New Outlook profile causes iPod contacts to disappear during first sync

I'm hoping someone can help me here please? I have approx 150 contacts missing from my iPod.
The problems began with a corrupt windows profile in Windows Vista. Got the system back up and running with a new profile and copied the iTunes data directory to the same location on the new profile.
I also had to create a new Microsoft Outlook profile, of course there are no contacts in the new Outlook profile but at least they still exist on my iPod.
After some consultation with the local Apple store they said that the contacts should syncronise back to Outlook.
Wrong ... the opposite happened.
After plugging the iPod into the PC, iTunes started and the iPod started to backup and then sync. It uploaded a movie that was downloaded directly to the iPod and all seemed fine. Checked Contacts on my iPod and all have deleted. It appears the Ipod saw no entries in Outlook and it decided it had to appear the same ... I had no warning of deletion or changes before hand!!!!
Right, I have the backup before the problem sync. Now, posts about backups seem to say that it restores to as before the problem. When I run the restore utility it wants to wipe my iPod, download the latest OS and then I can pick the retore ...... I am now very wary as I've already had one screw up and really need to know if it will work as expected before continuing. Can anyone advise please?
Also, if the restore works and I have my contacts on the iPod how do I get them to Outlook rather than they delete.
Sorry for the long post.
Cheers

40 min international Call to america:
the iPod is unable to work with smart playlists.
Only solution: 'converting' it into a static playlist by removing the "update automatically" tick at the smart playlist's options.
too bad =(

    Hi, BartleyBauer.
If the media that you are attempting to sync plays in iTunes, try removing the preference to sync music as this remove the media from the device.  Once this is done, try syncing the media again.

You can share the same Apple ID for purchasng form the iTunes and app stores without any problems, but you should all used separate iCloud accounts with separate Apple IDs.  (You are not required to use the same ID for iCloud and other services as you do for the iTunes store.)  This will prevent you from ending up with merged data.  You should also use separate Apple IDs for iMessage and FaceTime or you will end up getting each other's text messages and FaceTime calls.

  • New Outlook Profile no Sync

I ahve a 755 and I have a new profilein Outlook due to a new job.  I tried to sync my  palm but got the OLERR errors and the message "This handheld is associated with a different Outlook profile. To synchronize with that profile, close Outlook and synchronize again. To use this device with the current Outlook profile, open the HotSync custom dialog and change the conduit settings to use this Outlook profile. See the Outlook conduit help for details. "  I tried to look for where to identify the new profile as acceptable, but was unsuccessful.
    Can someone direct me?

  • Getting a new computer - anything I need to be aware on first sync?

    Hi all,
I am getting a new PC in about a week. Other than activating my itunes account is there anything I need to do to ensure my data, apps, musics, calendar (not syncing calendar with anything - just have been inputting events into calendar on the iphone), etc. are not lost when I do my first sync?
I will have the same music on the new pc - really losing the music isn't a big deal, I am more concerned with losing apps (and there associated data) and my calendar info.
Will I have to re-download all the apps to my pc first?
    Thanks a lot.

Just be sure to authorize your new PC first in iTunes before you do anything.

  • New Itunes update causing Ipod crashes

Since installing 10.6, Itunes has now regularly crashed when my Ipod is plugged in, leading me to have to force quit after giving it ample time to right itself (which it never does). This of course has wiped my ipod down, even tho DiskWarrior and Disk Utility recognize the drive, tell me its ok, and has the correct number of files, etc. But whenever i try and open Itunes, it crashes, tells me my Ipod is corrupt and needs to be restored, which I do. Then it works fine for a while, but then a day or so later I will plug it in and kapoof, nothing on my ipod, itunes hangs up, and so on. Its been going on for a couple weeks now, and I have tried rolling back to Itunes 10.2 which I have on my Time Machine backup, but it makes it laborious as I have to import the text files of my playlists one at a time, and being that i have a hundred or so playlists, i just give up.
I have done all the permissions correcting, rebuilt directory on my ipod, done various wipes of the drive, and so on, and I am out of ideas. Anyone else have this problem or any solutions?

meh. i am tired of itunes. there is my solution. uninstalling it once and for all, as it is a memory hog and has always given me problems when i update it, and so forth. never had these kinds of issues with it, but i need my music and need to be able to listen to it, so that's my solution. thanks.

  • ITunes 8 upgrade caused iPod Nano to disappear

After upgrading my iTunes to the latest version (in Vista) - my iPod Nano is no longer being seen by either Windows or iTunes. The Nano is charging, but not visible. I have tried uninstalling iTunes, and going back to older versions, but my iPod won't come back. Help!

    Hi again,
Unfortunately, I have already checked through that page, and done many an uninstall/reinstall of different versions. Just tried doing another reinstall with my security systems off as well - unfortunately no luck there either.
Any other ideas? The iPod, which has it's normal screen at first, changes to the big green charged battery as soon as iTunes starts up - but it's still not seen.

  • Assigned Contact Ringtones Disappear when I Sync the Phone

Does anyone know if this is specific to Outlook? I have tried setting them up repeatedly only to have them erased each time I sync the phone. Is there a setting I may be missing?

Are you having outlook synch to the phone? If so, I am not sure what the problem can be. Maybe do a search on Synching outlook on the phone and see what problems they were having and how they worked around it. May find what you need there.

i have an ipod with over 1200 songs on it. my computer crashed and i had not backed anything on it up. when i reinstalled my operating system - and therefore itunes - i selected to transfer the purchases from my ipod, but only 200 + songs appear in my itunes library off my ipod. however all 1200 remain on my ipod. these are all files downloaded from itunes. how to i get everything to match up so i can create accurate playlists, etc???

    Hello there,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
There are several ways you can pull the music off your iPod and onto iTunes. The first link below provides step-by-step instructions for a direct method if you have a PC as well as a few third party applications (for both the Mac and PC) if you choose to go that route instead.
You can also do a simple Google search for "copy music from iPod to computer" and you should receive a number of sites that can help you out.
Just make sure that when you have your iPod plugged into your computer, that you don't hit "Erase and Sync" before completing the task of copying your music over.
Also, if you have any purchased music, you will probably have to re-authorize your computer by heading to the Store drop down menu and choosing "Authorize computer."

  • Music disappeared after first sync with iOS 7

I synced my iPad 2 to my Windows 7 computer for the first time since I downloaded iOS 7 and now, 90% of my music is greyed out in my music library. And when I plug it into my computer and try to play the song from my iPad in iTunes, it shows the exclamation point in a circle. Help!!

oh yes and on a related note all the calendars that once synced to the iPod are now gone on the iPod. only the 2 calendar items i created on the iPod are there, and they are NOT in the iCal itself.

  • Cannot save new outlook contacts or access Global Address List

I have outlook 2007 connected via VPN to exchange server.  I can
    1) Send and receive emails
    2) Edit contacts that have already been created some time ago
    3) Copy and paste existing contacts
However, when I try and save a new contact it says the Microsoft exchange server is not available. I am connected because I am showing as connected and contacts created via the outlook web app appear almost immediately in my Outlook.  However,
I cannot save any edits to these but can copy and paste as a whole record.
Also, I cannot access the Global Address Book at all.
Does anyone know what the problem could be?
    Thanks

  • Outlook prompts creds after migration, unless new windows profile created

    HI!
Outlook keeps prompting credentials after migration for some users. When we create new windows profile for this user, all going well. Autodiscover in browser also keeps prompting for password.
I checked credential manager (there are no passwords stored), also tried new outlook profile (no help).
    Any ideas?

2010 SP2 migrated to 2010 SP3. We already tried changing authentications. The problem occurs for random users (not all users). Auth settings on autodiscover virtual directory: Anonymous, Windows, Basic. Auth on exchange (get-autodiscovervirtualdirectory):
    Basic, NTLM, WindowsINtegrated.
Also i did not mention early - the problem obviously with autodiscover. I can't get autodiscover.xml using browser (keeps prompting for credentials). From another winows profile on the same computer with the same mailbox all going well. So I don't understand
    where should I look to.

  • 2 iPhone Household w/ Outlook Profile Sync Issues with iTunes beyond 7.3.1

I’m huge Apple supporter and have to say this is the most frustrating computer issue I have ever come across. My wife and I both have iPhones and we sync them to the same pc except different Outlook profiles. iTunes 7.3.1 works fine when we sync our iPhones on each of out Outlook profiles, anything beyond 7.3.1 will automatically sync my contacts and calendar directly to her phone. It’s as if iTunes cannot distinguish between the two outlook profiles on the newer iTunes versions. I have tried both Outlook 2003 and 2007 with newer iTunes, and it's still not able to distinguish the two profiles.
    Any would be greatly appreciated.

i have a similar problem, having one good and one bad outlook profile. Used to sync just fine against the good one (which is called 'new profile). new version is defaulting against the bad one, which has none of my contacts...
where does one setup which named profile is to be used?
    thank you! any help appreciated!
