New office build out | router recommendation

I'm currently helping build out a new office and trying to find the best router for the job. My main concern is ensuring it can handle the WAN line(s) we have coming in. When I looked at the 2921 series it seems to have a throughput max of 75Mbps and with our lines totalling 800Mbps I'm wondering how 'big' of a router we'll need.
Here's some of the details that should give a rough idea of our needs. Our requirements are pretty basic at the moment but we would like to start to build our a reliable network infra as we're quiclkly expanding the business (20 -> 60 employees in 6mo thus far)
300Mbps 1:1 - BT Fibre
100Mbps 1:1 - Virgin
100 person max office size
2-3 VPNs into datacentre's
eventual deployment of our own VoIP network (currently managed by buildings VoIP)

Attachment has good performance information for the current ISRs.
If you're going to have WAN Ethernet handoffs, L3 switch might be an option.
PS:
BTW, the 7301 you mention is 1 Mpps (and a 7201 is 2 Mpps).

  • Why is the sound of my new ipad cutting out intermittently and what does Apple recommend to solve the problem in lieu of any updates?

Why is the sound of my new ipad cutting out intermittently and what does Apple recommend to solve the problem in lieu of any updates? All of a sudden without changing any settings, the audio on my NEW ipad cuts in and out on applications/ games, keypad noise and lock sounds. The rocker button only seems to work while the sound is intermittently being heard before, after a few seconds of noise not doing anything when sound goes off.
This is highly frustrating as I've noticed others posting about such issues as far back as April. Anybody had the same thing happen to them? Is this likely software (ios6) or hardware issue? What are the solutions Apple???

Apple has no physical stores of their own in Dubai, so unless you mean that you purchased from the online Apple Store for the UAE, you purchased from a dealer, who may or may not have been authorized. You can check the expiration date of the warranty on your iPad yourself by entering in the serial number here:
    https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do
If it does indeed show the warranty has expired, then what you need to do from here will depend on who you purchased the iPad from and when you really did purchase it. Perhaps you actually purchased it in August and are just misremembering? Check your receipt. If you confirm that you did purchase within the last calendar year, tell us exactly where you got it and we can probably offer advice.
    Regards.

  • Is Microsoft Office coming out with a newer version soon?

I couldn't find it anywhere online... I mean, the current version is 2004, so does anyone know if they are coming out with a new one anytime soon?
I just don't want to buy that version, and have the new one come out in a month.
    Thanks!
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

If I hadn't gotten my copy of office:mac 'free' (if one excludes the premium one already pays for MacBooks) at the time of purchase from my Apple Store, I'd be running NeoOffice, too.
Might yet, as office:mac is feeling old and clunky and, as someone has already posted, the next version of Office isn't due out till late next year.

  • Another new PC build for a hobbyist

Hi all, I've spent a couple of days searching around for recommendations on a new PC build and found a lot of good information on this forum. I'm replacing my home desktop, which is used for Premiere CS6 (family videos/enthusiast stuff - lately GoPro HD h.264 and some Canon 7D files) running on Windows 7 Pro x64. I'll be reusing some SATA drives but everything else is new. I realize that X79/i7-3930k provides far more performance, but mainly for budget reasons I think I'd prefer to stick with Ivy Bridge. Here's what I'm leaning towards:
CPU: Intel i7-3770k 3.5GHz (3.9GHz Turbo) Ivy Bridge
MB: Likely Asus P8Z77-V LK ATX
    RAM: Probably CORSAIR Vengeance LP DDR3 1600 16Gb (or 32Gb) 2x8Gb (or 4x8Gb)
PSU: SeaSonic X-Series 1050W 80 Plus Gold (only $10 more than the 850W so why not)
    CASE: Fractal Design Define R4
GPU: GTX 570 (likely this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127682)
    DRIVES
         OS: 256Gb SSD (Crucial M4/Plextor 830)
         Media/Projects: RAID-0 2x 1Tb HD (reuse from old system)
         Previews/Cache/Exports: 2Tb 7200rpm HD
Add in misc DVD+RW, CPU cooler, etc. This prices out to ~$1,300 (without HD's but including the SSD) which is ok, little cheaper would be ok but couple of hundred more is fine too. I'm mostly undecided on the GPU, wondering if a GTX 660 is worth the $70 more (1344 vs. 480 CUDA cores and 2GB 192-bit GDDR5 vs 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 for the GTX 660 vs GTX 570 respectively).
I'd really appreciate any thoughts on this build overall and suggestions on alternate components; thanks very much for all the information!

CPU - agree 3770K is a better choice as you have newer instruction sets, superior performance, lower power consumption and support for second generation of QuickSync offer hardware transcoding support.
Motherboard - The Deluxe is an outstanding board depending on how much you may really want the Marvell option you may want to consider the P8Z77-V Pro which also offers Thundebolt natively on the board. ( Although the Deluxe has a TB header in place for when the Thunderbolt EX expansion card is released ).
Additionally on both they offer a TPU switch which you can enable to have a easy 4.2 to 4.3GHz OC without any other interaction or adjustment.
CPU Cooler - I would advise something basic at least like a Hyper 212Plus or Hyper212 EVO. If you want to more cost effective the Hyper TX3 is very low cost and solid but not as effective at heat disipation.
PSU - Seasonic is excellent choice especially the X gold series very effiicent and the load performance is outstanding additionally generally any loads undder 25% will not have the fan spin at all helping to keep a very quiet system.
Chassis is a very solid option
GPU - I would consider  GTX660Ti or the new GTX660 considerbly superior power efficiecy as well as there is hardware 4K econder support while not active it is there waiting for software applications to support. Additionally you have superior multi monitor flexibility up to 4 displays and it is quieter and cooler. Lastly performance is superior. I would consider ASUS GTX660 or GTX660TI DirectCU II.
    SSD
Crucial drives have very solid firmware but write performance is not as strong ( this is relative overall a solid drive ). Depending on your write and read usage a different controller may make more sense. In this case you may want to consider a different SSD.
Corsair's new GS or GTX are very solid in the firmware development. If you will have a large amount of Incompressible data which includes certain types of TIF and PSD*, JPEG, video and sound files, ZIP files, etc. Then you may want to select a OCZ drive or a SSD based on a Marvell contrler or the new Corsair Neutron series. Those have the benefit of not taking a penelaty with incompressible data. With the overall price drops though on SSDs I would recommend 240GB especially as performance of the SSD will vary depending on capacity filled ( to a extent ). With that noted the Force GS and GTX which use SandForce have very strong performance for overall application usage.
Lastly depending on the maximum read and write speeds you may be better suite to use SSD Caching instead of the raid you are considering on the Marvell ports. Read speeds would be improved considerbly while writes would be stabilized but not overall extended
    Hope this helps!

  • Wireless Router Recommendation

I want to buy a new wireless router to replace my aging Belkin G Router. It has been a long time since I purchased a new one. I am not sure what is good out there. Airport Extreme looks promising but I am wondering what routers would be the comparable or better. Just so that I can make a properly informed decision.
I would like the new router to have a good range, NAT, MAC address filtering, Ethernet ports, WAN Ping Blocking, and USB for sharing a printer or external drive.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I would buy the AirPort Extreme Base Station myself. For my needs, the unit would be perfect if it had four Ethernet ports instead of three. But I may still change my mind. When was the last version of this Airport release? With the iPad and possibly a new iPhone on the horizon, I am sure an update to the Airport station is no where near the front burners.
I was consdering the new Belkin Play Max router since my old router is a Belkin. But I read from on-line reviews that the interface is confusing and it is very far from being plug and play as it claims.
Thanks for the link to the Netgear WNDR3700 that look good too. The Netgear Rangemax WNDR3700 and the Cisco Linksys E3000 also caught my attention. Has anyone used either one yet?

  • UPDATE: Install new Folio Builder panel

The Folio Producer tools on the web were updated July 21. Please update your Folio Builder panel to make sure that it's in sync with the web client. The links for downloading the 1.1.2 update will appear on the main DPS installer pages:
    Mac OS: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=172&platform=Macintosh
    Windows: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=172&platform=Windows
Note that there is a difference between installing the new Folio Builder panel and updating the authoring tools. Whenever there is an update to the web client, you should update the Folio Builder panel. However, when the new version of the authoring tools (Overlay Creator panel and plugin) becomes available, you have a choice of updating the authoring tools or continuing to use an older release. For example, you may want to continue using an older set of authoring tools so that you can continue to work on folios for a custom viewer that you created, and you don't want to update that viewer app in the store every time a set release comes out.
The v14 authoring tools will be available later, when all the viewers are approved in the stores. The new version of the Viewer Builder app is scheduled for release early next week. You'll be able to specify languages and use in-app billing for Android viewers.
When you update your Folio Builder panel, you will be able to do the following:
    * Re-order articles in the Folio Builder panel by dragging and dropping
    * Unshare folios with individuals
    * Upload large articles (the limit increased from 100 MB to 2 GB)

    OK, I've done this.
To test what's happening for sure, I have uninstalled and re-installed time and time again, step by step. Here's what I get:
    1. install Digital Publishing Suite: I can sign in to Folio Builder
    2. install patch 1.0.1: I can sign in to Folio Builder
    3. install patch 1.1.1: I can sign in to Folio Builder
    4. install patch 1.1.2: I cannot sign in to Folio Builder
Here are the messages I get when I try to sign in with 1.1.2. It's always one or the other, at random.
On my Mac at home, I can sign in without problem. Could it be a firewall issue with the Windows computers at the office? If the sign-in system has changed, please tell me what Adobe has done so that I can communicate this to our IT support.
In the meantime, I have downgraded to 1.1.1 so that I can continue working with DPS.

  • Multiple Airports on Office Building network

I work as the IT support for a local office building.  The office provides internet services to the tenants in the building.  Most of the offices are occupied by doctors or lawyers.  A few have Airports Extremes or Airport Time Capsules.  Right now they are seutp on the buiding network with Static IP's and they seem to be acting as pass throughs to the building network.  So, they have their own wireless SSID's however the IP's they provide are really provided by the building DHCP server (XTM Firebox), which is the router.  The building is on a 10.0.20.x subnet
Whenever i try to setup DHCP on the Airports and change the subnets to a 192.168.x.x range, i get an error message that tells me the IP addresses are out of the subnet range and are invalid or something like that.
How do I provide a static IP from the building router as the "Internet" or WAN IP for the Airports AND have each Airport provide its own private subnet so that each doctor or lawyers office can have privacy and security?
    Thanks
    GCal01

How do I provide a static IP from the building router as the "Internet" or WAN IP for the Airports AND have each Airport provide its own private subnet so that each doctor or lawyers office can have privacy and security?
The closest way to do this would be to configure each AirPort to have DHCP and NAT enabled. This would provide each office with its own subnet, but would introduce a double NAT condition with the building's router if NAT is enabled on it. You would also configure each of the AirPorts with static WAN IP settings instead of being DHCP clients.

  • New Office opening.

    Hi,
I am a new office setup and the office is closed for lunch. When the customer rings in during office hours, the talk to the agents. During lunch time and out of hours they hear a closed for lunch message and a closed, please ring back during opening hours  when we are closed.
I have created a Directory number 65704 in three partitions, open, lunch and closed. The open hours is working fine.
When the customer ring during lunch, the call is send to 65797 and this points to a CTI Route Point which forwards the caller to voicemail. During closed hours, the caller is sent to 65798 and this call is also forwarded to VM. However during my test I get the voicemail lady "Hello welcome to Cisco Unity voicemail .......
I have setup two call handlers with the extension associated with it and the messages pasted into the Profile and Greetings part of the Call Handlers to try and get the message to be played for the customer.
We have CM 7.1 and Unity 4.0 (5)
    Any ideas anyone.

    Any ideas.

  • Found 2 bugs in new Flash Builder 4.7

    Hello.
I've just migrated all of my large projects to the new Flash Builder 4.7 (from 4.6) and they all work well except for the 2 annoying issues:
    1. I don't know why, but FB no longer allows me to create "config" packages. It says "config is a reserved word in ActionScript and cannot be used." Wtf? I had lots of projects using such names in FB 4.6 and didn't have any issues with it. Is it a new rule in FB 4.7? If so - then why it was introduced and was introduced only now? ActionScript language and FB exist not the first year... Also after i migrated existent projects i see all "config" packages have non-standard "folder" icon in the source file tree (in the package explorer panel).
    2. There are strange warnings started to appear - "the import BLA-BLA-BLA is not used locally", but I am not blind - I see it is used just a little bit below in the code. What is wrong with this?
Please help as I am confused now about what to do... I waited for FB 4.7 for so long and now I think I will need to downgrade...

    Hi Infeter,
    For 1;
After the number of hours I have lost debugging issues where someone has inadvertently named a variable the same as a package that is on the root, so making it impossible for FB to discern whether I am talking about "aname.veryImportant" as the sub-package "veryImportant" of the package "aname" or the property "veryImportant" of the variable "aname", I welcome any and all new warnings of how a coder may inadvertently break Flash! So, if they are saying it is a reserved word, it is probably because there is a core class, variable or other such that will, at some point, bite you if you name something after it. This has always been the case with, for example "default" - default is a keyword that has real meaning for the compiler and you will not be allowed to define things as "default" because of the potential for confusion (are you issuing the "default" directive in a switch statement or are you referring to the "default" value in your class?). Given that FB has the frankly excellent "Refactor" function to allow you to easily rename packages, members and classes, I'd just be happy to rename the offending items and be glad to have saved myself several hours of painful debug later on.
    For 2;
I'm surprised you're seeing this warning for classes that are not used. I've found loads that were added in automatically over the years that simply are not used. I'm loving the way I can clean out about half my import statements now. The thing to do is to comment out the imports and check that everything still works. If it does, then you're laughing, you don't need them. If it triggers errors of not being able to locate the class, then I would put together a code snippet and add it as a comment to your bug report.

  • New campus LAN/WAN harware Recommendations?

    Hi there Cisco community..
We are currently in the process of looking for new office space to seat around 500 call centre and back-office staff.
The reason for this post is I haven't been in the market for buying new hardware for a number of years now and it would be good to know what the consensus is, as to what is the best hardware for this is at the moment.
At the existing office site (where all our staff currently reside) we have 4 x 6500 switches and two 3845 routers.
Our requirements are fairly standard and we aren't intending on having any data centre infrastructure at the new office site.
    Features we currently use are:
QoS for prioritisting VoIP and VDI traffic
Netflow to monitor usage/performance (implemented on the WAN link interfaces of the 3845 devices)
In addition to these existing requirements at the new office we will likely:
          Deploy a corporate WLAN solution.
Put in place a more advanced QoS solution.  At the moment we use ACLs to identify VDI traffic but I suspect we should be looking to use e.g. NBAR?
I'd greatly appreciate feedback regarding the following.
    1) what your views are in terms of suitable hardware to meet the above requirements
    2) whether it would be useful to think pragmatically, beyond the above, with respect to future proofing the office for forthcoming technology developments / changes to ways of working e.g. BYOD/home working?  Would this influence the choice of hardware?
    3) Our existing switch software is comprehensive and we have been unrestricted by what features we can use.   Is the operating software purchase model more complicated these days i.e. will we find we need to buy features on a 'per feature' or 'bundle' basis?
    Many thanks,
    Andy

"Best" is very subjective; also depends much on you requirements/needs.
If you've been happy with you 6500s and 3845s, I doubt you'll find much improvement with newer hardware, except perhaps for performance, because both your platforms can run IOS images that are either current or close to current.
(BTW, depending on your current 6500 hardware, you might be able to upgrade without replacing everything.)
The logical successor for the 6500 series are the 6800 series.  Just one 6807 or 6880, using IAs, might be sufficient to support all user users.
For your 3845s, the current ISR line covers a good range of bandwidth needs.  The 3845, for the same bandwidth capacity, might even be replaced by 2900 series.
For "future proofing", you'll probably want to use the "latest" hardware, as that's likely to have the longest support.  So, for example, if choosing a new ISR, you might want to go with the 4300 series.
Yes, licensing and software package selection has become more difficult, but I also understand Cisco is considering making it simpler, because of customer complaints.
For WLAN, you'll probably want to look at Cisco WLAPs and their controllers, some of which are cards that work in 6500s (don't know if they have them for 6807s too).
NBAR, may, or may not, help your QoS.  Some of it is just a pretty face on an ACL.  Some of it, though, can do much more than what you can within an ACL.  (Depending on your installed IOS version on your 3845s, they might already be able to do NBAR.)

  • New iPad  build day

    Hi.
How can I know what is the New iPad build day & place according to the serial No ?
    It's all without numbers ...
    Thanks

It's the only way to find out more about your device.
I found this answer about the serial number info on this page:
    Apple Serial Number Info
A serial number only holds hardware information, not personal information.
Only the store where the hardware was purchased holds records with the name, purchase date etc.

  • Slide repeats when using build outs

I'm new to Keynote Version 4 and I'm having some trouble with a self-forwarding slideshow I'm creating. Every time I use a build out, the slide repeats on playback. I'll use build ins to add photos (most of it is photos) and then when I want to get rid of them by using a build out, the problem occurs.
    Any ideas? Thanks!

Russell, glad you found a solution.
What I was going to suggest first, before looking at your sample, was to have something on a slide that as an automatic build so that when you go to the previous slide, that object would act as your transition. In playing around, I have found some pleasing effects using either graphic and text elements.

Verizon has n routers, but its not always easy to get one. The Rev. f and g are n and the newest rev. i is also n.
If you want the newest rev. i (gige) router you'll have to pay $99 for it unless you upgrade to the 150 mb or higher plan in which they will give you one for free.
You can call Verizon and say your router broke, have them send you a new one and hope you get an n router in return. Most likely you will since they are no longer taking back g routers from customers who discontinue service. You won't know what router you will get though until you get it.
You can check out ebay where there are always a ton of them for sale at lower prices then Verizon sells them at.
There is always the option of buying your own n router elsewhere and just using it along with your current one.

  • Setting up a new office with Mac enviroment

    hey there,
my orginization want to set up a new office witha Mac enviroment. currently we are working on microsoft desktops and servers hosted localy. so now im at a point where the desktops are not a problem, but the servers are, in addition to that i was asked to look into cloud hosted solutions for the servers .i have no idea what im doing since im a fresh graduate.
i need to find out how the Mac enviroment works. Whats required from me in order to se up a succesfull mac enviroment enterprise?

    Start here:
    http://www.apple.com/business/mac/
Then try to find a local business that already uses Macs and beg them to be shown around their setup.
There's no real difference between using a Mac for home and using one for business except that you will need a bullet-proof network and it might be an idea to dedicate one machine to running OS X Server:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/server/
depending on how big the business is.
As for cloud hosting, there's no real difference between Macs and Windows for that: all the big providers provide both.  However, personally I do not trust and would not agree to work with a cloud service for a business yet.  You have no control over things and when it doesn't work you just sit there twiddling your thumbs.
