New Oracleasm Libraries not detecting ASM drives consistently

Has anyone run into problems with the new Oracle ASMLib not detecting ASM drives on load and on scandisks commands? My /etc/sysconfig/oracleasm is the standard defaults that I used with the previous version of ASMLib, i.e. I do not specify the exclude or scanorder.
I have noticed that if I run scandisk while specifying the LUN in question, then ASMLib will detect the drive properly. I have also noticed that if I run the "scandisks" multiple times (100's), then it will at times find the proper ASM disks. I have played with various settings in the /etc/sysconfig/oracleasm file as well with no luck on getting consistent ASMLib detection.
The workaround I have for now is to put a "oracleasm scandisks /dev/sd*1" into my /etc/rc.d/rc.local file.
System is HP BL460c running Red Hat 5.2 with QLogic Driver version 8.01.07.25-fo

Sergio,
My issue is with the 2.0.5 Version of ASMLib. Previously, I was using oracleasm-2.6.18-92.el5-2.0.4-1.el5.x86_64.rpm. Please see the first section of the screen output for the complete list or Oracleasm installed rpms (latest from OTN). Also, this node was after an immediate OS build with no databases or other activity being done on the node while I attempt to scandisks. I can't imagine that I have drives being repeatedly open/closed.
I do have the following in my /var/log/oracleasm file, but the running of oracleasm was done by the root user and the permissions on the devices have not really changed between 2.0.5 and the older 2.0.4 that I have been using.
Loading module "oracleasm": oracleasm

    Hey ems6,
You might need to copy the installer to the USB disk on another computer.
    Hope that helps.

  • NEED HELP, old hard disk failed, new hard disk not detected.

My hard disk died, not working, not detected when I restart with the MacOS X DVD and attempt to reinstall.
I have bought a new hard drive, 160 GB ATA - IDE Samsung drive, and carefully replaced it following service manual instructions. All connectors have been carfully but firmly reconnected, and the new hard disk is not detected.
What can i do?? where is the problem??
Thank you very much for your help.

Do you know that the new hard drive is working? As it's new chances are it is, just asking .... do you know it's powering up? If you replug the old not working hard drive in, is it recognized? (this is where you don't put the computer back together, but just replace the hard drive and sort of close it back up, but don't use any bolts close the case). Plus you can feel or clearly hear if the drive is starting up or not.

  • HP dv4t not detecting hard drive, please help!

Hello, its been just a little over a year since I've bought my HP dvt, and of course the problems start as soon as my warranty has ended.. It's been working fairly fine most of the year, and then just all of a sudden while not even doing anything of importance on computer last week I got a blue screen error..
Ever since then I have had so much problems. At first it just started out with closing the screen and reopening it crashed the laptop in a couple minutes..
The main problem now is, it just does not detect the hard drive when booting up! Sometimes (rarely) it does though.. I thought it was a windows problem, so I did fresh clean install of Windows 7 and reformatted the hard drive. Then I ran CHKDSK and it did it stuff and said volume clean at the end.. It worked perfectly for a couple of hours, was able to close screen and open with no problems. I downloaded "Hard drive sentinel" to monitor my hdd health, and it said 90% which is apparently excellent. Yet as I was installing adobe reader, it crashed, got the blue screen of death and has not been able to boot up since
Can anyone tell what is the problem with it? Anyone else have similar problem? I've tried to reformat again with CD but it doesnt even recognize any drive to install on..
Important thing to note is that, in the BIOS screen when i run the HARD DISK TEST, it does recognize it! So i dont understand why it doesn't load the operating system or cant see the hard drive anywhere else!!
What is at fault even? Is the motherboard dead? Althought the bios screen loads fine so does that mean its OK? Is it the hard drive? CHKDSK and the hdd health monitor thing said it was ok right before the crashes..
Please help, I have my first computer science lab in like 2 days with my laptop breaking just a couple days before it with barely any money left to buy a new laptop

Time to replace your Hard Drive. BACK UP NOW!!!
This will be the 3rd HD in a new HP HDX 18 for me (6 months old).
Open up the HD bay and take a look at the model of the HD.
If it is a SEAGATE MOMENTUS 7200.4  they are known to fail in as little as 1 month from install, and do not last more than 6 months.
Google the brand and you will see that most people are reccomending that you remove the SEAGATE product ASAP (data recovery is next to impossible) and replace it with something else.
I had just finished setting up the PC as I wanted it, OS, programs / Bios, software upgrades, then without warning the 2nd HD went.
I lost EVERYTHING in my C drive, was just preparing to do a full BU and Mirror Image after deleting both from my D and External Drive.
HP is replacing one piece of crap with another, I will be shopping for a different brand for the C drive after the laptop comes back from repair.
There seems to be no end to this BS with SEAGATE drives.
    DO A FULL BU NOW!!!

  • MacBook Pro not detecting flash drive

    Hello,
I have a MacBook Pro laptop (latest model) and I've encountered a bit of a problem with it.
When I plug a USB flash drive into either of the USB ports on the laptop, the computer fails to detect the drive and show it on the desktop.
However, when connected to my Thunderbolt Display and with the USB drive connected through the monitor or even through the keyboard (which is connect to the monitor) the laptop detects the USB drive without any issues. Also when I connect the keyboard directly into the laptop via USB and then plug the USB drive into the keyboard it detects it just fine.
The problem only occurs when plugging the USB drive directly into one of the laptop ports.
Any suggestions on how I can fix this?
    Thank you

Yeah, it's just one drive. I think I figured out what the problem is. The USB drive is very old and cheap, most likely USB 2.0 but the ports on the MacBook Pro are USB 3.0 so there might be a compatibility problem.
In theory that should not be the case since USB3 is supposed to be backwards compatible to USB2.  Perhaps the solution is to copy the data to a new device and trash the old drive.  At least the cost will not be excessive.
    Ciao.

  • Logic Board Does Not Detect Hard Drive???

Problem on startup shows "Folder with (?) Mark on it". Tried to use Disk Utility but it does not detect. Replaced drive and still nothing. Use the drive as external and it boots normal. It looks like it's something else. I have order a new cable connection that goes from the logic board to the hard drive, as it's cheaper to obtain than a logic board, but lets just say that it wasnt that and there is a problem with the logic board, can I buy a "9.5 mm SATA Optical Bay SATA Hard Drive Enclosure" to place the hard drive and boot from it? When I went into Disk Utility it did detected the DVD drive, so I know that portion of the logic board works fine. I don't use or need the DVD drive, and wondering if I can do this, it cost less than buying a logic board.
Please let me know if this is possible, Thanks in advance.

Well logic board seems faulty from the connecting point of the hard drive but not from the optical drive. Optical drive is detected by the Disk Utility, but not the hard drive, and thats why I was thinking of using the optical bay to run the machine.

  • *SOLVED* Device not detected/ No driver installed for X-FI Fatal

OK!!!! the only reason I signed up here was to post that I have (for me) solved my problem.
Before I get into details this occurred on a fresh system with latest drivers for hardware used.
The problem was installing my X-Fi card on my 680i m/b (striker extreme).. when I would install the driver it would simply crash the computer and when it started up the hardware was not detected to used the software and the device manager said no driver installed.. I tried everything.. I installed the driver in safe mode (yay it worked without crashing) then I booted for windows only to have it blue screen for a second and restart... repeating the cycle.. so i reinstalled windows again... I tried installing the driver different ways in windows.. nothing worked... I gave up...
    BUT!!!
today while i was at work I decided I would try one last thing.
this is what got it going. I have SLI 8800ultras that covered the PCI slot on the bottom of my board and I though I would try the card in this slot to see if it worked there... so I disabled SLI took out my bottom card put in the sound card in the bottom slot, installed the driver... It installed 00% no crash... even better it worked after the restart!!!... so then I had to test if it worked in the top slot so I powered down, moved it up to my top PCI slot and windows auto set the driver for it (as it was already installed) It worked in the top slot now... Finally I put in the second 8800 to make sure it worked with this slot in use... It still worked fine with SLI enabled. because I was unhappy with the mess I made installing drivers all the time as I did with the many crashes I decided to do a fresh install of windows making this card work from the start so here is what you need to do if you have a 680i board with SLI. this is exactly what i did with my fresh install.
    install only one GPU card..
Put the X-FI in a different slot that isn't giving you problems
    Install windows
    Install service pack 2
    install your chipset drivers
    install sound card drivers
power down, change sound card to permanent slot
    test - power down
put in the second GPU card
    install GPU drivers
Good luck you all having this problem.. I hope my solution helps you.
    Bryan

    I think I?got a similar?problem earlier today when I was messing around with?onboard audio?that I later removed and after unplugging a?USB headset.
Have you checked the device manager, is there any higlighted hardware that has a exclamation mark next to it.
I fixed the issue by simply uninstalling the WDM device with the exclamation mark and restarted.

  • [SOLVED] k3b does not detect optical drive

    Hello,
I am running Arch Linux x86_64 with recent updates. I have k3b 2.0.3 and when I launch it I get message that it does not detect my optical drive, and I need hal daemon. I checked, udev is running, node in dev /dev/sr0 has root.optical, my user is in optical group. How do I fix this? I want to burn BluRay disk, maybe k3b even does not support it? And is there a better tool for optical discs than k3b? I use KDE 4 so Qt tool would be nice

  • My internal webcam on HP EliteBook 8460w not detected in device manager and not detected by driver

    Hello all...
I just bought HP EliteBook 8460w, after I installed all the program and driver I find out that the internal webcam is not working. When I have check in the device manager the webcam is not listed. Then I tried to download the newest software/driver of it, it appears a message box that mention the webcam is not detected, please enable it from the bios. Then I checked from the bios, the webcam is not listed to be enable. Afterward, I was wonder maybe the bios is not up to date. Then I updated the bios, but still after I checked, the webcam is still not listed to be enable.
So please if anyone have the same experience or might know some answer or solution for it, I would be very happy to try. Its starting to get on my nerve.
    Thank you very much before....
    Cheers,
    Denmuh

Hi, I figured out how to get the camera working on my 8460w laptop.  I am running Windows XP SP3.  No guarantee this is what will fix yours, but here's what I did:
I installed these two drivers from the HP.COM site:
    First -HP Universal Camera Driver
    link: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=32...
Second -HP High Definition (HD) Webcam Firmware
    link: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=32...
Control Panel - System - Harware - Device Manager
Under Imaging Devices category, look for an existing camera device line.
    Uninstall this device.
Then after a few moments, Windows recognized the camera again and automatically installed it with the right drivers (since it is really just a device connected through an internal USB port).
    Hope this helps you too.

  • New battery is not detected on Satellite A300

    Hello every body
I had this problem with my laptop Satellite A300 (PSAJ4E). I bought a new battery and started my laptop. I have Windows Vista.
The battery is not detected. When I remove the charger its work well but with indicator of low battery so Im update my BIOS but the problem is still there.
So I look around and tried to disable Microsoft in device manger.
Still not fixed properly. I removed charger and insert it again.
It shows the AC power supply but no charge.

    hi king_soft,
    sold a third party battery?
in some cases the used controller (battery) is not recognised by your system...
you can try this (without any promisses):
shut down notebook, remove battery, connect ac-adapter and make sure unit is powered
    insert battery and wait 24hours
    disconnect ac-adapter and remove battery
switch machine on to make it fully discharged (some components holding electricity)
insert battery and start the unit
check powermanager or energy options if the battery is recognised...
never open up a battery pack - it's really dangerous!
if the battery pack is recognised by the system - you won!
if not make sure that your ac-adapter supplies the right voltage/current to your system
test another battery to make sure the loading device (notebook) is working properly
    if so exchange battery pack!

  • [SOLVED] BIOS not detecting USB Drives after i installed Arch

SOLVED: In BIOS under 'Advanced' disable 'Fast BIOS Mode'.
    Original post:
    Hi there!
I'm fairly new to the arch (and linux) scene and just setup my Samsung 530U3B with a brand new installation of arch. Everything went fine and the system is running flawlessly. Almost.
I just happend to notice that BIOS is not checking for USB drives anymore, it just somehow skips that part. If enter the boot selection, the bootable USB drive won't show up. Neither does it show up in BIOS setup. I tried to boot with the same USB drive that i used to install arch just yesterday, the live media does not boot - the drive doesn't even blink. The boot priority is set to usb drive first, the boot selection screen (hammering f10 during boot) doesn't give me any other option than to boot from the normal SSD. Also, prior to the arch installation (came with w7 installed) the BIOS screen would stay for about 2seconds and then proceed to boot - this doesn't happen anymore. When i press the power button greeted by the grub bootloader in about 1s.
I tried 2 different usb drives, both with the arch iso (same that i used to install the currently running OS, downloaded yesterday). The drives also show up once my arch is booted (starting to blink just after i hit enter in grub). Also, both drives boot without a problem on my desktop computer.
    Anyone got any ideas?
I don't really now what kinda of information would be helpful so i'm just dumping stuff i know:
BIOS: Phoenix SecureCore Tiano Version 04XK
    Machine: Samsung 530U3B
    SSD: Samsung MZ7PC128HAFU-000
ISO used to install (checksum ok): archlinux-2012.07.15-netinstall-dual.iso

    Welcome to the forum.
If you just set the USB stick to be first in the boot order, the next option (from the list) takes its place the moment you unplug it. You need to set the BIOS to boot from your equivalent of "Removable Devices" first, "Internal Drives" second and "Optical Drives" third.
The USB stick doesn't show up at all. I set the priority as follows:
    1. USB HDD
    2. USB FDD
    3. USB CD
    4. SATA CD
    5. SATA HDD
    6. NETWORK
I used that same configuration to install arch. USB doesn't seem to initialize at all. Also, if i enter "usb" in the grub commandline, no devices are listed.
    Thanks!
    UPDATE:
I just figured it out. In my BIOS under 'Advanced' the 'Fast BIOS Mode' was enabled, once i disabled it, everything went fine. I don't remember changing that option. Silly me.
    Sorry for your time
