New PC, will my IPod retain existing files?????

I have heard that if I hook my Ipod to a new PC, I will loos existing files...Is this true???

Is it possible to remove auto synchro after itunes is
installed????
The synchronization option is in the iPod section in preferences and your iPod has to be connected for it to appear. However, you can stop synchronization by holding down SHIFT+CTRL while you plug in your iPod.

  • Retaining existing file structure when importing into Iphoto 8

    Hello,
I'm new to the list and to iphoto. I'm an historian, and I have about 10,000 images of documents on my mac, all divided into dozens of folders, sub-folders, and sub-sub folders, depending on where the documents originated in the collections I was researching. I'd like to be able to work with these images in Iphoto 8. When I tried to import a folder that contained photos in sub-folders, Iphoto simply imported the photos without the files, making them pretty much useless for me. Can anyone on the list tell me how to work with these images with Iphoto without losing the existing file structure, and without me needing to recreate that file structure within Iphoto? Barring that, I'd be obliged for suggestions of other programs that can do this. Thank you!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If you must maintain your folder structure then you might want to look at another application for that.Media Expression will do exactly what you want. You setup your folder system and it works with it. You can keyword, set up categories (albums in iPhotoese) and lots more. It's one of the better DAM (digital asset management) applications.
Otherwise you can simulate your folder structure in iPhoto with iPhoto's virtual folders and albums like shown in this screenshot:

  • Does re-downloading and installing Mavericks retain existing files, apps etc.

I have a fully functioning Macbook Pro but email has become unstable.  I want to reinstall email but I believe I need to reinstall the complete OS.  If I re-download Mavericks and install it, will my existing files, apps etc. be retained ?
    thanks

Yes, your existing files will be retained ... assuming all goes well!
Of course, you should have a complete, thorough backup before attempting a re-install.  Hopefully you will not need to use it.

  • Will Time Machine delete existing files on hard drive

A coworker is running OS X 10.6.8 on a MacBook Pro, and the computer is running very slow. I told her she should back up all her files with Time Machine, wipe her drive, upgrade to 10.10 and reimport all her files once that's done and see how things run then.
The problem is her existing hard drive has a lot of files on it already, that she doesn't want to risk losing.
So if I back up her hard drive with Time Machine to this hard drive, will it automatically erase all the existing files on the hard drive? Or can the Time Machine back up coexist with those existing files?

If the drive's already formatted as Mac OS Extended or Xsan, the files will remain as is. If not, they'll be erased.
In any case, all of the files you want to keep should be on at least two drives so that they won't be lost in the event that one of them fails.

  • If I transfer my iTunes library to a new Mac, will my iPod's data be saved?

I'm purchasing a new Mac, but I use an iPod Touch with a different Mac. If I copy my current iTunes library to the new computer, what will happen when I plug my iPod in? I'm hoping that if I make a copy of the library, I won't have to completely rysnch my iPod. I know I'll at least have all the playlists/videos/apps/etc on the computer by making the copy, and so I can just readd them, but I'm mostly concerned with my contacts, notes, and the progress I've made in some of the game apps. I don't sync contacts or notes to my current computer, though I will if I have to so I can preserve them, but as far as I know there's no way for me to save all the data in my apps if I have to resync it. Will my data be safe if I simply copy the library? If not, is there anything I can do to avoid losing it without having to constantly sync my iPod with the old computer?

if you copy the iTunes folder from the old to the new Mac, your Touch will just continue to sync with iTunes as if nothing happened.
make sure you copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music or media folder).

  • New Symbian OS compatibility with s60v3 existing p...

    Hello everyone!
Coupple of minutes ago I red about new Symbian Foundation OS.
It was mentioned that new OS will be compatible with existing Symbian phones.
Does someone knows it will be possible to use our nowadays phones, for instance E90, E75, N96 with new OS? Can we upgrade it with the new OS?
    Thanks in advance!
    Best regards.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It is highly unlikely that S60v3FP1 and FP2 phones will get the new OS.
Various rumours suggest that newer S60v5 phones may get the new OS, but no exact details are known.
It more likely that the only models that will get the new OS are those that have yet to be announced.
All you can do is wait until more details are released to the public from nokia and symbian and hope that the news is good.

  • MY NEW IPOD 60G WILL NOT RECOGNIZE MY EXISTING MUSIC FILES

I'M TRYING TO SET UP MY NEW IPOD AND IT WILL NOT RECOGNIZE MY EXISTING WMP LIBRARY OR A PORTABLE SONY VAIO LIBRARY. HOW CAN I CHANGE PROPERTIES OR EXT SO IT WILL. THANKS GB

You will have to get the tracks into iTunes before you can load them on your iPod. iTunes will import the following formats: AAC, MP3, AIFF, WAV, and unprotected WMA. If your tracks are in one of these formats, iTunes should be able to bring them in (try the Add To Library command first).
If the tracks are in protected WMA (either purchased from another download music store or imported from CD with the Windows Media Player default to copy-protect turned on) or are in Sony's proprietary format, then you will not be able to import them directly into iTunes. In those cases, the only way to get the tracks into iTunes will be to, if your download service allows, burn the tracks to an audio CD and then reimport that into iTunes.
    Hope this helps.
Forum Tip: It is generally considered inappropriate behavior to type all in uppercase letters in Internet discussions, as text that is typed all in uppercase is by convention considered to be shouting. Uppercase is also more difficult to read, so please use all uppercase sparingly and only when you really mean to shout, which we hope you won’t need to do here .

Some of the information below has subsequently appeared in a document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

  • HT5616 Will new apple id impact on existing files?

My email address is expired because i am retired from my company. So i want to change my Apple id. Is there Any affect on my existing files in keynote, pdf, ibook, etc? And how to change apple id?

I will make this clear - DO NOT CREATE A NEW APPLE ID!
CHANGE the email associated with your current Apple ID or you will create headaches you will hope never to recover from. :-)
Before following the instruction JimHdk provided, be sure to also create security questions if you haven;t already done so, and add a recovery email address. This is insurance in case something goes wrong. I really suggest you do not skip these two steps.
    Good luck.

  • Itunes will no longer sync new music to my ipod

I've had my ipod for a year and have been able to use it fine. Now, however, the ability to sync new music to my ipod has been removed. I've recently bought a new computer and successfully transferred everything over and been able to sync my ipod with the new computer and it has been working fine. THen I decided to buy some new music from the itunes store. At first I bought a few songs and placed them in a pre-existing playlist and that worked fine. Then I decided to download the next part of an audio book I bought a while ago off audible so I could listen to the next part and while I could download it it wouldn't add to itunes the way I've done it for the last 80 or so audiobooks I've downloaded from audible (go to file, select add file to library, find file, double click and then sync)
There was no error message, just when I synced it wasn't there. So I bought an album from the itunes store. Again, something I've done before. I can buy the album, I can download it, I can even make a playlist for the album and listen to it on my computer. When I sync I get no error message but nothing I try can get that album from my computer onto my ipod.
The only way I can listen to anything new (including the stuff I have already paid for) is to do so on my computer, which I don't want to do as I can't carry my computer around public transport with me. Besides, this is why I bought an ipod!
I'm not trying to do aything new, just what I've done before.
    Thank you in advance!

  • Replaced old ipod want existing music on new ipod

Can anyone please tell me how I get my existing library onto my new I-Pod? Thanks

Is the music in iTunes? If it is just connect the new iPod to your computer and follow the on screen instructions to register and name it. It will update from your existing library. Depending on the size of your library and the type of iPod you choose you can have it update all songs and playlists, selected playlists only or you can manage it manually.
If you only have the songs on the old iPod you need to return them to your computer. Connect your iPod to your computer. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

    iPod2PC Windows Only

    iDump Windows Only
    iRepo Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod

I installed the 64 bit version of Photoshop CS 5.1 Extended successfully.  It opens fully without issue.  However, any time I create a new file or open an existing file, it crashes.
