this that I can get a grasp of what needs to be done to do this? The only option I'm being given is to create an lCloud account.

The last thing you want is a second iCloud account. Try logging out and back in in System Preferences. If that doesn't work, I'd get AppleCare on the line.
