New Nvidia driver to resolve crash/quit issues in Premiere Elements 8.

For Nvidia users, there is a driver update that will fix both of the following issues:
Premiere Elements 8 does not restart after closing on Windows
Frequent and inexplicable crashes with Premiere Elements 8
To resolve these issues, you should update your GPU (graphics card) driver to version 195.81 or higher by following the steps below.
1.      Identify which GPU driver you have by right clicking on the Desktop > Properties > Settings and in the Display field it will be displayed.
2.      Go to http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us and download driver for your GPU card. Its size varies from 80 to 120MB depending upon the GPU card model.
3.      After the download is complete, run the driver install Installation. This should take less than 2 minutes.
There are no known issues that the latest driver update will cause.
***If the update steps shown above do not upgrade your system to version 195.81 or higher, then you may need to download the driver directly. Use the link below only if the steps above do not update your driver to 195.81 or higher. The download page for Vista and Windows 7 is located here:

I was having crashes so I installed the new driver.  Crashes are gone (so far).
However, now a piece of video media (in a pre-existing project) displays with the red "media offline" error.  The thumbnail in the media listing in PE8 is correct.
I can see the video in file manager, and it plays fine from windows media player.
If I try to import it again, I get the error "The import reported a generic error".

    Hi,
    On seeing that a new nvidia driver is available, I thought I'll give it a try as the older ones kept crashing/rebooting in kde and gnome.
    I got nvidia and nvidia-utils from pacman. During that there was a conflicting file with libgl, so I had to remove nouveau and then install nvidia. I got an error saying need to unload module from xserver to install and would be possible on reboot or something similar(dont exactly remember the error)
    Then I rebooted and x failed to start with errors ending up with "GdmLocalDisplayFactory: Maximum number of X display failures reached: Check X server log for errors. "
    I tried "sudo modprobe nvidia" and it gave me
    FATAL: Error inserting nvidia (/lib/modules/2.6-----/nvidia/nvidia.ko) No such device
    I tried looking up these errors and didnt get any proper answer or solution.
    On my own attempts I saw I had inserted a module called nouveau in mkinitcpio.conf, I removed that but didnt help either. Read at a few forums and arch-wiki to run "nvidia-xconfig". The command creates a xorg.conf in X11. But on reboot nothing happened, same errors. Later I tried uninstalling and reinstalling both xorg and nvidia in hope something was wrong with the xorg which could get reset with a reinstall but that didnt do it
    The new nvidia driver is 275.19
    Config:
    i7 720QM
    8GB DDR3 1333Mhz
    Nvidia GTX 260M 1 GB
    Its a Alienware m15x.

  • GP60: After installing new NVIDIA driver, no brightness controls work now.

    Hey guys! I have a small problem I'm hoping someone might know how to fix. I just installed a new NVIDIA driver update (I'm now on build ) and now my brightness controls won't work. My computer is stuck in a very bright setting, and I don't know how to fix it. I've restarted the computer, and I've put it into hibernation and restarted it.
    Before i did the hibernation, my computer was stuck in GPU mode (it would only use the GPU, even if all I was doing was using PowerPoint). The hibernation/restart fixed that, but not my brightness. Not sure if the problems are related, but throwing that in there too just in case.
    I also don't know if this is related as well, but my NVIDIA control panel will not work either; it says that I don't have a display that uses it or something like that. Again, probably TMI, but better safe than sorry!
    I'd appreciate any advice that I could get! Thanks!

    intel i5-4200
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M/2 GB DDR3 (my problem child today).
    Update: Now my computer is back in GPU-only mode and nothing is helping it swap out of it. I'm thinking the two are related now...

    Have you installed the Intel graphic driver?
    The hot key for brightness is controlled by EC & Intel graphic driver.

  • MSI driver - new NVidia driver: MSI Info/Clock

    Hi,
    I first used the MSI driver for my new MSI NX6600GT-VTD128 AGP. I don't use any other MSI software.
    I now uninstalled this old NVidia (MSI) driver and installed the new NVidia driver. The "MSI Information" and "MSI Clock" tab remain. Do they still work (D.O.T. , etc)?
    Can these 2 tabs only be installed with the MSI driver on the CD that came with my card?

    I now deleted the msicpl.dll from C:\WINDOWS but the tabs are still there.
    There is one more msicpl.dll in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32
    Which one is the right one? Both? Or is one from Microsoft? Can I savely delete the one in \SYSTEM32 ? Should I restore the one in \WINDOWS?

  • How do I resolve Dialog opens with Adobe Premiere Elements.exe – no disk

    i purchased Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Elements 13 and s/n.
    I have a desktop running win 7.
    I installed Photoshop and Premiere Elements as a trial and entered s/n's as required.
    I can open Photoshop without problem.
    Whenever I try to open Premiere Elements, a dialog opens with this info.
    Adobe premiere elements.exe – no disk
    There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into the drive\device\harddisk1\dr1.
    Buttons –cancel, try again or continue
    I would like to resolve this issue.

    What you describe is a known issue with Premiere Elements 13/13.1.
    Adobe has given us the fix which appears to be deletion of the OldFilm.AEX file.
    Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit

    and in the NewBlue Folder is the OldFilm.AEX file that you delete or disable by renaming the file from OldFilm.AEX to OldFilm.AEXOLD.

  • Freeze issue in Premiere Elements 3

    Hi,
    We are trying to solve an issue with Premiere Elements 3 for a customer.
    Yes, I know it a very old version, but it is just a home user & it has been working fine for him.  He last used it several months ago with the same hardware & all worked fine.
    Now when he goes to use it again it basically freezes up.  If you turn the camera on it pops up asking the application to use.  If you select Premiere Elements it opens up the window with "capture device offline" & doesn't seem to respond to any mouse clicks.   If you go to task manager & end the task (often get a message Premiere is not responding), go into Windows Movie Maker this works fine - you can even control the camera (start, stop, etc).
    If you start Premiere with the camera turned off you can seem to navigate around menus, etc no problem (until you turn the camer on & try to capture).
    Consequently I assume that the hardware is OK.  Because Premiere Elements worked before I presume that maybe an update or some new application is stopping it from working, but I'm not sure what it is.
    Here is a summary of the system specs:
    Win XP Home SP2
    Premiere Elements V3.0
    Sony DCR-HC96  (also tried their old Sony DCR-TRV355E but this gives the same symptoms)
    Firewire (onboard Asus P5N-E motherboard)
    Any thoughts would be greatly appeciated.

    I tried all of the items you mentioned, but it still gives the same result.
    Interestingly once it freezes if I go to task manager & End Program (the only way to close it) I can go straight to Windows Movie Maker & it works perfectly - I can even control the play, stop, etc.
    Whilst this sort of proves it isn't hardware, I had a spare firewire card so I disabled the onboard card & put in the new card - but the problem is still the same.
    The next thing I have tried is to install the trial of Premiere Elements 9 (the customer is happy to buy this if it solves the problem), but the symptoms are basically the same.  With the camera turned off, the software seems to work well & I can go in & out of all the menus.  Once I turn the camera on, the device appears in the pull down list (something like MS DV ...) but none of the buttons (eg play, etc) work & it sort of freezes up & task manager says its not responding.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

  • Regressions in new Nvidia driver?

    After a system upgrade somewhat recently, I found my graphics not working as well as usual.
    For one thing, mplayer was suffering horrendous tearing under all rendering modes. Previously, I'd been able to get the gl renderer to work well with vsync so that it had almost no tearing issues. After the upgrade, neither that, nor xv, nor anything else seemed to be capable of rendering smoothly.
    For another thing, I was seeing some glitches with the models of some units in Starcraft 2 under WINE. SCVs developed huge spiky poles coming out of their elbows, and Spine Crawler's poles reached up unto infinity while their beaks floated unattached nearby. I also had a noticeably reduced framerate (more than usual) during big battles in the game.
    Downgrading from version 2.70.30-1 to 2.60.19.36 of the Nvidia driver (all 3 components) fixed the problems, so that's what I'm using now. I don't like the idea of being trapped on an older version of their driver while I wonder whether the new one fixes my issues or not, but I figured I'd at least post in case other people were experiencing the problems.

    I just reverted to the previous nvidia driver 260.xx because with the new 270 in [extra] my desktop hanged just at loading time. It even cannot load the icons nor the task bar.
    I'm not using gnome3, just gnome2 and xorg 1.9. I've never put the [testing] repository.

  • New nvidia driver won't xrandr

    Hi,
    I'm having some trouble with nvidia drivers newer than 8178.
    I can only specify one display mode, otherwise it will fail to validate and revert to nvidia-auto-select (wich means 1024x768 in my case).
    When i specify only one mode i won't be able to use switch resolutions while running X (not even with xrandr)
    I have tried every edid related option thinkable and i have used gtf to calculate modelines for every mode i may want to use, but no effect.
    I need to be able to switch resolutions in order to run some applications that require me to do so (eg old windows games running on wine)
    according to the output of "X -logverbose 5" it correctly fetches all supported modes from edid.
    The nvidia driver must be messing up somewhere.

  • Any new Nvidia driver for Macbook pro?

    Hey, after I upgrade to new OSX 10.6.x, my software Houdini (www.sidefx.com) viewport flickers every frame. It used to work fine on 10.5.x.
    I don't know it's the problem for OSX or Nvidia driver, at least, it worked fine on 10.5.x, so I think it is the new OSX bug.
    I use Macbook pro, I tried both 9400m or 9600m can't work. Please fix this.

    Ah, I see - Asking here is just asking other users - if you expected an answer/status directly from Apple here, that won't happen, sorry. Perhaps some users have heard on other forums in which case I'm sure you've already searched, etc. Good luck in any case.

  • New nvidia driver 1.0-6106

    I upgraded my nvidia driver to the newest version with nvidia-installer --upgrade. So far it compiles and works without any errors (GeForce 4, kernel 2.6.7, full pacman -Syu, etc.). There are some new things:

    EDIT: 1024x768 mode for TV-Out doesn't work anymore. 800x600 is the highiest now. Still no explanation why... but for me at least it's not a problem since I'm not using twinview :-) (just decreased default tv screen resolution and font size for tv wm :-)). Some people also report problems with games. I've tested bzflag only and it worked as usually (no faster and no slower).

    Settings prog is bugged? How? It's to early to check everything but I could sucessfully run nvidia-settings and for example add a shadow to mouse cursor :-) I don't use it to restore the settings and I don't think it's very useful at all except maybe for gamers so it's not a big deal.
    As I said I'm not using twinview too - I'm running tv-out but as a second screen (standard xfree way to do this). The lower resolution is not a problem then. But people who are using twinview for their own reasons (like external monitors connected to notebooks, cloning crt on the tv, etc. etc.) should consider staying with the older drivers for some time. Maybe it's a bug and nvidia will release a new driver with 1024x768 on the tv enabled again? - That's just a warning and I suggest to backup your older nvidia arch package if someone is using it.

    Hello all, I have just installed ArchLinux on a new Dell computer of mine.  It has a GeForce FX 5200 video with 128 MB of ram.  Arch installed and boots wonderfully, but the nvidia driver is giving me trouble.  My initial setup of xorg was wonderful.  I used Xorg -configure to have a xorg.conf file generated.  The only thing it couldn't detect was the mouse, which I took care of.  This config file used the "nv" driver which works well.  I then went further and installed the current nvidia driver package with pacman -Sy nvidia and it installed perfectly.  The module loads at boot time with no warnings or errors, and immediately after the module is loaded 2 nvidia nodes are created in the /dev directory ( I use udev ).  After I installed the nvidia driver I did used the command Xorg -configure to create another xorg.conf file and the new one was more advanced/complex and added the "nvidia" driver option as the driver automatically.  The problem I have is that when the xserver starts, the image quality is poor.  It appears as if I am running at 4 bit color ( 16 colors ).  Everything is grainy and poor quality, but the window managers and desktop environments load quickly and work flawlessly.  Also, it appears that 3D accleration/OpenGL is not working, because when try to run glxgears I get the error message
    glxgears: Error: couldn't get an RGB, Double-buffered visual.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • New Hard Drive for HP DV6 & Recovery Issues

    Greetings everyone...  Happy Holidays to all!  
    As luck would have it, on the first day of the Holiday break, my wife's laptop hard drive decided to go on strike - luckily, I could mount the hard drive on another system and get most of the files off that were needed.  In replacing the hard drive and doing my research on the web and on these forums, it appears there is a fair amount of disparity between those having success and complete failure when running the recovery disks after a hard drive failure and, thus far, I am in the second camp (not going as smoothly as advertised).  As a side note, I created the recovery disks from the system upon receiving it and the disks were verified as part of the creation process as being 'good.'
    I am working on an HP Pavillion DV6t, product number XC100AV that originally shipped with a WD Scorpio Blue 640GB drive (WD6400BEVT, 5400 rpm).  We have had this system about 13-14 months (just past that 12 month warranty period) and the system is very lightly used (nightly facebook'ing is about as strenuous as this system has worked).  Since I have a high degree of experience and confidence in working with computers, I didn't have any reservations in going down to the nearest electronics retailer and picking up a new drive to put into the machine.  I picked up a Seagate Momentus XT drive (500GB, 4GB SSD hybrid, 7200 rpm) and put it into the machine in a few minutes, adjusted the BIOS settings to boot from the CD drive and disable the HP Web flash capability, and proceeded to load the CDs through the HP system recovery manager.  The system progresses through the recovery manager without incident or error (indicating the recovery disks are 'good').  However, when booting the system after the recovery CDs complete, I get the nice message that no boot file can be found.  This tells me that there is no MBR (master boot record) created during the system recovery process and there is no way to boot into the operating system.
    Given this information, I have a few questions to those experienced in this area:
    1.  Am I required to contact HP to purchase a new hard drive to get the recovery to work properly?  To put it another way, is there an HP 'tatoo' (as alluded to in other posts around the Internet) that would prevent me from using a HDD that is technically compatible?
    2.  If the answer(s) to #1 is no, what am I missing in getting the recovery to work properly?  Are there any MBR utilities that I should use in addition to the recovery processes outlined by HP?
    3.  Am I required to purchase the same HDD (size, manufacturer)?  I decided to stay away from WD after it failed after only 13 months of light use...

    That happened to me too (after testing windows 8), and the only way I was able to get W7 back on my PC was to install XP, and have it format the drive.  I let XP install and didn't bother installing any drivers.
    I booted from the W7 disk and it worked without incident.
    You have to have advanced knowledge to install XP on a modern notebook, because you need to know how to install the necessary sata drivers in order for XP to even see the drive.
    I noticed that MS has re-established the W7 ISO file download links again in the last day, so see if you can make your own disk again and try using that to install windows and then try to use the recovery disks if you want.

  • Has Adobe solved the crashing issues for Premiere Elements 10?

    Hi there,
    I've been using Adobe Premiere Elements 8 for about 2 years now.  I do like this program and appreciate it being quite a straight forward,  uncomplicated,  video editing program.  One thing which really annoys me about it,  however,  is its constant tendency to just crash when I import and move around *.jpg images using motion tracking,  or just dragging something around the screen.  For example,  I film myself walking into a room with my hand pretending to hold a balloon.  I then import a *.jpg image of a balloon into the shot and move to position it in my hand as though it's really there. 
    My intention is to edit the balloon image to follow my hand while I'm in the room and,  while I could use the motion tracking feature,  I prefer to edit frame by frame,  or else the *.jpg image doesn't always line up properly with what it's following (it's close enough,  but I prefer doing it myself).
    Whenever I move an imported *.jpg image on the screen,  it obviously becomes blocky for a moment until you wait for the image to become clear (I think pixilated is the right term,  but am not certain) or unblocky (ie curved edges,  which moved and became square,  become curved again).
    What Premiere Elements 8 has been doing on my computer (which has an i5 processor,  more than enough memory and so forth) is to crash out of the program when I drag an image across the screen.
    It has helped to move a picture slightly,  wait for it to become clear,  then move it slightly again,  but this still has a tendency to cause Premiere Elements to crash out.
    CAN ANYONE tell me,  please,  if Adobe Premiere Elements 10 has this or similar issues because this problem alone is driving me crazy?

    Many users felt that PrE 8 was a very weak release (kind of like Adobe's version of MS's Vista OS), but most users, with properly setup and tuned computers, find that PrE 10 is a very stable build.
    For the issues with PrE 8 crashing, I would see this ARTICLE. It starts with a checklist on setting up PrE and the computer, for best results. Then, it goes into many tuneup tips, for both the computer, and the OS. Finally, it lists links to help with troubleshooting.
