New nforce driver v2.03 performance compared

So how did the new driver v2.03 (with detonator 41.09)compare against the older version 2.0 (with 40.72 detonator)?
Any performance gains in 3DMarks, PCMarks, Sandra or UT3 Benchmarks??
Any improvements in Audio quality/performance?
Any new features in general?...
State here your results 8o

after doing memtest 3.0 (passed)during the boot I received 11 of the same errors, in event viewer I read
An error was detected inDeviceHarddisk 0 during a paging operation
then another error the deviceScsi
videsm1 did not respond within the time period.
I noticed that I had no mouse at first windows screen
when I usually would with the original Ata drivers loaded???. Hmmm
I did notice a slight gain in my HD speed program in the burst rate and gained only 50 pionts in 3dmarks 2001 SE
I may use my backup to revert to the original drivers and if I still receive the error I will exchange my new device 0 hard drive Maxtor 120GB IDE ATA 133 8 MB cache.
it did not over write my 40.72 drivers though????

I have a MAC Pro from 2011 currently running MAC OS 10.9.5.  This weekend I cloned the MAC HD drive to a new SSD drive for improved performance.  The clone was completed successfully with no errors.  After the clone completed I successfully restarted my system using the SSD as the boot device.  I then successfully tested all of my products, including Photoshop CS6 and all of its plug-ins.  I successfully tested the key features that I frequently use.  Today while attempting to launch Photoshop CS6 a message is being displayed indicating that a scratch disk cannot be found.  All drives are available on the system via the Finder and Disk Utility.  I can access all drives including the old MAC HD which is no longer the boot device.  I've even attempted to launch Photoshop from the old device yet the same error persist.  Is there a way to review/edit/change Photoshop preferences if Photoshop doesn't launch?  I've even restarted my system several times to see if that would resolve the issues.  Does anyone have any recommendations for this issue?  Have you previously address this issue?

You can perform the "drivers only" install by downloading the file from CT Support, extracting it to your HD and excuting the ctzapxx.exe.
Extract the SBAX_WEBUP_LB_2_08_0004.exe using winrar (or equal software) --> find the file named ctzapxx.exe (SBAX_WEBUP_LB_2_08_0004\Drivers\support\i386 -folder) and run it.

  • New Intel driver brings substantial performance improvements.

Has anyone else noticed that the new X.org Intel driver (2.16.0) is significantly better than what preceded? Before this most recent upgrade, I couldn't even turn on 3D Compiz effects without the framerate being compromised (unless I disabled Sync to VBlank, which I was not willing to do). Now it seems like everything is running at a silky smooth 60 fps, and the framerate only begins to falter when I have, for example, 80+ terminals opened at once. That's what I consider one hell of an improvement.

I don't know - is it X or xf86-video-intel driver but after last upgrade my tooltips are quite often for a short period time blank, especially in Chromium.
Here is my issue and picture:

  • New Hard drive configuration to optimize performance

    Hi,
I just want to make sure I have the ultimize hard drive setup for performance. I have a in bays:
    1) 640 (Caviar Black for applications)
    2) 1gb (Caviar Black for documents/media)
    3) 1gb (Caviar Black for FCP/Photoshop scratch disk)
    4) 1gb (Seagate- just back-up drive /2nd back-up for external 1gb lacie drive/time machine)
Any feedback will be very helpful!

If you are using 100GB projects, maybe an external raid option for scratch would serve you better, like an external enclosure of disks.
If that's too expensive, utilize the 2 extra ODD sata ports.
Either put an extra drive in the lower optical bay,

  • Best way to migrate to a  new SSD drive for performance and reliabilility

    Hello all,
My 2011 15" MacBook Pro is about 3 weeks old and my new OCZ Vertex 3 120GB SSD is coming in tomorrow.
What is the best way to move my system over to the new drive? I have Time Machine backups on my external Firewire drive as well as complete drive images made with CCC. I have read where some have had problems cloning to a new SSD using a drive image.
My plan is to format the drive and install the OS with the cd then move my applications and files over with Time Machine but it would be much easier to just clone the existing drive image but I don't want any problems down the road. What is the best practice?
    Thanks.

    Follow this outline:
+Step One+: Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Quit and shutdown.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
+Step Two+: Remove the old drive and install the new drive. Place the old drive in an external USB enclosure. You can buy one at OWC who are also a good vendor for drives.
+Step Three+: Boot from the external drive. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager appears. Select the icon for the external drive then click on the downward pointing arrow button.
+Step Four+: New Hard Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your new hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
+Step Five+: Clone the old drive to the new drive
    1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
    2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
    3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
4.Check the box labeled Erase destination.
    5. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
    6. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
    7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the new internal drive.
Source means the old external drive.
+Step Six+: Open the Startup Disk preferences and select the new internal volume. Click on the Restart button. You should boot from the new drive. Eject the external drive and disconnect it from the computer.

  • Poor performance, new hard drive

I'm at a loss. I've had this computer for ages and it cut out on me and I just installed a new hard drive and I'm adding back my programs. In case it helps, here's the info on my hardware:
    Machine Name: PowerBook G4 15"
    Machine Model: PowerBook5,2
    CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (1.1)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 1.25 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
    Memory: 1 GB
    Bus Speed: 167 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.7.1f1
So, it's just slow. And my printer isn't working properly. I can't find the rotten disc, downloads from Epson aren't doing anything. Printer Utility just isn't there.
I have satellite internet and an Airport. I've started watching some of ABC's TV shows and last night it got pretty upset over that and said I didn't have enough memory on my Start Up disk and to quit some applications. It did ok after I quit out of the new one program I had on with OS9.
I've used Disk Utility to repair permissions, did it just the other day and I just did it today and the icons for my hard drive were just a plain piece of paper and the hard drive just a folder! Now I'm pretty sure they used to be miniature hard drive images.
Got any ideas for me? Is Firefox saving too much info on my computer? Or what? Hard drive says I have 46.45 GB available. sigh

Doubt you'll be able to tell me anything about this then, but it won't start up properly now. Sat on the blue screen a couple times, started, and now I get a Darwin/BSD line and then
    login: disk0s3: I/O error
I knew it was going to blow. The apple store is an hour away and I have a small child. Not the easiest thing to do. sigh again.

  • Need help buying new hard drive

I have a macbook that needs a new hard drive and need help knowing what hard drives to buy that will be compatible with it. It is a macbook pro 17inch model no: A1297.
Any help would be appreciated, Thanks

Any 2.5" diameter, 9.5mm thick SATA drive will be compatible.  Currently they come up to 1.5 TB in capacity.  I have a 1 TB Seagate SSHD (hybrid) drive installed in my primary MBP.  The cost is a modest premium over a conventional HDD of the same capacity.  Boot and shutdown times are significantly faster when compared to a conventional HDD,  I can recommend this as an option.
If the bank account permits, an SSD will produce the overall maximum performance gains.  Boot, shutdown and resource hungry applications will be noticeably faster.  Casualyll use such as e-mails and text editing will produce no meaningful performance differences compared to a conventional HDD.
I am of the opinion that the cost premium is still too high for the benefits that they afford.  Other have different views.
    Ciao.

  • Slow start up after new hard drives

I recently replaced my OEM hard drive (160 GB Seagate) with two 750 GB Seagate drives. I have concatenated them into one huge drive. I then backed up everything from the original drive from a firewire enclosure to the new super massive drive. All is working but start up is super slow. I also have a PowerBook G4 800Mhz. The PowerMac used to be a blink in start up compared to the 1 minute for the PowerBook. Now they are about the same. I have seen some speed increases but also some speed loss. What should I do? I tested my system with Xbench and it shows a vast inmprovement with reading and writing big files but a slower performance with small files. Is this normal with bigger drives? Is there something to optimize the drive?

    Hi,
When using a striped RAID set as a boot drive I found in most cases the startup time can be a few seconds slower. In addition, I found no evidence that applications launch faster on a RAID. However, a striped RAID set will copy or duplicate data much quicker.
A striped RAID set will provide a lot of additional speed for those that are copying or manipulating large files but will provide very little additional performance enhancement. In some tasks it will be slower than a single drive.
The downside of a striped RAID set is reliablility. Striped RAIDs are much more likely to fail leaving the user with lost files unless they have a backup. A dual drive RAID is twice as likely to fail as a single drive. A 5 drive RAID is 5 times more likely to fail. See the WiebeTech white paper on this topic for more details at:
    http://www.wiebetech.com/pressreleases/release.php?id=36
You can also see barefeats article that indicates two drives can actually perform faster than a RAID:
    http://www.barefeats.com/hard63.html
    "RAID PAIR or INDEPENDENT DRIVES?
Based on the mixed gains of the RAID pairs over single drives, I hypothesized that there are more avantages to having two independent drives as opposed to a bootable RAID 0 pair. Why? Because things don't happen in sequence. Your normal work flow causes storage events to happen in parallel."
While I like to use a RAID for video work and even create a bootable RAID for this purpose I still keep the internal system drive as a single drive. Its safer and still performs well. To each his own poison but I want a single boot drive in my PowerMacs.

  • I had to install a new hard drive because my old hard drives boot files became corrupted, and i want to get all of my music files off the old hard drive and regain all my play counts/ratings/playlists

    Greetings everyone
as the title says, ive had to install a new hard drive  and i want to transfer my old itunes library onto the new drive, maintaining all playlists/play counts/ratings etc, album artwork if possible. The old hard drive is installed as a slave drive and is completely acessible, but due to the boot files being corrupted i cannot use it as the main drive and therefore operate my old itunes. Also, my ipod no longer contains my music library as itunes synced without my permission and wiped it.
The only thing i have tried is copying all of my old music files from the old drive by selecting 'add folder to library' and then the old drive, then replacing the new itunes library.itl file with the one from my old itunes. This restores all my playlists and playcounts but when i try to play any of the songs it says that the files could not be found, and i dont fancy locating  8500 music files individually!
Thankyou for taking the time to read my post, any help will be greatly appreciated.

Ah, my reply was based on the assumption that you had a default installation of iTunes.
i.e you had all your music in the iTunes media folder inside your iTunes folder.
If your iTunes folder is so small compared to the amount of music you have, you must have a different arrangement.
    This complicates you situation considerably.
iTunes can cope with moving around as long as all the music is in the iTunes media folder, not not if it isn't.
Your first step should be to get iTunes working on the old drive. This will involve editing the xml library file so that the drive letter is correct and then rebuilding the library from the xml file.
Then you will need to consolidate your library which moves everything into the iTunes media fodler. After that you will be able to use my first suggestion.
    Step 1
Find the iTunes folder on the old drive and copy the two library files somewhere else so you can find them again. That's iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Library.xml.
Now open the copy of iTunes Library.xml with WordPad.
    Look for lines starting:
    Location
These contain the paths to tracks.
You will need to use a find/replace to change the drive letter so that it is correct.
Make sure that you include enough in the "find" so that you only change the right thing.
Maybe /c:/ and replace with /d:/ or whatever.
After that, tell iTunes to use the library on the old drive with a shift key start.
Hold down the shift key and start iTunes, keep holding the shift key until you are prompted to choose a library. Navigate to the iTunes folder on the old drive and choose iTunes Library.itl.
    Then use the method in the following article to rebuild your library;
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451
Unfortunately the date added will be today for all tracks.
If iTunes works correctly after this, consolidate your library
    File>>Library>>Organize>>consolidate
This copies all tracks into to iTunes media folder and could create a problem if you do not have disk space so don't do it if you are unsure about free disk space.
Check that iTunes works OK and then use the first method.

  • Help restore new hard drive via time machine back up in time capsule

I have followed Pondini's How Do I Restore My Entire System from a backup on Time Capsule.  I get all the way to section G with No Problem.  I get to section H and my new Hard Drive does not appear in the Select a Destination box.  The icon indicating the system is calculating the size of the volume keeps moving.  Finally it stops searching/calculating and just offers the button "go back".  For some reason it doesnt recognize my new HD.  I open Disk Utility and perform a check and the hard drive appears to be working fine.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure you formatted the new drive properly, per section (c) there?
If that's not right, you can't install OSX on it.

  • Recovery discs do not work with new hard drive

Hi I have come here desperately seeking help as I am not too knowledgeable with the workings of computers and I have spent an incredible amount of time just trying to get my laptop to some level of functionality.  I purchased a HP Envy and it had a corrupt hard drive which would not work from day one, laptop was new.  After a year of constant pressure on HP they finally decided to replace it and let me choose any laptop so I went with the Beats Envy 14 as it was the best one offered from the selection.  Low and behold the thing would not work properly from day one, again my brother who is much more of an expert said that there was definitely a hard drive issue so for the past 3 years I have put up with a computer that constantly crashes with BSOD, where I have lost data on numerous occasions (only so often I can back up), that I have had to constantly reset the thing using HP recovery discs, and that generally cannot cope when performing multiple tasks.   HP are most certainly shocking builds from my experience.  Then just last week the hard drive just craps itself and the laptop no longer will boot up.  I took it to a guy to get it at leYst working again so he has installed a new hard drive but with an old version of Windows 7.  I want to go back to the Windows version I was akin to on the HP recovery disk , and essentially have it all set up as before except for now having a workable hard drive however I get the message:  "This computer is not supported by the System Recovery Discs. You will not be able to continue to recover this system with these discs.Error: 0100 - 3385 - 3078" I also tried out of interest to load my old Windows 7 disc I had and XP but had no success.  Tried booting from startup etc and various things suggested on help forums.  Please tell me I am not stuck with this version of windows.  Whilst the discs included Windows 7 it was a totally different version, this home premium one is terrible. Any help/advice would be gratefully received. Thanks

no they were both 500gb. I read about that already, I heard about creating a partition for recovery etc but this is all a bit above me , as I said I am not very technical when it comes to the working of a computer.  These discs worked perfectly before but now with the new hard drive will not load at all.  I essentially hate the Windows Home Premium verions the guy who fixed it put on, whilst the discs had Windows 7 on them the icons were way smaller, the desktop neater, the buttons different, everything was a lot more modern and I was used to it.  This version looks like something from the 90s, have to constantly adjust size of Mozilla when browsing as it is huge.  I have my own version of Windows 7 on another disc but the hard drive will not let it load either........considering waiting for Windows 10 but again unsure if this new hard drive will even let that update Thanks
