New OLAP connection for each BEx query?

Hi,
I am wondering whether it's really necessary to create for each BEx query a new OLAP connection in BO 4.0.
This is the BICS connection as far as I know. But this would result in a lot of OLAP connections...
Thanks!

One OLAP connection is enough for one BW system.
You can also dedicate a OLAP connection to one query if needed.

Hi guys, I have one spreadsheet/dashboard linked with, let's say, Pippo cube. Everything it's ok. Now, I had to remove Pippo cube and I built Minnie cube. How can I set Minnie cube in the already working spreadsheet/dashboard?
Should I rewrite all the dashboard with all the charts or there is an easyer solution?
    Thanks

This is a common mistake and I highly advise against it.
1: TimeMachine saves states of changes and thus requires more room on the TM drive than the boot drive it's backing up.
2: Something happens to the TM drive, loss, theft, dropped, power surge, etc., you lose both backups.
3: The storage drive might become a portable need, with it being on the TM drive, now your increasing the risk to the TM backup that something could happen to it along with the storage drive, due to increased movement.

  • Crystal reports 2013 , SAP MDX Driver not able to connect with BW BEX Query

    Hi All,
We just installed Crystal 2013, and want to create crystal report on SAP BW CUBE/BEX Query through SAP MDX Driver.
1.When start connecting through SAP MDX Query option from new connection , SAP Systems which are in SAPLOGON are not appearing in initial screen. where as from OLAP Connection we are able to connect to SAP BEX Query.
2.Even from SAP Tool kit we are not able to connect to BEX query, we are getting ERROR MESSAGE.
and we are using SAP BI BO PLATFORM 4.1 sp01 .
Please suggest me , if I am missing any configuration settings.
    Regards,
    Joseph

    Hi Joseph,
Before you start building the report, make sure the right transports have been loaded on the SAP System. The right Transport files are the ones found inside the installation zip you download from SAP's server. They're under the "Collaterals\Add-Ons\SAP\Transports" folder.
For more info on Transports, authorizations etc, please have your BASIS admin go through this wiki:
Crystal Reports 2008 and BW - Installation and Configuration - Business Intelligence (BusinessObjects) - SCN Wiki
To resolve your first issue, please follow the steps from this thread:
Problems with SAPLogon.ini for SAP GUI and Crystal 2011
P.S: Crystal Reports for Enterprise 4.1 does a better job at handling BEx queries that the CR 2013 designer. It directly connects to BEx queries via the BICS connectivity driver and doesn't need the Transports to be there on the SAP System. You might want to give this flavour of CR a try too.

  • One connection for each sql statment?

    Hi there!
Can I use only one connection for several stataments or prepared statements? or
Do I have to use 1 connection for each statement?

One of the updates to the JDBC API in Java 1.4 has
been a getGeneratedKeys() call, which (if you
requested them) gives you the keys that were
    generated.
Good idea here, evnafets. I tried it with Oracle recently, but it didn't work. I wasn't aware of a driver that did implement it. I'll try MySQL to see. Thanks.
You would probably need an up to date JDBC driver, but
I have seen this work in mySQL. Maybe it might solve
this problem once and for all.
Apart from that you can try select @@Identity from the
    server to get the id
Or that old awful, unreliable hack of select (max)
    (shudder)
Any other suggestions? Some folks like having a single table for key generation. Keys are unique across all tables that way. Using that scheme with before insert triggers can mean just a query on the key table. - MOD

  • One connection for each request!trans

    Hi there,
We migrated a big application from classic toplink to EJB 3, glassfish, EclipseLink. Some big module is still using classic toplink queries for a lot of things. As we didn't have the resource to change everything to pure ejb & jpa, we tried a couple of "tricks". They kind of work (in production), but I noticed that there is one connection for each db request.
It stills works fast enough, thanks to Glassfish connection pooling. But I guess this is horrible. Regarding transactions too...
Here is how I get a UnitOfWork:
    JpaEntityManager jpaEntityManager = JpaHelper.getEntityManager(entityManager);
    UnitOfWork unitOfWork = jpaEntityManager.getUnitOfWork();
Here is some eclipselink query which is causing thousand of db queries and acquiring about the same number of connections :
    return ((Collection) unitOfWork.executeQuery(readAllQuery));
    thx, Yannick

    Hello,
ReadAllQueries will always go to the database by default to ensure that all the results are returned. So unless you are using inmemory query options, you will always see the same number of queries as executeQuery calls when using ReadAllQuery objects.
As for connections, the default is for connections to be obtained as they are needed, and then released when no longer needed. By default, EclipseLink/TopLink will use a read connection pool and obtain and release for each read query that is done outside of a transaction. When in a transactional context (ie reads through a uow where a transaction was started and changes made), reads will go through the write connection - this is done to ensure that transactional changes are picked up -and these will not be put into the shared cache until the transaction completes. So all reads done in the same uow while in a transaction will use the same write connection, since the uow needs to hold onto while the transaction is active anyway.
How are your transactions demarcated and the EntityManager obtained?
    Best Regards,
    Chris

  • Need new result file for each iteration of a loop

I am using TestStand 2010 SP1.  I have a main sequence that essentially does the following:
Initialize the test equipment and set up the test environment [Sequence Call]
    Start Loop
    Run Tests [Sequence Call]
    End Loop
Because testing can continue for hours, the resultant report file is enormous and difficult to evaluate. I need to create a new result file for each loop iteration.  I know that starting a new execution of “Run Tests” will create a result file for each iteration of the loop, but the new execution will not have access to the handles to the test equipment that were made during initialization.  The testing is time critical, therefore initializing the test equipment and setting up the test environment must occur outside of the loop.
How can I programmatically create a new result file at the beginning of the loop and close the result file at the end of the loop?  I am open to any other suggestions.  Thank you in advance for your help!

    Hi,
You could modify your process model by making a copy of Test UUTs entry point. Then make the loop that usually tests multiple UUTs into your loop. Take the loop and init out of your sequence. You can init in PreUUTLoop or the other pre loop sequence, and maybe store your references in runstate.root.Locals and pass them to MainSequence. Then you can use Report Options to set it for separate report files.

  • How to configure lazy/eager loading for each JPA query

    Hi!
I have extensive EJB model (entities with many child entities, entities with association to other large (many fields, BLOBs including) entities, and so on) and I would like for each JPA query configure what properties or associated entities (actually - in arbitrary depth) of selected entities should be fetched.
E.g. for one query I would like to fetch only Order (and no data of associated entities), but for other queries I would like to fetch Order, Order.Customer, Order.ShippingAddress.ZipCode and nothing else ( e.g. if there is Ordere.Route, Order.Billing and other associations, then I would like not to waste resources for fetching them). In both case the select clause of query can include only Order, but the results should be different - i.e. - there is no associated data in the first case and there are some associated data the second case.
I know that one solution is to declare all associations as lazy and then - after reading the result of query - do some touching for retrieving the associated data:
    String check = order.Customer.toString();
    check = order.ShippingAddess.ZipCode.toString();
But I see 2 problems with this: 1) it is not nice (resources are wasted for simply touching associated entities); 2) I assume that each "touch" operation generates other query to database that could be executed together with the original query. So - it would be nice to configure JPA query somehow to let it know which associations will be required from the result and which not.
    What is the best practice?
I found, that JBoss server has lazy-loading-group configuration, but - I guess - it is JBoss specific:
    http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/JBoss_Enterprise_Application_Platform/4.2/html/Server_Configuration_Guide/Loading_Process-Lazy_loading_Process.html
besides - it is XML and it would be more pretty if query configuration could be done with annotations!

JPQL has a "fetch" construct in which you can force a lazy element to be fetched using a query - I must note that I have had unexpected results with it in the past but that was using an old version of Hibernate and I wasn't very experienced with JPA yet.

  • OLAP Universes - Based on BEx Query - Month and Previous Month Functions

    Hi,
I created a Universe based on SAP BEx queries and I like to create a filter so that I use in Web Intelligence report to run for "Previous Month" data always. There are "Date" filelds in BEx Query(No Month info only date data). I have no knowledge of SAP BEx Queries and new to OLAP universes. Could you help.
How to create filter that show Previous Month.
    Nanda Kishore
Edited by: Nanda Kishore B on Dec 26, 2010 6:15 AM

The easiest way  (but NOT the most efficient one) is to create a local variable (Dimension) in your report with the following code:
    =if (Month(CurrentDate())=1 AND Month([[MyDate]])=12 AND Year([[MyDate]])=(Year(CurrentDate())-1)) OR (Month(CurrentDate())>1 AND   Month([[MyDate]])=(Month(CurrentDate())-1)) then 1 else 0
where MyDate is the field from your query containing the data information
Activate the report filter area in your report design panel by pressing the Report filter icon and drag and drop your variable there and apply it to the entire report. Filter value 1 and you will get the data for the previous month.
Keep in mind that this approach is not optimal especially if you do have many rows of data delivered to your WebI report because filtering takes place only AFTER the data is retrieved. The Best practice here is to work with BEx variables.
How many rows of data does your WebI report normally fetches?

  • Universe Connections for SAP BEx

    Hi All,
We are planning to build couple of Universes over SAP BEx query.
Could anyone inform if we should go for creating a single connection and use it for all Universes (or) Create multiple connections.
Does having different connections for different Universes(though Data Warehouse-BW) is same helps in increasing report performance?
    Thank you.
    - AK

    Hi,
It all depends on your requirement. There are few ways.
You can create one super universe on the top of your BW Query and then create your reports using your super universe.
Or you can create multiple universes and then create your reports.
Basically one universe one connection. SAP Universes are different then other universes where you create one connection.
In SAP environment one universe one connection.
    Hope it helps.

  • OLAP universe on top Bex query

    Hi all,
I have a Bex query with a single mandatory Hierarchy variable. This hierarchy variable was created over GL Account infoobject. I have to different active hierarchies.
I generated a OLAP universe based on this Bex query.
The problem is it doesn´t generate any sub-class for hierarchy and for level objects.
I can't see any filter in OLAP universe GL account dimension.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance
    Regards
    David

    Hi Ingo,
    Thanks for your help.
Yes, I can see both hierarchies in result set when I run the query in RSRT.
Both hierarchies are not time dependent and very simples.
I made a lot of test (working with query designer 3x, query designer 7) and to me it is a problem with integration kit.
There is no filter related to my hierarchy characteristic, nor level generated in OLAP universe.
    Hope your comments.

  • Proble while creating new Data Connection for the Webservice

    Hai All,
when creating a new Data Conneciotn for the Webservice in the interactive form i got the following errror
    Cannot choose this operation:
    - there is no associated SOAP Binding
edit -> new Data Connection -> WSDL -> i entered the wsdl url -> i got the methods in that webservice
but when i select one of the method in the methods list i got above error
i developed a webservice in NWDS and deployed the WAS ( created a webservice for the session bean)
please help me to solve the problem
    Thanks in advance
    Siva Sankar N

    Problem was solved,
    Downloading the WSDLs:
Download the 3 WSDL files from the WAS using the WS-navigator tool:
    Go to http://<was-host>:50000/wsnavigator/enterwsdl.html
    Select your WS
    Click in the menu “WSDLs”
    Download the default SAP WSDL
You will have 3 WSDL files in the downloaded zip files.
    1) main.wsdl
    2)config1_XXXXVi_document.wsdl
    3_configl_document.wsdl
Perform the follwing task to the above wsdl files, and use this wsdl files to the datasource
    1. Copy/paste the <wsdl:service> XML element from the main.wsdl to the Config1_SDN_adobeWSVi_document.wsdl.
    2. Copy the <wsdl:binding> XML element from the Config1_document.wsdl to the Config1_SDN_adobeWSVi_document.wsdl.
    3. Add the SOAP namespace (xmlns:soap="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl/soap/") from the main.wsdl to the Config1_SDN_adobeWSVi_document.wsdl.
    4. Adjust the namespace reference by replacing “prt0” and “bns0” with “tns”.
