New PC rig won't start up

Ok, I've built a few PCs from scratch in my day, but I just can't seem to figure this one out. My assumption is that I have a compatability problem somewhere, but I was hoping that someone might be able to chip in a help me out before I start shelling out more coin on guesses.
I set things up with a bare minimum, MB, CPU, RAM, Video Card, and I get no joy. Here is what I tested with:
MSI "K7N2 Delta2-LSR" NVIDIA nForce2 Ultra 400 Chipset
Jaton nVIDIA GeForce 6800 Video Card, 128MB DDR, Model"3Dforce6800"
Kingmax 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ "Barton", 400 FSB, 512K Cache Processor
Rosewill 450W Dual Fan Power Supply, Model "RV450"
3.3v 30a 5v 45a 12v 22a
I swapped out the PSU, video card and RAM into another PC and they worked fine. I wasn't able to test the CPU in another box since it didn't have a 12v CPU power connector on the MB. I'm going to borrow another, slower CPU to see if the problem lies there, but I have two of the Barton CPUs and I think the odds of both being bad isn't very likely. Incompatability is what I'm trying to determine.
I swapped IN an nVidia MX400 video card as well as some RAM that I know works (but don't know the manufacturer) but neither brought my baby to life.
According to nVidia's RAM compatability here is what is says about my RAM. It's not identical, but damn close:
Compatable - DDR400 KINGMAX 512MB 64MX64 P/N MPXC22D-38KT3R
Mine- DDR400 KINGMAX 512MB 32mX8 P/N MPXC22D-38KT3
I would find it humerous if an nVidia graphics card would be incompatable with a nVidia MB, but I've seen funnier things.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've read through the boards, you guys and girls are great.
Antonio Valadez

Anyone aware of any issues with this Mboard and the AMD Athlon XP "Barton" chips? I'm using a 3ghz chip with an emphasis on the "Barton" part.
I put in an AMD Athlon "Thoroughbred" of the 2.4 ghz variety in the box and it booted just fine.
The primary differences that I can see from the chips are:
The Barton runs a 400Mhz FSB while the Tbred runs at 266Mhz.
The frequency, of course. Barton at 2167 Mhz and the Tbred at 2000Mhz.
The cache size, as well. 512k for the Barton and 256k for the Tbred.
Voltage is the same.
Of course, there's always the possibility that I have two bad CPUs. Unfortunately, I really don't have anything that I can test them on and I'm way past the 3-day, OEM return time period.
If this CPU does give this board problems, I'll be switching out CPUs, not MBs. I'd like to still find one with a 400Mhz FSB since that's pretty much what I have my rig set up for. Any and all help/suggestions would be appreciated. You guys have been more then great. I am truly grateful for your help.

  • New mac mini won't start up...

I just got my new mac mini today and it won't start up. After some research I discovered that the icon on the screen is telling me to put batteries in my mouse. There are batteries in my mouse. I shut it down and restarted it again, making sure my wireless keyboard and mouse were turned on. That didn't work. Then I tried turning them on after I started the computer. That didn't work either. I'm sad.

I have had the same issue (new Mac Mini, client OS, new wireless keyboard and trackpad ... connected using HDMI cables through my receiver to my TV).
First I got stuck on a spinning doughnut right out of the gate. Phone tech support told me I needed a wired keyboard. While I didn't like the idea, I went down to the apple store to buy that and they told me there was something wrong with the Mini and to bring it in. Today I did took the unit in; they discovered a faulty harddisk and replaced the unit without much hassle (nice).
Before leaving the store, I told them what phone support had to say about requiring a hardwired mouse and keyboard for setup. They told me it used to be necessary but that is not so nowadays. I happily left the store expecting no other issues.
Now here I sit. My trackpad is recognized but my keyboard is not. I can't get past the nearly indecipherable screen showing me how to power up these devices for discovery and pairing because it doesn't recognize the keyboard. And since I don't have a wired keyboard anywhere in my house, I'm looking at my 60 minute roundtrip to the apple store. sigh
I'm most upset about that part. If they'd simply set my expectations that I need a wired solution for setup, I wouldn't like it but at least I'd know and wouldn't spend endless time wasting gas simply to get to step 2 of setup.
I've been a big fan of the iPhone an iPad but I have to say that Windows PC setup (while a tad slow) is MUCH more straightforward than this. At least I have some workaround options that get me moving. Works out of the box, my @#$.

  • New Satellite P300 won't start up.

I hope you can give me some advice. This week I bought a new Toshiba P300-GU with Vista Home Premium. It worked fine for about 3 days but now it won't start up at all.
    Symptoms:
    * - A few LED-lights blink for a second before they turn off again.
    * - No sound from either fan or harddrive.
I tried to remove battery and power cable and left the computer for a day before trying again. There is no difference except for a few more LED-lights blinking for a second the first time I try to start up the computer. Next time I try, only a few lights blink again.
After I discoved the start-up problem I noticed that the power supply is fairly noisy. I also noticed that the machine has a small bubly mark in the plastic in the upper left corner above the screen. (Looks like a production error or transportation fault) You hardly notice the small 1 cm inconsistency in the plastic, but it doesn't look like a normal scratch.
As I thought the power supply might be causing the problems because of the strange sounds, I brought the maschine to a PC technician today. He tested the power supply, and said that it worked properly, but he also said that it shouldn't sound like that. He did not open the notebook, in order not to cause trouble regarding the Toshiba warranty.
I bought the computer in Denmark as I wanted a Danish keybord. However I live in Portugal, where I will be using the computer. This is where the PC is now.
Do you recommend that I contact an ASP in Portugal to repair the PC or do you suggest that I return the PC to the dealer in Denmark?
Will the ASP be able to exchange the screen and the power supply which obviously both are not in the state they should be?
    Thanks for any advice!

    Hello
First of all I must say I never had problems after 3 days of my new Toshiba notebook but such things happens and no manufacture is perfect.
Furthermore I must agree with you. I would bring the notebook to an ASP because it seems that mainboard is faulty but Im not sure. This is only my personal opinion and so the notebook should be checked by a notebook technician.
As far as I know the notebook is covered by 1 year international warranty and so I would contact the ASP in your country. Ask them if they can repair your notebook and if not you must contact the other ASP where you bought the notebook.
I think this is the best solution because they can tell you what to do exactly.
Good luck and Im sure that your notebook will be repaired as fast as possible.

  • New itunes 5 won't start after download

I downloaded iutnes 5 and now when I click on the desktop icon or the one in the start menu itunes won't start! I also downloaded Norton Internet Security recently so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. Can someone please offer a suggestion as to what I can do to start my itunes. I've wasted so many hours already trying to get it to work....Thanks

Yes, it could be you have "zombie" itunes in your tasks.
But I think it is more likely that some firewall/security software like "norton" is stopping net-enabled software from running. You could look at the task explorer to see if itunes is launching. I prefer the excellent, and free, process explorer from sysinternals.com. For one it is better at stopping zombie processes than task manager.
    http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.html
So if you don't see any "itunes" or "ipod" processes running then you need to see about enabling them in your "Norton Internet Security"

  • New rig won't start with 2 x 8gb ram kit

I just started my first rig up last night.  I have a MSI Z97 PC Mate and a Pentium G3258.  RAM is GSkill Tridentx DDR3 1600 2x8GB.  The system starts up fine with one 8GB stick in the #2 DIMM slot, but when I add the other 8GB stick to the #4 slot the system wont boot.  Both sticks work in the #2 slot.  It also didn't boot when I tried each stick in the #4 DIMM slot.  Hoping its not a bad slot.  Any ideas would be great.

Cool.  Thanks.  I just removed the motherboard and inspected it with a magnifying glass.  I couldn't see any scratches or bent pins or any apparent damage.  But that's also me looking , and I don't know exactly what to look for.  I put it all back together and am having the same problem.  I think I've exhausted all suggestions now.
can you get me a picture of the CPU socket pins for me to look at? (get it at a mild angle and in a bright light at an as big as you can resolution?

  • My new Macbook Pro won't start.

Hello. So today i got my new MacBook Pro 13''. I started to use it and competely emptied battery. Now i can't turn it on, it don't charge and my MagSafe charge don't blink. What do i do? It's my first Mac and first problem in first day, it makes me mad.

I'm having a similar problem and I'm ready to explode. I have a huge work deadline tomorrow and can't get the work done. My 4 month old macbook pro won't charge anymore. I'm now on an old pc desperately searching for help.
I switched to my first mac because everyone said how great they were. Since when does a nearly new laptop stop charging? apparently this is a common problem and my sales person did not inform me when I asked specifically about potential bugs. I am furious, frustrated and very unhappy with this. Apple, you suck tonight.
Here's the problem: The light on the magsafe adapter did not work this evening when I tried to charge it. I did nothing out of the ordinary. It was on the desk and I plugged it in as usual.  I spent an hour on the phone and online trying to get apple support to no avail. Apparently their 24/7 line is not 24/7 in Canada?
I cannot remove the battery as the site says, so I'm completely screwed at the mercy of this bullcrap brand. I did everything advised on the site, including checking the SMC and the cord itself. With only 20 minutes left and the battery ticking, I tried to email myself all the files I need, but they're huge and just when it was near finishing, the battery went from 10 to 21 minutes and it shut down.
Now it won't turn on, of course. The little button on the side has only one green light flashing. The adapter does nothing. NO red or green like before.
I am at my cottage and do not have an apple dealer nearby. Who can I scream at for this? All my previous computers could be easliy fixed when things go wrong. Remind me what is so great about this overpriced mean little machine!%^%!^*%&!(
WHY does a NEW laptop that costs a premium have such a fragile adapter / battery?  Is there another adapter I can use to charge it? I'm at my wit's end.

  • New hard drive won't start.

My I mac started to act weird. So I went to the Apple store and they said I have to replace the hard drive. Because it was so expensive at Apple I went to Bast Buy and bought a new 1.5TB hard drive and payed to Geek Squad to replace the hard drive.I picked uo the computer today and when I turned it on it has a file with a question mark blinking on the screen.I tried to turn on with the C button hold down a few times and nothing.I am so disappointed and don;t know what to do.Any one has any idea?

    Hey Janos,
How early was your first contact with Apple.
I taught it is pretty easy to install the OS but i guess I was wrong
It is. Just put a new 500GB hard drive in a 15" MacBook Pro 2.2 GHz, installed Snow Leopard and transferred all the client's applications, documents and settings from the old 160 GB hard drive tonight in a few hours.
the Apple guys told me that that was fixed by Apple with no charge to me.
When was this done? Wasn't there a guarantee? Should have been at least 6 months if not a year.
Of course taking it to the Geeks would confuse this situation.

  • New WLS domain won't start due to authentication error

Using the admin console (started under mydomain) I created a new domain/server.
I created start up scripts (with the correct domain/server). When it starts up
it asks me for the system password and then it fails! I moved the fileRealm.properties
from mydomain (because it complained). How can I just create a new server?! Why
is this so hard? I do not want to copy over the mydomain directory. I want to
create one from scratch, LIKE IS RECOMMENDED!

    Michael,
what is the weblogic version you are suing? Can you post the stack trace?
    Thanks,

  • Brand new mac mini won't start up

Hi guys, I've read a few threads but nobody seemed to have encountered the problem I have with this new mac straight out of the box.
It starts with the chime, white screen, wheel, apple pops up but then suddenly the screen turns blue, then grey n displays two images alternately. Both indicate i need to do something with the power button but the power cable is definitely plugged in. What's more bizarre is that neither image features the mini, one is of a MacBook and an arrow points at the power button, the other image of a full size mac hardrive with a power slide on top front. I've never owned a mac until now so really unsure what to expect but the fact that the power light is solid and I can hear the disk spinning must be a good sign?
I've tried turn off n unplug, wait for 30sec then restart, reboot the RAM but nothing works.
Would be very grateful for any help you could give.
    Thanks,
    Sheryl

since the Mac is brand new, i'd take it to the nearest Apple Store or AASP.
a new Mac shouldn't behave like this.

  • NEW: G4 MDD won't start... period!

I'm glad I came here before running a test again. I'm very, very frustrated as this is my lifeline. Without my Mac, I'm dead.
I received a new hard drive from a friend. Since I had two internal HD's installed already, I did a Time Machine "install" on the new drive via Firewire. The drive booted perfectly and ran smoothly as I went through my daily work routine. Come evening, I crack the case (as I've done hundreds of times over the years with various machines) to put the drive in. The drive is in and the machine boots several times in a row and shuts down. Pretty normal stuff.
Now here's where it gets sticky and I admit to stupidity. I have a slot fan next to my graphics card. It was originally there for an older card that would heat up quite a bit. My new card doesn't, so I decide to pull the slot fan... while the machine was powered up. Not thinking, I replaced the slot fan with a PCI FW card. My unit is on the floor, and when I get up to shut it down, I have the "Your machine needs to be restarted" box on the screen.
Now when I go to startup up, the machine starts but doesn't get past the P38 fan spinning, which is consistent. I tried it several times with the same response. After shutting down I unplugged the power cord, reset the PMU and pulled the battery. Still nothing. It's now been sitting for about 16 hours in this state and I thought I'd check the forum to see if there's a fix.
Sorry to be long-winded... as I said, this is my lifeline as I use very specific Mac-only apps in my business and without them I'm working at Hardee's.

P.S. I tried revising but the post would hold the edit (running from wife's PC... which I absolutely HATE!!). Here's my addendum: What happens if you remove/install a PCI card while the machine is on? Is a machine recoverable from that type of trauma?
Many thanks for any lightning fast replies!

  • New MBP - GB won't start - PACE

Hi there. I have a relatively new MBP (Dore Duo II). I am trying to use Garage Band, but when I try to start it up I get a message that "Required software extensions are missing." And that I should press ok to go to the PACE website. When I click ok, nothing happens....
GB loads, and gives me the option of starting a new project, etc, but then gives me midi errors consistently so that I just have to force quit.
I do use Pro Tools LE....is there a compatibility problem?

Ok....solved it. I tried to load my protools, and found that it wouldn't load either. I went to the iLok website (PACE) and downloaded the new ilok software.
Then, I updated my ProTools and Core Audio Driver to 7.3.1 and everything works fine now....
Although I love protools, I really hate it more. They have tried so hard to keep it safe and proprietary...that it wreaks havoc on everything else. Guess it's time to move to logic.
    Thanks for your help.

  • ColdFusion 11 new installation; service won't start on 2008 R2

I've just installed ColdFusion 11 on a clean Windows Server 2008 R2 machine and the ColdFusion application service looks like it starts, but then a minute later, shows that it is not running (in the services panel). When I try to restart it, it simply will not start. It comes back with the typical error "This application took too long to respond..." so now it just hangs in a "starting" state. I've rebooted the server several times, there is nothing else running on the server. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    OK, to confirm:
My ColdFusion Administrator already has an internal webserver, so port 8500 is already enabled.
I placed a silly hello world cfm file at the wwwroot level, and yes, it has some cf code in it.
entered http://localhost:8500/index.cfm and it processed the cfm page just fine.
I already had a test website with this test index.cfm hello world file in it.
It is connected with the wsconfig for coldfusion 11 to IIS 7.5.  cf handlers are there.  cfide and jakarta links are created.
    I run the page http://127.0.0.1/index.cfm
    get the following error message:
HTTP Error 404.7 – Not Found.  The request filtering module is configured to deny the file extension.
    Module                RequestFilteringModule                               Requested URL                 http://localhost:80/jakarta/isapi_redirect.dll
    Notification        BeginRequest                                                    Physical Path                      D:\ColdFusion11\config\wsconfig\2\isapi_redirect.dll
Handler                ISAPI-dll                                                               LogonMethod                   Not yet determined
Error Code          0x00000000                                                         Logon User                         Not yet determined
    Most likely causes:
Request filtering is configured for the Web server and the file extension for this request is explicitly denied.
    Things you can try:
Verify the configuration/sustem.webServer/security/requestFiltering/fileExtensions settings in applicationhist.config and web.config.
If I go to applicationhost.config or web.config everything is set to allow for the coldfusion extensions.  Going to IIS UI,  Request Filtering, the coldfusion extensions are all set to true. If I change the Request Filtering Feature Settings and allow unlisted file name extensions then it will work, but that is not an option for our hyper secure website.
    Thanks for your continuted help!

  • My brand new Mac Mini won't start up

the light comes on, but thats it. No sound, no program. It did work for about an hour. What happened? I tried everything...Take it back.
    Opinions please.
    SP

Having the same issue with my brand new Intel Mac Mini. Happened earlier this week for the first time it went into sleep mode and wouldn't wake up (the light came on, but no chime, no video) - even after shutting it down and trying to boot it up again.
I called tech support and they had me reboot the bios by unplugging it, pressing and holding the power button and plugging the power back in then releasing the button. After that I pressed the button and it came on - when I turned it on again the fan came on full tilt. I called tech support again they had me unplug it for 3 minutes then it came back on again and seemed fine.
Today it happened again - I was able to get it rebooted it but called tech support anyway. I am very concerned that a brand new machine is acting this way. While working with tech support it again became unresponsive. After trying a few things I was connected with another product specialist that agreed that their was a problem and has arranged to get me a new machine.
I am very disappointed as this is my first Mac experience, but hoping it is an isolated issue. Tech support seemed very responsive and I am happy with Apple's response thus far - although it would be nice if they would send the new Mac overnight!
Anyway since others are having a similiar issue I was curious if there are any common threads to our experiences? If you have a chance list your specs - might see something interesting.
    Ok here are mine:
    - Mac Mini Intel Solo Core
    - Upgraded the RAM to 1 Gig (Ordered it this way)
    - Upgraded to the SuperDrive (DVD Burner)
    - Using a KVM (Also have a PC on the same KVM)
    - Acomdata 160 GB Mini Pal Hard Drive / Ports
    - iPod dock connected
    - USB Camera cable connected
    - Keyboard and mouse are USB wireless PC based
Anyway post your specs if you are having an issue - maybe we will see a trend.

  • MacBook Pro 17, new ... won't start up.

    Hello all,
OK....Got my MacBook Pro in the mail last week and did a clean install after partitioning my disks. Then installed CS2, Office 2004. This morning, upon hitting the power key, I heard the chime, the screen went to the usual grey, then the grey apple logo and then restarted... back to chime.
I tried zapping PRAM, which didn't change anything.
Then I decided to to an Archive and Install, which refused to happen probably because I'd updated my OS software since the clean install.
It's early enough to where I could walk into an Apple Store and ask for a swap but I already spent time and energy on this and was looking forward to getting down to some work....
Any ideas as to what's going on... or what one might do to fix it ?

Me personally I like to have all my stuff that has never had problems because I believe it leads to more problems (just me) I would return it.

Is it already broken? I just took it out of the box and connected it and nothing's happening.

    Hi-
Did you try "Detect Displays" (in your System Preference/Displays) after you connected? Did you connect while the Macbook Pro was powered on, "hot swapping"?
