I agree that using the native white point of the display with the built-in color sensor and Pantone software is a lot closer to correct than using 6500K, but then you don't even know what white point it's actually calibrated to. This matters quite a bit if you're doing color-critical graphics/photography work.
The most obvious difference of the profile I posted is a lessening of the blue channel, but the entire display gamut has been corrected for color accuracy, gamma, and luminance. You need to be working in a color-managed application to really get the full benefit of this though (eg Photoshop or Lightroom).

  • W701 with Pantone Color Calibrator Program

    Hi all,
I read, that for the ThinkPad W520, W530, W540 is a newer color-calibration-program "Pantone Color Calibrator".
The W701 isn't remarked as a compatible system, which I find a little bit strange.
At the official driver-download of the W701 isn't any color-caliobration program.
I has an old version of Huey-Pro, which is a very old version only for WIndows 7, but also runs under Windows 8.1 - sometimes with some problems.
    Therefore my question:
Does anybody know, if the newer Pantone Color Calibrator also runs with the W701?
    Thanks a lot,
    Klaus Zaeper

    I tested it now:
The Pantone Color Calibrator program doesn't work with the Lenovo W701 Color-Sensor.
So you've to use the Huey Pro-Program (marked as compatibel on WIndows 7, but is also working under WIndows 8.1), downloadable from the official Lenovo-driver-site.

  • Pantone Color Calibrator Will Not Launch

I have a ThinkPad W530 with color sensor and Pantone Color Calibrator. It has worked just fine since I got the computer brand-new over a year ago. For the last week or so, my color calibrator has failed to launch when I click on the "ThinkPad Display needs to be re-profiled" notification. I get the spinning icon, but after a few moments it just disappears. I've tried doing a restore, and chosen a time-point before I think this happened. But the system refuses to go back to that restore point because it "can't find a file." What the ????? I have not deleted any files from the system folders, I can only believe that one of my automatic updates has screwed this up. Of course, the message does not tell me what *kind* of file is missing.
I'm attempting a download and re-install of the Pantone Color Calibrator Program
    pantone_color_calibrator_setup_v1_2_0_6455.exe from this page: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS015010.
Hoping that will work, but has anyone else encountered this issue? And what did it turn out to be?
I'll report back on the results of the re-install, and thanks for any pother assistance.

Well, what the Color Calibrator program really does is to create an ICC profile for your monitor, and you can manually set each profile you've created by:
Right clicking on your desktop - select Screen Resolution - Advanced Settings and finally the Color Management Tab.
In the Color Management window, you can see all the ICC profiles that have been created by the Color Calibrator, as well as the default ICC profile for the ThinkPad LCD. You can add remove these at your own leisure.

  • Illustrator CS4, new Pantone color books, color channel issue

Since I installed the new Pantone color books, I've been running in a major issue which will affect our whole production line.
If an Illustrator CS4 file contains a Photoshop CS4 image which is using an "old" Pantone color in a color channel, it cannot be opened and I get an error message "File is unreadable". If I replace the "old" Pantone colour with its new equivalent in the color channel in Photoshop, the file can be opened normally.
In our work environment, this means going through all our images to check which one is using a color channel. A painful and time wasting procedure. Furthermore, if one of our suppliers doesn't have the new color books, they won't be able to open any of the files, both Photoshop and Illustrator, so they have no way to revert back to the old Pantone.
Is there another way to fix this?
    Thank you

More on the Pantone PLUS saga, hoping to get some input from the users of this forum. I find their silence deafening, to say the least. This is a serious issue, that will cost our agency hours and hours of work if it isn't addressed. And we've already wasted hours of troubleshooting and discussions on how we could resolve it.
We're actually testing a workaround: using both the old and the new libraries in Illustrator. After consulting our suppliers, we've learned that this is what they also do. For them, it's a one shot to get the file to print. For us, it means cheating with files that will get edited again in the future. And the Pantone installer removes the old Pantone books from the Adobe folders for a reason which is mentioned on the download page:
The reason that the PANTONE Color Libraries that had been built into Illustrator need to be removed and replaced with the PANTONE PLUS Color Libraries is that, in Illustrator, a PANTONE Color can only have one data point with which it is associated. In the short term, in order to benefit from the new colors and data associated in PLUS, the PANTONE Libraries that are installed with Adobe Illustrator are removed and replaced with the new PLUS Libraries.
    http://www.pantone.com/pages/Pantone/Pantone.aspx?pg=20721&ca=1
I worry this may lead to another bunch of issue, knowing how easily AI files get corrupted. What I need to know is:
What is the exact meaning of the Pantone warning about the "one data point per color?
What are the long term implications of using both Pantone libraries in an Adobe file? Or in the Adobe app?

Pantone Color Calibrator is a software application designed to work with the embedded color sensor inside select Lenovo laptop models. Together, this software and color sensor combination can calibrate your laptop to ensure that the color in your images is displayed accurately.
    Hardware requirements:
    - Must have an embedded or external color sensor.
    - Can be integrated or used with a USB color sensor device.
    Supported ThinkPad system:
    - W520, W530
    Supported operating systems:
    - Microsoft Windows 7 32-bit, 64-bit
    - Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, Professional

    Samsung Series 9 15-inch NP900X4C-A03US - PCMark7: 4674

Don't get your hopes up too high that this version will yield a better calibration of the FHD panel. The calibration result on 6500K still has a greenish cast on my two systems. I ound up using another user's profile that was created with an external calibrator. The results are much, much better than the ones developed with the Pantone 1.1 program.

    Hi !
Since I´ve installed Windows 8.1 I have a problem with Pantone Color Calibrator. No screen is found. **bleep**? It doesn´t see my laptops screen. i tried to reinstall the program but it doesn´t help. What the solution? Thanks

I had this problem. I solved it by downloading the appropriate nvidia video drivers from the lenovo website and running them this way (installing both the nvidia and intel drivers separately) - downloading via the lenovo solution centre and system update software did not lead to the video drivers being installed correctly after the Windows 8.1 update, for some reason?

  • New Pantone colors not showing up in the Pantone swatches palette!

There are new colors in the most recent Pantone books that we are not seeing in the available color swatches within Illustrator CS4.
Is this because the new swatches are only included in the newest version of Illustrator (CS5)?
Can we get an update so the new PMS colors are available in the Illustrator color palette within CS4?

I'm not sure about the timing of CS5 and Pantone's latest color release.  Try pantone.com and look for "software" or "downloads".  I believe the latest release is available for a price, depending on what you are looking for.

  • 336 new pantone colors

    Hi !
I have a problem: the recently released 336 pantone colors are not included in the latest CS6 InDesign pantone color libraries.
Does anybody know how to get thes new colors integrated in InDesign?
    kindly, Jes

    To all:
I have read with interest the 'thread' here concerning the 336 newest PANTONE colors, and thought I would take the opportunity to set the record straight.
The 336 newest PANTONE colors were introduced in April 2012, subsequent to launch of the PANTONE PLUS SERIES products in May 2010.
While Adobe CS6 is the first version of the Adobe suite to provide native support for the PANTONE PLUS SERIES libraries, this does not include the 336 newest PANTONE colors from April 2012.  These colors are supported within PANTONE Color Manager software.
PANTONE Color Manager was conceived in 2010 as a vehicle through which customers of Pantone could keep their digital PANTONE libraries fully up-to-date.  The software is distributed free of charge with purchase and registration of updated PANTONE color guides and books.  Each PANTONE publication has a unique serial number which when registered, becomes the activation key for a single-use activation of PANTONE Color Manager.  Thus, Pantone does not charge any additional cost to a customer for the libraries, over and above the cost of the PANTONE publications themselves. Customers who choose not to purchase updated books, or who may need additional licenses over and above the quantity of books that they own, can purchase PANTONE Color Manager for $49.00 per additional user license
The current release of PANTONE Color Manager, version 2.1, contains support for the 336 newest PANTONE colors in separate libraries, and allows users to export these for Adobe CS6 and earlier versions.  Customers who have PANTONE Color Manager installed but are missing the 336 newest colors, can either auto-update the software, or log into their myPANTONE account and download the latest installer free of charge.  Running the latest installer over the current installation will update the software to the latest release.
For detailed information pertaining to your personal situation, you may contact Pantone directly via e-mail to [email protected].
I hope that the community at large will find this information helpful.

  • When will Adobe load the new Pantone colors into the Suite?

Pantone added hundreds of fabulous colors last year and these are not available to specify in any of the Adobe Suite programs!

You can get them from Pantone although they don't make it easy. Checkout this thread starting at #9

  • Pantone color calibration in Lightroom

I shoot a lot of headshots for our company in front of the same colored wall. Due to each person's clothing and complexion, the color balance of the shot turns out different for each shot, making the colored wall look different in each shot. If I was able to find the Pantone value of the wall paint, is there a way I could color balance the background to match that color? I am currently eyeballing it and using the hue/saturation tool on the wall, but I wonder whether there is a better way to do this. Thanks!

Yes correct that is why I said "neutral grey card" and I am referring to the same thing as what is called a White balance card. Neutral in terms of equal red, green, blue.
    This is what I use.

  • How do I replace 2 pantone colors with 2 new pantone colors globally? I have a 2 PMS logo with many tint variations in it . When I replace PMS in Swatches pallette. The logo does not globally replace the selected color. es

I have a 2-PMS color logo with many tints in it of the 2 colors. When I replace the  swatches in the logo to new colors, they convert from Book Color to CMYK. Can the printer work with that? How can I kee it a 2-color separation?
    MaryFl

This is what I understand. You have a logo in a document that uses PMS 'A' and PMS 'B' colors and you want to change to colors PMS 'C' and PMS 'D'. If this is correct there are different ways to do this, but here is a traditional way:
Make sure Select Same Tint is turned OFF in the Preferences. And all objects are unlocked in the document.
Get the two PMS (C and D) in the document's Swatches Panel.
Select PMS 'A' and bring the 'Fill' box in focus.
From the Select menu choose Same > Fill Color.
Click on PMS 'C' in Swatches panel to replace all PMS 'A' fills with PMS 'C'.
    Deselect all.
Again select PMS 'A' and this time bring 'Stroke' box in focus.
From the Select menu choose Same > Stroke Color.
Click on PMS 'C' in Swatches panel to replace all PMS 'A' strokes with PMS 'C'.
    Deselect all.
Similarly using the same approach replace PMS 'B' wit PMS 'D'.
If you have CS3 / CS4 and the PMS colors in the logo are easily identifiable, you can use Live Color to change the colors pretty easily.
    Hope this helps!
    - Neeraj
New Note: If there are gradients / blends that use these PMS colors the above approach would not work, but Live Color can.

  • W520 External Color Calibrator stopped working with updated Pantone v1.1 software

Can someone from Lenovo help me with this issue? Lenovo updated the color calibrator software in Aug 2012. They broke an external color calibrator working. L1/2 has been completely unhelpful. I also escalated to customer service with little result except that they say it is not Lenovo software and they do not have to support it! Unacceptable, the software isprovided by Lenovo. Lenovo doc also says an external color calibrator is supported. Lenovo needs to take responsibility for fixing this. Here are the email chains. I really want a refund or someone to ensure this package that Lenovo distributes is fixed!

I do not want this case closed and disagree. This is Lenovo provided software and according to Lenovo an external calibrator is supported. I want someone to take responsibility for getting this fixed. Lenovo has provided this software and needs to work with the vendor to ensure it works. Who do I need to speak to in management? I do not appreciate the way support has just shuttled this around and nothing has gotten done.

Please be advised that I have taken this case assigned to Doris. Lenovo is not able help you with this issue, We cannot provide support for a third party product.  The calibrator you are using is supported by X-Rite; any issues with the device need to be addressed by them,

Error with latest update to Pantone Color Calibrator Software (v1.1) and Eye one external calibrator   09-19-201211:39 AM - edited 09-20-201209:10 AM Hi. Can someone have a look at the Pantone 1.1 package. I am using an eye one display calibrator with the updated Pantone software and the calibration does not work. I get an error about an 8 bit image missing (have attached a screenshot). The calibration is not correct and Windows Photoviewer is pink. This was working OK with the v1.0 of the software (no longer on the w520 driver page). The error message is "There was an error loading the specified profile. Please make sure the image has an embedded profile and it is an 8-bit image." This was working fine before the update to v1.1. Thanks

    I am getting the runaround!!!
    Hi Doris,
I just left you a voice mail. One of the reasons I bought this laptop was for 3d photography. If I cannot use an external color calibrator and display then the laptop is not fit for purpose for the reasons I bought it. This software is ONLY available from Lenovo. According to Lenovo’s own doc, and the software’s doc, an external color calibrator is SUPPORTED. Lenovo needs to step to the plate and fix this. Not ME. If Lenovo needs to go to Pantone, or x-rite, then they Need to do that. Lenovo provided software that is not available to the public from x-rite or Pantone, and the software is to support Lenovo provided hardware (least so far as the internal calibrator), this software ALSO supports an external calibrator for use with an external display. The software supports both internal and external, and I would like to use my external display for 3d photography. This needs to be fixed please.
What are we going to do to resolve this? At his point of the runaround I’ve been getting I would like a complete refund.
    Thanks,
    Christopher

    Hi Kelli,
As you know the ‘software’ purchase is by virtue of purchasing the laptop with the color calibrator. Are you saying you will refund my cost for the calibrator? I don’t think you quite get how much time I have spent with support with this laptop. I have had multiple issues with the it. The calibrator, failed BT adapter, Sudden Shutdown syndrome (where the machine would just shutoff on its own –well documented in the Lenovo forums and I have at least a dozen emails on this issue) as well as many issues with the Displayport connection and an external 3d display for which I spent months working with Nvidia to resolve. This laptop has wasted a huge amount of my time. The support has been atrocious.
I would like a refund for 1. The laptop 2. The external color calibrator I cannot use because the software from Lenovo does not work (this package is NOT available from x-rite as well –It is sold to Lenovo). I have a receipt for the color calibrator and would be happy to provide that.
    Thank you,
    Christopher

    Mr Lang,
Your request for a refund on the laptop is declined. The machine has had not hardware issues and was purchased in February.  We are willing refund the software only.

  • Pantone Color book (new colours) plugin into my Illustrator CS6 software.

I need to install the Pantone Colour Book plugin which has the new Pantone Color Bridge Colours. Where do I get it from, and how do I install it?

    stelmo,
Maybe it is worth having a look at this recent thread:

  • W530 Color Calibration Issue

Every month I re-calibrate my display using the COLOR by PANTONE Color Calibrator (v1.1.0).
I tried doing it today and kept getting this error, even though the tone for successful calibration always goes off:

I'll try to calibrate the screen once, but it will fail.  When I try a second time, it will also fail, and give me the error seen above.  If I try a third time, I finally get the three failure tones and the software simply closes itself.
Is this a hardware issue?  A driver issue?  Are there any solutions for this?

    Hi again, crmichae
What updates have you recently done to your machine? I did some research and found two highly relevant updates for your machine in general, and this issue more specifically. If you haven't already updated them, I found drivers for both your BIOS and the your graphics card that  have been released recently and are a good place to start with helping this issue. The graphics driver can be found here and the BIOS can be found here.
Hope it helps. Let me know how it goes,
    Adam
