New PC iTunes Installs but Stops Responding

I had to get my laptop replaced and when I install iTunes on the new one, it seems to install fine but whenever I open the program, it just says iTunes has stopped responding and closes. There is no music added, and there is no music added to the computers hard drive yet. It is a fresh new PC with a lot of memory and I don't understand why iTunes is behaving this way.

  • My itunes opens but stops responding two seconds later....Help?

Recently i got given an ipod and my itunes had been working fine previously. So i loaded my ipod and my two siblings ipods onto the computer and we were downloading music and it was working fine. Later i came back and tried to open itunes and the window opened up but it froze on 'loading itunes store' and stopped responding. I do not have bonjour or asc so its nothing to do with that. Does anyone know how i could fix this? Thanks

The message "this program is trying........" probably came from your secyrity software trying to insert back the LSP.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset and are running any kind of net monitoring software like Bsecure, Net Nanny, AVG Family Safety, Safe Eyes, Covenant Eyes, Norton Online Security etc... I would suggest that you try uninstalling said software and reinstalling iTunes 10.5 to see if that corrects the issue.
Or You may follow article TS4123 steps to identify which software in your system is the culprit and uninstall it. Good Luck!
iTunes 10.5 for Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
    Last Modified: November 28, 2011

    Symptoms
You may notice the following symptoms after installing iTunes 10.5 for Windows:
    iTunes is slow to respond
    Windows is slow to respond
iTunes stops responding when backing up or syncing with an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
Some processes installed by iTunes are using up a lot of resources in the Windows Task Manager.
iTunes Store looks empty and white as shown below:
    Products Affected
iTunes Store, iTunes 10 for Windows
    Resolution
Look for modifications to Windows by:
Running MSINFO32 by choosing either Start > Run, or using the search box to search for
Once it is open, expand Components and then expand Network.
Click Protocol. The first value should look like this:
However, if you find a value that is more like this, it indicates that there's an LSP (Layered Service Provider) monitoring your computer:
"<LSP Info>" is variable and may specifically mention a software suite, or appear to be a meaningless acronym
Scroll through the list on the right and look for any LSPs that have been installed by third-party software. By default, the Windows OS will have 10 values:
    MSAFD Tcpip [TCP/IP]
    MSAFD Tcpip [UDP/IP]
    RSVP UDP Service Provider
    RSVP TCP Service Provider
    MSAFD NetBIOS [\Device\NetBT_Tcpip...
The value above repeated 5 times with additional variables at the end
Note: If you want to know more about which values from this key are part of Windows, please review Microsoft article 811259.
Once you've identified the third-party LSPs, determine which software placed them there. Here is a partial list of LSPs you might run into and the software that may have placed it there:
    Product or Manufacturer
    LSP Name
    Bigfoot Networks
    BfLLR over [MSAFD Tcpip [TCP/IPv6]]
    ByteMobile, Inc.
    BMI over [MSAFD Tcpip [TCP/IP]]
    Covenant Eyes
Covenant Eyes Monitoring over [MSAFD Tcpip [TCP/IP]]
    PC Tools / Spyware Doctor
    PCTOOLS over [MSAFD Tcpip [TCP/IP]]
    SafeEyes
Internet Content Filter over [MSAFD Tcpip [TCP/IP]]
    SpeedBit Video Accelerator
    SBLSP over [MSAFD Tcpip [TCP/IP]]
    VMWare
    VMCI sockets DGRAM
Once you've identified the third-party software that installed the LSP, you can remove that software. If the software is your security software, see iTunes: Troubleshooting security software issues for additional information.
Note: If unsure on the origin of your LSP, you may try to locate vendor information to determine which software is responsible for the non-default value here.
    Reset the WinSock key
If you are unable to identify the software that installed the LSP, you are unable to remove this software because it performs an important function for you, or you've removed this software and the issue persists, you may wish to reset the WinSock key.
To do so, please do the following in an administrator user:
    Windows Vista and Windows 7:
    Windows XP:
    Enter the following command:
    netsh winsock reset
Restart the computer and test the issue.
Note: If the issue returns, third-party software may be reinserting the LSP.

How to reset your Apple ID password.
Go to iforgot.apple.com and type in your Apple ID, then click 'Next'.
Verify your date of birth, then click 'Next'.
You'll be able to choose one of two methods to reset your password, either E-Mail Authentication or Answer Security Questions.
If neither method works, then go to https://getsupport.apple.com
(If you see a message that says 'There are no products registered to this Apple ID, simply click on 'See all products and services')
Choose 'More Products & Services', then 'Apple ID'.
    A new page will open.
Choose 'Other Apple ID Topics', then 'Lost or forgotten Apple ID password'.
    Click the blue 'Continue' button.
Select the contact option that suits your needs best.
How to reset your Apple ID security questions.
Go to appleid.apple.com, click on the blue button that says 'Manage Your Apple ID'.
Log in with your Apple ID and password. (If you have forgotten your Apple ID password, go to iforgot.apple.com first to reset your password with a password recovery email)
Go to the Password & Security section on the left side, and click on the link underneath the security questions that says 'Forgot your answers? Send reset security info email to [email]'.  This will generate an automated e-mail that will allow you to reset your security questions.
If that doesn't work, or  there is no rescue email link available, then click on 'Temporary Support PIN' that is in the bottom left side, and generate a 4-digit PIN for the Apple Account Security Advisor you will be contacting later.
    Next, go to https://getsupport.apple.com
(If you see a message that says 'There are no products registered to this Apple ID, simply click on 'See all products and services')
Choose 'More Products & Services', then 'Apple ID'.

  • I bought a new computer, and iTunes doesn't have my music or anything on there. I want to get everything on my iPhone to my new computer/itunes. But no matter what i do, it won't let me. My desktop has everything, and I want all that on my laptop..

I bought a new computer, and downloaded  iTunes, therefore  the new itunes doesn't have my music or anything on there. I want to get everything on my iPhone to my new computer/itunes. But no matter what I do, it won't let me. My desktop has everything that my phone has on it, I just want it all moved to my laptop. Does that make sense? I could really use some help. I don't live with this desktop anymore so I need to be able to use my laptops itunes. Please help me. Thanks in advance!

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then seeRecover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

  • I've unchecked the boxes for apple e-mails (news and iTunes offers) but I still get marketing info which I don't want. What else can I do to stop the spam?

I've unchecked the boxes for apple e-mails (news and iTunes offers) after following the link at the bottom of a marketing e-mail from Apple.
Unfortunately I still get marketing info which I don't want. What else can I do to stop the spam?

The e-mail checks out as having come from an IP address registered to Apple.
    Received-SPF: pass (mxeu0: domain of insideapple.apple.com designates 17.254.6.124 as permitted sender) client-ip=17.254.6.124; envelope-from=[email protected]; helo=msbadger0204.apple.com;
The sender address wasn't spoofed and all the links in the mail lead to legitimate apple web sites. (It was an advert for a MacBook Air christmas special). There was a link at the bottom of the e-mail which takes me to the Apple 'manage your e-mails' page.
    List-Unsubscribe: <http://mynews.apple.com/subscriptions?v=2&la=de_de&.....
On this page there are check boxes for the various Apple news and iTunes marketing e-mails, and the option to change my e-mail address. The boxes are not checked but I still get marketing e-mails.

This problem has been happening only recently. It just freezes, I logged onto my computer yesterday and it did the same thing. And it's doing it again today!! its really frustrating! I just re-installed itunes, the latest version for windows. My computers specs can handle it no problem..
The song i am listening still plays, but just the program stops responding
I only have like 103 songs.
I got an ipod classic about a month ago and converted some videos for it, just letting you know incase that is the problem. but this never happened when i got my ipod or before.. only just now.
so whats going on and how can i fix it?

  • ITune opens but wont respond HELP!

When I click on the icon iTunes appears onscreen but its frozen!? If I "ctrl-alt-del" it says that its not responding?? The the following error message appears:
saAppName: itunes.exe saappuer 6.0.0.1.8 szmodname: hungapp
    szmodver: 0.0.0.0 ofnet: 00000000
I have uninstalled/reinstalled/uninstalled/reinstalled. I even tried loading standalone quicktime and nothing.
When I tried to load my old itunes (from first CD) it says that "itunes Library.itl" could not be read as a newer version of itunes had been made or something.
    I have a headache!
I have followed the steps on here i.e. turn off NIS etc but it still comes up and freezes.
I plugged in my ipod, which still has the music on it thankfully, and it appeared in the itunes menu but thats as far as I have managed to get.
    HELP!

I have uninstalled/reinstalled itunes and nothing seems to help. It has something to do with Norten Internet Security that does not let itunes connect to the internet, which in turn crashes itunes.
I have spent hours trying to sort it out. But no matter what I do itunes still does not respond.
Luckily the ipod still has it tunes, otherwise I would cry!

  • ITunes installs but does not run on Windows 7 64-bit

I've spent a couple hours going over advice on this forum as well as elsewhere on the Internet to resolve this. iTunes installs without a problem but when we run it, nothing appears. iTunes.exe *32 and iTunesHelper.exe *32 appear in the Windows Task Manager but there is no other evidence that iTunes is running.
I've tried installing and reinstalling. I've tried a number of different compatibility settings. Surely there must be an easy way to resolve this.
    Frustrated,

The problem, as it turns out, is Bonjour. See http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2408851&tstart=0 for ideas on how to fix....

To add to this, I have wiped all my 1000 mp3's and refreshed ITUNES on my 3 computers. Even with adding new CD imports I still get the unknown error -69. I know there is nothing wrong with these mp3's. Please help me!

  • Itunes installs but won't open. HELP!

    Hey
So I was really pumped about the new itunes version, so I installed the new one and double clicked on the new icon to open it up.
    Nothing happens.
I've since uninstalled everything (itunes and quicktime), gotten rid of the old itunes folder, and reinstalled everything (once together, once with itunes and quicktime seperately). Still no luck. My icons are now all the new blue ones (for music files and for the itunes icon). But the process just won't start. My task manager registers itunes.exe as running for about five seconds, and then the process drops off the list.
    Any suggestions????

the way that itunes.exe disappears after a few seconds in Task Manager suggests malware. (that's how itunes.exe used to behave for folks with earlier versions of itunes who were getting "error message free" itunes launch failures caused by a Qoologic adware infestation.)
so let's see if we can catch something like that. download the free trial version of Ewido, and scan the PC. does that pick up anything? if so, does itunes launch afterwards?

  • Firefox won't load but stops responding right after I open it. its done this for two days on all our computers

I use firfox all the time but yesterday and today it has decided that it will not load the page nor will it respond. it get a spinning blue circle and it will not allow you to click anything. you can escape it but nothing has done any good that I've tried doing to fix it.

I have 5 different Win7 64-bit installations. As soon as i upgraded to FF18...EVERY single systems browser experience slows to a crawl. CPU and memory spike beyond control. In fact I have to use Chrome to browse. This is so incredibly unacceptable. My entire family is soooo frustrated. They have reverted to IE, and i provided each device with a fresh install of Chrome, no issues whatsoever.
As for suggestions here, I have no intention of following any of these lame instructions to check anti-virus, video card switching, or resetting FF to defaults which will cause loss of some of the personalization.
Its a bloody shame. Farewell FF. Enjoy your poorly QA'ed release....!!!

  • ITunes installs but will not run. It says it was not installed correctly?

I have tried installing the new iTunes (19/2/13) and when I try and run it, it comes up saying 'iTunes was not installed correctly, please reinstall' and error code 7.
I have tried repairing it, reinstalling it and installing an earlier version. Please help.

A complete uninstall/reinstall of iTunes and related software components is worth a try (7s can indicate trouble with other software components like Apple Application Support). See the following documents for instructions:

  • ITunes installs but will not run post install in SERVER 2003

I have MS Server 2003 as my OS. I haven't used iTunes in a long time because I never got it to work on my computer. I downloaded anapod explorer and that has worked well for me, but I really would like to try iTunes again as I have several friends that tell me how wonderful it is.
Anyways, I install iTunes and it goes through the initial setup procedure, then will not actually show up. I see iTunes.exe in my task manager for about 10 seconds then it disappears. No error message, no nothing. I've tried new versions, old versions, standalone quicktime, deleting "ipod/apple" anything out of the registry. I've force-disabled DEP.
I'm a well seasoned windows user, not so much mac stuff, but I've been messing with this for 3+ hours now, and can't seem to get it to run.
    Suggestions are appreciated, thanks.

I don't think your OS is on the list of supported operating systems, but still.
Does your Quicktime work? iTunes can't work without it and the fault seemed to relate to a Quicktime file.
Sometimes installing the stand alone QUicktime works.
First completely remove Quicktime using the method here: it is not for your OS but I expect you can adjust.
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
When you come to the system32 folder you can remove any file with Quicktime in the name.
There can also be problems with incompatible codec packs. If you have any of the following:
ACE & K-Lite mega codecs package, QT alternative, Storm codec, WinAVI video converter, Mpcstar, (possibly starcodec pack, 3ivx)
Uninstall them before installing the stand alone QUicktime.
Download the version of Quicktime that does not include iTunes from here:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
Note that it is not the default option.

  • ITunes installs, but not QuickTime

I have been able now to get iTunes to install, it seems to go through the whole process without any hitches. When the install finishes and says to start iTunes, I click the button and get an error message:
"QuickTime was not found. QuickTime is required to run iTunes. Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again."
I have done that several times and the problems repeats. I have followed the unintall troubleshooting steps. I followed them and uninstall all the Apple componets and then deleted the folders mentioned in the troubleshooting steps. The error message continues.

Tony, just got this pc on Sat, I did a migration of programs and files from my old pc with Win XP. Used PC Mover. Had some other programs that wouldnt run either after the migration, some of them said they were missing specific files. iTunes said that it couldnt run as a 32-bit version. That is when I uninstalled iTunes and downloaded the 64-bit version and started having the problem installing the 64bit and getting the error message from iTunes 64bit that it wouldnt work with a 32bit installer. After repeated uninstalls and installs, I decided to undo the migration. I then migrated just the my documents folder.
Then iTunes started installing but when I tried to start it, it would say that it was missing QuickTime. As Paul Harvey used to say...Now you know the rest of the story!
    Again, thanks for your input.
