New Network Detected??

Ok, so I purchased my WRT54G wireless G router the other day. I set it up perfectly fine, and it began to work immediately with no problems. However, every about 24 hours or less my internet stops working, and when i check the linksys's advisor it says that a new network has been detected. After this i then have to go through the setup again and then the internet works ok. However, during the re setup, i have to unplug the router wait ten seconds then it usually works. But i really have no desire to keep doing this. I would really like for my internet and wireless internet to keep working on a regualy basis. So please, someone help!!
Also i have a cable connection internet run through Adams Cable. Thanks again!

I think you can try to update the firmware of the router to solvge this. To update the firmware of router try this:
Go to www.linksys.com/download and select correct model numbers and version number. Downloaf the firmware and save it on your computer.
Check the file it sould be firmware image file like .bin etc. If it is a compressed zip file extract it to get firmware image file.
Open setup page of router by typing http://192.168.1.1 in browser;s address bar, and typing password as "admin" and no user name.
Go to administartion tab there
Go to fimware update sub-tab there
Browse for the firmware image file and click update
when update completes turn off modem & router.
After 2 minutes turn on modem and after 2 more minutes turn on router.
Check if connection dropping stops.

  • UML290 & Mac: A new network interface has been detected

I have a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard, and I just purchased a Pantech UML290 4G modem, live in an area with good 4G coverage, and I get a good 4G signal.  I am running VZAccess Manager version 7.2.5, and in general it connects to the 4G network fine and stays connected.  Every time I connect the modem to my laptop, Mac OS generates a "A new network interface has been detected" pop up with the option to Cancel or go to Network Preferences.  Canceling makes it go away.
I also see 4 devices under System Preferences > Network:
    1. Verizon UM290 (which shows connected, not sure why it's missing the L in UML)
    2. Pantech UML290 USB Modem
    3. Pantech UML290 USB Serial
    4. Pantech UML290 USB CM
Does anyone know how to get rid of the annoying message every time I connect the modem? Thanks.

I have the same set up.  Get the same messages almost everytime I start up the UML290.  Not sure why I occasionally don't get it.  Many others on the forum have reported this as well.  For now, we live with it.

I thought the same too, looks like its not just me having this issue, hope Apple do something soon. Thanks for your help

  • Please help...Always detect new network port and......

Hi, can anyone help me...everytime i start up my imac, i need to open up system preferences "network" and it always show : "A new network port has been detected:
    Built-in Ethernet 1
Please verify that it is configured correctly, then press Apply Now to activate it.
And then i will have to click appply now on this "built in ethernet1" so that i can access to internet. After that even i can go internet already, when i open up system preferences "network", the same message(as above) appears.

Have you run any maintenance routines to check for software issues?
Have you changed your network hardware,i.e. DSL interface or router recently?

  • Thunderbolt to Firewire Adapter & New Network Interface Message

I am using the new Thunderbolt to Firewire Adapter. Why is it that every time I use it, I get the following message:
"A new network interface has been detected. The Thunderbolt FireWire Slot 2 network interface has not been set up. To set up this interface, use network preferences."
All I want to do is mount external hard drives that don't have Thunderbolt ports to my iMac, via Thunderbolt because I am using the iMac's single Firewire port for something else. The drives do successfully mount, but why do I keep getting this message whenever I connect them again?

I have no doubt what you say to do would get rid of the message for me. However, both myself and an Apple Store employee think it is odd that the message comes up in the first place. We're both curious about it, and he's going to look into it.
We tested it on a computer at the store, and found that it happens on Lion too.

  • Configuring the HP PSC 2510 on a new network

I'm posting at the end of a long weekend setting up my psc 2510 on a new wireless network. I'm pretty much done, and I'm posting to share what I've learned with others in the hope of saving them trouble. I'm beyond my warranty period, so my advice is based on a few hints from phone tech support and a lot of work by trial and error.
I have four machines total, two of them running OS X 10.4, the others running 10.3.9.
    1. Start by hooking the printer up to a wired (ethernet) network. Print out a network config page (setup, 6, 1) when the printer shows its blue "networked" light. Dial the printer's URL into your web browser and enter the new network's info into the printer's embedded web server. If you get everything right, when you turn off the printer, disconnect the ethernet cable, and turn on the printer, you'll get that blue "networked" light after a minute or so.
If you don't see the light, print out another config page and check the "Wireless Status": "Scanning" means that the printer's having trouble connecting to the network. Your best bet is to temporarily turn off all wireless encryption/security and reconfigure the printer's connection. Once you have a connection, then try adding various sorts of security/encryption. In my experience, the printer doesn't do well if the SSID of the network isn't being broadcast or with a list of acceptable MAC addresses. In my old network I managed to get the printer running with WPA security, but this time I had to settle for WEP 128 bit security.
The Wireless Status will read "Disabled" if the printer has a USB cable or Ethernet cable attached. This means you need to unplug all cables (and possibly turn the printer off and on) to enable the wireless card. If the Wireless Status is "Disabled" even though you have no cables attached, you have probably reset the printer to factory defaults (see #2 below).
Things to watch for: is the default gateway of the printer the same as that of your new network? I had to change my new network's gateway to "192.168.1.1 addressing" from "10.0.1.1 addressing" because the printer was expecting "192 etc." after being hooked up to a Linksys router for several years.
Also, you may find you need to give the printer a self-assigned (manual) IP address, if other computers, once linked to the printer, lose printing and/or scanning capabilities a few days or weeks later. This can be set in the printer's web access server, but make sure to assign the printer an IP address that's compatible with the range of IPs that your router's is leasing to the network. I'm a novice at this network stuff, so sorry if I'm being vauge on this point.
    2. It's possible I could have saved myself a lot of trouble setting up the printer for the network if I had reset the printer's network settings to factory defaults right at the start. But if you decide to follow HP's instructions and reset network settings to factory defaults, BEWARE: the printer's embedded web server can't for some reason configure the printer to re-enable wireless networking. And the latest download of the hp all-in-one installer doesn't contain the network config utility found on the original HP installation CD. (On this old CD, the config utility isn't part of the install package, but it is invoked automatically during the installation process.)
SOLUTION: Run the PSC 2500 Series installer found on the HP CD, preferably from a Mac running an system older than Tiger. It might also be possible to avoid running the installer and just run the config utility.
From this point on, I'll assume you've managed to get the printer on your network. Here's how to get all your computers configured to use the psc's printer and scanner functions.
HP tech support advised me to download the latest installer/print driver and use that to install and configure the psc 2150. This is good advice, insofar as the old HP Director software has a memory leak and the old HP Scan was prone to crashing whenever the 2510 went into Energy Saving mode. But if your mac isn't running OX X 10.4 (Tiger), you'll find that your system doesn't seem to recognize the new print drivers installed with by the download. This is especially a problem if you follow HP tech support's advice and delete a bunch of files prior to upgrading from the old installer to the new one, as (I suspect) it was at this point that I deleted working printer drivers from my Macs running Mac OS 10.3.9.
So if you're running 10.3.9 or earlier, I advise you not to delete any files and to configure your computer for the print and scanner functions in the opposite order that HP advises.
Most important: through trial and error I discovered that the HP Setup application isn't able to configure the printer if more than one user is logged in (Fast User Switching!). (This is a particularly tricky error to diagnose as the only symptom is that the setup app keeps claiming that it "can't find device" even though in the stage just prior it had successfully detected it!) Log out all other users, then proceed with the following steps:
    1. Go to Print Center (called Print Setup Utility in Tiger), delete your old psc printer (if any) and click "add printer". The psc should show up in HP IP printing or under Rendezvous (called Bonjour in Tiger), and when you click on it, the Add Printer utilty should automatically find the "HP All-in-one" printer driver. If something's gone wrong, though, you may get the message "Print Driver not installed". That's what happened to me after I deleted files (see above).
SOLUTION: Run the PSC 2500 Series installer found on your original HP CD. When it finishes, it will start the HP setup assistant, in the course of which you'll be directed to go to the Print Center and add your printer. Do so.
    2. Once you've added the printer successfully, run the latest HP installer, a download from the HP website. You should be able to skip the step where it asks you to add the printer, as you did this in step one.
    3. Finally, since you didn't delete any files earlier, be sure to remove HP Director from your dock and from your Startup items (Login items in Tiger) by opening Mac System Prefs - Accounts - Startup/Login Items. HP Director has a memory leak. And it is superceded by the newer HP Device Manager when you download and run the latest HP installer. You should find the new HP Device Manager in your dock after step 2 (above).

    Hello dgt228, welcome.
I am not sure why you are choosing EAP.  If you have set your router to use WPA, you should just set your printer to enable WPA. Is your wireless light illuminated on the front of your printer?  Run a Wireless Network Test from the front of the printer to self-test the radio. If you can connect this printer with Ethernet to your router its connection will be more secure and more reliable.

  • Unable to create new network

    Hi,
I am using Mikrotik router RB750GL and connected one of the ethernet port to the new airport Time Capsule. However, i am unable neither to create a new network nor extending an existing network using MacBook Pro. I have only managed to detect the TimeCapsule but stated "An unexpected error occurred. Try again".
    Information:
Airport Time Capsule 2TB (just opened from the box today)
Detected other wifi devices (1)- stated Airport Time Capsule e862d5
    Troubleshooting steps:
    1) Tried to connect via Macbook
    2) Tried to connect via Ipad and Iphone
    3) Tried resetting the Airport Time Capsule (10 seconds, power off) for several times. Similar error was noted.

Your problem is obvious.. it is called yosemite.
This is bug infested network nightmare.
You can setup the TC manually if your Mac won't do it automatically.
See Airtport Utility can't find Airport Time Capsule on either of my 2009 Macs
The ipad version of the airport utility usually works ok.. I am not sure if that is what you mean by your second step in troubleshooting.
Try again in complete network isolation .. if it still fails it is possible the TC is faulty.. a fair number are faulty out of the box.. I personally had this happen.. it acted poorly from day one and was completely dead by day five. Not a great piece of hardware overall .. !!
The replacement behaved much better from scratch.. it was easy to see that the first one should have been returned immediately but I needed to see if it was just me.
Do full hardware resets between attempts at setup.. it is much better than messing with any other method.. It is in the link above.

  • Official iPhone unlocked problem - new SIM detected -

    Hi
I have an original iPhone that has been officially unlocked by O2 here in the UK. This phone has been unlocked so it is now running on the Orange network.
    The Issue:
Every time this iPhone is either powered off or put into airplane mode and then switched back on it doesn't remember it is unlocked. It is a real issue trying to get it to recognise the Orange SIM that is now inserted. This phone is now my work phone and the problem is that this happened when I was away from home. I switched it off during a long (and boring) meeting and could not get it working again after. Emergency calls only.
Why does this phone continually not remember that it is unlocked. This is a real issue if you don't have your computer near by and if the phone has powered down for some reason. Not only that I have to put in an O2 sim, connect to iTunes, hit sync and quickly unplug the phone, re insert the Orange SIM, re connect to iTunes "New SIM detected", hit continue, hit sync and quickly un plug the phone just to get it working. This can't be right.
What is going on and can anyone help.

No I haven't experienced this problem, but swapping SIM cards has helped some people with various issues. It may just be that you were unlucky, though 3 times seems very odd. You say that all is well now?

  • New Device Detected Notification

all day long i get this New Device Detected Notification box that pops up in the lower right of my screen. It offers; check the device or remind me later. All i want to do is turn the darn thing off so i never see it again. Anyone know how to do this? i can find a way.

There is a menu option at the top for the status of the network. If you go into this there will be a list of alerts that you can clear, which should solve the problem

  • Installing new network card...how?

The built in ethernet on my computer does not appear to be working. How do I get the Mac to see a new network card once i plug it into the board? Same for a sound card. I know that the built in sound is bad.
I have extensive knowledge of these processes for a PC, but not at all for a Mac. A PC will automatically detect new hardware, but the Mac doesn't appear to see it.
    Thanks for any help.

The built in ethernet on my computer does not appear
to be working. How do I get the Mac to see a new
network card once i plug it into the board? Same for
    a sound card.
There aren't a lot of PCI Ethernet cards supported natively in OS X, and even then those that are usually still need a driver installed for them to function. D-Link is the only one I know off-hand that markets a 10/100 card billed as Mac-compatible. A Mac-compatible generic sound card will be even harder to track down.. the only ones I know of are very expensive ones aimed at digital audio production.

  • [solved] netcfg2 automatic network detection

I had set up automatic network detection a while ago, following the directions in this page of the Arch wiki.  After a recent update, the feature stopped working entirely.  This is the output of the startup script:
    [root@tomato][/etc/network.d][ /etc/rc.d/net-profiles start ][08-11-03-16:00]
    > Profile "auto-wireless" does not exist
    > Profile "wlan0" does not exist
However, if I run "netcfg-auto-wireless wlan0" manually, it finds the network and connects without problems.
In addition, I'd like to have net-profiles autodetect my wired network, which uses WPA supplicant for authentication.  I already have a working WPA config and network profile.  Is there anything I need to add to my /etc/rc.conf?

See: http://www.archlinux.org/news/410/ for recent changes to netcfg. Basically wireless support was broken out of net-profiles into net-auto. The notice and wiki link within has the details.

  • TS4611 Guys if you have these build: 12E3200 and your wifi is dropping, is not the your mid 2013 macbook air, is your router, I solve it by setting up my time capsule as a new network problem solved

Here is what I have been doing:
I got my new macbook air 11" two weeks ago, and have been haven problems with wifi connection dropping, I'm using verizon fioz at home, and their router
I also have a time capsule not set up as a network just join it to my current one.
After looking online all these days, I though, maybe is the verizon device that is updated..
I then reset the time capsule, created a new network
connected my system to the time capsule network, and there it is
    DONE, everything works now.
So if you are haven the same problem,, that is the fix
    hope that helps.
Oh  before I did these I try everything, the wifi update from apple don't work it keeps dropping it
I try everything, so don't and delete the system as some people have done, I read somewhere.
try my fix hopes that works.

I have seen lots of issues on Yosemite with Wifi (and have been having issues myself), but yours seem different. It is a pretty new computer, have you tried taking it in under Applecare (if you live somewhere this is convenient)? Maybe you just got a defective wifi card.  I won't defend Apple over this wifi mess, because it really is terrible, but your issue seems not the same as the ones I've read about while researching how to fix mine (unsucessfully....).

  • I want to set up my time capsule on a completely new network & location without losing the old backups. How do I do this?

I want to set up my time capsule on a completely new network & location without losing the old backups. How do I do this? I cannot find anything in the user manual.

The TC is very hard to just move.. it retains too much of the old network setup.. buried deep in the bowels of the firmware configuration files.. or even on the hard disk special partitions used by the TC.. invisible to you btw.. !!
Do a factory reset and setup from scratch.
That factory reset will have no affect on your backups.. even if you rename the TC.. not a bad things since you also want clients to respond to the new network.. simply reset TM to the new TC name and location.
    See A4 here.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
    Factory reset.
    The Factory Reset Gen1-4.
Unplug your TC. Hold in reset. and power the TC back on.. without releasing reset for about 10sec. When the status light flashes rapidly; release it.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
    Factory reset Gen 5
Hold in reset for about 5sec until the status light flashes quickly.
If your AirPort Time Capsule still doesn’t respond, do a similar reset to the Gen1-4.
Unplug your AirPort Time Capsule .. hold in reset and power the TC back on.. without releasing the reset.. wait until status led flashes rapidly.
