New pc old ipod

My laptop had the hard drive replaced and when I downloaded itunes and plugged in my ipod it said it was synched with another library and would erase everything. how do I synch it without losing all my songs?

*how do I synch it without losing all my songs?*
You can't, if you sync the iPod with an empty iTunes everything on it will be erased. You have to transfer the contents of the iPod to iTunes before you'll be able to sync it again.
Open iTunes first and go to Edit>Preferences>Devices and check the box "Prevent iPods and iPhones from syncing automatically" and choose Ok. Then connect your iPod.
When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are connected and your iPod is safely in manual mode there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. iTunes will only give you the option to copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads etc) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

new computer/old ipod - how do I update my libray from my ipod? the music wasn't transfered from cd's, shared music files...no purchased from the ipod store.

The ipod is not a storage/backup device. The sync is one way - computer to ipod.  The only exception is itunes purchases:  File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.  Use your backup copy to put everything on your new computer.

  • HELP! - New PC, Old iPod

I backed up all of my iTunes music from my old PC to a couple of DVD's. I missed all music beginning with "d" and "e". My iPod still has the music on it.
Re-imaged my old PC and bought another one. I want to reload the music from the DVD's to my new PC and I want to get the missing music off of my iPod and then resync all of them to get back to where I started.
New PC (iTunes) will not sync with old iPod because it thinks it is still synced with old PC.
How do I get the missing music off of iPod and get it syncing to new iTunes?
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

"New PC (iTunes) will not sync with old iPod because it thinks it is still synced with old PC"
Connect your iPod to your computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.

  • New Computer+Old iPod=Problems

I got an iPod touch about a month ago and synced it with my PowerBook G4. Then, my PowerBook completely crashed and I lost everything on it, so all I really have left are all the files on my iPod. Now I have a new computer, a MacBook Pro, and the only options it allows me when I plug in my iPod are to either delete everything existing on my old iPod and sync to my new iTunes (which means I would effectively lose everything I had left from my old computer) or it could add new files to my iPod, but I cannot transfer the songs already on my iPod to my new computer. I understand why they do this to avoid illegal file-sharing, but it doesn't seem quite fair when both computers belong to me, and one simply crashed (especially since it was a mac). Any tips on how I can put my old songs on my new computer? I don't want to lose everything!

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Take a look at iRepo (link).

Have you tried listing what happened to your Powerbook G4 here? Unless it was a sudden and critical hard disk failure I can't see what could have happened that it is totally unrecoverable.

  • New macbookpro, old ipod nano

So I did a search and went through a number of threads but found no answer. That might mean that there is no solution, but I'm hoping not.
just got a replacement MBP, but no chance to use the migration assistant. So I have to sync my old ipod to my new comp if I want to add anything. I've gone and set everything to manual. But it still wants to reset the ipod and it wont let me create a back up.
Is there a way I can back up and/or sync the ipod without losing everything?

not sure how to interpret your response.
I have my old HD, actually. The issue is that itunes, for some reason, will not let me transfer anything. Nor will it let me create a back up of the ipod contents (I don't want to lose my angry birds and fruit ninja scores, after all).
So for whatever the reason I am stuck with having to either lose everything or not update it.
To be clear, I accidentally wrote nano, it is actually a 3rd gen touch I am trying to sync. Too many apple products and in busy times there was a slip up.

  • New Computer Old Ipod Touch

I got a new computer and recently hooked-up my old Ipod. Unfortunately, only the music I purchased on the Ipod transferred to the new Itunes on the new computer. All of the CD's I had on the Ipod don't transfer. Itunes wants me to update to Ipod Touch software 4.02 but it will cause all the songs on the Ipod to be erased and replaced only with what is in currently in Itunes.
Is there an easy way to transfer the music or does Apple have my hands tied?

  • New Computer, Old iPod.  Not Giving me an option to sync. Stuck on Do Not Disconnect!

I just authorized my new computer and plugged in my old ipod.  I just want to have access to all the music I have purchased through itunes, but nothing is happening.
My itunes account is open and my iPod has been on "Do Not Disconnect" for a long time now.
I have logged out and logged back it.  Held the menu button and the center button to restart ipod and disconnected then reconnnected. I have authorized then unauthorized and reauthorized.  Still nothing.
    Any suggestions?  Thanks!

I suspect your problem is your new iPhone 5 is running a lower version of iOS than your old iPhone 5. So, first update your new phone. Once you do that: Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings. You should now be able to use the backup of your old iPhone 5.

  • New iPhone, Old iPod- How do I transfer the iPod to a new user?

I recently bought the iPhone 3GS. When plugged in to my computer, it synced right up with iTunes. My old iPod also works great with it. But now my husband wants my iPod and his own account. How can we open him an account with iTunes for the old iPod without losing all that is already on it? I can't find anything on transferring ownership.

What kind of iPod do you have?
If it's an iPod touch, only data from one iTunes account can be synced to it. If it's a nano or a classic, you can sync data from multiple accounts fairly easily.
    Let me know!

  • New macbook, old ipod touch.... cannot access music!!

I recently bought the macbook pro for college. I have an iPod touch, which is basically attached to me at all times. I am trying to open up my library on this computer but it continually says that this ipod is synced with another computer and I cannot access my music, add, or delete anything. How do I sync this ipod with my new computer, and/or UNsync the other computer (family computer which I will not have access to come august)
    HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

The ipod touch will sync with ONE computer at a time. If you sync to another, it will erase the content from the ipod first, then replace with content from the new computer. This is the way it is designed.
You should move all of your info/music/pics/etc from the old computer to the new one first, then sync.

    Where is your backup?
This is one of the many reasons that maintaining a backup is basic.
You can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod: File>Transfer Purchases
You can see if this helps:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329
You can also try a forums search, as this is asked and answered many times each day. Zevoneer explains the option very well.
