For Mac computer
1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
You may need to put your iPod into disk mode before connection

  • Got new pc want to add library

i recently purchased a new laptop and started a new itunes account. problem is i cant do anything with this new account without erasing my old library. i have a pretty extensive amount of music, video, and data on phone. is there anyway to transfer my library to this new computer? oh by the way im not very computer savy so please give very detailed instructions

Files on the iPhone are just synced copies of what is on your old computer.
Do you not have your old computer still? If so, just copy all your files off there to your new computer.
The iPhone (or iPods, etc) are not backup devices be design. The program the other user pointed you to is a 3rd party developers way of getting to files that technically you were not supposed to be able to get to.
So if you still have your old computer, do you have a network at home? (Both computers on same network if so?)
If you do have old and have a network, tell us your OS and I am sure we can walk you through making a share and copying all the files from old to new.

is this possible, and replicated all users to active directory?

Yes, You must establish a two-way trust between the central forest and user forests to enable distribution group expansion when groups from user forests are synchronized as contacts to the central forest.

Your iPod can only be synced with one computer at a time.  If you try to sync it with a new computer/iTunes library, it will replace the contents of the iPod with whatever is in the new library. You should probably disable the autosync functionality first by going to Edit -> Preferences, clicking the Devices tab, and enabling the prevent iPods,iPhones, and iPads from automatically syncing option.
Before doing anything else,  authorize the new computer with your iTunes Account.  In iTunes, choose Store -> Authorize This Computer and enter in the correct credentials. Either copy a backup file from your old computer to your new one or create a new backup of your iPod in iTunes before letting it sync.
Then right->click on your iPod Touch from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes and choose Backup. You might also want to take a look at this article to see what it all included in the backup.

Now onto synced content such as music, videos, photos, etc.  For iTunes purchases you can copy them back into iTunes by choosing File -> Transfer Purchases.  For all other nonpurchased iTunes content, see this excellent user tip from another forum member turingtest2 outlining the different methods and software available to help you copy content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

Once the backup has been made and all other synced content such as music, videos, and photos are back in your iTunes library, restore your iPod from that backup you made earlier.  Here is more on backing up and restoring your iPod.

Apparently I wasn't clear.  The music on my ipod is but a subset of all the music on my external hard drives.  I want to import only the songs and playlists from my existing ipod into the itunes library on my new computer, which currently has no music or playlists.  How can I do this?

  • Add New partition

    Hello,
    Oracle 11.2.0.1
    Windows
I am having one partitioned IOT something like this :
    create table my_table (
    col1 number(10) not null,
    col2 varchar2(7) not null,
    col3 varchar2(20) not null,
    col4 varchar2(20) not null,
    col5 varchar2(20) not null,
    col6 date not null,
    col7 number(4) not null,
    col8 varchar2(1) not null,
    col9 varchar2(1) not null,
    primary key(col1,col2,col3,col4,col5,col6,col7,col8,col9)
    organization index
    partition by range (col3,col4,col5)
    (partition p1 values less than('A%','A%','A%'),
    partition p2 values less than('B%','B%','B%'),
    partition p3 values less than('C%','C%','C%'),
PARTITION p27 VALUES LESS THAN (MAXVALUE,MAXVALUE,MAXVALUE))
Now, I want to add new range partition on column col7. There is an index exist on col7 too, but since table is carrying around 200 million rows, only having index is not looking good, so I thought to add similar type of partition on col7. In col7 there are range value between 2000 to 2010 only.
Kindly tell me how do I proceed to add new partition on another column of existing partitioned IOT please.
    Thanks.

i thought that I am having the data of all student_name, father_name and mother_name whose name starts from A in partition p2 (because B is less than A) and like wise upto Z. Am I clear this ? I mean, if I says a student whose name is Boby John (partition p3), father name Robert (partition p19) and mother name Lilly (partition p13) ?A row can be in exactly one partition. It can't be in three different partitions. If you want to create 26*26*26 partitions, then you could have a separate partition for each possible combination. If you want just 26 partitions, you would realistically only want to partition by one column (presumably student_name).
select * from my_table where student_name like '%Boby%' and father_name like '%Robert%' and mother_name like '%Lilly%' and passing_year=2001. This would prevent Oracle from doing any sort of partition pruning since you're looking for a string anywhere within the name. You'd be better off not partitioning the table at all if you want to run this sort of query. You'd be much better off using Oracle Text and turning your LIKE conditions into CONTAINS conditions.
So, I think oracle is using 3 partitions i.e. P3 for Boby, P19 for Robert and P13 for Lilly. Upto this query is running fine and very good, no issue of slowness, but when ever query gets year=something other than 2001, it takes time. So, I thought I should have partitions on passing_year column too.No. A row exists in exactly 1 partition. Oracle has to scan all 26 partitions to satisfy this query. It would be more efficient not to partition the table at all. Even if you created 26*26*26*10 partitions, Oracle would still have to scan 26*26*26 partitions since passing_year is the only predicate on which you could do partition pruning. But that is unlikely to be useful-- you'd almost certainly be better off with no partitioning.

  • New partition & windows no longer boots

Hey all, up until now i have had 3 partitions on my drive - Snow leopard, General media and Windows 7. I decided to add a linux partition and made a new partition using disk utility. I boot up to the choose disk screen to install ubuntu to find that windows is no longer an option for boot up, so i deleted the new partition and it still won't boot into windows anymore.
How can i restore the booting function? Doing it with a linux partition too would be preferable but it isn't necessary.
    Thanks,
    Brad

Hi Brad and welcome to Discussions,
    Hi John,
A later done partitioning to add additional partitions to a harddisk alters the position of the BootCamp partition in the partition table so that the Windows Bootloader can not 'find' the Windows partition.
With Windows XP it helped to simply edit the Boot.Ini file and point it to the WIndows partition.
With Vista and Windows 7 there no longer is a boot.ini but EasyBCD http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=1 can do the same.
One thing to remember though is, that even Vista and Windows 7 'suffer' from the limitation of four partitions on one harddisk immenent to the Master Boot Record (MBR) since Apples EFI/GPT/MBR emulation can not handle Extended Partitions and Logical Partitions inside an Extended Partition.

  • Can we install a new mssql cluster on the same windows cluster which already containes a mssql cluster with named instance

We have a MSSQL 2008R2 Enterprise edition with a two node active passive fail-over cluster running on 2008R2 windows cluster with out any issues,
Now my question is can we add one more MSSSQL cluster instance for the same setup with out disturbing the existing one ?
Also give thoughts on load sharing as the second node is mostly ideal now except fail-over scenarios,
Why we go for this situation is because of the collation setting which can be set only one per instance(Database collation setting change not working), we need a different default collation for the new setup

    hi,
    >>Now my question is can we add one more MSSSQL cluster instance for the same setup with out disturbing the existing one ?
Yes it is possible .You need to add new drives as cluster aware and install SQL server and put data and log files on thse drives.YOu would need to create named instance of SQL server and need to create different resource group. Both old installation and new
    onw would work separately.
    >>Also give thoughts on load sharing as the second node is mostly ideal now except fail-over scenarios,
Good point indeed. You are about to create Multi instance cluster and should plan for scenario where one node is down and other node is handling load for both instances.Memory and CPU should be enough to handle the load.
    >>Why we go for this situation is because of the collation setting which can be set only one per instance(Database collation setting change not working), we need a different default collation for the new setup .
Just for collation if you are installing new instance seems little wierd to me.You can manage collation at column ,database and at server level.

  • How can I create a new partition to install Windows 7 by not using Bootcamp

How can I create a new partition to install Windows 7 by not using Bootcamp?

If you want to dualboot you have to use boot camp i think. I think you have already a full disc and cannot make another partition I'm I right?
Your question seems a bit blurry so I'm giving you a general tip here.
If you want to just try the beta you can always use Sun's "Virtualbox".

  • Windows 8 installation error: "We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one. For more information, see the Setup log files."

I recently tried testing Server 2012 for installation and I had a major issue.  Windows 8 also uses the same method for installation so this should also apply to Windows 8.  I thought this might be helpful for other people who have the same
problem.  My setup is a 1U server with no DVD drive, no hard drives, and only USB.  I have a new hard drive that I wanted to install Server onto, so I put it in and ran the installer off a thumb drive.  I kept receiving the following error when
I tried to format the hard drive and proceed with the installation:
"We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one. For more information, see the Setup log files."
After hours of troubleshooting, I determined my problem was I was using a thumb drive to install it, and Windows didn't like it.  Some people had similar issues when similar devices were plugged in (i.e. external hard drives, SD cards, CF cards, etc).
In my case, it was the installation drive itself was a thumb drive.  I ended up digging up an external DVD drive and placed the installation onto a DVD.  Worked flawlessly.  Now I am up and running.
    I tried
the steps here to no avail.
Hope this helps anyone else with the same problems.

  • Couldn't create a new partition with a windows 7 installation

    Hi
I have a b570 laptop. It was originally windows 7 home premium and I wanted to install windows 7 ultimate from scratch (didn't want to upgrade it) with new partitions, so I have deleted the original system partition and tried to create a new partition but to my surprise I couldn't create a new one. I tried to use the onekey recovery but it keeps asking me for the original partition, which I don't have. Please help me if you know how I could solve this problem. Thank you in advance.

With the windows 7 installation disk...I select the unallocated space shown on the screen -> click on the new button on the bottom -> set the size of the new partition to be created -> and click create.

    hi,
i wanted to resize my windows partition. I was thinking of using the default backup system for windows. Then switching to mac partion, deleting the bootcamp and then restoring a new enlarged partition from the backup. Is this possible?

I see youhave gotten recommendatons for using WinClone or CampTune.  I have used both and they both work well.
You have asked about using the WIndows 7 utility to backup your drive and restor it onto a larger partition.  I will tell you fro experience that this will probably not do what you want, and may do something that you don't want.  You can use the Windows 7 native backup tool to make a backup of your Windows 7 partition.  It will most liekly end-up making a dive image of the whole drive.  When yourestore that backup, it will try to re-create teh partitions of exactly the same size as they were when the backup was taken, so it won't increase your partition size for you.  Worse, since Windows doesn't natively know how to read./write HFS+ volumes, the backup will make a partition for your MacOS (replacing any you may have now), except that the copy restored by WIndows will be totally worthless, and you will not be able to boot MacOS from it, or even read it under MacOS.
Now I will tell you that I've also had some fairly good success working with the free tool CloneZilla.  Since it hasn't been mentioned yet, and everything else mentioned does cost you money, I thought I would throw it out.  CloneZilla is not as easy to use as the tools mentioned, but it has worked for me int hte past, so it is something to consider.  I tend to use CampTune myself, but that was because I purchased a bundle deal for them and it was included in that deal.
