New Pavilion DM3-1140US shuts off as soon as powered on

I have a laptop thats about 2 weeks old.. it was just working about 5 hours ago.. went to power it on.. it powers on, fan comes on, then it shuts off.  No POST screen, just blank and turns off.  Anyone had this problem before?

Ok, so I am trying to make happen what you are seeing. I turn on the ipod, I go to the radio application. I start the radio and put it down.
After a few seconds, the screen dims. A minute or so later, the screen turns off entirely (sleep mode). In my case, I have just done all this and the radio is still playing. Been going now for about 5 minutes.
At what exact point does your radio stop playing?
How are you listening to the radio? Are you using the headset that came with it or some other headset? Maybe external speakers? Maybe using a dock? If you are using a dock, who makes it?

  • Macbook pro shuts off as soon as charger is disconnected. Will only charge with older square tip charger and not the newer "L" magsafe charger it originally came with.

I have a 2011 macbook pro. I recently spilled some water on top of the macbook while it was off and charging (closed). Some water got to the charging port so I immediately disconnected the charger. Right away I brought it to ibreakufix and they looked through and told me there were no issues. I plugged it back into the charger to see if it would turn on and the "L" shaped magsafe charger it came with would not light up or charge the MB and it would not turn on. At the store, the person showed that it turned on using the older square tip charger. I went to apple thinking the charger was bad but that was not the case, tried a new charger (L) and still did not work. I came home and plugged in my older macbook charger (square tip) and it worked fine as it did at the shop but as soon as I unplug the charger, the MB shuts off. I took off the bottom and switched the battery with my other macbook thinking the battery might have shorted out but it still shut off. Battery display indicates that it is charging and in fact charged up to 100% but as soon as charger is disconnected it shuts off. Oddly when I plug in the newer "L" charger and disconnect the battery from the macbook, the charger lights up and powers on the MB. Any thoughts?

  • HELP! New 845GE Max 6580 shuts off during BIOS

I'm putting together a new machine using the 845GE Max 6580 with:
    Nvideo GForce2 mx400
    PC133 512 memory
    Pentium 4 3.06GHZ processor
when I turn on machine it begins BIOS than power shuts off... tried disabeling everything including the video card and just used the built in video on the motherboard...same deal.  Disabled the drives, memory....I'm out of ideas.  Tried a different keyboard and monitor as well.
Could the motherboard be defective and have to exchange!?
    -Mike and Kerry

Stay with the o/b VGA for now.
Disconnect the IDE and floppy cables, disconnect the power and clear the CMOS.
    Does it still happen ?
Look for extra stand offs under the board that might be shorting it.
If not try another stick of RAM and/or power supply.

  • PB 12" will not successfully boot / shuts off as soon as the dock loads.

I have a 12" PowerBook G4 1.33 with 256MB RAM, 60GB HD, OS 10.4.11. Just replaced the optical drive which was bad, and ever since doing that, the computer will do the following:
-I press the power button, I hear the Mac chime.
-The Apple logo appears and begins to load.
-The "Loading Mac OS X" dialog appears, loads...
-Desktop appears, then the top bar, then the dock...
-Then, the computer will do one of the following things:
    1. Shut off immediately (yet I still hear things running like the optical drive and HD)
    2. A dialog appears about the computer's clock being set to before March 31, 2001, then shuts off.
I have checked everything with this machine and all is plugged back in as I found it. I even took this to the Genius Bar and they ran tests and all, and even tried to boot from an external drive, but nothing. The only difference was they were able to get it to stay on for a minute or so, then it would freeze, then shut down after being frozen for several minutes.
I reapplied thermal compound generously, so I don't feel it's a heat issue. I'm just at my whit's end! Can anyone please help me? Apple can't even check this machine in for repairs due to its age. I even bought another HD to see if that was the problem, and here's what happens:
I try to boot from the disc, which it does and starts the installation process, but as soon as I make my language selection in the installation and click continue, the machine shuts off, like above. So, I don't think its the HD.
I would certainly appreciate any help anyone can give me. Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
First, assuming you get the machine running, you really should increase your memory. While 256MB is the minimum for OS X Tiger, you really should increase it to at least 512MB (add a 256MB card), or 768MBK (adding a 512MB card) or maxing the memory by adding a 1GB card, taking it to 1.25GB. OS X Tiger (10.4.11) is a good operating system, but it needs more than the minimum to run well.
That aside ... while you say Apple ran tests, have you run the Apple hardware test? Find your first original OS X gray-faced disk that came with the system (should say AHT Version x.x in small print on the label), insert, reboot while holding the alt key down, choose the Apple hardware test, and when prompted choose the extended test. Does that tell you anything?
The fact that you get a dialog about the computers clock being off suggests you have a problem in your power circuit. Are you trying to boot with both the power adapter plugged in and a working battery? The only reason you'd get that message is if all power ... both power adapter and battery ... are removed. The 12" PB doesn't have an internal battery to retain information like the date when all power sources are removed. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any Apple tests that specifically check the power circuit. Usually, the fix is to replace parts from cheapest to most expensive. Assuming you have both the power adapter installed and the battery, and that they are both working, the first places I'd look at are the DC to DC card and/or the logic board.

  • My new airport extreme keeps shutting off

periodically my airport extreme just shuts off,I unplug and wait nd replug and its fine, but what is wrong?

I assume that you mean that your new AirPort Extreme completely powers-down randomly.
If that's the case, there are at least four things I can think for why that may be happening:
The power cord is not fully attached at the base of the AirPort Extreme.
There is a potential issue with the AC wall outlet or power strip (if you are using one.) Try using another outlet or power strip.
There is a potential issue with the AC's internal power supply.
The overall ambient temperature around the Extreme is too high and is causing the Extreme's power suppy to shut down.

  • Macbook Pro shuts off as soon as Power Adapter is plugged in

Hi. I opened up my Mid 2010 macbook pro 13 today to get some dust out. After putting everything back together I found that it wouldn't turn on anymore. A couple of hours passed and I was able to turn it back on - there hasn't been any damage to my HDD and everything is 100% normal. The problem I have been having though is that the second I plug in my charger the laptop just shuts off.
I can't turn my Mac back on while the charger is in, but the weird thing is that it's actually being charged during this time so I have no clue what the problem is. I managed to turn it on once with the charger in and everything was going fine until I loaded up a game and it turned off after about 15 minutes.
Any ideas as to what is happening to my Mac? I don't think it's an HDD issue and I don't think the battery is defective since it still holds a full charge without an issue.
Any help is appreciated, thank you!

i have the same problem as well...but in my case water spilled on my macbook i let dry it for a day and when i switched it on it went on  butwent off after about an hour..and ever since then every time i connect the charger it turnsoff and some times it just doesnt charge at all...please help
You don't have the same problem, you have the 'I damaged my Mac by spilling water on it' problem.
    it will probably fail.
Take it to an Apple Store.

  • T510 doesn't fully shut off, and has issues powering on

Our brand new T510 is having issues completely shutting off. When you use the Start > Shut down button.. Windows shuts off.. and the screen goes completely black. (normal procedure right ? )... but the battery light stays on (even when unplugged from the AC cord, the light stays on).. you can open the disc drive, and you can hear the fan running.
If you open the computer back up, and try to push power, it will not come on.
To power back up.. you have to hold the powerbutton for 5 seconds, and then push power button again.
What's up with this? Anyone experienced anything similar? I have run all applicable updates in System Update 4 (the ones I "need" that is).

  • Laptop shuts off as soon as plug removed

g550. As soon as I unplug the laptop it just shuts down, does not exit windows, does not pass go does not collect $200. Just goes black. If you put the plug in you can restart and run the computer as usual. I am going to assume that the battery is done but you know the saying about assume. I am not very good with computers so if you have something for me to try please write it out completely step by step. Thank you in advance for your help. As the laptop is a little over 2 yrs old.

As I understand your issue, the laptop cannot use on battery.
Once you unplug the power adapter it shutdown, if this is the scenario the issue is with battery.
You can try reconnecting the battery and check if it charges normally.
If the battery dos not charge and give battery backup then battery need to replaced.
    Best Regards,
    Tanuj

  • Phone keeps shutting off after updated to ios 7

My phone just started randomly shutting off as soon as the update finished. When will it stop shutting off? why does it keep shutting off?

    Try resetting your iPhone:
Reset: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • IPhone keeps shutting off - iOS 7 issues

Over the weekend, after I just upgraded to the new iOS7, my phone shut off more then (5) times. If I was texting or at the unlock screen or getting map direction in the car the iPhone would just shut off completely. Even if I held down the power button for (5) minutes it wouldn't turn back on. Very frustrating specially when I use my phone for everything. Is there something I'm doing wrong because I'm about to turn in this phone.

I just had a refurbished phone sent to me because my iPhone5 was having another data leak. Now the replacement is operating on iOS7 and it has shut off randomly for 5 to 10 minutes three times in three days. I'm going to contact technical support again and ask for another replacement.

  • Computer Shuts off Without Warning and with Full Battery

I have been having a problem with my Macbook Pro, where it will shut down completely even though the battery is full.
It is a fairly new battery, because I had it replaced back last fall. When it shuts down, my first instinct is to try and turn it back on. When I do this, it starts up normally, goes to the white screen, but then shuts down again...
However, when I wait about a half hour and try turning it on again, it will boot up normally. It also works fine when plugged in.
    Battery Information:
    Model Information:
    Serial Number: Sony-AS**2-3a94-7751
    Manufacturer: Sony
    Device name: ASMB012
    Pack Lot Code: 0001
    PCB Lot Code: 0000
    Firmware Version: 0110
    Hardware Revision: 0500
    Cell Revision: 0303
    Charge Information:
    Charge remaining (mAh): 3817
    Fully charged: No
    Charging: Yes
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 4853
    Health Information:
    Cycle count: 66
    Condition: Good
    Battery Installed: Yes
    Amperage (mA): 1563
    Voltage (mV): 12430

Add me to the list of people with a MBP (with a new battery) that randomly shuts off under a full charge. Sometimes it is under resource intensive games, other times it is when I am checking email with nothing else open. If I hit the power button after a random shutdown, the machine will not start. I either have to wait for a while, (10-30 mins) or plug in the magsafe adapter.
IF I unplug the magsafe adapter while booting, I will get a random shutdown in the middle of booting. I cannot explain the behavior - I've tried recalibrating my battery, SMC reset, etc.
I put the battery into my other MBP (a 1.83 ghz Core Duo) and it reported a 90% charge and ran for hours without a random shutdown, so I am quite sure that the battery is not at fault.

  • Shutting off power strip when not watching television

Before I subscribed to FIOS I always shut off my power strip on my plasma television to save money on my electric bill.  I continued to so, but shortly after I subscribed to FIOS,  a technician had to give us a new box.  My son is guessing we needed a new box because of shutting off the power strip.  My electrical bills are considerably higher now.
Do you think we will have problems if we shut off the power strip when not using the television?
    Thanks!

The only ptoblem with shutting off the power strip is how long you have to wait for the box to reboot when you turn it back on. Also most of Verizon's updates occur at night while you are sleeping.
