New/Old Computer No Admin

For anyone who followed the eMac demise we are moving an iMac from one department to another at the High School. We need to admin the computer but the last person, who has left the school, blocked all ability to admin. He also erased everything in the Keychain utility. We cannot update the computer because he blocked access to the net, personal accounts, System Preferences, etc.
Any ideas what we can do.

Use the Installer disk to create a new administrative password (you see the reset password option on the contextual menu once you boot from the CD or DVD). This requires you to restart the computer after inserting the Installer disk, holding the "C" key so the computer boots from the CD or DVD. After resetting the password, restart. On the restart you'll have control of the administrators functions.

  • Sync to new old computer

    Hi,
I gave my granddaughter a an iPad. She now has all her music, app and photos on the iPad, and I want her to be able to sync it with the family MAC in the kitchen on which she has an account, including an iTues account. How do I do that without deleting all her stuff on the iPad? Life, should that deletion happen, will be nasty, brutish and short!
    Thanks,
    Canada Mike

    This should help: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1296
You definitely do not want to just connect to a new computer.  It will wipe all you music.  You must have your media on your new computer first.  Before connecting your phone, open iTunes and go to Preferences.  Make sure you uncheck the box that says to sync automatically when the phone is connected.  Sync is something you want to be in charge of, especially the first time on a new computer.

  • How do I unsync from an old computer and sync to a new one without losing data or actually syncing.

I have an iPhone 4S. I have always had it "synced" to my family Mac on my own user account, but I kept the "manage music manually" box checked, so it was never actually synced. I recently got my father's old macbook pro. I did not wipe it, but changed all the account information to my own. I plugged my phone into the computer and it would not let me click and drag songs into it. After a little bit of digging I found some settings that would allow me to fix this. However, when I tried applying these a message that said something like this appeared, " Do you want to sync with this library? Your device is previously synced to another library. Syncing with this library will delete all your data. Do you want to continue?" This isn't the exact wording but pretty close. So I tried troubleshooting that for about 3 hours. Eventually, I tried deleting my user account from my family mac entirely through the Admin account. I then tried plugging my phone in to my macbook, and the same thing happened. I have tried everything I have come across except actually backing up wiping and restoring my iPhone. I would prefer not to do this unless there is some way to get every piece of data on my macbook from my phone, as it has music from various libraries and I am not positive it will load everything. Is there any way to fix this?

I had the same problem. I solved by (I use Windows7, should be same for OSX):
    1. copying the library from the older computer to the new computer, at the usual itunes media location.
    2. on new computer's itunes preference (advance), uncheck the box "Copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library"
    3. open up this folder of media copied over from old computer, just drag over to itunes library, cursor will turn into plus sign.
    4. since you unchecked the box for "Copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library", you are in effect only growring the new computer's itunes library's database. Your media files are already under the folder on the new computer.
Now when you connect iphone to this new computer and tells you it wants to erase your iphone's library in order to sync with this one, go ahead, click yes. Why is this ok now? Because you've copied all your files over to the new computer. So when you sync again, your existing files are there on the new computer.
You should export play lists on the older computer to be imported on the new computer though.

  • I've buy a new Air Book for may self :-) and I want to offer my Macbook pro to my sun. I really want to know what should I do to clean all my information in the my old computer?

Backup your data off the machine to a external drive (not TimeMachine) and disconnect.
Create another Admin account in System Preferences and log into it, delete your Admin Account and reboot.
Optional: Open Disk Utility and Erase Free Space (Zero good enough, 7x for military level, both take time)
This should be good enough to remove just your account and data without the hassle of reinstalling the OS and all new programs again.
However if you need that level, then c boot off the 10.6 disk (or command r boot on Lion) and use Disk Utility there to Zero or 7x erase the OSX drive/partition, quit and reinstall OS X. Much more work that likely is unnecessary in your case.
    Good Luck.

I found this article some time ago when I was trying to help someone else in this same situation. This is a copy and paste from the website. The website is provided below for you to read before you try this.
    Plug your phone into iTunes
Click setup as a new device
Immediately unplug your phone from the computer
Give it about 30 seconds and iTunes will give a message (I don’t remember the specific, but regarding you unplugging the device and it not completing)
    Plug your phone back in
Viola! no restore occurred and you can access everything again
This computer has previously synced with an iPhone or another iOS device.

What version of Premiere Elements is still installed activated on the old computer (what is your old operating system)?
What version of Premiere Elements are you going to install and activate on your new computer (what is your new operating system)?
Before you do anything, how many of your computers now have the same Premiere Elements purchased/activated serial number installed on them - just that one old one?
The answers to the above might help us to help you so that you do not have to contact Adobe.
We are not Adobe, rather user to user.

  • HT201250 I use Time Machine to back up my entire computer with my external hard drive. I am getting a brand new iMac this month and was wondering what is the process of using this back up to restore my new computer exactly how my old computer was?

I use Time Machine to back up my entire computer with my external hard drive. I am getting a brand new iMac this month and was wondering what is the process of using this back up to restore my new computer exactly how my old computer was? I want to make sure I will still have various important files on my new computer, like my songs in iTunes, my photos in iPhoto, etc, etc. Thanks so much in advance!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
When you turn on the new iMac for the first time, Setup Assistant will ask you to restore a backup, so connect the external disk and follow steps to restore all your files to your new iMac. Your new Mac will have the same settings and programs as your old computer.
In other cases, I would recommend to restore the whole backup without using Migration Assistant or Setup Assistant, but a Late 2012 iMac uses a special OS X build, so the OS X version that you're using on your old Mac won't work on the new one. • I need to install photoshop cs4 extended from a disk to a new computer because my old computer had a hard drive crash. There is no serial number on the back of the case.  How can I obtain a usable serial number?

I have to install Photoshop CS4 extended on a new computer from a disk because my old computer had a hard drive crash.  There is no serial number on the back of the case.  How can I obtain a usable serial number?

    Find your serial number quickly
You can activate software without following up and registering it... at least that was the case in the past.  The serial number is normally located on the disc case or a box inside the main box.  If you did not purchase the disc from Adobe then it is possible you would have dealt with a redemption code, in which case it would have been up to you to keep a record of the serial number, especially if you did not follow up and register the software.

  • Old computer died, I pod OK, How do I put songs on the new computer?

I totally fried my old computer, hard drive is junk, my I pod is fine but I want to put my music on the new computer. Why wont it let me. I have already downloaded I Tunes and tried it with my daughters mini and first it locked up the computer and then it wiped the I pod and loaded the few songs that were in the I tunes library. What now?

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    iRepo Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • My old computer crashed and I lost my old library of recorded CD's and new music.  I downloaded iTunes again and found my old account info.  How do I add a new CD without deleting all of my music on my iPod?

My old Computer crashed and I lost my old library of recorded CD's and tunes.  iTunes says I must delete everything off my iPod in order to add a new CD.  It also said I already have an account which I was able to locate.  I don't know how to get into my old account.  I think that would solve everything.  I have Windows XP.  I'd appreciate any input.

    No.
All iTunes content on your iPod Touch should be in your iTunes library on your computer, and your iTunes library on your computer should be included with your computer's backup along with all other important data - stored on an external drive or some other external media used for backup purposes only.
When music was purchased on a CD, if the CD was lost and you returned to the store where the CD was purchased with your receipt, were you given a replacement CD?
    The same applies here.

  • How do you transfer Adobe Acrobat XI Pro Student version from old computer to new computer?

i just got a new computer and got my Adobe Acrobat XI Pro Student and Teacher Edition installed from my old computer; however on my new computer, it's only showing up as Adobe Reader and not the Acrobat XI Pro version. I've only had it for less than 3 months and it is NOT a trial version. It is fully paid for. Please help. Thanks!

Same problem here. I deactivated Tech Comm Suite, and when I got my new laptop, I installed the new Tech Comm Suite, which is fully licensed. It won't let me open Acrobat.

Yes, uninstalling is not the same as deactivating. Call support to reset activations.

  • Can I activate Adobe with same license on new computer if old computer crashed?

My work computer, which had Creative Suite 5.5 Design Premium installed on it, recently crashed. I now have a new computer so I am trying to figure out if I can deactivate the license from the old computer and use it for the new one. I've tried calling Adobe but keep getting put on hold. Thanks for any help!

You are allowed to have the software installed and activated on two machines, so there is no need to wait to talk to anyone to get the new machine working.  You can still get the crashed machine deactivated if you like by contacting Adobe Support by chat or phoine.

Customer service is terrible. They don't give us the tools to help ourselves, so we are FORCED to call their service number. Then we get transferred 3 times, then disconnected - just to have to repeat the process again. Adobe recorded phone messages advises "due to high call volume, estimated wait time is 12 minutes". An HOUR AND A HALF later while still waiting on hold, I get disconnected.
I've tried the customer portal. They CLOSED my case without resloving anything or even commenting!
Where is Adobe's accountability?  They don't mind charging high prices for their products, and they certainly wouldn't accept me telling them they'll have to call my 800# and wait on hold in order to get their payment. But once we purchase their products we are a prisoner of this process. There is no web interface to deactivate products. Hard drive crashes do not permit the manual deactivation on our end.
Adobe needs to either answer their phone without disconnecting me, answer their case number number without closing it for no reason, or give us - the customer - the tools to deactivate our own products. If activation can be done over the internet upon installation - then deactivation can't be much more difficult.
I honestly can't imagine how it can be legal to sell a product then cripple an owner from using it.
