New On My Mac calendar in iCal

Hi, I just upgraded to OSX 10.9 and can no longer find where to create a new iCal calendar On My Mac.  I only have the option to create one on iCal.

Okay, upgrading to Mavericks really screwed up my iCal and I've been on Apple Tech Support all night and it's still not finished.  BUT to add an On My Mac calendar (that Mavericks erased when upgrading) back:
log Calenders out of iCloud by deselecting the check box in iCloud preferences
disable all shared Google Cal calendars
open iCal
File >> New Cal >> On My Mac

  • Cannot synchronize "ON MY MAC" calendars in Ical with iCloud.

Cannot synchronize "ON MY MAC" calendars in Ical with iCloud. It works well from iCloud to Ical, and Ical to iCloud except for all the calendars in the "ON MY MAC" group.
    Please help.

That's correct: both in MobileMe and iCloud you cannot 'sync' 'On My Mac' calendars. This is because there is no actual syncing in the literal sense: the calendars are held on the server, and read from there by iCal (think of it as being like webmail and it makes sense).
The only way to 'sync' an 'On My Mac' calendar is to move it to iCloud. This page is written for MobileMe but the principle is the same: please follow the first set of numbered instructions.

  • How do I sync 'on my mac' calendar in ical with icloud or an alternative for my iphone?

I'm using Outlook 2011  with 2 IMAP email addresses, a business email and a gmail address.  The only reason I'm using Outlook instead of Mail, Address Book and iCal is because there were issues with me receiving meeting invites from business colleagues.  Anyway, now I'm using Outlook, my contacts & calendar are no longer synchronising with my iPhone (4).  I'm using the Outlook synch services to copy the Contact info to Address Book and the calendar info to iCal. BUT, the calendar in iCal is 'On My Mac' and doesnt get picked up by iCloud.
Can anyone help with simple suggestions for a wireless solution for keeping Outlook calendar in synch with my phone?  Would upgrading my email account to Exchange be a solution?

Thanks Winston.  I'm aware that the 'on my mac' calendar doesn't get picked up by iCloud.  I'm wondering whether anyone can help with the best alternative solution for synchronisation of phone and Outlook.

  • Restore on my mac calendar

I am using a MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.1.   I have accidentally deleted "on my mac" calendar from Ical with which Outlook for Mac syncs. That calendar with the work and personal categories is gone.  It's not hidden, it's gone. How can I restore it?

Apple doesn't make it easy to create an "On My Mac" calendar if you synchronize your existing calendars with iCloud or another network service.
In the toolbar of the Calendar window, click the Calendars button on the left to show the calendar list in a sidebar, if it's not already showing. You should see a category with the heading Other, and beneath it you may see a calendar named Birthdays. If there's nothing under Other, hover the cursor over the heading and click Show. If there's still no Birthdayscalendar, select from the menu bar
Calendar ▹ Preferences... ▹ General ▹ Show Birthdays calendar
    Close the preferences dialog.
Select the Birthdays calendar in the sidebar. Now right-click or control-click in the empty gray area below the calendar list. From the popup menu, select New Calendar. A calendar named Untitled will be created in the On My Mac category. You can rename it and import events into it, or you can create other "On My Mac" calendars.

  • HOw do I reverse sync iphone's calendar with ical on my mac?

I think I must have selected Mac to iPhone when syncing the first time and now it's set in perpetuity - I can't even merge my calendars, can only enter it all on my Mac's iCal for transfer to my iPhone calendar. If I enter data on my iPhone, then sync, it gets dumped.
So - how can I reset iTunes to make my device primary and Mac secondary? Or how can I reverse sync?

I found two solutions to this problem on a similar discussion topic.

I also experienced the same problem, i.e. iCal not syncing with iPhone. Contrary to most other users who experienced this problem, for me it appeared after updating the MacOS to 10.6.4, long before I updated the iPhone to OS4.
Now, thanks to janice0927 suggestion, it perfectly works, but I had to do one more thing in order to solve the problem:
Reset the sync history on your Mac. This is done in the iSync (located in the Application folder) preferences. After selecting "reset sync history", restart your Mac.
Afterward, follow the same procedure janice0927 suggested. For your convenience, I copied the steps here below:
    1. You are going to be pushing your calendar from ical onto your iphone so you will lose any events that are currently on your iphone but not on ical -- you will need to update ical manually to ensure you don't lose anything important.
    2. Scroll down in the info tab in itunes to the Advanced options at the bottom -- where it says replace the information on my iphone and select calendar.
    3. Sync, check that your iphone calendar matches your ical calendar
    4. Add a new test event to the iphone (the selection you made in advanced should have automatically deselected after you sync'd but check just to make sure)
    5. Sync again -- check if your test event was transferred.
    Good Luck!
    iMac (intel - 2007) Mac OS X (10.6.4) iPhone 3G (OS4)
Hope these work for any of you having the sync problem.

  • Can non-Mac users view iCal calendar posted to iCalx?

Is there a way to publish an iCal calendar to the Web through iCalx that a large group of people can view without having a Mac and iCal? Thanks for any help you might be able to offer. Phil

OK, so let's get to the bottom of this.
I just created a new Calendar in iCal. I clicked the option for it to publish titles and notes. I added www.apple.com to the note field, and then published it to icalx (in a public folder, no password needed). I went to my icalx account and clicked on the html version of the new calendar. I navigated to the date of the new event and clicked on it. A pop-up window shows with my note in it, but the link is not clickable.
So, I went back to iCal and edited the note, changing the note to "http://www.apple.com", refreshed that calendar, went back to icalx and clicked on the event and the pop-up window had a clickable link in it, which took me to Apple's website.
I also did your specific website address and it showed up fine as a clickable link.
Is there anything at all about the above that is different when you try to do it?

Tap and hold a file. When it starts to shake, drag it on top of another file. This will create your folder. By the way, you can't create any nested folders (folders inside of folders).

  • Time zone issue when copying Outlook/Mac invitation to iCal or adding it via iPhone/iPad calendar

    Hello everyone,
I'm facing a situation when every time I receive an invitation comes from a different time zone neither iCal, iPhone’s Calendar nor iPad’s Calendar recognizes it correclty.
Below there are a couple of examples, but before, a few information about my environment: Mac OS X Lion with Outlook for Mac (non-exchange user), I’m using iCloud, and my iPhone and iPad are running iOS5. And BTW, I’m not intending to sync anything with Outlook… I know it does not support iCloud syncing, I just trying to live without that.
    First example.
I got an invitation to a meeting on Monday 5pm-6pm CET, but I’m in GMT-2. It should appear to me as an event to occur on Monday2pm-3pm (GMT-2). In fact only Outlook shows the right time, however when I dragged and dropped that appointment from Outlook’s calendar to iCal it was copied but is did not consider the time zone, that means in the iCal, the appointment was set to occur from 5pm-6pm (GMT-2), instead of 2pm-3pm (GMT-2).
    Second example.
I created an appointment in Outlook by myself, jsut to check if that would be something related to the senders’ computer (Outlook/Windows user), then I set that meeting to occur on Friday 5pm-6pm (UTC+1) and I sent an invitation to a friend of mine (Outlook/Mac User). In my Outlook the appointment was created correctly, that means, on Friday 2pm-3pm (GMT-2), however, when I copied that meeting to iCal it did not consider the time zone, appearing to be Friday 5pm-6pm (GMT-2), and when my friend opened the invitation in his iPhone, which is also set as GMT-2, that also appeared to him as a meeting on Friday 5pm-6pm (GMT-2).
I also checked all possible time zones configurations, in the iPhone, iPad, iCloud and in my MacBook (iCal and Outlook)…all time zones are enabled and configured as GMT-2.
As an last shoot, I decided to download a third-party software, which is integrated with iCal and iCloud, in order to check if that could be an Apple’s issue. I downloaded and installed the BusyCal (from BusyMac). And guess what?! When I dragged & dropped the same meetings I described above from Outlook to BusyCal, it worked perfectly!! And BusyCal sent the proper information to iCal and my iPhone/iPad over iCloud. Which means: #1 there would be no issue with my configurations, and #2 BusyCal does really takes into consideration time zones, which is something that Apple’s calendars looks like do not.
It will not solve the issue I'm having with my mobile devices, but at least is a workaround… BTW, an expensive workaround, because BusyCal costs $49, by now I’m using the 30 days trial version.
So friends, is there anyone who could help to find a real solution J , or at least, a free workaround L
Thank you in advance and I apologize for this “article”.
PS: I've been using Mac for 4 years now, and this is the first time I was stucked ina situation like that... and I don't know who to blame... Microsoft or Apple? This I know... syncing Apple's calendars with Microsoft's calendars, should be effortless... and it is always a pain in... that place...

I am having a similar problem:  invitations sent (presumably from outlook), when accepted from my iPad, appear in the calendar with the wrong time zone.
this actually happens even when the meeting is in the same time zone I'm in:  I am in GMT -5, and even when the meeting is in GMT-5, it defaults to GMT (or, in some instances, PST).  My settings have my time zone set correctly.
    Any help much appreciated.
PS:  Using iPad original wit iOS5

  • Microsoft Exchange shared calendars through iCal on iPad or Mac

This is surely not an original question, but -
My company uses Microsoft Exchange.  I have synced it to my iPad for calendar, contacts, and email, and it works very well.
We also use shared calendars, and I utilize this feature often via Outlook on my PC.  However ...
    1.  I'd like to be able to view MS Exchange shared calendars on iCal on my iPad.  Is this possible?  Obviously, no one will grant me permission to view their contacts or emails, but calendar-only is what we share.  Is this possible?
    2.  Is it possible to view MS Exchange shared calendars through iCal on a Mac?  I have a colleague who has an iMac with iCal synced to Exchange and it works great.  However, we do not know how to view shared calendars (from MS Exchange) through iCal.  Again, we want to share calendars-only - no email or contacts.  Can anyone help with this?
    THANKS SO MUCH FOR HELP.

  • New Mac user/ minor iCal problem...

Hi, I am a new Mac user and experiencing the following problem with iCal:
when my Mac starts, the iCal icon in the dock, always displays a past date, July 18 always I think it is.
Is this a common thing or is there a way that I can change the iCal icon in the dock as to where it correctly displays the current date?

    Welcome to the Mac Scott.
I'm sorry to say that date displays on everyone's Mac until iCal is running. Once iCal is running it displays the correct date.
If you want to jump right in I believe there is a "fix" of sorts published at macosxhints: http://www.macosxhints.com
Alternatively, you could simply set iCal to start at login, then a few moments after login the date will be correct.

  • I have an iMac with 10.9.1 and an iPhone 5 also updated to the newest system and I cannot get a sync set up between Ical and the iPhone or Outlook 2011 mac calendar with the iphone

I have an iMac with 10.9.1 and an iPhone 5 also updated to the newest system and I cannot get a sync set up between Ical and the iPhone or Outlook 2011 mac calendar with the iphone. I would perfer using outlook but will settle for the Imac calendar

It depends on what iMac you have. If it is an old PPC (G4 orG5) iMac then no further upgrades are possible. If it an Intel iMac:
Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
(NB: PowerPC applications can still be run in Snow Leopard using Rosetta, but they will not work in later versions of OS X.)
The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard to bring it up to 10.6.8, or download the combo update from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Check via Software Update whether any further updates are required, particularly to iTunes.
You should now see the App Store icon in iTunes, and you now need to set up your account:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4479
You can now upgrade to Mavericks OS 10.9 for free IF you have one of the following Macs, with not less than 2GB of RAM, and at least 8GB of available space on your hard drive:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
    MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later), (15-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later), (17-inch, Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac Mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    iCloud system requirements:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4759
If you cannot run Mavericks you can purchase the code to use to download Lion from the App Store (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard):
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion
    or Mountain Lion:

Does iCal has alert feature like in Mac Calendar?
In the Mac Calendar, you can set a alarm for an event to send an e-mail at 15 minutes before event. Is it possible to do same in iPad iCal?

I know it will pop up an alert message, but is it possible to get it to send out an e-mail message instead? If it is possible, could you tell me how to do it in the iPad? I seem to be only able to make it pop out a message but not able to make it sends out an e-mail. Thanks.

Perhaps you could try using iCloud to coordinate your calendars rather than syncing with iTunes.

Can anyone help me please? Is this an iDisk problem? I have closed down and rebooted both machines but this hasn't made any difference.

I would also like to know what to do about this as I am having the exact same problem.
