New - PC to MAC

Hello... As several people, I recently migrated from a PC to a Mac... I did Migration Assistan after inital setupt, it passed over documents and iTunes. It also created a new account, as many have noted. However, I cannot access this new account. I click on the user and get prompted for a password and nothing works. Have gone into User Groups and Reset several times, no luck. Tried "?" thinking it would bring me to a reset.. no luck. There is nowhere I can find to reset this password so I can access the files I just moved, to make them shareable or copy for the main user... Any help??? This is very frustrating...it took forever to move data over, and now I can't access...

The easy answer is always, "YES!" but I can spend your money all day - LOL!
The rational side of me says, "Maybe" and that really depends on you. Ask yourself a few questions.
First, does this computer do everything that you want it to do now, and what you can see yourself doing in the near future? It is a rather low-end setup, but if it does what you need and you do not see your needs changing, then keep it.
If you want to get more into digital media like movies and photos, the iLife suite that comes with all Macs is an unbelievable package. It has everything that a home user and even a hobby-level user would need to make CDs, DVDs from home movies, as well as edit, store, and organize your photos. It truly is a wonderful package.
Using just what came with the iMac and one shareware program I was able to import and PAL DVD from Europe into my iMac and convert it to the North American NTSC standard, create a new DVD with motion menus and everything, then burn it to DVD. Try that with the bundled software that you get with a PC. Not gonna happen.
If you want to get your feet wet and see what the Mac world is all about, why not pick up a mini and use a KVM swtich to still be able to use your PC? The mini is a very powerful computer in its own right and comes with iLife as well.
You will get to see a world with no viruses, little malware and an incredibly helpful community that will guide you through any hiccups that will pop up with the switch.
We do not bite (hard) and would love to welcome another user to the fold.

when i open sites in safari the page opens fine if it is not a pdf based page.
Once i open a site that has a link to another page that is a pdf based page the page comes up as a black screen with no info showing
If I open a site that gices me an open to save a file to a word, excel type document or a pdf , everything works fine until I try to save the information to a PDF and again the screen goes black
I have tried the safari help site but to no avail, does anyone have a solution to thid problem. (I do have the abode ofr mac program loaded)

If you delete all the Adobe Reader stuff it will probably fix this. For almost everything, the Apple pdf handling works better.

I had to redo the whole project from scratch on Windows Movie Maker.
Now I know which brand to trust on my next purchase.

I just created a new profile/user on my MacBook Pro. My pointer/mouse. It works fine in my older user profile, but when I go to the new profile my mac will not respond to clicks. Mouse moves but will not click. Already tried restarting and the pram zap.

I get to the login screen and my laptop stops responding to clicks. When I manage to make my way back to my main profile the mouse works perfectly. Should I just delete the new profile and try again?

If the modem is also a router, either use the modem in bridge and run pppoe client on the TC.. that is assuming ADSL or similar eg vdsl. If it is cable service.. and the modem is a router, then bridge the TC.. go to internet page and select connect by ethernet and below that set connection sharing to bridge.
Please tell us more about the modem if the above gives you issues.

Problems with the new Pages for Mac

I'm starting to see countless problems running the new Pages for Mac (5.0.1) and I can't find a way to resolve them.
1. when I'm typing and want to delete word(s), I'll use the alt+delete function for ease, however this starts deleting words after the cursor, merging words together and changing my sentece. It comes from when I'm deleting as the new pages is giving me the dropdown menu for the autocorrect word.
2. grammar check is off. Namely, it picks a random point in a word and moves on from there. EX: "because of the" will have "use of the" underlined in green and give me recommendations to change to "because of the" or "cause of the". Using those recommendations, I'll end up with something like: "becabecause of the"
3. the find and replace function jumps around in the paper, and sometimes doesn't even display the word currently selected (leaving the user to scroll around looking for what is selected)
4. Autocorrect has vanished for some reason: no autocapitalization, no turning fractions such as 1/2 into a tidy and neat fraction with small numbers for numerators/denominators, etc.
I'm still using it, and these are what I have found, so there may be more later as I continue to use it. If anyone has found ways around these bugs, please let me know.

Pages 5 now uses the system autocorrect, which does not have as many features as the one inside Pages 4. Some things you can add manually there. Others you have to ask Apple to add via

I'm new to the Mac world. I installed my Epson printer on my IMAC and it worked fine. Then I installed Windows7 through Bootcamp and I think it reconfigured a port and now I get a communication error and it won't print. Any help on how do to fix this?

How can I reset new password in .mac system preferences?

...so that I can upgrade to MobileMe. When I type in my new password and hit Enter, or click over to Sync, it insists on remembering the old password, and then I can't sync. The odd thing is, when I enter the new password into .Mac preferences I get "thanks for being a member" and the days remaining on my account. The new password also works to log me in online, but I can't change system preferences to perform the upgrade to MobileMe. The old .Mac link to iCal works--the info is up to date--but the MobileMe calendar, contacts, bookmarks, etc have no data.. Any ideas?
(I'm an only user using the admin. account (have one other account with unchanged original settings).

Reset Password starting from Recovery HD
Start the computer,then press and hold down command and R keys to start into recovery partition.
When you see the Apple logo, release the keys.
Wait until OS X Utilities window shows up.
Move the mouse to the menubar at the top and click "Utilities", then select "Terminal"
from the drop down.
Terminal window will appear.
Type in resetpassword and press enter on the keyboard.
Leave the Terminal window open.
Reset Password Utility window will open with Macintosh HD selected.
Select the user account from the popup menu box.
Enter a new password.
Reenter the new password for the user.
Enter a hint.
Click the "Save" button.
Click  in the menubar and select Restart.
Log in.
If Keychain dialog box appears, select “Create New Keychain”.

Try a hard reset. ( holding Power til it restarts)
Once to your desktop. Click the Apple icon >> About this mac >> More info>> Storage
Once you see what you have the most of. Try to see what you can delete.
Open up any folder>>all files>> or buy an external to store more data.
Once deleting make sure you empty your trash.
If you are new and its a new computer, you might need to bring it to a store for further assistence.

Yes, I did that. They have uppgrades for the dongles, but just untill Mac Os 10.7. Their solution is to buy a new modem from them or getting one for free if I sign a contract for 24 months! So, i think from that side not very helpful.
It is just that I do not want to buy a new modem, when it works in quite recent computers and after having spent money in the new Mac.

How do I go about setting up my new wireless all-in-one Epson XP-215 printer to my MacBook Pro? The system is not automatically detecting the printer ad the furthest I get is "System" keychain user and pswd but I am a new user to Mac.

I am a new user to Mac and trying to set up an Epson XP-215 All-in-One printer without any success. The Mac Book Pro is not recogising the Printer automatically and when following the instructions to add the printer, it gets as far as a display box for teh user and password for "System" Keychain but I am not sure what info to add there...
The printer is meant to have a function calle dAir Print also that is meant to be used for Mac but I cannot figure out any of this! Why would the MacBook Pro not automatically pic up the printer? Please help...

i noticed they said that facetime will basically be taking over video calls on the mac and that Messager will take over ichat, but i'm worried they're going to drop all the nice features they had on ichat, like being able to share screens while video chatting with someone. or being able to chat with 2 people at once on a video call.
has anyone downloaded the beta of this yet and tried it out? i'm very curious

You can start a Video chat with one Buddy and then chose Screen Share and providing you and the Buddy are using UPnP to open ports it will instantly convert to a Screen Share.
A Screen Share is only 1-1 and is technically an Audio Chat +
The Plus bit is an VNC connection alongside the Audio Chat.
This VNC connection uses a random port - hence the need to use UPnP to open the ports in the router (Or Port Mapping Protocol) in Apple Base Station.
There used to be Add-ons that allowed the Desktop as Video Feed which would have been a sort of Screen Share but none of these have been updated for Lion.
An Example is iUSBCam (ShowMacster was another - My link no longer works)
CamCamX maybe a possibility if it works in Lion (It does say it neess iUSBCam for iChat)

I have a macbook pro 10.5.8 and reformatted it, and now i can't install all the updates, it says i need to have a newer version of mac in order to update...

I reccently reformatted my macbook pro, and i have a 10.5.8. It wont let me update any further and isnt showing me any new updates, and online the new updates i try to download it wont let me install saying I need a newer version of mac in order to do so. How do i fix this problem, and how do I get the mac app store?
