New Pages and Address Merge

What happened to Address Merge Fields in the new pages? I was use to drag and drop from address book.

Pages 4.3 should still be in an iWorks folder within your Applications folder. Use that unitl Apple gets Pages 5 in order.

They changed Final Cut Pro, so now I use Premier Pro
Aperture 3 has been left behind so now I moved to Lightroom 4.
And now Pages 5 does not have a vital component, so back to Word.

Take a look at the FileSelector
First make sure the FileSelector is expanded so you can see the directory and sidebar. That's what the little disclosure triangle up by the filename is for. Once the FS has been expanded to look like the above picture, look to see what subdirectory has been selected. Use the SideBar to select an appropriate one.

I am making a corporate template and would like every new chapter on level 1 to
start on a new page and "further down the page" than ordinary text and lower
level of chapters.
To make the fomat style to start on a new page is no
problem. But the heading won´t move further down regardless of how many "points"
I put in before.
How do I get around?
Note: It will be a template.

You could make a Frame a part of the Style definition as well as page break before and your space before paragraph.

When a Frame is used as part of the stlye, space before will work on a new page.

Problems with pages and mail merging from Address Book

hey guys. I have just created an invitation using one of the templates in Pages. this template is for four postcard size invites on one sheet of A4. i want to merge addresses from my address book. i can do the merge except that rather than four different contacts on each page i end up with four of the same on each page before it moves on the next contact on the next page. what i want to do is for it to merge one address per postcard. in Word i would put 'next' as the last field in the merge fields but i cant find a similar command in Pages. please can some advice?

I don't use Address Book for mail merging, but I tested this on a four page document and it worked for that so maybe it will work for your postcards. First, do your merge with full size pages and one address per page. Then in the print menu select Layout (drop down from Copies and Pages) and set it for 4 per Page (any direction you wish). That should print four different addresses on one sheet.

I have a simple pages doc with basic merge fields for contact and address details. It all works fine when dragging and dropping address cards from address book when those details are located "on my mac" however the merge fields don't recognise the info when I drag and drop a card from a contact stored in either my hosted exchange address book or my shared cardDAV address book.
When I drag a card from a contact to my pages doc the information reverts back to the merge codes if that contact is being dragged from an address book other than the one located on my mac.
Can anyone shed any light on if this is possible?

Also as Snow Leopard is a recent install you are entitled to Apple's support. Contact them and see what they can offer.

Pages and Address Book mail merge - major problem!!!

I'm setting up a mail merge in pages '09, with names and addresses coming from Address Book, but Pages will not merge in the addresses! The names are inserted, no problem there... I can't see what I'm doing wrong here, please help!
By the way, the merge fields correspond to the address book fields (e.g. Street is linked with "Target name > Address> Other Street, with the street names and numbers saved under "Other Address" in Address Book).

Pages and Address Book Possibility?

I am trying to find an efficient workflow for a volunteer project I coordinate. Every month, people sign up for various jobs serving the homeless, and one of my responsibilities is to email each volunteer every week to provide information and support. I have created a template for the sign-up sheet using the tables function in Pages, and I have typed in the names of all of the volunteers for each job. What I would like to do is to create a link of some sort so that I can click a person's name in the sign-up sheet and be taken immediately to his or her contact information in Address Book. From there, I can check my notes and then email that person. Is there a way to do this?

I think you may be tackling this the wrong way. Pages will merge information from Address Book into documents, but not link back the other way.
You could merge the Address Book information into a series of pages (each with one contact) in Pages, where you could keep your notes and click on email hyperlinks to call up Mail.
If you want something else, look for a PIM (Personal Information Manager) or use a Bento database.

Forcing a new page and using CAN GROW in a group header section??

Two Questions:
1) Is it possible to force a new page at any given position of the report?
I have a summary report with drill downs. My problem is that the vendor name and address (group 3 which is split into 3 subgroups GH3a GH3Bb GH3c) is sometimes at the end the page and the rest of the information (detaila and detail b with GFs) continue on the next page.
Can I specify a specific time or position when to page so that if this happens I can make the vendor name print on the next page?
I know of the keep group together option in the section expert but that keeps the detail together with the group heading - which is not the problem I am trying to resolve.
2) Can the group header and group footer sections be set to CAN GROW?

If a field exists in a section and the field is set to can grow, the section will grow with the field.
CR2008 allows you to page after X number of records in the details section. See section expert, paging tab (Details Section)
If you are not using CR2008 you could calculate the number of records per group and new page after this based on the number of records.

I downloaded the new Pages and Numbers through my app store but when I open my old documents, it still tells me my 30 day trial is over. How do I get the computer to automatically recognize the new applications?

More information: I have a 3 year old MacBook and had been using "Microsoft for Mac" until last week when I took my MacBook in for some upgrades- including the operating system Lion. I have been unable to use the Word, Excel, etc. programs because they are not supported on the new operating system... and I already used my 30 day trial of iWork when we first purchased the computer. I decided to buy Pages and Numbers through the App Store icon. When I open the Pages and Numbers under my Applications, I can get them to work. However, when I open old documents saved on my computer, they go into the 'old' iWork messages of that my trial has expired. How do I get the computer to automatically recognize that I've purchased Pages and Numbers?

You need to delete the trial & then reinstall from the boxed DVD or the Mac App Store. The files to delete are the iWork ’09 folder from the main HD > Applications; the iWork ’09 folder in HD > Library > Application Support & the individual iWork application plist files found in HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences for each user.
Yvan Koenig has written an AppleScript that removes the files. You can find it on his box.com account in for_iWork'09 > other_iWork'09 items > uninstall iWork '09.zip.

Select a new page and it does not open in front of other pages.

In Dreamweaver CS3, I used to select a file to work on from the files overview screen, and the new file would open on top of any other pages so I could get right to work. Now I have to minimize the files overview screen every time I want to work on a new page because the new page opens under the files overview screen. I'm using CS6 Dreamweaver 12.0.3 with Mac OSX 10.9.4. I just updated with all Dreamweaver updates for the MAC and restarted my computer. Still no change. Is there a setting to control this?

Here's a screenshot of my standard workspace. I have local files on one side and remote files on the other. In CS3 used to be able to just doubleclick on the file I wanted to work on and that file would open on top of the files overview screen. Now I have to minimize the files overview screen to get it out of view. I'd appreciate any suggestions you can offer. I also used to be able to click on F8 to move between the overview screen and a specific file. That also no longer works.

Can I restore a previous session after I open a new page and close it again afterwards?

I recently lost all of my opened tabs and windows. I had 7 pages open with multiple tabs in each window. Windows did an update and shut down my computer without me realizing. When I went on to my computer, without thinking I opened a new window and didn't restore the session, not realizing it wasn't there anymore. Then my computer shut down unexpectedly. Now when I go on the computer, it won't show my previous browsing session. The restore previous session is grayed out, and now that I opened another window to try to figure it out, there is nothing to restore. Is there any way to get a browsing session back from the past? Not the most previous browsing session, but a browsing session from 2 before that??? I am devastated because of all the research I've done in the past 6 months is gone. It will be so hard to figure it all out by searching through my history since it was 6 months of browsing. Not to mention too time consuming to do it that way since there were a few hundred tabs that I lost! Please help me!! I keep thinking that there has to be a way...It's really stressing me out and I just can't accept that it is all gone! I'm not an expert on computers, so I hope to get an explanation that I understand...I would be so grateful if someone can help me!! Thanks!!

Can I create a new document with a locked PDF file, add new pages, and lock it all again?

I published a PDF document ten years ago and now want to add Creative Commons licensing language to the copyright page. But I forgot the password! I gather from the Forum that there is no way to recover the password. However, I wonder if I can take the locked PDF file, create a new document (adding a new page for the licensing information), then lock the whole thing up again. Will this work? Thanks for your help!

To create an unprotected file you would need the password.

Has "open in new page" and "open in new tab" been swopped?

I am constantly opening new pages instead of new tabs.
Have the two right click functions been swopped and is it possible to swop them back?

Yes they have been swapped. Open in New Tab is now first (formerly second) and Open in New Window is now second (formerly first).
