New Owner of Macbook Pro

I just purchased a Macbook Pro from an individual. He set the computer up when he purchased it from Apple and as such, his name is listed in all the system settings. How do I change this to my name and information.
What I've done: I've gone into System Preferences and created a new user account with my name and then deleted his old one. However, this has not taken his name the system settings on anything but the user account.
I don't suppose this is life threatening, I'm just curious as to how to do it.
Thanks!

Is it then possible to make copy, make a disk image, something of a program that I have loaded on the my old Macbook? I don't have the install disks anymore.
Will Carbon Copy Cloner do this or Disk Utility?
Thanks for your help!
You could copy the program to another disk, but the problem is that you won't be able to drag over all the preferences and other information.
I recommend you use Migration assistant via firewire to load up all the programs and data from your old MBP to the new one.
And as everyone said, you need those original disks. You'll be toast without them.

  • New owner of macbook pro wants to transfer to it control and info from pb

    Hi there,
Wanting to run my new machine exactly with the setup of my old one and using the migration assistant, I have done the target mode with firewire. At the end there was a warning saying some files didn't transfer. (They were music plugins. Is that due to the new intel machine? ) I see my the contents of my old computer under my name under users on the new machine. It has red mark on the folders and when I try to open them , they say I don't have permission.
How do I make the new computer be the exact mirror of the old one? Is this the process to do that? I want to run all my applications from the old one, on the new one.
    thanks,

That's impossible except for software that depends on the processor rather remotely, or already updated software with Universal code. Their processors are distinct enough that you will see some differences. Drivers may have to be updated, and some versions of software that have no Universal code that depend on drivers and plugins will not run on the newer machines until upgraded to Universal code. • TS1501 transferring a small batch of photos from the new ipad to macbook pro (this way you can upload one album at a time, file them into a new album on macbook pro)  Pls. advise.

How can I transfer a small batch of photos from the new ipad to macbook pro?  In theory, I should be able to keep my albums together this way (once uploaded to macbook pro, i can easily file them into a new album on macbook pro.)  Not working for me!  Macbook pro does include iphoto.  I had no problem uploading ALL photos (3 or 4,000.)  Help!  Goal is to keep albums together.

    Hi all,
    Goal:  Backing up photos!
Hope:  Transfer ALBUMS from ipad to external drive (via macbook pro)
Is this possible?  Or will I have to create a file name for each of my thousands of photos?
    UGH!
    HELP!

  • Can I connect my thunderbolt display's power cable to supply power to the new retina display macbook pro?

I'm planning to buy a new retina display macbook pro, but I have a thunderbolt display and I use the display's power cable to supply the power to a macbook air. As the power connector on the new macbook pro is differet, It looks to me that I won't be able to connect it to the new computer. I'm I correct?

You'll just need this adapter, which you can buy or order with the computer:

I have read that new purchases of macbook pro will get free upgrade to LION OS. When and how do I go about this?

    http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2011/06/06lion.html
The Mac OS X Lion Up-To-Date upgrade is available at no additional charge via the Mac App Store to all customers who purchased a qualifying new Mac system from Apple or an Apple Authorized Reseller on or after June 6, 2011. Users must request their Up-To-Date upgrade within 30 days of purchase of their Mac computer. Customers who purchase a qualifying Mac between June 6, 2011 and the date when Lion is available in the Mac App Store will have 30 days from Lion’s official release date to make a request.
Currently that's the only information available. I suspect more will be posted as we get closer to launch.

  • I'm new to the macbook pro

I'm new to the macbook pro and my stupidity let me attempt to personalize it before reading the user manual....I tried dragging an icon from the dock to the desktop(the same way you create a desktop shortcut with windows), it disappeared & now I can't find it again. Is there any way to retrieve it and how would I go about doing it?

Just go to your Applications folder, find the app you want in the Dock and drag it there. It creates an alias to the app.

  • HT3053 How long should I charged new battery in MacBook pro?

How long should I charged new battery in MacBook pro?

You can leave it plugged in all the time if you wish.
Once your Macbook is fully charged, it stops charging.
You can see this if you click on your apple logo, about this mac, more info, system report, power.
In any event, it is also a good idea to use your Macbook under it's own power to keep the battery in optimal condition.
As much as possible, try not to fully discharge your battery.  It could do more harm than good to your Macbook.
Good luck and enjoy your macbook

  • New user of Macbook Pro...

I am new user of Macbook Pro... It was inherited by a cousin who is now away in another country. I am having a tough time here...
    1. How to determine the model & OS?
    2. No sound - when i click 'system preferences' and go to sound, it shows 'selected device has no output control'
    3. How can i maximize the screen?
    4. Is there any commands for 'cut & paste'?
    5. I don't see any CD drive....how does this work?
    6. Any commands to drag, without a mouse?
    7. Is there any website where i can get a free tutorial?
    Can some1 help me?
    Thanks.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    1. How to determine the model & OS?
Go to Apple menu -> About This Mac -> More Info and look at the System info.
It will tell you the model ID#, and serial number.
The serial number has only three important characters, labelled A,B,C below:
    xxABCxxxx
These are the last digit of the year, and the week of the year it was built.
    Model ID# guide is here:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/by_capability/mac-specs-by-machine-model-machine -id.html
    2. No sound - when i click 'system preferences' and go to sound, it shows 'selected device has no output control'
Sometimes this can be fixed one of three methods:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300832
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
If none of the above works, you may have a hardware malfunction in your sound port. Note, if you have something connected to your audio port, it only play out through one output at a time. It does support stereo and 5.1 audio with the appropriate cables.
    3. How can i maximize the screen?
    This can mean two things:
    - You want to maximize the real estate where all the windows belong. This is done by increasing the resolution on Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Displays.
    - If you mean just enlarge windows, use the green button in the upper left to resize the window so it fits on the screen. Then the bottom right hand corner is used to resize the widnow in question.
    4. Is there any commands for 'cut & paste'?
Edit menu has those commands. To the right of any command where a cloverleaf icon is represented, the Command key or Apple logo key is used in conjunction with the said key to issue the command.
    5. I don't see any CD drive....how does this work?
The CD drive is normally below the wristpad on the right side. It is slot loading like that found in some automobile CD players. It supports DVD and CD burning and playback, be careful about the media used:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2446?viewlocale=en_US
    6. Any commands to drag, without a mouse?
Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Keyboard & Mouse -> Trackpad let you control how you tap two fingers on the trackpad simultaneously to drag.
    7. Is there any website where i can get a free tutorial?
Select the Happy face on the translucent toolbar. You now will have a menu called Finder at the top of the screen. Use the Help menu to search topics.
Or post to the relevant OS page, and someone will gladly help you on this board.

  • Just got a new "late 2013" Macbook Pro Retina, want to install Windows! (Newbie!)

    Hello everyone!
I am brand new to the Apple Community and would like to pick at some brains here!
I just recently bought a new "late 2013" Macbook Pro here and would like to run Microsoft OneNote on my macbook. I have 2 predictaments though!
    1. Which Windows OS is recommended? I searched around and seem to have found that alot of people are having issues with the Windows 8.1 version. Should I just stick to Windows 7?
    2. Also, I know that the Macbook Pro does not have an optical drive; what is the best way to go on about getting the Windows 7 ISO onto a thumbdrive? Would I have to do it through another computer and burn the ISO on the thumbdrive there? Or is there a way to purchase Windows from my Macbook and download from the sellers website and just run Bootcamp to burn the image onto there?
Thank you and I look forward to joining this community!
    Don

I am new to the community as well but have been an apple genuis for a while.  The way I put windows on my mac (late 2012 pro) last year was I bought windows 7, and used bootcamp to install it.  I would have someone at best buy or a tech store do it for you though. If you dont want to pay $200 for windows 7, you can just buy an app called parallels (also at like a best buy) and use that.  I believe it is around $75 but not sure.  Hope this helps

  • Why is 64 bit Windows 7 Professional running so slow on my new 2011 15" Macbook Pro?

I installed 64 bit Windows 7 Professional onto my new 2011 15" Macbook Pro and while the Mac partition runs fine, everything about the Windows partition seems to be slow.  There's hangups, random loading icons for processes that shouldn't require any work at all (even browsing through Windows Explorer will do this from time to time).  I don't undertand why this is happening, I thought running 64 bit would unleash the full power of my new Mac.  Should I just wipe it and do a clean install of Windows 7 32 bit instead?  I've never had issues/compatibility problems with installations of 32 bit Windows.

Well if you just installed it, then perhaps it's not validated yet and when it does there will be Windows Updates to increase the performance.
I'm sure you followed all the Bootcamp instructions about installing the Apple drivers and all that.
The only thing I can suggest is you reinstall it again after a few days and all the Windows Updates applied if it speeds up or not. Keep hitting it over and over. Make sure you have the free Microsoft Security Essentials installed or you'll get pwned really fast.
Also you have to remember that when Bootcamp carves out a Windows partition it's doing so at the bottom slowest part of your hard drive, the innermost sectors which are much smaller than the sectors OS X uses, therefore Windows will always be a bit slower than OS X, and there really isn't anything you can do about it unless you had a SSD.
I don't think you can install 32 bit Windows, even though it may run, it's only going to use half the registers of your 64bit processors.
Windows 7 64 bit runs fine in my virtual machine, I even get over 45 fps on Cube 2 Sauerbraten, but of course it's a rather light 3D game.
If you got the 2.0 Ghz 15" MacBook Pro, that could explain things, it's has a rather weak video card.
